- Three hero shooters are coming out to compete for the Hero Shooter throne, Sony's Concord, Valve's Deadlock and Netease with Marvel Rivals. Each game, including Overwatch 2 set to occupy a different flavor of the hero shooter genre. Which game do you think will be the best hero shooter of them all?

Definitely, Marvel Rivals, from what I've seen and heard the beta on PC, was awesome. I can't wait for console beta
Marvel rivals has the potential to be the most popular. But nothing will ever beat the polish that overwatch has. and nothing will ever beat overwatch map designs. I don’t see valve managing to make a great game either, but they know how to make popular games as proven by CS.
Star Wars: Battle Front 2, the 00's version on the original X-Box. TF2 takes silver.
OW3 or whatever Papa Jeff has been working on...
I doubt there is a "best" game out of them, they are quite different, and I see myself playing them all.
Rivals is more of a casual ability-first shooter.
Concord seems to be a more serious gun-first shooter
Deadlock is barely a shooter, I would call it a 3rd person MOBA, but it has its place for sure.

Looking at these other games, I'm reminded how much I appreciate having the other team highlighted in red.
Not for me. My gameplay vastly improved when I finally was able to make the enemy lime green and my team dark purple. Too many things lighting up on the screen, it was distracting. Now I can focus on the enemies because I can clearly see them and those that don't stand out, I know to be my teammates.
I had around 70 hours in the marvel rivals beta. Spotting the enemy team was never an issue.

Marvel Rivals is the only game here thats truly an Overwatch competitor. None of the other games listed are like Overwatch.

The only thing that was a real issue was Hela... In an Alpha, that he is comparing to OW1 release. I'm going to have a blast playing Magik, Storm, Luna, etc. in Rivals. Heck, even tanks because they are ACTUALLY FUN and the role isn't insufferable. They're even killable too.
The dude even said take the destructable environment further and let the entire turrain get wrecked by players so there is no competitive element to the game whatsoever, as if by contrast OW was taking itself seriously or had decent hero balance. Sojourn is still untouched. Heroes like hanzo and mei are still gutted with no reworks after a pushed health buff to tons of heroes. What is super competitive about get out of jail free abilities like lamp, suzu, etc?
Listen, I still love ow and will love it even during its fall point, but Marvel rivals! Is awesome!!!

Why 2k doesn't resurrect "BattleBorn", I don't know. I'm surprised you didn't mention "Paladins", as an existing competition.
Battleborn didn't play like Overwatch, very surprised people ever considered them as competition. Yeah they have unique characters with ability based game play, but the game had a fundamentally different way of play in that it was more like a first person MOBA game (if I remember correctly). Paladins was just OW but way worse, but it was F2P, but then OW went F2P so they are more similar now in that respect.

@@thatcactus5451 True, many people say that Overwatch is like an FPS moba game but really, Battleborne, Gigantic, and Paladins are more FPS moba than Overwatch is. yes OW can feel like an FPS moba sometimes, but it depends on the meta, really it's not like that in OW all the time.
Yes Paladins in Overwatch is a lot similar now with F2P scheme and the DPS passive, but Paladins still feels more like FPS moba. Another reason why OW is more popular than Paladins, Gigantic, and Battleborn is that OW is leaning towards, at least most of the time, the FPS side and FPS games are just way more popular right now. Most would rather play an FPS shooter that a 3rd person shooter and most would rather play a shooter game focused mostly on shooter sensibilities and mechanics rather than moba's.
I predict that Marvel Rivals, by comparison will show everyone how well made and designed Overwatch actually is

Destiny doesn't have hero kits like Overwatch or Concord. Destiny only has 3 classes with lots of different things to pick between in each class. Overwatch and Concord has each hero locked into their own kit. That's what hero shooter means
Overwatch is a team based hero shooter. That's all it is. You can compare it closely to every other hero shooter
For marvel rivals I got my old tank buddy who dropped OW back to play as Venom for my Spider-Man. That alone is enough for Marvel Rivals to exist for me.

As someone who's been a WoW player for 18 years let me tell you this: there were so many games that claimed to be the "WoW Killer" but nothing came even close. If anything kills Overwatch, it's Overwatch itself.
Nostalgia and the continued hope Overwatch will return to its roots are the only things that are keeping it alive, in my opinion. I've certainly moved on, as I have accepted the Overwatch world as it appears to be.
Deadlock won't kill Overwatch. Deadlock is a MOBA with shooter elements, not a shooter with MOBA elements.
Deadlock looks more like its leaninging into the battleborn crowd.
Marvel rivals seems more like overwatch style of game.
Concord seems more like ow2 style of play.

9:30 I disagree about just being a visual. When I play the close beta we needed a heavy character to destroy some walls to open up flanking routes it was a necessary.

