- This November marks 1 year since I released my first Dream SMP song. It's crazy to think that I've come so far since then. Thank you all so much for your support. It means so much to me! I have a lot more content planned for this year, Dream SMP and more, so I hope you stick around! I hope you enjoy this song as well! Since "Please Don't Make Me Choose" was released November 5th, 2020, I wanted to make a song that reflected my first one. I decided it was about time for Tommy's Reprise.
This beautiful artwork was done by @dragon_subway on Instagram! They were so kind to make the artwork for my anniversary song. They actually made the original art for my song "Please Don't Make Me Choose" and "You Were My Friend" as well!
Go check out their art here: / dragon_subway
Big thanks to Vito Salvatore Gutilla for the amazing violin and Claudio Tristano for the awesome guitar! And, as always, a big shoutout to my best friend and producer, Grace Thygeson! She helped me produce this song, along with so many other songs I've released. And, for the first time, Grace provided some vocals! She sang the tenor harmony at the end of the song because she has quite the lower range!

Q: Can I use your song in my animatic?
A: I’m totally fine with it, as long as you credit me. My songs have UA-cam Content ID though. But don't worry, I won't report or take down any of your creations! I love watching all of your wonderful animatics! I just have the Content ID so it's easier to track if someone re-uploads my music.
Q: What are the chords to the song?
A: I recently added the chords to every song in the description of the video!
Q: Will you upload the instrumental?

Could you start to put your music on Pandora too?
@@jellywolfplayz I will look into it!
Thank you
Amazing song, cant wait for it to gwt on spotify
It’s on Spotify now people!
I like how wilbur barely ever uses armor but still so many people are intimidated by him and/or have to take drastic actions to take him down
The song aged, it aged like a fine vintage wine.
Huh... You're right.
So good?
How ironic. This song once meant something for a mere character, now it truly represents who Wilbur is. I want the old Wilbur back, I want everything to go back the way it was. Just one more time 😭
😔
Welp why do all of my hero's fall down from fame....
Same.
Why is it so hard for heroes to stay heroes? It shouldn’t be hard to be a good person.
What happened?
This. This truly embodies what a reprise should be. The references, the recurring beat, it's all so good. This is one of my favorites. Absolutely incredible job as always, Amanda.
Thank you!! :D
Much agreed, this was an amazing song.

*’When Dream Found Tommy Scene’*
Yeah....
You know what is crazy to me?
Generally, when there is this kind of set-up between characters, where there are two friends, one who is the hero, desperately trying to save everything, and the other is slowly becoming a villain who will ruin everything. The hero does everything they can to avoid giving up on their friend, who then rejects all of the attempts, and inevitably becomes a villain anyway.
Normally, the rest of the story follows with the hero, in their despair, watching the villain go too far so they have no choice but to stop them and go against them.
The hero personally fights their once friend-now villain, and with bitterness, they save the day and defeat the villain, afterward mourning the loss of them.
That doesn't happen here.
There's the expected "Hero" Tommy and "Villain" Will set up. Tommy does everything he possibly can to fight for what's right.
He is the hero who fights to save everything...and he ultimately can't change the villain, like most stories.
But instead of then angrily, and bitterly facing their old friend as a new enemy, he gives up as the HERO.
He ultimately can't bear to lose Will, even if he could have played hero and fought him, he can't stand to be against Will.
If Tommy had the opportunity to have stopped him by having Wilbur arrested, executed, or beaten, he never would have done it, no matter how dire things became,.
It's the same with Tubbo and everyone else he cherished. Despite their actions, no matter how terrible he still would have chosen them over stopping them.
Despite WIll hurting HIM and the betrayal that came with his choices. He stayed.
He was willing to lose everything else he as the "hero" may have fought to protect, to ultimately stay by the side of his friend-turned-villain.
That is probably the first, if not ONLY case I have seen that happen with the hero of the story vs friend-turned-villain plotline.
Techno and others may have called Tommy the "hero" of the story, but ultimately, he stopped being a hero the moment he wasn't willing to fight Wilbur for L'manberg's sake.
Tommy is a genuinely good-hearted person, with good intentions and loyalty to what is the right thing to do, despite his rough pranks and "big man who thinks he's better" exterior persona.
He is willing to do anything to stand up for what's right, but he also cares more about his emotional connections than what's "right" at the end of the day.
So he's not the hero of the story despite the responsibility he feels to be a hero.
It makes it that much more devastating that Will is still taking advantage of him, and won't change,
because Tommy can't leave him on his own, and he certainly can't when Wilbur insists he stays. So instead he just lives in his self-loathing, despising the fact he can't leave his loved ones even when they hurt him
Beautifully said. I absolutely agree.
"Wilbur being a Hero turned Villain" not anymore he has a redemption arc now
Wow just wow
@@hanahvillapana1448 Wilbur being a hero turned Villan turn hero

