The LEGENDARY "Big Red" Camaro goes 216MPH!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- This is the biggest wing we have ever seen on a car.. and it has a purpose! Lots of downforce for lots of traction! Not only is this Camaro unique looking, its about just as strange under the hood. Somehow all this craziness works together to propel this old 1960's car over 200MPH!

Mechanic: So you want to attach a race car to you wing?
Owner: Yes!
Big Red is a freaking legend! So many different types of racing has transpired from that car. It's also the godfather of the pro-touring movement. Glad to see it back running after the major fire a couple of years ago.
He’s da whip… that Dodge didn’t even belong on that track, LOL…
The first Camaro that absolutely dropped my jaw back in ‘89 or so.
What type of racing has transpired ?
So THIS is the car I read about in Polish magazines when I was a child in the early 2000s! Damn.
Bro you took the words right out of my mouth! This car has been competing since the late 80s! And has evolved numerous times over the decades. It has had a movie/documentary made about the car and driver. Big Red has had a cameo appearance in the Fast and Furious movies! This car is Legendary!
The first Protouring Musclecar. Im amazed you guyz dont do more vids on this beast. Bigred is the first super Musclecar to do 200 mph on a closed course on a public road. Back in the day it was a supercar asskicker. In 1989 this beast did 200 + mph in race held in Nevada called the silver state classic. I'll never forget this one of a kind car. Thank you RJ and crew for showing the old school is still giving up a fight for records.
Big Red and the Crusher Camaro really hooked me on cars back when I was a kid. Glad to see both are still going strong all these years later.
Don't forget project x :)
I remember seeing these guys in the magazines when I was a kid, they kicked ass at the silver state classic.
I lived in Ely, Nevada for 18 years. got to meet this guy, and see Big Red many times.
Too bad Smokey negata and big red never met back then... big red would have been knocked down from that pedestal.
I miss the bad ass black 68 charger from back then too, never seen the car since
I saw them race there in 94-95 along with a few monster Miata’s what a car
Wasn't Big Red the 1st 69 camaro to hit 200mph back in the day or is my memory not serving me ? lol
That thing is the freaking swiss army knife of racecars. It just does it all.
I wanna see it setup for a hill climb
Edit: oh my god it's been at Pikes Peak
@@skrimper 😂😂😂
Big Red is an Icon. I remember seeing this thing in hot rod magazine when I was 8 then 12 and so on and so on. Legendary car
I actually still have that with the fold out and all
@@shannondidntdoit so cool 😎
@@shannondidntdoit do you have the megabucks issue? That had some crazy stuff too, I think it was the same year or one after it
This car managed 266mph once, I'm not sure what the event was. I saw it race in the late 80's at the Silver Star Classic. It's been around that long. It's still all steel except for the hood.
Silver State Classic..
Glad to see the car back together and setting records
"Thanks for being being a fan"
How could ya not be? This thing is wicked cool. And it's (undoubtedly) not even it's final form.
The Crow: "look at this ridiculous wing"
Big Red: "hold my beer"
Glad to see they rebuilt Big Red again. Last I saw it was totaled. But that was some time back. I believe Amazon Prime Video had the documentary series on the history and ongoing efforts of Big Red and the team to compete in every type of motorsport out there.
"thanks for being a fan" much more original than the usual " appreciate it"
God I remember watching the livestreams and watching big red run. But every time he pulled up chat all went "Stupid wing car!!!" And it was hilarious. The wing does look stupid, but function>looks so often. The wing is insane.
The legend is back! Literally the most legendary car ever because of how many different styles and classes of racing she does and is competitive at every one!🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘
What else do they run?
@@glentight My first recollection of Big Red is running the public highway events like the Silver State Classic. The car was doing 200 then, but with much longer straight run distances available.
No, KITT is.
@@glentight he ran the Silver State Challenge back in the 80s and set a 198mph average and later set top speed at 266mph, he had ran Piles Peak, 1/2 mile and some other stuff ive missed over the years all with a carburetor and none of the fancy electronic tuning aids used today….imagine if he did though!! Been a bad ass car since the 80 and known all over the world
Yup. I have been watching this car since the early 80's. It's not the same car, of course (the original burned to the ground), but they have stayed true to the 69 platform they started with.
