This is completely in alignment with Jesus' second commandment-Love your neighbor as yourself...He didn't say love your neighbor better than yourself.

It’s hard to be generous with yourself. It’s easier to be generous with others. I’ll worn on that.

Thank you for presenting such a simple yet impactful sign of JOY, Jesus, others than yourself.

There are so many different ways to look at being generous with oneself. For me, being a stay-at-home parent, I have to be generous with myself by telling myself it is okay that I am not in the workforce.

I have an unexpected day off today because my supervisor wasn’t going to be at work in the afternoon. Going to make up for it tomorrow, but now, I have to do something for myself. My head completely blanks out at this type of indulgence. Although, today is the day of my baptism 25 years ago now.

As a recent caregiver to my husband, who died from ALS, I knew the importance of taking care of myself in order to better care for him. Problem was, the guilt caregivers feel in these situations. COVID reduced those opportunities dramatically. However I found that a quiet cup of coffee or an extra walk were often enough to recharge me. Moving forward, I am looking forward to ways to be generous with myself while still being generous with family, friends, and community.

It’s important to take good care of ourselves. I find that I will let my needs slip away from my conscious mind. I always feel better when I have given myself a treat - I feel so special when I gift myself. I have always cared for my children and husband and they appreciate it. I appreciate when I have a chance for self-care. Thank you❤️

I have always been taught to give of myself. I was a special education teacher, mother, wife, volunteer for several nonprofits, active at my church, etc. Even when sitting and watching TV in the evening, I’m knitting hats for at risk children. I always considered Friday morning with my friends at coffee as rewarding myself for an accomplished week!
A week ago I had a surgical procedure to manipulate my shoulder out of its frozen state. This has required physical therapy 3X a week and two hours a day (30 minute increments 4x a day) at home. I KNOW this is necessary for my shoulder to get back to normal, but when I look at the other tasks not getting done, I feel guilty! Thanks for reminding me that’s it’s okay to take care of myself.

Generosity towards ourselves is very important. Listening to these teachings, taking a time to reflect on them, and to put them in practice as much as we can, is a form of generosity towards our hearts and souls.

Thank you, Matthew. Obviously, I don't want to be selfish and stingy as much as possible, but it truly is important to be generous to myself before I am generous to others. I feel validation for putting time for myself. See you next time. Have a great day. God Bless. - Juls

"Generosity is not something you do, it's who you are." Such a simple concept, yet at the same time so very profound and brilliant.

I think that when we are generous and kind to ourselves, we are more able to pass that love and generocity to others as well. Thank you for reminding me to love myself. :)

That was a powerful message for me, Matthew! For so many years, I have placed my family's needs and in some cases, the needs of others before my own. I can easily purchase items for others, but I cannot seem to be able to freely spend money on myself. Thank you for "giving me the permission" to fulfill some of my needs, too. Please continue to guide my actions, Lord.