When the shadow from the first song emerges back from the smoke and darkness. Can't wait for this anniversary song!!!
Missed the premiere, but yoooohhh!!! The references and callback to "please don't make me choose" was so good. Amazing as always Amanda.
This is such a throwback to “Please Don’t Make Me Choose”. And that song was the one I found you through and had a really big impact on me.
All the differences and similarities between the two bring out new things in characters. I absolutely adore your work!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad my music was able to make an impact
At the end she plays the end of please don't make me choose
Honestly, I can see this being used outside a DSMP context and I think that's an achievement
Oh fs. I can easily picture this being used in the context of a rp I have going on with friends and it fits perfectly
This does perfectly fit a character of mine now that I think about it 🤔
I can see that too :D
Lol same here
100%
whats scary and so smart is this song shows how tommy understands how wilbur is manipulating him but he just goes with it because he lacks love
the beat that keeps repeating can show that its happened over and over with different people but mostly wilbur
this is so good-
...y'know, this song is incredible for that moment you have your Fulbright proposal due at midnight and you churn out the BEST writing of your life LMAO
Anniversary season OMG

This song is soooo good! A perfect reprise. Tommy’s going over the mistake of the past while also reflecting on his true desire of Wilbur possibly reverting back to his old, sane self. The part at the end where the “Please Don’t Make Me Choose” snippet joins the “Play with Dynamite” gave me shivers. It was amazing!
You can see I'm the art how much Tommy has changed, he looks so much older and broken.
SKGLKS i cant believe i just saw this now but i like how the improvement plays well with the reprise, "please dont make me choose" was when c!tommy was younger and less wiser that it shows in the lyrics and how the melody goes, his choice of words portrayed in the lyrics - making the end words in each line match - while here in "play with dynamite" c!tommy grew up and experienced so much that he's singing confidently, he knows what he wants to say and it lines up, he knows what he went through and wants c!wilbur to hear that he's so done with him
Another title: “please don’t make me choose reprise”
It’s incredible, love this song so much
Now THAT'S a reprise.
I just got chills and flashbacks. The entire way the song embodies Tommy accepting his fate with manipulations despite being so hurt and knowing it would hurt. It is like he kept going back and forth in trying to find his older Wilbur before he finally gave in and realized he couldn't bring back his Wilbur. And then bringing back "Please Don't Make Me Choose" just made this even better as he begged to go back and forget what his life has come to be.
“Play With Dynamite”
-It shows the fact that he had some child inside.
This song is amazing! It really shows how Tommy feels about Wilbur! It is really sad too, and I almost started crying because I felt so bad for Tommy, because he knows that he can't stop Wilbur, and he just has to accept one of his best friends acting like this.
*masterpiece*
"rue the day" has a strong competitor now
Yep.
I have a new favorite
I’m so excited for this. I remember last year I sang the ‘please don’t make me choose’ song while decorating my Christmas tree. I annoyed everyone in my house. Hopefully I can annoy them again this year with this song.
THE MELODY OF PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE IN THE CHORUS INSTRUMENTAL- ALSO THE LYRICS ARE PERFECTLY REMINISCENT OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP
please don’t make me choose was the first ever dream smp original song i listened to. that drawing makes me feel very good things, i’m excited
~Lyrics~
And here you are, back at it again
Getting me into really tight situations
You always seem to know
Just what buttons to push
It's really scary how I'm such an open book
To you
Shut down my rhyme and reason
Just want me to believe in
Everything that you do
It doesn't matter who
You take down along the way
Empty promises you make
With you it's all just a game
Why do I play the part of the fool with such
An open heart
I already know how this will end
I know I'll just get hurt again
Know I should listen to my gut
But you're just too easy to trust
Do I seek comfort in your lies
Why do I play with dynamite
And here you are back at it again
You're always quick to remind me
That you're my friend
And that you always have my very best interest
In mind
Do you really think that I'm that blind
I know just what you're doing
And I just let you do it
Cause it’s pointless to fight
Know you made up your mind
I know what you came to do
I know that you'll follow through
No matter what I say
So I guess I'll play the part of the fool with such
An open heart
I already know how this will end
I know I'll just get hurt again
Know I should listen to my gut
But you're just too easy to trust
Do I seek comfort in your lies
Why do I play with dynamite
And I wish that we could go
Back to the days
Back when you'd hear the words I'd say
