Now you actually have to use your tanking ability and and positioning which a lot of Tank players aren't real tank players. This mid-season patch did improve the tank experience. Tanks are still playing counterwatch but it's not really a bad thing if you know how to play all the tanks.

Rein isn’t like the most picked hero of course, but considering how is you play him right and not just stand it in the open and use your shield, he plays a big part in helping the team move forward. He was actually used quite a bit in OW EA sports which was great to see. I’ve gotten a lot of value from him on circuit. Narrow locations is where he performs best at

On certain maps and against certain comps he can be very strong but if you get counter swapped you basically have to swap

Man, it's crazy to see tier lists like this that change dramatically every half season even though, for the most part, most of the heroes haven't changed that much. Like, it wasn't that long ago tier lists were like "Lifeweaver is A tier because Tree of Life is so crazy and can be up most fights." And then a couple months later with not much having changed, Lifeweaver is back to being bottom of the barrel. Or Ana is either "she duels flankers really well and due to sleep dart she's hard to dive," OR "Ana gets rolled as soon as she uses sleep dart or misses it." Uh, like both of those things have been true pretty much EVERY season and are not mutually exclusive, so tier list makers kind of just decide where she's felt in their games and then decide which version of Schrodinger's Ana she is. I feel like most of these tier lists are just "this is what my games have felt like, and I'll blow some smoke trying to explain it."

A more realistic tank tier list from a GM Tank: S Tier: Hog, Mauga (Orisa being nerfed allows them to run rampant, if you dont have an Ana or they have a good Kiri, GG) A Tier: Winston, Queen, Sigma (Winton is S tier but gatekept from Hog and Mauga, Queen good in brawl now after Buffs, Sigma S tier on his maps like circuit and havana) B Tier: Doom, Orisa, Ball, DVA, RAM. (Good heroes but they just get rolled by counters if you dont play them properly) C Tier: Rein, Zarya (not good, get beat by most tanks in the brawl, way too easy to counter, outdated heroes.) Idk man bring 6v6 back.
I don't agree with Mauga being S Tier. He's just not as good against other tanks and his damage in general is not that good imo, at least compared to Hog or Winston who either have really high damage or more consistent damage due to not having to aim. At best, he's B Tier due to his durability.
You can’t bring 6v6 back dude. Dps queue times would skyrocket, and dps players have the highest population of players. It’s crazy people forget what queue times were like after role queue was introduced. Now, if you want 6v6 back, what you people should be asking for is open queue to come back as the main format to play in. I know tank feels like crap to play, but keep in mind that going back to 6v6 will only make the game fun for you and people who voiced your opinion. Because I’m also a GM tank, and I don’t want 6v6 to come back. Tank is bad in every game that I’ve played that has them, I’ve personally just accept it, and play the game. I have tuned into the guys streams and he is a plat tank with hundreds of games played. He mainly counterpicks at slight inconvenience. He doesnt really know what hes talking about.
This whole patch hasnt fixed much. Tank still feels terrible 90% of the time. Queue times haven't changed across roles. What did they actually accomplish?

But Ram’s projectiles never did much against Rein. The reason he was so good against Rein was his punches that went through the shield… which is buffed now because of the armor changes.
In a 1v1, or at least with similar starting health, Rein just does more DPS to Ram than Ram does to Rein. If they are positioned to where they are taking close to equal amounts of damage/cooldowns from both teams, then the Rein will win the brawl. Charge is especially good against Ram for bursting him down.
@@kommandantkillcode In my experience, I almost always have to swap off Rein if the enemy picks Ram because he can just bully you with no counterplay If you get anywhere near him. And getting to him takes resources. You also can’t shield while pinning so that’s also a death sentence lol.
Actually it is a good idea. I love playing Pharah. I've been saying this since day 1 of the Pharah rework. She is the new DPS movement queen. She doesn't need a nerf because she gets checked by hitscan counters like Cass, Ashe, 76, sojourn, and even Moria. If your not able to fight a decent Pharah but I'm sorry then it's a skill issue. Pharah has consistent damage and better movement then echo and I find myself living way more with pharah then using echo to beam down and get burst damage on one single target. If you think you can just win against a Pharah then your dead wrong because even with hard counters a good Pharah knows how to use cover and bait out hard counters. I would know because I'm trying to be a one trick Pharah. It works 39% of the time only because the whole team counters me and I really really have to fight if I go solo Pharah on all maps and gamemodes.
The only thing keeping Pharah down is hard counters and even fuel management. One of the small buffs I want is for Pharah to use 2-3% less fuel because it is definitely a lot harder to maintain fuel and you really really have to use cover. Why be a Pharah hater when you can literally hard counter her and slap her around. Unless no offense your just some person that only plays qp.