None of these will really impact the majority of the OW playerbase, because the majority of OW players are casual enjoyers of the atmosphere of OW. Blizzard did such a spectacular job creating the OW world and characters, I do not believe any competitor can match it.

Maybe it's all the horrible movies or the ubiquity of Marvel content in general. It's almost as if, by default, nothing Marvel can really be novel.

Trust me with how bad overwatches march maker is with blizzard now admitting they are carrying bad players up the ladder and the dps passive and hitbox buff this game is already dead me and 3 of my friends have quit just this week sick of getting team mates who are potato just because the match maker wants us to carry them.
Most people who watch this video won’t remember that everyone joining OW is bronze 5. The learning curve is suprisingly steep. Some of these news games will pick up players because everyone is new and they don’t have the baggage of OW1. I agree competition is good. So I don’t think it matters which ones win or lose.
Valves deadlock is just Paragon….why are people forgetting that just came out?
Paragon is gone, but Predecessor is the remake with 3 original hero’s added that’s currently in open beta. Highly recommended checking it out!

Gigantic would been a competitor if they hadn't messed up the servers. While paying $20 and you get everything for free is good in my opinion free to play would benefit it. Plus the lack of updates or events is killing the drive for alot of people.
I honestly hope Marvel Rivals does well and can really fill that void that was left from when Overwatch 2 ruined Overwatch. I'll take the insanity to 2016 Overwatch over this hell that is Overwatch 2.
As much as I would love a game that can compete with OW, I think it’ll be quite a difficult task to make a game that can match the fluid, high octane gameplay and satisfying moments that overwatch has. The game is great. It’s the players that piss me off.

I have to say even as a masters rank Overwatch player I think I preffered when it was more casual. I liked the 4 roles, junkrat self damage as a junk player, everyone being really defined and for fun. I love competitive too but prefer intresic fun above all else
Just by browsing through your channel video list I can tell hype for OW2 crash and burned after the Story/PvE announcement. Let's be honest, OW2 was doomed on the onset, Bobby squeezed every single cash cow dry and left them to die under modern gaming's harsh desert sun. Any reasonable time or resources given to the OW2 team is going to buyback that lost trust.

Honestly none of those will "kill" Overwatch (at least not directly), almost like saying a new battle royale will "kill" Overwatch just because it has abilities and is a shooting game. They're really different from OW2 in gameplay, "rules", mechanics, feel, artwork, size/scale, etc. Same way as Apex Legends and Valorant got the attention of some players, they're not "killers", games that resemble each other and have good traits for people who already enjoy OW2.
Yes, a portion of the playerbase will like them and migrate, but not because they're "the same game, but better", but rather for the same reason TFT takes a portion of LOL's playerbase, just being an interesting game with similar qualities and a refreshing look at some concepts.
Watching this lets you know Freedo did not play Marvel Rivalz Closed ALPHA Test. One map actually has parts where once you destroy it it remains that way forever destroyed but for the Alpha since it only had 3 maps Tokyo 2099 is the only one that had this feature. Positioning is extremely important as well especially with the amount of verticality. Punisher or Hela on a high angle is brutal when no one contests them. Positioning yourself as Rocket to ensure you maximize your healing output is critical as well. There is more to the game then people think but its also fun which OW at the moment is lacking.
Playing OW is boring and frustrating now after playing the CAT for Rivals. Sure the balance was crap but it was an ALPHA test and I expected there to be many quirks and hiccups but for an Alpha it was surprisingly smooth sailing for the most part which attributed to it being fun. I personally am very excited to play again during the CBT. Its been awhile since I've been this hyped for a multiplayer game, in fact its been since the OW closed beta in 2015 that I've been this excited for one!

Freedo why are your video titles so fucking far off the mark??? 5 v 5 is pretty shit, because one team might just smash the other if they have any sort of coordination. I want to see 20 v 20 because we aren't going to see teams of 20 being coordinated.. I want to try overwatch conquest. like the battlefield gamemode I used to play back in the day. I think that would be fun and unique, maybe complete madness, but how will we know till we try.
team mates are complete arseholes 99% of the time in OW. I don't want to speak to them. it makes me play worse and makes the experience worse. I just want variation when I play this game. it has lost that random element I found enjoyable when the game first came out.

