How safe are SoCal bridges? Baltimore bridge collapse raises concerns

- The collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge is raising alarms about the bridge safety in Southern California, like the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
abc7.com/bridge-collapse-safe...
The bridge lasted many decades. It was slammed by a huge overseas container ship. Do people think the ship would bounce off a support beam?
The stupidity is astounding, blaming Biden, Buttegieg ... Everything else but the cargo ship driver.🙄
Why not find a bridge that has supports in the water as an example? The Vincent Thomas Bridge supports are on land. This has not relation to the Baltimore bridge.
aren’t the towers of these big suspension bridges usually thick and strong?
What about the Gerald Desmond bridge? It’s only about a mile or two from the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
That container ship had already hit a concrete dock in Belgium. An accident waiting to happen.
Why doesn't the report just answer the question in the title?
Our bridges are safe and not necessarily bullet proof, especially colliding with a huge cargo ship.
Mark brown was driving the ship
Oh man I knew that's who was driving that s***
This report fails to provide an answer to the question presented in the descriptor.
Clickbait. Anything for views.
I knew they’d waste a segment of time on this. Because that’s how stupid people are in this country. A thing happens, so now everyone is like WHAT ABOUT SOME OTHER BRIDGE??? Like every city with skyscrapers being concerned a 9/11 will happen to them. The bridge and the skyscraper panic just goes to show how people absolutely have no idea what caused any of these events to happen. Like it was just some random event and “nobody” knows how it happened.
And I know some self appointed "expert" (clown) like you would chime in thinking you know so much more than the "stupid people" you criticize!
Never would have happened in SoCal, the homeless would have band together and pushed it out of the way before destroying their homes.
Lol.. its ingenious, actually. Instead of living under_ the_ bridge... live in it !!
I guess you've never seen the ports. They'll chase out anyone that doesn't work down there or you'll just be run over by a rig.
@@TA-np4mc Yo,....Artificial Intelligence; it was a joke,,,,,SirZeus was being facetious, other wise referred to as ' kidding. ' Unbelievable! You Spock's - all intellect - too serious imo. Yw!
Brian Williams was there when the bridge got hit.
Rebuild bridge, like cable stayed, Scott Key
No worries. The transients sleeping in them with hold them up.
No worries, California Economy subsidizing the U.S. Economy dragged by Broke, Welfare RedStates . CA: the 4th LARGEST ECONOMY in the WORLD.
Baltimore Bridge Collapse?
Collapse?!!!
How do you conflate a Collapse w/ a Collision of incredible magnitude? 🤯
These are the same people that use the word “stampede” when talking about crowd crushes
The bridges are fine if multi-ton 1000ft cargo ships don't run into them
Mark Brown why were you driving that ship mark😅
@1:48, Only thing congested is this dudes nose 👃🏻 Lmao 😂
Okay tell me what you learned😅
The boat turned right. Turning power off does not steer it into the column. Is merely the device to blame, an alibi. Whatever really happened made the ship turn to its right near the bridge.
Do you know how long it takes that big of a boat to turn even the slightest bit? Without power or steering capabilities then they had no possible way of controlling the boat... They also made an emergency phone call minuets before impact. Everybody just has to wait for the investigation instead of making conspiracy theories
@@shawnrhaweh4582 It Started to emit smoke when lights came on briefly. It was using its engine then changing direction. I think it was stirred and accelerated towards the column on purpose. Sort of, turned the lights on to ensure the tanker would crash and turned lights off again. But that is my opinion. Doubt there is such currents in bays. That can divert that much mass.
It must have used its propulsion I think to change course so drastically. I think.
MV Dali dragged it's port anchor, too.
Yes, It was like a hard right turn! Without power the ship would have drifted parallel with the bridge! It looked as if he aimed for the trussel support!😵💫
@@shawnrhaweh4582 I'm sticking to exactly what I said! I take orders from nobody! You fit that description!
It survived through GTA SA and GTA 5, i doubt it could collapse by an earthquake 😂😂
0:05 recover what? The cargo?! There are lives there! Important thing is to have them home
the bodies
@@shelbynamels973hmm
How come i never heard about the Vincent Thomas bridge? Ive lived in California all my life!!!!😅
I guess they don't have very big bridges in Lassen County.
@@shelbynamels973 Its not a well known bridge. The Coronado bridge is way more famous. Shit, the fourth street bridge in sanfrancisco is more well known.
@@louie24seven If you lived in the LA area, you would know it. Watch "To LIve And Die In LA", it's in the opening scene.
Both bridges are not so well known because they are not as photogenic as the Coronado or the Golden Gate bridges. I suppose. But for SoCal commerce, they are and have been crucial. In fact, while not mentioned in the report, the Gerald Desmond Bridge, the one closer to Long Beach, actually the one shown in the news report, was just rebuilt at a billion dollar cost, mainly to accommodate Panamax ships like the one in "Baltimore.
I'm not a bridge savant, so I don't claim to know all the bridges spanning the SF and East bays. So if one of the numerous bridges spanning the bay is mentioned, I'll make a mental note of it, figure I learned something new.
@@shelbynamels973nah, u know what? If the vincent Thomas bridge was built at the site of the 6th street bridge in l.a., it would be the 2nd most famous bridge in California. Its a classic suspension bridge, built in 1963. I cant believe i never knew about until today!!!!
I love this nonsense. So now we have to talk about how safe are our bridges. If they are not safe, they need to do something about it now stupid.
