Vinnie Vincent recorded 2 albums with KISS, then formed Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Robert Fleischman sang on this song from the 1st VVI album & the whole album. Mark Slaughter sang on the 2nd VVI album and then he and bassist Dana Strum formed Slaughter. Strum also played bass with Vince Neil of Motley Crue on Vince's solo album. The drummer Bobby Rock played drums in Nitro. Robert Fleischman didn't sing on any Journey albums. He co-wrote some songs and recorded 1 song with them that appears on their boxset Time.

I wouldn't say they were popular but they did have some play on MTV with their singles "That Time of Year" and Love Kills". So they were somewhat known, probably more because Vinnie Vincent was in KISS, so there was some notoriety for Vinnie being in KISS.

Vincent Cusano - who’s name was altered to Vinnie Vincent when he joined KISS formally in 1982 (to replace Ace Frehley) for their Creatures of the Night album’s tour (on which he only played a couple songs - War Machine I believe was one) for which KISS was still wearing makeup and full regalia (Vinnie wore an Egyptian Ankh on his face designed by Paul Stanley).
Right after Creatures, Kiss decided to take off their makeup for their next album, Lick It Up, in order to garner attention and re-invent themselves.
On Lick It Up Vincent co-wrote on all but virtually one or two songs. And many would argue Lick It Up was one of KISS’ strongest offerings with songs like Exciter, A Million to One and the title track which wasn’t my fave but still gets airplay today and remains in the KISS set list.
Notably, as quirky and many would say arrogant and unethical as Vinnie was to Kiss, nobody denies his song writing skills. He even came back to contribute to KISS’ 1992 platinum album, Revenge, co-writing bad ass tunes like Unholy.
As of today though, Vinnie seems a broken person, sadly. But he held KISS together at a time of their weakness (Creatures tour was played to half empty arenas) that might’ve otherwise gone even more badly.
As far as I’m concerned, the two VV Invasion albums rocked. This was my least fave. Ashes to Ashes on VV II was awesome.
If you want to react to a VV song from Kiss, consider Not For The Innocent. Great song and probably about as much “freedom” to jam on an album KISS ever gave to Vinnie, who - for obvious reasons - had to be kept on a tight leash with his “shredding like you’re on cocaine” solos.

They made two albums. This was the first singer. The second album featured Mark Slaughter. Dana Strum from Slaughter was the bassist for both albums. Vinnie was a phenomenal player but had real issues with other band members. Personality conflicts. He pretty much left the music business. He was actually in Kiss for a short period as well. Check out the song Burning Bridges from Slaughter. The song was written about Vinnie. Vinnie is the guitarist. Check out Ashes to ashes, which features Mark Slaughter on vocals for Vinnie.

However, Steve Perry was the lead singer on Infinity and Gregg Rolie still sang too. Fleischman did have some writing credits and only sings on 1 song and it's on their boxset Time.

Mark Slaughter (The singer) hated being in this band. He hated Vinny Vincent (the lead guitarist). Vincent got kicked out of Kiss and had trouble maintaining his own solo career. Slaughter and Dana Strum (Bass) formed the band, Slaughter. This is a really fun album. The song "Love Kills" off this album was used in the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988). I don't think Vinny Vincent Invasion was extremely popular, but I hung out with guys who also liked the band.

Vinnie Vincent got his big break for replacing Ace Frehley in Kiss in the early 80's. Gene and Paul of Kiss didn't really care for him and his over the top playing so after two albums they let him go. The bass player here is Dana Strum in the late 70's early 80's he was known in LA as he had played with a few bands in LA, he got an audition for Ozzy's new solo band Blizzard of Oz, which he was hired but for some reason left but stayed close friends with Ozzy. He got Ozzy to audition Randy Rhoads and He also got Ozzy to audition Randy's replacement Jake E. Lee. in those days Dana was more of a talent scout for bigger bands. Paul Stanley of Kiss reached out to Ozzy when they were looking for a replacement for Vinnie, asking how Ozzy found Randy and Jake, Ozzy gave Paul Dana's info. Dana at the time was wanting a band and wanted a good guitarist knowing Vinnie was no longer with Kiss reached out to Vinnie to start a band, then he got Bobby Rock the drummer a recent graduate from Berklee school of music in Boston who had come out to LA looking for work. (He later went on to play with a lot of bands including the TWINS band Nelson, and do studio work as well). This singer here on the album was let go due to contract disputes, they got Mark Slaughter to replace him. After the second album, the band was released from their label, Dana and Mark moved on and formed the band Slaughter and the rest is history.. Vinnie became a bit of a recluse, Bobby went on to play for Nitro, Nelson, Lita Ford etc wrote a bunch of books. That's about this band in a nutshell.

Vinnie Vincent, the lead guitarist, easily could have been among the guitar greats but sadly his ego destroyed any and all human interaction bandwise that he ever attempted. Gene Simmons of Kiss once said that if he had to choose between a technical player (Bruce Kulick) that played with is mind and fingers always perfectly where they should be and one that played with his emotion and his dick (Vinnie Vincent) that didn't necessarily care where his fingers were supposed to as long as they were where they needed to be to rock, he would choose Vinnie every single time

The first VVI album was a non-stop shred fest by Vinnie, this isn't the best song on the album. The second album probably had better songs and had Mark Slaughter, but sometimes you just want to hear insane guitar solos. Well, maybe Mark would disagree. "So you wanna do another solo, huh? Well not here, pal."

Vinny Vincent on V guitar 🎸🎸🎸

  • @invasionofyourprivacyl.a5445

My opinion: I've never liked the chorus and the solo. And VVI as a whole, was never a thing for me. The band wasn't bad, they did have moderate success from their album and mtv and also great success on touring. It's just that the songs were kind of a little bit off to me except for 'that time of year' and 'love kills'. But other than that their songs were terrible to me except for like 'no substitute' that has great potential on being a hit for them but it turns out ugly due to the solo and other stuffs in the song. Vinnie was a great guitar player but I have to say that his solos on most of the time were just making it loud and shredding it like crazy. Nothing interesting.
