- Neither of us were the heroes that we thought we were.
I felt very inspired by a recent Wilbur stream to write this song. Ever since Wilbur's return to the Dream SMP, his character has had to face the consequences of his actions. He's been trying to make it up to everyone, going around and apologizing to all of the friends he's wronged. One person he didn't even have on his list of apologies was Eret. Little did he know just how much he had wronged his old friend. Wilbur always liked to think of himself as better than "Eret The Traitor," yet they were far more alike than he realized. Neither of them were the heroes they thought they were.

One of my favorites.
Remembering our role model.
I don't have the words, this song is just amazing. The lyrics about how history sees them both as the vilains really hit me. It's like...you don't get to choose how people remember you, no matter what you accomplished, or what you thought was the right thing to do. It's humbling in a way, 'cause it's up to the living to decide wether or not the good you did outweights the bad. Really puts life into perspective, how something we thought was important gets ultimately lost in history. I think it really pays honour to the theme of Legacy, and to the characters of Wilbur and Eret themselves. They are flawed individuals who lived stubbornly, thinking they did something right, but history put them in their place, and now all they can do is try and learn from it.

As always an absolutely fantastic song. i love how it turned in this echoing thing, it feels almost haunting, but not really? more like a persistent echo.
my favourite lines are definitly "let's throw away all the pain that remains in this overgrown wreckage we once called our legacy". L'manberg is literlly overgrown and a wreckage. and their relationship is a wreckage. but it also feels so REAL, like, irl in the world. tragic history, overgrown, hate kept over generations, things carelessly discarded. it really hits me in the feels
plus, the part abiut not being able to change history, bit trying anyway. how futile it is to wish things were different,.but trying to make amends.

I know this song is based on Dream SMP but some of the lines kinda reminds me of Hamilton's and Burr's relationship (in the musical, not irl)
I don't know how but I can see Burr singing this song some time after Hamilton's death and everything that happened after that (do research it, his life went downhill real quick) expressing his regrets of killing his friend.
Burr tried so hard to differentiate himself from Hamilton at the start, saying that Hamilton is an impulsive, arrogant, loud-mouth bother who jumps at every opportunity offered and he claims himself to be the polar opposite, calm and calculating, always waiting for the right moment. Yet in the end, they're both are one and the same, they both wanted to achieve great things, wanted to be remembered, wanted a legacy, wanted to make a safe world for their family to live in.
And in the end, both were painted in history as villains, Burr being remembered as Hamilton's murderer, and Hamilton as the man on the 10 dollar bill who cheated on his wife (not sure if this count, but to be fair, don't think anyone else really cared about the other founding fathers before Hamilton became a thing)
All their great achievements lost to history, all because of some stupid rivalry and stupid decisions made.
(I always said that in another life, they could've been good friends. This is literally the whole reason I'm writing this whole essay)
Just like Wilbur's and Eret's story. Wilbur founded an entire nation only to be remembered as the leader who blew it up and Eret remembered as the traitor even after he reformed and change his ways. It's not fair but it's history, nothing we can do about it.

Absolutely beautiful. The best part is that both of them could be the one singing this and it would work. Wilbur and Eret have beautiful stories that parallel each other and you captured that perfectly. Love this so much!
Am. Man. Da. You sure know how to write a bridge. I remember the first time time heard Forgiveness. It was show day, and I was outside the corner shop, off to buy my two waters to leave side stage. My friend sent me the link to the song and I started listening as I waited. I spent the verses marvelling at the accuracy of your lyrics - wow, she really gets these characters! As if that wasn't enough, the bridge then knocked me over. The rise in emotion, intensity and firework noises blew me away.
Your music climbs amazingly to climaxes: Forgiveness, the outpouring of emotion at the end of Play With Dynamite, the final verse of Once Upon A Time, Cat and Mouse's stakes. You've only gone and done it again. Measured and contemplative through the verses, and then, what's this? An accelerating drum line? Electric guitars??! Your vocals take it up an notch; I love you ability to set up a great piece of storytelling and then provide a dramatic volta. And the quietening works so well here for those regretful moments. I've been a fan of yours for a while, and what you do with your talent is amazing.