@@Demetri25honestly ball would be good then, assuming you keep his primary fire as a peashooter then he cant really kill much but he can definitely bait out cooldowns better and with cc immunity on fireball he'd have a way of actually wasting resources that didnt require him nearly dying every time any amount of cc touches him. Mines would still be a situational ult at best so honestly ball would be balanced.

I’m mostly playing rein and ball and winning games, i create so much space by feeding and creating chaos in the back line, pin around corners for unexpected insta elims, got to be creative
Its honestly hilarious that despite the ball buffs hes still bad because he cant kill anything with his primary unless he has a dps go in with him, so all the buffs did was make him slightly better at being annoying but mines is still easy as hell to avoid, and if he tries to pick a support all of them except zen and mercy can out heal his damage. They accomplished nothing.
I’m winning 60 percent and climbing on ball, his stall is fantastic, mines a great over time win condition, somewhat map dependent but i win lots of games w less damage but by just hit and run and stall strats
Rein is clunky, thats the problem. He has only one cooldown that does tree things, cc, burst demage and mobilit, witch means that he feels held back. Lets use an exemple: theres an enemy tank capping+ a low helth dps, you have tree options, 1) charge the tank away to save the base, but get gunned down. 2) charge the dps killing It, but loses the cap and a lot of helth. 3) try dueling them and charge away if are losing, but if you flie you lose the cap. You had tree options because all options were in the same 6 seconds cooldown, but if charge were like defense matrix with that bar thing, the gameplay would be a lot more smooth, in that same exemple: you push the tank out the cap "stop" charge the dps and then escape. What do you guys think?
To where Hanzo was meant to be a sniper, taking that away from him, they need to make his arrows do more damage the closer he is to his target. Like an actual bow would do.
Not sure what it is but your camera keeps going forward and backward just a little bit. Can give you a bit of motion sickness. Don't know if it's trying to focus or just moving with your desk.
Ramattra D and Reinhardt Top A. I've seen it all. Actually Reinhardt dies even faster after the armor changes against mid to long range heroes. (Cassidy/Sojourn especially) The biggest wins for Reinhardt are the 50% knockback resistance and the Orisa nerfs that allowed him to breath a little. He still explodes the moment your shield drops and his weaknesses are all still there. Is he in a better place? Sure he is more viable, but I would not put him past a B tier.

To clarify, in overwatch 1 armor was modified to mitigate a flat 30% of damage from beams because the 50% was broken and made beams almost useless on tanks. I’m not sure if they carried that over or not but that’s how it used to work.
Called someone a lazybones for counterpicking me on tank in qp. Guy goes "guess someone doesnt know how to play our game" ive played since the ow1 came out... Since then, i havent touched the game in 4 months its unplayable
QP is just sweaty these days. I was playing qp after not playing for a couple weeks and a teammate kept saying “Support Diff”. When we lost in Overtime in round 3 of control and he says “Nah report our supports because they have to be throwing”.