Back when I was still myself
Back when you heard my cries for help
I know there's still a part of me
That holds on to what we used to be
Before you burnt it all to ash
I really want that person back
So I'll just play the part
Of the fool with such an open heart
I already know how this will end
I know I'll just get hurt again
Know I should listen to my gut
But you're just too easy to trust
Do I seek comfort in your lies
Why do I play with dynamite
Oh its not too late
(Please don't make me choose)
To go back
(Between the life I had with you)
It's not too late to take it back
(And the moral thing to do)
It's not too late
Don't turn your back on me
(I really wish your act was just a ruse)
Oh it's not too late
(But I know you've lost your mind)
To go back
(And I know that it's my time)
It's not too late to take it back
(Do I join you at your side)
It's not too late
Don't turn your back
(Or do I let you face your own)
On me
(Demise)
Thank you for the lyrics^^
Ayoo Arcadian...
I always admire those who take it upon themselves to type out all the lyrics!! Thank you!!!
Got literal chills at 3:04 when the lyrics from "Please Don't Make Me Choose" played over themselves. I'm in love with evil/hopeful reprises like this one.
Perfect, just perfect. A reprise of her first ever song and it matches up so well, the drawing, even to the end lyrics “it’s not to late to go back, it’s to late to take it back, its not to late, don’t turn your back on me” And “please don’t make me choose between the life I had with you or the Moral thing to do, I really wish you act was just a ruse, but I know you’ve lost your mind and I know that it’s my time do I join you at your side or do I let you face your own demise” come from the song Please Don’t Make Me Choose, her first ever song. I also noticed a lyric in the song “back to the days” another one of her songs she made. This is a perfect definition of a reprise and a perfect song to the Dream Smp Unfathomable work as always Amanda keep going. “The man on the top of the mountain didn’t fall there.
If you read to this part please just consider liking this took me super long to make and if you read it I thank you
Forgot to mention this and it won't let me edit the post but they also use the same font for the letters, and if it's not obvious the words are located in the same area like they are in the the first song
Also in the middle of the video it says “I know what you came to do” “I know that you follow through with are lines from Rue the day another one of her songs she mine without the I know part
It also says empty promises you make which is from her song empty promises
This is so amazing. It shows Tommy's feelings about Wilbur's manipulation.
Tommy can't stop trusting Wilbur, no matter how much pain he causes. He just wants the old Wilbur back, and maybe he thinks that by following Wilbur, he'll get the old Wilbur back. I love this reprise so much.
I'm running out of words to describe how good Amanda's songs are. The beat is simply fantastic in this song! The keyboards also freaking rock!
That was so cool! I heard it on Spotify and had to come on here to praise it. I LOVE how at the end it fell into Please Don’t Make Me Choose!
One of my favorite songs from you.
Thank you so much!! That means a lot
This is such a good reprise. It holds a deep connection with the previous one and it really shows Tommy's conflicted feelings regarding Wilbur. The increased complexity of the beat is genius. It feels like it represents his character being more tired and traumatized than before.
I think if Tommy we're to have a villain arc, this would be the song were things go downhill. Then there would be a final reprise with him finally snapping.
THE ART IS EVEN BY THE SAME PERSON IM GONNA CRY
I was here since that first song and I’ve loved seeing all your songs!! I love the nods to your other songs, like Back to the Days (always makes me cry) and the ending part made me smile SO MUCH!,
Thank you for making these wonderful songs, I always look forward to and love them so much! ❤️
Thank you so much! You've been here for a while, wow! That's so awesome
I love the fact that this song represents her first song (I believe). The font, music, this goes all the way through all of her songs.
me casually wearing an incredibly giddy expression, coming back to this and remembering everything
ok I might just be reaching but it sounds like there are a lot of references to amanda's other songs as well as please don't make me choose!
"empty promises you make" and "with you it's all just a game" (0:41 to 0:45) are reminiscent of promises you couldn't keep and chessboard.
"i know what you came to do / i know that you'll follow through" (1:33 to 1:38) reprises "i told you what i came to do / i promise i will follow through" from rue the day.
back to the days is namedropped at 2:10
some lines from don't stray are repeated almost word for word with "back when i was still myself / back when you heard my cries for help" at 2:16 to 2:22
also, "i know there's still a part of me / that holds on to what we used to be" and "before you burnt it all to ash" (2:23 to 2:32) sound like similar lines from bittersweet and rewritten in stone
what a lovely song! even if the references weren't intentional there's still clearly a lot of effort put into it and it shows :]