That car is a legend i remember first time that i saw in Hot Rod magazine
Going over 200 mph, 1900 hp, Procharger - and all this with a carb. Mind = blown! 😲
Big Red Is A Racing Legend!!! He has a Great back story!
I remember those giant wings on the rice burners back in the day. People would yell, "hey, the airport is back there..."
Still happens: There's a kid in my neighborhood that has that same wing on his 1982 4 cylinder bmw. A guy might want to hate on it, but the kid looks so dang pleased with himself...

@@High_Caliber Its there if he needs it.👍👍
@@dancearoundtheworld5360 I can't argue with that logic! :)
Big Red has been around since 1987 competing in the La Carrera. Beast of a machine. Multiple engine configurations depending on the event.
I've been following this car for a long ass time. Great to see them still out there putting down big runs/races 💪
Love the big red camaro . This car has a lot more speed in it. Good luck guys!
Big red has been my favorite forever, I remember watching big red back in the late 80s. It sounds so sick too.!🤟🏻
What a glorious noise!
One of the best all around cars ever built. It's a monster on the road courses.
From drag week to high speed runs, hot dang i love this channel.

BRO, YOU BE ROLLIN'OUT MAN!!PPL NEED TO REALIZE THAT 200MPH IS EFFIN MOVING THE HELL OUTTA THERE!! GREAT WORK AND MAD RESPECT TO THE CREW THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN!!🏁🏆🍻💯💪🏾👊🏾👀
That wing is hideous, but only a legendary beast like Big Red can pull it off.
All function
Ive known about Big Red since the Silver State Classic days.....ran the fastest pass and held the record for a long time. That's the Gottlieb car. Used to run an NA 540ci BBC with a Jerico for the road course races.
The park bench is different! The Volvo wagon going 200+ at Drag Week out wowed this.
Oh my goodness! BigRed is still around?!!! Had a magazine picture of this car on my wall when I was a kid.
I remember being a kid reading about this Camaro in Hot Rod magazine. This car had a huge part in me becoming a gear head. Even though I hate that ugly ass wing I will always love this car!
I love Big Red, there’s a tv show for the car and it’s super cool to see how they change the car to meet the demands of what ever they enter it in.
What is the setup for a funeral precession.
@@mikewest712 bigger wing to hold the casket
Big red never disappoints.
People surprised it has a carburetor, I expected it to have a big ole giant Holley. I'm old school no doubt, big cubic inches and big cam along with said carb. Badass, would be cool to really look that beast over, thanks for posting. 👍👍🏁🏁
Wow, big red is still around. I remember them from the silver state classic videos
This dude makes me passionate about racing. Let’s go BIG RED!
LEGEND...Proud to see a ProCharger under the hood!
Nice! I love the way they painted to look like an old trans am series race car.
Love seeing this car back on the channel!!
The car that started Pro Touring, Big Red!
Awesome ride. I turbo'ed my '69 Camaro back in the day, 14lbs boost, no waste gate (hey, I was in high school ... I was learning), estimated 500hp ... I LOVE Big Red !! Thanks for filming it.
Question to the Big Red guys - any thoughts on going to Bonneville?
Shit I have been watching "Big Red" since the late 80's long before UA-cam
even existed!😁
these guys are some magicians for pulling that off with a carb car, god damn
Actually carbs are easier to get power with.
I love how the drive by it sounds like it's running at about 4000 rpm and he's just cruising by, and it's showing 215mph
I remember reading about Big Red 35ish years ago in some car magazine when it was won the Silver State Classic
Glad to see Big Red back
That sound is epic
I tell you what, people laugh and take the piss but there's a hell of a lot to be said for those big fixed wings we're starting to see more and more of lately. They make a big difference to stability and staying in a straight line. Anyone who knows anything about aerodynamics will tell you. It's just a matter of time before more and more racers catch on to just how much of a difference it actually makes.
You need a DB meter for some these cars that would be crazy to see how loud some of them get up to
i really love what you did to that Camaro it looks crazy cool
Big Red is an amazing car.