Great vid Freedo, I have mixed feelings about this patch and overall feel like playing tank has gotten harder in some ways, but that's probably because I mostly solo queue. Btw just some quick production notes! Try turning off your camera's autofocus (or reduce its sensitivity, if it will let you), that should keep it from going blurry/adjusting constantly. If you do turn it off, you'll have to focus it manually instead, so be aware of that. Also, the volume of your intro music and the volume of your mic are sooo different! People usually adjust their volume depending on how a video starts, so when you come in on mic and it's a way different level, it is not a good viewer experience! I'd just recommend you turn up the intro audio level a bit to match your average mic level. Anyways catch you on ladder sometime brother!
Mercy is solid D tier. Orisa is still ok and at least B tier. Rein is not A more like B or maybe C as he still just gets focused. You should really watch a Flats.
Freedo i think you haven't played Genji recently. Please, try to dust off some shurikens and play OTP Genji for a couple of hours, then come back here and tell me how "good" he is.
Listen yall Rein really is not A tier in practice at all. Dont get me wrong he can definitely have good games in the right circumstances- however thats IF YOUR TEAM PLAYS AROUND THE REIN PICK. Rein is still held back by the fact that almost the whole team has to play with/around him. If ur supports aren't committed to you like you're their full-time job AND the spouse they come home to every night, you're still just sitting in a corner AFK 75% of the time. Rein has a good game when he's pretty much the only one getting heals/support on your team 90% of the time and ur dps are playing around that fact- either playing around your shield at the right time or popping off from long range/bodyguarding ur supports.

The moment the changes came out I immediately loaded up a quick play match and picked rein… after instantly dying on my first life my internet died and I just chose to do something else, lol
Ram def is not top imo. But I wouldn't put him in D-tier. He's very very team dependent, but when he has that team where they're not completely out to lunch and playing around him, he's quite good at anchoring a position that is difficult to push into. I sort of get it, you're looking at these tanks mostly valuing a solo-carry potential and Ram is def not that. He's just hard to kill and can do a surprising amount of damage and damage mitigation if you cycle cooldowns well. From the survivability and anchoring a position perspective, I'd actually rate Ram higher than Rein. His ability to regen 200 armor on CD is big, Rein can't do that. His ability to project damage while shielding, another thing Rein cannot do.
Well, you gotta remember that Freedo GREATLY prefers 5v5 while completely forgiving blizzard for taking our game away. So think about the mental gymnastics he does while making these tier lists...
This fucking game has some serious matchmaking problems, since the season 10 update I feel like I can’t play the game, I usually go 5/6 losses in a row before winning and this is valid for any hero pull, I always try playing accordingly to the general tips of the high rank players but somehow my team is always at a disadvantage compared to the enemy. This game is becoming a joke to me, how many other are having the same awful experience? Not even the latest fucking patch to help with repetive losses did nothing for me. I’m very close to just uninstall the game and say goodbye to this trash forever, I’m not an experienced player by any means but this kind of gaming experience is awfull (I’m a high gold / mid plat level player)
Rein probably needs to go down at least a tier. He still has the same problems with getting outranged and poked down in the 5v5 format because teams are less tightly grouped. Sigma should go up one because the ult change was actually a pretty huge buff, and he just got free headshot DR for no trade off because he doesn't have armor. He's good in basically every situation. Mercy is probably C tier at best. Her healing is just so meh with the dps passive at 20%. Sure, she gets a lot of value from damage beam if the player she's pocketing is competent. In a lot of situations, it's more impactful to have a support with higher playmaking potential and personal damage. You spent more time talking about her weaknesses than her strengths. It really feels like she shouldn't be in B tier.

Reaper was never able to "freely" challenge the tanks (unless your referring to 6 years ago when he was meta for a week and then had been consistently hard/soft nerfed until today). He's always at risk because he's required to be within kissing distance to do any damage (which is optimal for all tanks since they either need to be up close to do damage or can easily escape his range). Wild how far people are willing to go just to say their heroes buffs were "justifiable."
This list completely changes for console. Rein is like 1 of the worst tanks, and Lifeweaver is annoying af! Widow & pharah is D tier, i mean, it's all out of wack!
Rein is still boring to play: his gameplay feels like he’s stuck in the past. I don’t know how he can be updated without buffs to make him to feel fun. His whole character design and gameplay is designed around his shield.
Imma be a real good doomfist is the best tank in the game. If u get guy who pressures and his supports and dps are not scary and get on the fight there ain’t no beating the shit. Tag him wit Baptist, pharah, Bastion/genji, an Mercy or Moria it’s a nasty combination
Ball changes do nothing but make him slightly more powerful in situations he was already viable. Once the counter swaps come out he’s toast, and he remains the easiest tank to counter in the game. Devs missed by not giving his shield some sort of cc counter play imo
I'd put Sojourn im S mostly cause she is just so conducive to the playstyle of the meta. At least I think she is. That and I still hate just how much damage she does in 1 clip while having her low cooldown slide.
This season just feels bad in general. Most of my mid-tier games have one team getting rolled, and the only fun games are when that team isn't mine. Even the "fair"/even games don't feel fun. Is it just me?
6v6 will come back. Just give it a few more seasons. Unfortunately we will have to wait a bit longer. Tank in 5v5 cannot be balanced and is no fun at all to play or play against.

