P.S.....in my review I mistakenly said the radio had 999 channels which were able to be divided into 10 "Zones/Banks" of 100 channels but that was incorrect as the radio actually has 640 channels which are consequently able to be divided into 10 "Zones/Banks" of 64 channels. Apologies for that and I also failed to mention that the radio has airband RX though the CPS software doesn't currently allow the programming of airband frequencies by that means, only via the keypad. Apologies for those errors and omissions.
I actually like this feature... I'm using zones for the different regions I got to an different services and frequencies I want to scan. It makes scanning faster and keeps my current set of frequencies more focused. I changed one of the side buttons on the radio to switch zones, and I'm enjoying it. Just wish I could program with CHIRP and find a way to disable TX on certain frequencies!
@lazdnet if programming in chirp if you select "off" in the "Duplex" column of the frequency you wish to disable tx on the the radio will not tx on that frequency but programming in chirp is currently not available for this radio. Thank you for your comment.
I notice that, when on air band frequencies, it doesn't display "AM" on the display. I'm also not hearing anything, so I'm wondering if air band is working...
@@lazdnet it does receive airband which is anything between 108 and 136mhz but you will have to be tuned to the frequency of your local airport and not be too far away from it in order to pick anything up. It does not display AM on the screen when tuned to airband frequencies unfortunately.
@@bigwill4423 Thanks, I was able to receive some airband communications as well, so confirming it works! You can be tracked as soon as you transmit on ANY radio. Ham radio operators do this all the time, both for sport (fox hunt) and to track down illegal operators.
That's not how GPS and APRS work. GPS passively picks up satellite signals and calculates your location based on that. APRS only sends out what you tell it to, when you tell it to.