Most badass car and nicest people everrr. They came up here to Loring Air force Base, Northern Maine. They were soooo nice to my son and even gave us shirts and stuff and signed them. They actually wanted to talk with us, not just sign and walk off.
One of the best fun per miles video in a long time. Big red
Such a legendary car....
I remember reading about this car in a magazine back in like the early 90's
Damn, haven't heard something that loud since I ate my ex-wifes last ice cream cone.
Bless her soul.
I'm not a physicist, but is it even possible to have 1500lbs of downforce on a wing taped to the rear window? ;)
Its tied into the roll cage.
Heres an example
@@toddwimberly3023 (I know, that's why the winky face) ;)
Cant hook at 1/2 mi and 216 by 1. Cant even fathom that...amazing.
Thats a whole nother level of acceleration.
That's Big Red! I saw it race in the 80's
Does give the car character, though nothing else.
It looks like something we drew as kids lol but super awesome!
That's 347 kph for us Canucks. That's ludicrous speed. I can see why he's in such a good mood, that's got to be one heck of a rush.
I'm a Canuck, and it's 216mph to me.
Dang that thing is wild. Love old carbureted cars.
OMG!!! That thing sounds absolutely insane and incredible
Interviewing next to this car, I wouldnt hear a word.. just staring at the Camaro, jaw open.
Those crazy Chrysler engineers who did the Daytona/Superbird would be proud.
Averaged 198mph back in the day, top speed record of 266mph and all without fancy EFI and other modern controls….imagine if they used modern electronics. Been a bad ass machine since the 80s
Loved your coverage.
Aint watch the vid yet, just saw big red and hit the like button same time
Such a nice Bloke !
What is the car weighing when running in this format and engine, trans, rear, etc? Long live the LEGEND! Thanks for allowing us to view what you do. What size intake is being used in this format,: baseball, softball or the third variation?
Long live Big Red!
Some body stole the cats off my neighbors Prius now it sounds like big red
Big Red =Legend!!
Mechanic: Can we even put a wing on this?
Owner: Yes.
Mechanic: But I mean where though?
Owner: Yes.
Mechanic: That makes no sense. How big do you want it?
Owner: All of it.
Mechanic: What?
Owner: Yup!
Too many colons to be funny.
Have you heard, there is this car racing event going on called: 1320video rocky mountain race week 2.0...
Maybe you can cover that someday?
Always loved Big Red!
His runs on the silver state classic were awesome to watch
I figured u guy would be covering race week 2.0
Got that Midwest Streetcars spoiler option I see
Cannonball King 👑
Big Red if you don't know about this legendary car you need to go find out its a real treat
Carburetor!!!
Me : nani???
They should try and develop a t1 race style wing that folds down at the top end.
Ok, I love Big Red. Arguably the best all around car ever built. That wing tho...it's gotta go. There has to be a better way. Lowered? Full Splitters? Something please!!! Or....and I Hate to say this....enjoy your accomplishment and realize the Camaro's mortality. Glad to see Big Red out again!!! Great Job guys!!
Damn that thing sounds sooooo good. Chop chop
SSC!! DAMN those were the days!
Awesome car. How fast was the winner at that event?
That has to be the most interesting Camaro or car I've seen in quite awhile 214 mph off the trailer damn
Burn Baby Burn!!!!
Something about the "Thanks for being a fan" seemed.... douchy.
Such a cool dude!
Alright guys usually your editing is great and the background music is at a good level but this video sounds like someone bumped the volume slider for the background music
This is what an A-10 Warthog is as a car; a car built around a wing.
big red is a legend from the early 90s late 80s..think i first seen it on the cover of hot rod in the early 90s
Love Big Red.
Waiting to see ground effect downforce being used with F1 DRS style rear wing, huge downforce potential for these high speed runs with a lot less drag. Do it.
I am so hyped to see their next pikes peak run with this new aero
Amazing car, seen it before, performs so well.a programmable 4wd system would do the trick here, you would have the traction and the launch and disconnedt the tyre traction on a certain speed, i know it is something you can do with a haldex powered 4wd car(vag group), maybe something to look into for the team, just giving suggestions here.👍✌️
Oh wow
