I love this tent for 3 seasons in Britain. As you probably know, we get a lot of rain and strong wind between oct-march but for the rest of it, it's an amazing value, lightweight small packsize trekking tent. The condensation issues are no different to a £900 hilleberg soulo and are easily rectified by leaving the door open for half an hour in a morning and wiping it off with a good sponge or cloth.
This tent is amazing for the money, and hats off to naturehike for giving the part time but keen outdoor wildcamping enthusiast a solid option to get out there and enjoy the freedom without the weight!!

Hey, great to hear the tent's been working for you. I'm considering on getting it as well. Have you used it for multiple day hikes? How has it been during those? Thanks.

Love my Taga 2, got it last year and it has been serving me well. For what it's worth, I am 6'3" and I don't touch either end of my Taga 2 when laying flat on my back on my sleeping pad.

Hey Eric, I know this is an old comment, but have you used the tent on longer hikes and how has it been? Thanks.

Excellent review! I've been looking at the 1 person version of this tent as a light (and inexpensive) option for solo trips where weight is more important than space and robustness. Your review answered all my questions. Thanks! (And yes, the conclusion is that I'm going to buy one.)

I've used this tent for several Bikepacking trips and am very happy with it.

Thanks for the review. I looked at these but ended up going with the heavier cloud up - the fly creek copy. The heavier-weight version too. 1.5kg, 3.3lb. The length is marginal for me at 185cm but I fit. The double layer aspect was worth it but I suspect a well pitched Taga is better in strong winds.

nice real review! would recommend this tent for 1 person. Using it alone is spacious.

Thank you, I enjoyed the review. I bought one of these last year. I am 6ft and found it extremely comfortable, light and compact enough for use lone hiking. It was big enough to use my 50 litre pack as a back rest inside. Overnight temperature was 10 degrees centigrade, the tent was zipped up completely and there was,as expected ,a degree of condensation inside. This however was minor. Good value, easy to erect and has a footprint included.

You can make a reasonable good tarp tent out of this type of tent. Depends if the fly will fasten to the tent poles. I have done this with my NFace Cantonese by making a reasonable webbing strap to go between the poles. But a piece of paracord might work as well. So the new weight is can the inner bug ten.

Another excellent in depth review. I appreciate your principles in reviews. It's nearly impossible to not take price into account when reviewing products very firmly in the "budget" realm, so it's good you made the difficult exception with this particular item.
Great footage as well (as always) - the different interior shots give a really excellent feel for the dimensions and structure of the tent.
Do you go footprint free when out with the Taga?

    • @HikingNerd
      @HikingNerd  6 років тому +1

Cheers Luke. Sometimes I try to be more practical :)
I actually don’t use footprints at all, partly because I’m willing to subject my gear to more abuse for a data point (I find it better to get objective evidence rather than assume durability based on fabric feel), and partly because it’s lighter to repair any one-off punctures in the floor using Tenacious Tape than to carry a full footprint. It also simplifies the setup and takedown process.
Thus far, I have not had a single known puncture to any part of my shelter system from natural causes. Someone did step on my tent with crampons once but that’s it. Maybe I’m lucky or just judicious and mindful of my gear, or need to spend more nights outdoors.

Not freestanding, the main pole goes through the middle and you need to secure at least one side to keep it from flopping down.

There is one thing you should know about this tent: DON'T BUY this tent if you are 185cm (6 FEET' OR TALLER).. you will be wasting your money.

Tent is Free standing? No.. one pole and 6 stakes is not free standing. Tent is for short people.. with a short sleeping bag.. tent floor lenght is 82 inches. Many sleeping bags are 84 inches or longer. Does tent have a top of the fly vent for air movement? .. I dont see a top tent vent so tent may have interior rain, what fun it will be. Buy a better tent with a top tent vent even if it is heavy. If this tent was $50 .. its a buy.. at over $100 get the alps 2 person Lynx... its less than $100 and is 90 inches long and has 2 top fly vents so no rain. Alps LYNX 2 person tent has 2 poles and 2 doors and is free standing and weighs in at over 5 lbs.
