    Most underrated N-ext product in my opinion. I include D-thatch in my weekly rotating N-ext applications. Microbial activity = increased earthworm activity = healthy lawn.

    Hello, I have not done anything with my lawn for over 30 years. I am just learning about aeration and dethatching. My lawn is a combination of grass and what is described as "moss like". The ground is very hard and compact. Should I aerate it first to at least get some break though circulation in the dirt? Other suggestions welcome as I have zero experience with gardening. Thank you.

One question on D-Thatch, it sounds like you spray it on during the heat of the day, then water it in later in the afternoon/early evening when temps start to cool off. Did I follow that correctly? Hey Paul, I was curious how well D-Thatch will do with Poa Annua once it dies off in the summer heat? I started over last fall with GCI’s TTTF and the mesotrione that I laid down didn’t keep the Poa away with my multiple applications. Hoping that D-Thatch would be a good option to chew through and get rid of the upcoming brown/dead spots in the yard. Thanks!

    Question about watering requirements BEFORE applying D-Thatch. We are just coming out of a heat wave in north Alabama (transition zone). Because it's been so hot and dry, with no rain in over a week, would it be better to pre-water my lawn beforehand to ensure it works it's way down thru the soil layer? I'm using an ortho dial sprayer, so am good on watering as I apply and afterwards.
    Technically, it's really just all dead grass. Using the D-thatch as a last step after complete burndown with glyphosate (poa trivialis and bentgrass issue) and prior to aeration and seeding TTTF this Fall in treed backyard. Thanks for any input, Paul.

    • @NExtDIYLawn
      @NExtDIYLawn  5 років тому +1

    Hey Paul! I’m planning to overseed this September so I wanted to apply D-thatch and Humic Acid anytime soon. But our high temps here in Michigan doesn’t go above 85 anymore especially for the next few weeks, is it still effective to put this down with high temps under 85? • @Methodical2
      @Methodical2 5 років тому +2

      Just for future use. Dethatching and seeding is always better than aerating and seeding. Dethatching removes all that dead crap that keeps your seeds from making good soil contact; it exposes the soil way better than aerating. Also you dont have those 1-2" holes where the seeds go to die. Seeds need to be about 1/4" below the soil or in good contact with soil at the very least. Aerating and seeding is the easiest of the 2 procedures and why lawn companies push it for quick and easy money. Dethatching requires more work, but the results are far superior. This I say from actual experience.

  • @buz116
    @buz116 5 років тому +1

    Will Dethatch break down other organic materials such as mulberries that come off a tree within the lawn. Thanks bro! Keep it up.

    • @NExtDIYLawn
      @NExtDIYLawn  5 років тому

      To some degree, yes. Those things are full of sugar already, so once they expel their own sugar, D-Thatch can break down whatever is left...if the birds do not get it first. - Castleberry

    Can this be used as an alternative to detaching mechanically?

    • @NExtDIYLawn
      @NExtDIYLawn  3 роки тому +1

      It can, however the biggest difference between the two is that D-Thatch turns the thatch into digestible material for the soil microbes, while mechanical thatch removal removes it all together. Just make sure to use D-Thatch in higher air temperatures for it to be most effective.

      @@andrewsanders1711 Yeah i watched the video Andrew and he said later in the day he needed to water deeply as the grass was burning up. D-Thatch heats up the ground along with dropping in enzymes to chew up the thatch. My question was related to will my grass do the same in extreme heat and strong sunshine. Just because micro biology and enzymes go crazy over heat doesn't mean you necessarily need to apply in direct sunlight. I was questioning more as to a hot day with cloud cover possibly to reduce the chance of burnt grass... So before commenting " No offense" in which you clearly were trying to do I left my questioned for Paul not You....
