To train regulars you gotta go for the Switzerland On The Offense focus, rather than neutral Entente
There's a few others I think he could have gone as well for it. Fascist side has a similar mobilization thing, there's also the path of Secret Allies that gives you the "Jump into Action" focus doing it. But yeah. Once you do all your Militia turns into normal infantry blocks. Can get up to 40 width through the Militia Upgrade mechanic, along with Field Hospital Support Companies on all of them through that Saint Bernard focus.
Actually gets kind of silly as you upgrade your Field Hospitals, along with that spirit you get from it. They're stupidly effective and you'll never suffer any penalties for casualties taken in a war.
Swiss focus tree has so much micro in it with all the ideology percentages and the federal council bar, it is so confusing.

In terms of base game hoi, it's definitely more complicated, but the learning curve isn't too steep, and it's less annoying than the Italian balance
If Germany goes monarchist and forms Austria-Hungry, you can still annex them with prevent anchunlus and you will get cores on Hungry and Bohemia. It’s awesome.

Heh, I just got done doing my By Blood Alone Swiss run myself. Got both the "You're locked in here with me" thing on declaring on the Nazis and winning, and the "Survive a defensive war intact" thing. Was pretty fun but I got kind of upset with the peace deal in the end because I put in the work. I put the Axis down and did most of the big gains (taking all of Nazi Germany, Austria, Hungary, and liberating a good part of Poland) before the final capitulation. For all the effort the Swiss got... well I got Austria. It seems the "Eat rocks and die" standard is still perhaps a bit too powerful as the USSR got pushed nearly all the way to the Urals... and they got over half of Europe. Meanwhile as the Swiss I lost about 40,000 men and inflicted 1.7 million casualties and got... well it did basically double my size but damned I felt like I didn't get as much as I really deserved from the new system considering the "Eat rocks and die" sounded like it was something they weren't trying to reward. The UK and USSR got practically everything for just... sucking.
Plus side the AI FINALLY stopped doing that hell they do to France and splitting it into 2-5 countries in the peace deal. It did come back intact.
Time to start WW3 over it lol
Switzerland was the first country I played in this expansion. It seems like they tried to make a mini game in the balance of power with the focus tree. But it's way more so than Italy. I found it somewhat tedious and confusing. It almost seems like there is just one correct way to do it and not much room for error.
Fortunately everything else I've found so far in this expansion has been top notch, and it's turning into one of my favorite DLC's so far.
this DLC content is very good, however all the negative review on steam are complaining about bugs
@@hana_irl123 it's too bad people go out of their way to complain about bugs and skew the ratings. Updates always happen. It's 2022, it's normal for all games/dlc to have bugs on release. I suppose it's because they know they can fix it later, and games have also gotten more complex.
And I haven't even seen any real bugs that are worthy of complaint. The Swiss tier one fighter has a picture of a jet And the icons to keep seperate airplane designs seperate in air wings don't seem to work. Eg. A medium airframe template for CAS and a seperate design for anti ship use won't be kept seperate in air wings despite choosing a different tag. Other than those minor and very fixable issues, it's seems to be pretty solid for me.
Today, I ended up with a game where 4 different versions of Mexico existed simultaneously. I think this new DLC will be great.
New Swiss focus tree is AWESOME but there is one slight problem. If you go against axis they shred you with air and you get -150% air superiority multiplier and allies can not help you - or you can't have a decent airforce.
As far as I can tell, currently you can only get 4 research slots as the Swiss and also only if you join the Allies. It's like Turkey all over again
True, but there’s also an advisor who gives a 20% bonus to all research, so at least we have that
I thought the same thing at first, but I accidentally made the research advisor President and his presidential initiative actually gives you a research slot

I have noticed some of the hotkeys seems to be a bit buggy this patch. I had the same issue with my pause button, as well as F1 to view troops. Luckily an alt tab and quick reaction to manually pausing saved me 🙃
I'm pretty sure this has always been a bug in all the paradox games (eu4/CK2, unsure about CK3). I've gotten it occasionally, the game just doesn't receive keyboard commands until you alt-tab and then alt-tab back.
@@Programmdude wow some kind of crazy chance I've never encountered it before then. I play a lot of their games and only just started getting it. And yeah my solution was a quick alt tab

The best part of all these BBA videos from various hoi content creators, is hearing just how each of them is going to mispronounce the Swiss and Ethiopian names and titles.
you have to try playing as the Aussa country it has a secret focus tree its not bad
Your keyboard not responding in game is a very old bug that still comes up rvery now and then. It happens randomly when you alt-tab sometimes. Luckily you can nearly always fix it by just alt-tabbing out and back into the game again.
This kind of reminds me of my first Ethiopia playthrough.

no idea if i was just extremely lucky but you should try out medium fighters.
add as much canons/smg to it as possible, best engine, self sealing fuel tank, as much armor as possible.
agility will drop to 1.
but since agility only adds up to 30 percent to stats if the difference is 100 or over... if your air defence is high enough it just does not seem to matter...
it seems that flying tanks are now viable.
tried the same for cas, worked too.
medium cas, was frequently interrupted, but lost almost 0 planes.
might be the way to go for high industry "low" manpower countries...
was in an air battle over france where around 400 of my medium fighters were steadily chipping away at around 3000 allied fighters. with almost zero losses for me.
My keyboard does the exact same thing in the game, the pause button just stops working and I lose a day or two
the intro never stops cringing me and to be honest i'm glad his content is still this good

Out of interest Alex if you don't mind me asking what are your PC specs?
I'm getting a new build and Hoi4 in my current build gets really slow by 41' and basically unplayable by 43'
In Kaiserreich it's basically unplayable by 40'
So I'd like to compare against Hoi4 youtubers who seem to run it pretty fast until 45/46'.
@Chives Hoi4 performance isn't my sole concern as I play graphically demanding stuff too (grand strategy and rpgs are my main genres) and I've have read elsewhere Paradox games are more effected by base clock speed and cache then number of cores which agrees with what you're saying.
I'm getting the 5900 and Im just wondering how my new rig stacks up against people like Alex/ISP/Bo etc cuz they obviously run Paradox games really fast.

Hey, I'm new(ish) to the game, and when BBA came out all of my mods stopped working, saying they are made for a different version of the game. Is there any way to correct this soon?
You have to wait for the mod authors to update it to the latest version of the game. Or to play with your mods you can rollback to a previous version of the game.

I just played a game of Germany and I took out the Allies (including Canada, Austria, New Zealand etc.), USA, Poland and Italy by May 1938 and I have the German, British, French and US fleets (550+ ships) the new peace deal is crazy

Alex, I don’t believe you miss clicked because when me and a friend were playing multiplayer the same thing happened to me. I think it’s possibly a bug that for some reason it auto selects the first one. I was reading through them and suddenly one was chosen and the box dropped away. Screwed our whole game up sadly :/

My Swiss playthrough had me end with over 52 million core manpower. That route that Alex called "boring"? It lets you influence, annex, and core any neighboring territory. Takes a long time and has RNG though, but it's conquest without bullets being fired.
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

I hated how you cant create your own templates and have to wait 6 years to finally unlocked your templates, that and even if you broke your isolationism the game still treats you like your still in isolationism while having an okayish focus tree. Meanwhile Italy and Ethiopia in my opinion dont have those problems and in fact much more fun to play with.
