So I have the Cricut air explore 2 and I haven't a clue how to utilize it for anything other than iron on vinyl HTV or standard vinyl projects . I know there's many more projects I could be utilizing this machine with however I haven't a clue how to perform these operations. I was so confused as to how you were going to actually etch glass and fit it into the machine and then realized you're using etched glass vinyl apparently I have a lot more to learn and I've had this machine for almost 3 years thank you for the tutorial
Hello! I'm actually just creating a stencil with the Cricut that I then apply to the glass. You use etching cream inside the stencil to make a permanent design on the glass. It's not etched glass vinyl, it's actually etching the glass with etching cream. It's not as hard as it may sound. Just cut the stencil vinyl with your Cricut, apply it to glass, and then apply the etching cream (using the safety precautions I talk about in the video). Good luck! You can do it!
Thank you for this! I can't wait to try some of these. I also appreciate that you show some of the mistakes you made, (as many videos I've watched by others show everything is perfect and turns out great the first time... which always makes me wonder what I did wrong 😅) thanks again for this great tutorial!!
I’m so glad you’re going to try this! Yeah, I like keeping it real. Sometimes you have to make a few mistakes before you get it right. 😁At least with dollar store items you won’t waste a lot of money learning. Good luck!
Great tutorial! I have been wanting to try etching on glass for a while now. Will be trying it out soon! 😊
Thanks, Christina! You’ll love glass etching. It’s a fun way to personalize a gift.
This is a great project and any of them would make great gifts for family and friends. I don't have a Cricut yet.... but I am seriously thinking about it!!😊 Great tutorial Crissy!
Thanks, Cindy! I bet you could make some awesome furniture project with a Cricut. The machine is pretty fun. Thanks for stopping by!
Love this! Thank you!
So glad you like it, Jasmine! Thanks!
Thank you so much. I love how you show your mistakes so we do not do the same thing. Loved the video and will try etching.
Thank you, Joanne! Yes, I try to keep it real because there are often mistakes behind the scenes. That’s how we learn, right? 😊
Really helpful and well explained, thank you!
Thanks, Donovan! Glad it was helpful.
Fantastic ideas for gifts! I never thought about etching glass but after watching your video I am ready to give it a try. Merry Christmas, Kippi 😊
Thanks, Kippi! I know you could make some beautiful things. Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!
Very thorough! I will indeed be back!
Thank you, April! Maybe a little too thorough! 😂 I’m glad you’ll be back!
Awesome! I want to try this and I feel that I can be successful with your tutorial by my side. :)
You made my day, Rebecca! Thanks so much for watching. I hope you’ll be motivated to try it!😊
I love your video! Thanks for the tips on avoiding mistakes! You make everything sound so clear and simple. I can't wait to try etching glass. One question, what did you use to put behind the glass plate? Looks like red vinyl but I'm not sure what you used - it looks like one piece and it fits so well and it makes this etching stand out.
Thanks, Tonya! That is such a nice compliment. I actually just put a piece of paper behind the glass plate so you could see the etching better on the video. You could paint the back of the plate if you wanted to use it as decoration. They even make some paint specifically for plates that you can cure in the oven. Here’s one example: amzn.to/3hwBJDz
How would I type up my vows and etch it? I have a cricut but I've never known about this.
In Cricut Design Space (the software that comes with it), you would add text to a new project and then type up the vows and resize them using the built-in ruler. Let me know if you have trouble once you’re in Design Space.
Can i use on removable vinyl?
You can use stencil vinyl or removable vinyl. Just make sure the vinyl has no bubbles around the edges where the etching cream might seep through.
What brayer did you use?
I just used a Mod Podge one I had. Cricut also has one they sell. I like this one because it has both a roller and a squeegee side: amzn.to/3Zw4MZC
Ok I just got a cricut and I wanna make stuff like this but I wanna try it out is there a site I can get free pictures before I spend money I fell in love with the stuff you made
Great to hear, Loleatta! Sometimes Cricut has free designs in Cricut Design Space. One of my favorite places for free stuff is also here: www.creativefabrica.com/ref/2517095/. Also, I really appreciate people supporting my small business, and you get jpg and png files from me in addition to SVG files that are used for Cricut. Have fun!
@@FirstDayofHome I'm gonna have to look into your stuff where can I find it
Here you go: shop.firstdayofhome.com. Thanks for taking a look!
I used Oracal blue stencil film and it never stays adhered to the glass no matter what I've tried. I even clean the glass with alcohol before using. Any tips??
I don’t think I’ve had the same issue with Oracal stencil film, so I wonder if the glass is very curved? That will cause gaps where the cream will seep through. The other thing you can try is using regular adhesive vinyl, which might stick better. I assume you’re making sure the glass is completely dry after wiping it with alcohol? That’s the only other potential issue I could see. I hope this helps!
@@FirstDayofHome Hmm.. I’m using the giant Dollar Tree clear glass beer mugs.. Regular Oracal 651 vinyl worked great but the stencil film kept pulling away.. I’m wondering if maybe someone sold me old film and the adhesive just isn’t good anymore?? I bought it from eBay in a bulk lot..
Okay, I just double checked exactly what I was using. It was Oramask Masking Film 813. (The name is printed on the back sheet of the film.) I bought it on Amazon. Is that the same as what you bought? Mine definitely sticks well, as you can see in the video. It’s tough to pull off once it sticks.
@@FirstDayofHome No that’s different. I may try it. Thank you!
I have my supplies linked in the description box if it’s helpful. Good luck!
Can you reuse the stencil?
Also update. Dollar tree is now $1.25 per item.
I don’t reuse the stencil when I make these because it often breaks or gets stretched out when you remove it. You need transfer tape to attach it to the glass, and it would be hard to transfer it back to transfer tape afterwards without it getting warped. Yes, great point about Dollar Tree!
