    Here’s a tip for you for future models when you’re building star war kits that are this small and you want them to look as realistic as possible I suggest using water base very flat paint , I use testors model masters Flat acrylic , then I thin it with water when the paint dries it leaves absolutely no brush marks , no raised edges , it dries absolutely flat while hiding none of the details of the model. Not only that but you can also apply multiple coats and layers without increasing the thickness of the paint which is perfect for weathering and if you happen to make a mistake there’s no need to do any sanding you simply correct it

    Hi, Ken! Thanks for your tutorial, have already watched both this and the weathering video for the 1:350 Falcon dozens of times. I've just ordered the "Full" ANH kit from Age of Plastic on Shapeways (and a bunch of electronics from EvanDesigns) and was wondering if you'd ever consider doing a more comprehensive series on the more complex version of this build?

    I'm a few videos late to make this comment, but I like your parody intro. It reminds me of this one infomercial for a contraption that was supposed to make it easier to strain spaghetti, so they had the lady trying to pour spaghetti into a regular colander and it sloshing into the sink. "Our device will turn you into an idiot when it comes to doing something you've done all your life!" Another funny one was for these shelves that you could fit into a corner of your room by way of little razor blades that pierced your wall. They had a light on the bottom. They said, "Beware of shelves that don't light up!" They were the same company selling unlighted shelves the year before! LOL. Anyway, great job with these tutorials!

    Great work on that model, I'm working on a similar one(the three landing gear version) and it occurred to me that, for the diorama, you could try to place it in the docking bay of the cloud city of episode V, because the bottom part of your model has five landing gear, it's just a suggestion , I'm sure you will do a great job, greetings from México!!

    I just bought this kit and figured lighting it would be impossible!
    I find the lighting intimidating. I don't know how to figure out how much battery is needed for how many LEDs and if resisters are needed. Ugh.

    • @kenspriggs5687
      @kenspriggs5687  5 років тому +2

      That's why I use prewired Leds from Evan Designs. You can choose what voltage you want and they add the resistors for you. I prefer to use the 3v lights with AA batteries. You can connect 20 or 30 SMDs to one battery holder of 2 AA batteries. Check them out, they have a lot of lighting options!

    Hey ken, Outstanding job! How did you put on the clear red,green,blue tamiya paint on? And did you paint the cockpit wall black on both sides, and did you drill the holes or were they pre-drilled. I am working on a 1/350 medical frigate ( nebulon B ) and I’m planning to add this 1/350 falcon to it. As I have the lights for the frigate done I need to add light to my falcon. I have the 3D printed parts and the lights as well. Thanks in advance and once again! great job 👍

    • @kenspriggs5687
      @kenspriggs5687  5 років тому

      Thank you Paul! I didn't paint the back so light could shine through. The white light strips are already open on the part as well as the round opening to the upper left. After gluing the smd on the back I masked it with white then black paint to channel the light forward. I nicked off some of the paint on the controls and dabbed tiny bits of the clear Tamiya colors on it to give the impression of controls.

      @@kenspriggs5687 Hey Ken, Thanks for the reply, I see now that you you bought the "age of plastic" 3D printed parts and I bought the "308bits" parts for the falcon. his cockpit back wall is a little different as the wall has no pre-made holes. a little more challenging of course, but my question is where and how did you apply the tiny clear tamiya colors? to get that light effect. which to me looks insane! not too bright, not too dim but just right. I have been modeling for 25 years, mainly star wars stuff but have been since introduced to lighting in the past 5 years. and have taken my models to a whole new level. I buy quite a bit of stuff from Evans Models lighting. but for this project I am doing I need the Falcon lit and to be attached to the Medical Frigate from ESB. which I have covered and planned. I do a lot of lighting, fiber optics, LED strips, but nothing this small! if you would like to see some of my work and my current project please take a look at Modeller Magic website - link ( www.modelermagic.com/?p=105630 ) just copy and paste. and another one. ( www.modelermagic.com/?p=105794 ) I do not have a channel on youtube, I am some what a CLOSET modeller. I don't show my stuff too often. my wife enjoys my enthusiasm for the craft, and my kids like my work especially my son , but I am the only one for a passion of modelling, keeps me out of the bars! but I wouldn't say it's cheaper.LOL
      your work is amazing and soo finely detailed! I could only wish I had the talent you have as an artist! thats why I love this hobby. we all share and learn from each other. thanks again and keep up the outstanding work you show.

    • @kenspriggs5687
      @kenspriggs5687  5 років тому

      Paul D because it's such a tiny part with the led so bright on the back, the black paint still had a lot of light leaking through, especially through the horizontal slots that the part had. I used a very thin piece of wire to lightly dab different Tamiya clear colors onto some spots to give the impression of a varied panel. I did the same on the gunner station.