you come across really big headed when it comes to this game, calling people flat earthers, acting like you are billy big bollocks with this game, then I noticed you were bloody plat a few weeks ago! and that's with your fancy set up and talking to team mates and trying be your coordinated yank self.
I think the valve shooter could do well. Its valve, i don't see them putting out an unpolished product (artifact failed cause of their economy system, not gameplay).
Rivals Gameplay looks ok, but the characters' animations seem really stiff compared to how detailed their models/designs are.
Rivals will probably limp along for a few months, maybe a year at most. Marvel has a really successful mobile-TCG game right now, DC tried to rush out a competitor for MarvelSnap and the DC game went belly up and shutdown after about 3 months. These external IP games have a huge extra cost, the game has to generate enough money for the Developers AAAND to pay off the IP license. Despite the fatigue, Marvel IP is probably one of the most expensive IPs right now. Its a lead weight that will incentivize the developers to cut corners and milk whales to the max.
I love when people defensively bring up player numbers as if gamers haven't been conditioned to accept low-effort slop for years. You know what else has been popular for years? Activision coming out with carbon copies of CoD every year. Popularity isn't proportional to the quality of a game. It's influenced by industry-wide trends and conditions.
It's the laziest defense possible, and you're just doing Blizzard's PR for free.
Only Marvel Rivals is in the "same" space.
Concord will capture Destiny PvP fans(literally bungie devs with Destiny feeling guns and abilities), and Deadlock feels more like a Moba than hero shooter, MAYBE if theres other gamemmodes in Deadlock that remove the 4 lanes, then maybe it could feel more like OW, but for now it's fun just the way it is.
Marvel Rivals is super fun. I played the alpha and had a great time. The only issue I had, which was the exact same issue from OW1, was open queue. If I pick Hella for example cause i’ve played tank and support all night and want to finally play dps, I usually had to switch, because my stupid teammates all picked dps after me. So we either all run dps and just lose horribly and no one gets to have fun, or someone has to bite the bullet and switch to tank/support. It becomes a game of chicken. The same bs happened in OW1 and in competitive it was a mess. Nothing like someone stealing dps, forcing you to play tank/support, yet they can’t hit a single shot lol.
i dont think its fair to picture marvel rivals as unbalanced, ow2 creators are looking forward to this game AND ITS ONLY ALPHA. Ofc there are gonna be imbalances bc its in alpha, but its like the imbalances u described as " broken ". some creators have gone ahead and said they would switch content to marvel rivals instead of ow2...
Ow at its core is fun, but everything that surrounds it is shit, and honestly the core game isn't enough to keep me playing the game. The games Shit management, toxic community, lack of energy, lack of fun content, questionable balancing, the constant money grubbing, what's the point of playing ow? Like do people really not care that they only have 2 comp rewards and 1 of them is 8 years old. This game I feel like is way over hyped and is not looked at for what it is. A fiasco. This game could've been something great but instead it's this, over charging for skins, no more pve just focusing on esports, which is probably gonna flop again, and just counter picking to win. I'm so tired of this game, and when marvel rivals comes out I'm fairly certain I'm gonna delete ow, theres no point to keep playing it.. you guys can keep this shit game fr
I don't think kill would be the right word for it. But give a run for it's money these games will do and besides competition is always good. Had it not been for Xbox Live or Xbox Game pass Sony would be losing out with PS+ and its other services to compete. It helps the industry go back and makes things fresh or innovate further. That is my hope for Blizzard and Overwatch 2 that if the other games start implementing new things and exciting ways to jump in every day or every season that take players away from OW2 if that makes Blizzard re-think and further develop for the game and innovate I am all for it. Otherwise if they let the competition run over them then yes I would agree it will kill the game in time but I don't see that as possibility right yet.

I think putting Marvel Rivals in the same spot as OG Overwatch is taking away from its identity; rivals seems to be carving out its own piece of the pie and I say "have at it".
Hero shooters be damned, I just want to play as a superhero (Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk), these characters I've been admiring since I was a kid.
Battleborn, in my opinion, was a great balance of MOBA and FPS. I had a blast playing and have not had the same feeling or experience of wanting to play it everyday with other games since. OW was fun and I did really enjoy it for a decent period of time. But OW2, idk I just cannot get the same feeling for some reason, but I definitely preferred the MOBA level up system in Battleborn over, 'here are you abilities'. If OW moved more in that direction, which they won't, then I may get back into it. I honestly am in love with OW characters and their design which keeps me interested enough to pay attention to updates, but the lack of story or creativity in what a player can do with the character just isn't there for me. I am interested to check out both Concord and Rivals, hopefully one of them will entice some sort of feeling I had with Battleborn. It is a shame that they put no marketing into it and it just died after one "season" due to people hate bashing it because of OW.

You did well you did a great job making Marvel Rivals look bad aginst overwatch, Yes, Marvel Rivals may not be perfect, but it has potential, not like Overwatch, which needs to stupid things like the hitbox changes to bring back some of the old players for a little bit of time, so stop yapping about the game and get ready. 5:06 Valve does not strike out with their games. The only example of that is Artifact which was still a damn good game, just not what the audience wanted, which is maybe what you're eluding to here. But every valve game ever released has been an amazing game at its fundamentals, so to say "Valve is the type of company that strikes out hard with their games" is very over exaggerated. Again that was only Artifact. This only applies to their 'ideas', like you were talking about. Perhaps because their a long time game dev studio and have only recently started to develop other projects(recently in the grand scheme).