edit: okay am I crazy or do all the lyrics that reference other songs have the glitch effect
You might just be the first person in the comment sections who has figured out the glitch effect meaning...
Love the analysis
I lost it when it went to the part with please don’t make me chose. I can’t believe you added that in!!! I cannot express how happy I was to hear the words “Please don’t make me chose.”
OMG. The call back at the end. BEAUTIFUL. I love it so much!!
I feel like this would also apply to Tommy and Dream as well as Tommy and Wilbur, it’s so cool!
I really felt emotion from this song. It is such a good follow up to Please Don't Make Me Choose. It actually reminds me of my mother, which also makes it cooler for me.
Please Don't Make Me Choose was brilliant.
This is better :D
The bittersweet nostalgia, the nods to 'Rewritten in Stone' and 'Rue the Day', the uneasy, slightly frantic sound of the instrumentals, the slightly self-loathing lyrics, the 'please don't make me choose' lyrics at the end adding a bit of futile hope despite Tommy knowing better . . . It's so jaded, and so catchy!
Thank you so much! Also, nice job picking up on some of the references ;)
Oh primes Amanda!! That was so well done~ As all your works at of course.
Looking at the cover art, it really shows how much and yet how little everything in these two ahve changed. In 'Please don't make me choose', Wilbur stands in the back, the only thing we see is a silhouette and him manically smiling. Tommys in the front, defensive position up as he stares up in fear, tears in his eyes. In this reprise though, their positions remain the same. Wilbur in the back but Toms in the front. HOWEVER, now we can see Wilbur in detail, as if the silhouette of the first was just Tommy not being able to process or accept what Wilbur had become. Yet here, since we can see him, every element of Wilbur, the red eyes, manic grin, his pose of forced relaxation, it really sends a message him that Tommy has accepted it. That his old Wilbur isn't coming back no matter what he does, and so he can recognise Wilbt in full whereas before he was an empty shadow. It speaks volumes on Tommy's character. Now onto Tommy in the cover, compared to the first, he looks resigned. He looks almost done with this world. He just doesn't care anymore, doesn't care that Wilbur's manipulating him, doesn't care that he's letting himself believe it for that small ounce of comfort.
In the original song, Tommy is confused and petrified. He doesn't know what's happening or why Wilbur's acting like this beyond Wil having lost his mind. It was his first time dealing with manipulation like that. This Tommy in the reprise, however, knows full-well what Wilbr is doing. He just lets it happen. Why bother trying to fight it when acceptance at least brings a small amount of comfort? If accepting the manipulation leaves him more time to spend with a Wilbur that seems more like the one of before even though he logically knows that Wil is never coming back.
Tommy still so clearly resents Wilbur for what he did, blowing up L'manburg and subsequently dying and leaving Toms behind. But he's come to terms with it. You can resent a person while still acknowledging you're not the biggest fan of them.
I think that's how I can tell you're such an amazing artist. You've perfectly captured Tommy now and his development from the kid he used to be. You built off of what you did a year ago and breathed into it new life. Thanks you so much for being such a beautiful and amazing creator Amanda
Thank you so much! I loved reading your comment. I really appreciate all that you had to say and love your take away of the song and art! Thank you for taking the time to leave this awesome analysis and thank you so much for the kind words

So nobody gonna talk about how Wilbur let his real self show with his DSMP character? Hes a genius. He knew we wouldnt suspect anything if it was all him "acting" like he was abusive...but nope. He was letting himself show us what he TRULY was. The joy he felt when he was terrorizing his friends? That was genuine.
And because of the DSMP, we KNEW he had that psychopathic ability to manipulate and abuse...
Why didnt we put two and two together until now?
I can't express how much I love this song.
When I started to sing the lyrics to "Please don't make me choose" towards the end I was thrilled to have them start in the song itself. This was so fun.

Dynamite . . . a hint to the first song. Can't wait.
When I heard the Rue the Day reference I was like: “What the- Oh my- that’s so cool” and then I scanned the video for more references and almost every time it has a glitch effect (I say almost because it’s a specific glitch effect, so other glitches I don’t think signal a reference, and I’m not sure if the open book lyrics is an exception or if I was very sloppy when looking for what it was referencing) it was another song reference. That’s a big brain songwriter thing. Nice.
Please Don't Make Me Choose was one of, if not THE, first songs I found of yours, and still one of my favorites...I love how this song plays into Please Don't Make Me Choose, but it still has it's own sounds and themes too it as well.