One of the small buffs I want is for Pharah to use 2-3% less fuel because it is definitely a lot harder to maintain fuel and you really really have to use cover. Why be a Pharah hater when you can literally hard counter her and slap her around. Unless no offense your just some person that only plays qp.

@@Demetri25honestly ball would be good then, assuming you keep his primary fire as a peashooter then he cant really kill much but he can definitely bait out cooldowns better and with cc immunity on fireball he'd have a way of actually wasting resources that didnt require him nearly dying every time any amount of cc touches him.
Mines would still be a situational ult at best so honestly ball would be balanced.

I’m mostly playing rein and ball and winning games, i create so much space by feeding and creating chaos in the back line, pin around corners for unexpected insta elims, got to be creative
Its honestly hilarious that despite the ball buffs hes still bad because he cant kill anything with his primary unless he has a dps go in with him, so all the buffs did was make him slightly better at being annoying but mines is still easy as hell to avoid, and if he tries to pick a support all of them except zen and mercy can out heal his damage. They accomplished nothing.
I’m winning 60 percent and climbing on ball, his stall is fantastic, mines a great over time win condition, somewhat map dependent but i win lots of games w less damage but by just hit and run and stall strats
Rein is clunky, thats the problem. He has only one cooldown that does tree things, cc, burst demage and mobilit, witch means that he feels held back. Lets use an exemple: theres an enemy tank capping+ a low helth dps, you have tree options, 1) charge the tank away to save the base, but get gunned down. 2) charge the dps killing It, but loses the cap and a lot of helth. 3) try dueling them and charge away if are losing, but if you flie you lose the cap. You had tree options because all options were in the same 6 seconds cooldown, but if charge were like defense matrix with that bar thing, the gameplay would be a lot more smooth, in that same exemple: you push the tank out the cap "stop" charge the dps and then escape.

To where Hanzo was meant to be a sniper, taking that away from him, they need to make his arrows do more damage the closer he is to his target. Like an actual bow would do.

Ramattra D and Reinhardt Top A. I've seen it all.
Actually Reinhardt dies even faster after the armor changes against mid to long range heroes. (Cassidy/Sojourn especially)
The biggest wins for Reinhardt are the 50% knockback resistance and the Orisa nerfs that allowed him to breath a little.
He still explodes the moment your shield drops and his weaknesses are all still there.
Is he in a better place? Sure he is more viable, but I would not put him past a B tier.

To clarify, in overwatch 1 armor was modified to mitigate a flat 30% of damage from beams because the 50% was broken and made beams almost useless on tanks. I’m not sure if they carried that over or not but that’s how it used to work.

Called someone a lazybones for counterpicking me on tank in qp. Guy goes "guess someone doesnt know how to play our game" ive played since the ow1 came out... Since then, i havent touched the game in 4 months its unplayable
QP is just sweaty these days. I was playing qp after not playing for a couple weeks and a teammate kept saying “Support Diff”. When we lost in Overtime in round 3 of control and he says “Nah report our supports because they have to be throwing”.