As a huge Dota fan Deadlock has my attention, will definitely be playing. Marvel Rivals looks fun, I could see myself investing time into it but I don't think it will be competitively viable. Concord just looks ass, the art style is terrible and the gameplay looks stiff and janky compared to OW.

Deadlock: Very successful
Marvel Rivals: Solid community with potential to beat overwatch in popularity. But it's hard to say cause so much depends on how they handle the game and player feedback.
imho, gameplay is important but what is most important is how the developers respond to the community. This is where OW failed. OW and OWL would probably be in a very different spot if when issues arouse Blizzard actually acted instead of just insulting the players/viewers.
I do not see OW1 as any less of a shooter than OW2, it was great when it came out and I think that everyone who loved it still remembers the game it was meant to be. That's why we all still play it If we haven't left yet. I don't know about the other games, but i played Marvel Rivals and I loved it. It did feel like OW1. I don't see that as being less of an fps experience either. The potential to break key environments is wonderful. It means that the game isn't hard gated by chokes and characters can't just camp high ground the whole game, like on Dorado. The cathedral like spaces where fights take place are wonderful because they have the potential to allow teams to spread out more if the right meta is encouraging to that positioning. That's what sucked about the trash balance of OW1 after they ruined it. It encouraged stacking of teams and aoe healing/sustain for days and the opposite of risky plays since they were more easily punished. super enclosed environments are part of that issue. I’m not defending OW but I will say this, I play it a lot and have tried many other games with high hopes. But I always find my self getting bored with them. OW feels like the one that I keep coming back to and while Yes I get annoyed with some decisions the game has made I still find my self having fun with it. I’ll never be a high level player and that’s fine with me I’ve been around since OW1. But it’s a game I like to get on play for 2-3 hours and go play something else.
They all seem terrible. Rivals is the only one I’d try, but without the original actors voicing them, it would ruin the fantasy of it for me.
Overwatch 2 is still gonna be better then all these games shown. But I do believe Concord will definitely have a fan base as well as Marvel Rivals which I feel is gonna be a good one. Deadlock just looks a little gimmicky like dude said on video and a little lack of funding for the game in my opinion. But Hey were talking about competition right?

Finally, someone talking about Deadlick that has at least a basic understanding of what the game is trying to do. Its not like valorant, its not like TF2, It's a MOBA hero shooter, with emphasis on the MOBA part.

Marvel Rivals looks decent and it's a very well-known existing IP which is advantageous. I think Concord is DoA and the Valve one is always guna be 50/50.
Why does a game have to kill another game. Why cant the same genre of games co-exist so theres variety for everyone and everyone can be happy. I still plan on playing Overwatch 2 when Marvel Rivals comes out and i could honestly care less about Concorde. Its healthy for games and fans to have a steady competition in the hero shooter.

No game will kill overwatch like no game killed destiny, my guy is delusional but what can u expect for a guy that thinks that 5vs5 is better than 6vs6? The only good thing is that we gonna get some solid competition after all these years and that can only be a good thing for us, the players.
Need to test this games to know if they are good. I just wish that Battleborn can come back with this rice of hero shooters. The pvp was a bit to much of a MOBA. But the PvE was really good.
I always liked MOBAs. League and Dota were always too long. Pokémon unite I hate the end game comeback mechanics. So deadlock looks like it would be a cool mash up of shooter and moba.
Rivals does have a lot of visual clutter. I really hope they fix the choppy animations and large health bars. If Rivals ends up feeling as good as ow2 does on console controllers with good netcode I might drop Ow completely.
I don't any of those will make me quit Overwatch, but I certainly want to play Marvel Rivals on the side. I enjoyed it in the alpha but I think it is still to different to Overwatch to be just a better version of a game I love.
Deadlock looks more like a game called Natural Selection 2, Unreal Tournament 2004's onslaught mode, or the design of Command and Conquer: Renegade
The game is just completely ruined since season 9 and it was a mess before that too, ive been coping that theyd fix the game since they released brig originally and im sick of it, hopefully valve cooks up something

About the deadlock leaks. The game is still in alpha, not beta if I'm not mistaken. Basically not ready for public test yet but somehow already got leaked.
The only one I see threathening to OW is Rjvals, but still I wasn't impressed. Loved the art style, but the sound nd and gameplay need a lot of work.
I think first person gameplay is pretty high on the list of requirements for the fan base. Marvel Rivals reminds me of smite more than it does overwatch personally. Concord has certainly peaked my interest the most of the 3.
Third-person view is a non-starter, and 2 of the 3 look like games from 1997 back when they didn't invent colors yet.

Sure they could kill OW but they won’t let’s be real. Has nothing to do with how good the game is. OW isn’t getting new players any time soon and the current ones aren’t in any rush to leave.
