- Today I'm back in Hearts of Iron 4 and see if this is the worst focus tree ever added to HOI4. It might also be the first time I've ever played as New Zealand in a video / ever!

Tbf, all the dominions have been a bit forgotten. None of them have been updated since the first DLC "Together for Victory" and are looking painfully out of date

My great grandfather served on the HMNZS Leander in WW2 so it’s sad to see that Alex would have killed him in the Battle of Wilhelmshaven
I am a Kiwi. The focus tree is not broken, this is how our country actually works - and why I have never played as New Zealand
Had Paradox given new zealand a better focus tree the game would be unplayable.
Even one of those kiwi bird divisions can easily cause 1000 soft and hard attack (with basic infantry weapons). On top of the 30 km/h movement speed.
Paradox show add a hidden focus for Australia and New Zealand just for the memes: "conscript the Emus" that spawns insane Emu cavalry divisions. That would boost their gameplay at least for a day or two lmao

My favourite part of this video is when Alex the Rambler said “it’s Ramblin’ time” and rambled all over Italy.

Man, it really is remarkable how the UK AI was so fierce in this game, taking control of Italy and North Africa before pushing further into Europe with absolutely no help at all. That's what the history records of this world told me.

This use to be one of my most played nations when I first started doing random mp online, Its great if you want to be a naval/air focused minor, also really cool that you can form Polynesia as a dominion!

Alex, the royal navy sent 2 flagships to the pacific which promptly sunk; the royal navy in the pacific was a meme if anything New Zealand could only improve on it.
This was one of the most entertaining Rambler HOI4 videos in quite a while for me. I really enjoyed the narrow focus on the NZ Marines doing their various naval invasions and that contribution to the overall war effort. I was more invested in the story of this little task force than I usually am with giant fronts filled with dozens and dozens of divisions.
I would love to visit New Zealand. To see were the Lord of the Ring was made.
Pretty unremarkable other than the scenery.

Really enjoyed that! I love minor nations and focusing on specific areas like marines or air force to aid your allies

The AI has been weird since BBA. I'm still just on NSB and in my last game I did an Austria-Hungary run where Germany declared on me during Sudetenland and... I just rolled over them? I looked at their divisions and they were just packed with units they weren't producing equipment for?
whenever i play australia or new zealand I like to convert one of the light cruisers into a carrier
Small tip to help with those weird frontlines that pop up without your input, when that happens (usually after a naval invasion) pause the game, set a garrison order so all other orders get deleted and then set your new frontline so the units don’t start wandering through the map.

I think a series of how to do the achievements or like a Trophy Hunting Series would be really fun
Fun watching Alex just try and build a little country to be the best it can be
NZ is actually quite a good tree as long as you structure your entire playthrough around Polynesian Federation and then, and this is key, capturing Taiwan. It's a core for you and you will get obscene amounts of manpower.

I've been having a similar issue with the frontlines. Had to quit a playthrough of Germany because micro, especially in Africa, was completely impossible

One of my favorite things to do is release the Polynesian Empire and play as them and try to defeat Japan as a naval empire.

Well that Focus Tree was atrocious, but seeing such a dedicated focus on these specific landings and maneuvers was really nice.

we need A to Z on every country
Something different to an A-Z of nations could be: Comparing different branches of countries focus trees.
E.g. ranking the Democratic, Socialist, Monarchist/Non-Aligned and Mustachist branches of a nation's focus trees, based on how good they are. Since some countries have very good trees in one category, but horrible ones in another.
When you compared France to new Zealand what you should actually remember is that you paid extra to play the NZ tree. France one comes free

New Zealand is so forgotten that they’re the only nation with a unique focus that has no country specific achievements
Would be sweet for dlcs to be updated to be slightly in line with current dlcs, the dominion focus trees are do shit. Also Australia being about 4 states and therefore having nearly no economy is very frustrating. Also the base game japan tree is possibly even worse

its not the worst focus tree in the game, u can get 1942(?) submariens in like 1937, 1938, you get a lot of boats and planes for free. its probably the best minor
Fun fact: The air force that you start with in HOI4 is more capable than NZ's 2022 air force, because it doesn't have one :D

Answering question in the title, no. Canadian focus tree is much worse. Not only they need to choose between getting rid of great depression (last step 10% consumer good and some output penalties) and conscript crisis among french canadian (-30% rec. pop factor) but they also have most of their economic focuses locked either by high war tension or being in war, so no eco before 1940 if you stay democratic.
As a kiwi I would find it embarrassing if we where buffed any more than we are in hoi4.
At least the kiwis are enthusiastic

Honestly, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the Portugal focus tree, most of it is just industry and 70 days. :)
The monarchist path is completely overpowered, so definitely not Portugal