Great vid Freedo, I have mixed feelings about this patch and overall feel like playing tank has gotten harder in some ways, but that's probably because I mostly solo queue. Btw just some quick production notes! Try turning off your camera's autofocus (or reduce its sensitivity, if it will let you), that should keep it from going blurry/adjusting constantly. If you do turn it off, you'll have to focus it manually instead, so be aware of that. Also, the volume of your intro music and the volume of your mic are sooo different! People usually adjust their volume depending on how a video starts, so when you come in on mic and it's a way different level, it is not a good viewer experience! I'd just recommend you turn up the intro audio level a bit to match your average mic level. Anyways catch you on ladder sometime brother!
Dva should get a buff, boosters should do more knock back/ do some damage

Dont get me wrong he can definitely have good games in the right circumstances- however thats IF YOUR TEAM PLAYS AROUND THE REIN PICK. Rein is still held back by the fact that almost the whole team has to play with/around him.
If ur supports aren't committed to you like you're their full-time job AND the spouse they come home to every night, you're still just sitting in a corner AFK 75% of the time.
Rein has a good game when he's pretty much the only one getting heals/support on your team 90% of the time and ur dps are playing around that fact- either playing around your shield at the right time or popping off from long range/bodyguarding ur supports.

Ram def is not top imo. But I wouldn't put him in D-tier. He's very very team dependent, but when he has that team where they're not completely out to lunch and playing around him, he's quite good at anchoring a position that is difficult to push into.
I sort of get it, you're looking at these tanks mostly valuing a solo-carry potential and Ram is def not that. He's just hard to kill and can do a surprising amount of damage and damage mitigation if you cycle cooldowns well.
From the survivability and anchoring a position perspective, I'd actually rate Ram higher than Rein. His ability to regen 200 armor on CD is big, Rein can't do that. His ability to project damage while shielding, another thing Rein cannot do.
Well, you gotta remember that Freedo GREATLY prefers 5v5 while completely forgiving blizzard for taking our game away. So think about the mental gymnastics he does while making these tier lists...
This fucking game has some serious matchmaking problems, since the season 10 update I feel like I can’t play the game, I usually go 5/6 losses in a row before winning and this is valid for any hero pull, I always try playing accordingly to the general tips of the high rank players but somehow my team is always at a disadvantage compared to the enemy.

I’m very close to just uninstall the game and say goodbye to this trash forever, I’m not an experienced player by any means but this kind of gaming experience is awfull (I’m a high gold / mid plat level player)
Rein probably needs to go down at least a tier. He still has the same problems with getting outranged and poked down in the 5v5 format because teams are less tightly grouped.
Sigma should go up one because the ult change was actually a pretty huge buff, and he just got free headshot DR for no trade off because he doesn't have armor. He's good in basically every situation.
Mercy is probably C tier at best. Her healing is just so meh with the dps passive at 20%. Sure, she gets a lot of value from damage beam if the player she's pocketing is competent. In a lot of situations, it's more impactful to have a support with higher playmaking potential and personal damage. You spent more time talking about her weaknesses than her strengths. It really feels like she shouldn't be in B tier.
I think how Armor used to be in OW1, beams did 30% less damage to armor, so I wonder if they set Armor's dmg reduction against beams to 30%.

Reaper was never able to "freely" challenge the tanks (unless your referring to 6 years ago when he was meta for a week and then had been consistently hard/soft nerfed until today). He's always at risk because he's required to be within kissing distance to do any damage (which is optimal for all tanks since they either need to be up close to do damage or can easily escape his range).
Wild how far people are willing to go just to say their heroes buffs were "justifiable."

Rein is still boring to play: his gameplay feels like he’s stuck in the past. I don’t know how he can be updated without buffs to make him to feel fun. His whole character design and gameplay is designed around his shield.
Imma be a real good doomfist is the best tank in the game. If u get guy who pressures and his supports and dps are not scary and get on the fight there ain’t no beating the shit. Tag him wit Baptist, pharah, Bastion/genji, an Mercy or Moria it’s a nasty combination
Ball changes do nothing but make him slightly more powerful in situations he was already viable. Once the counter swaps come out he’s toast, and he remains the easiest tank to counter in the game.

I'd put Sojourn im S mostly cause she is just so conducive to the playstyle of the meta. At least I think she is. That and I still hate just how much damage she does in 1 clip while having her low cooldown slide.
This season just feels bad in general. Most of my mid-tier games have one team getting rolled, and the only fun games are when that team isn't mine. Even the "fair"/even games don't feel fun.

6v6 will come back. Just give it a few more seasons. Unfortunately we will have to wait a bit longer. Tank in 5v5 cannot be balanced and is no fun at all to play or play against.
