Uni Kuru Toga: Advanced vs Pipe Slide vs Standard Mechanical Pencils

  • Uni Kuru Toga models explained! Standard ( amzn.to/2Oec8KW ) compared to the Pipe Slide ( amzn.to/2JmJXIK ) compared to the Advanced ( amzn.to/2SqR0oc ).
    The price ranges are a little but more than I said in the video, but they are about $5 to up $8. A nice Roulette kit ( amzn.to/2D715ly ) is about $10 if you want to upgrade.
    My favorite of the bunch is the Advanced. It looks cool and works well. I like the weight and the price is reasonable. It's auto-rotation of the lead happens at 2x speed which seems just right for me.

    I used a standard Kuru Toga for about two years as my main mechanical pencil. I liked the pencil. It was very reliable. I switched about a year ago to a standard Zebra DelGuard. I prefer the DelGuard because it feels better when writing. Both pencils are great and I would love writing with both. I have used many mechanical pencils and the Kuru Toga and DelGuard are my favorites. I bought the Kuru Toga at Staples and the DelGuard at Walgreens.

      Have you had an issue with a standard version that the tip part of the pencil was breaking.

    • @Richard1855
      @Richard1855 9 місяців тому

      One outstanding feature of the KURU TOGA(regardless of version), is the tip not breaking, provided you DO NOT extend the lead more than 2mm. Longer than this will render it susceptible to breaking, like any other pencil. This pencil will always have 2mm tip as it also has an auto-feed feature. Good luck.

      The Delgard is good but the issue with it for me is that so many good mechanical pencils have entirely adequate lead protection features. So it’s specialization is essentially over killing an issue that almost no one has.

    I was thinking about how the Delguard and the Kuru Toga are competitors in spite of doing very different things... here's what I came up with:
    The 0.3mm Delguard combines the inherent thin line of 0.3mm lead with the break-resistance typically found only in thicker lead.
    The 0.7mm Kuru Toga combines the inherent toughness of 0.7mm lead with the line-width of a thinner lead.
    Two different ways to achieve "best of both worlds".
    So as I see it, the 0.5mm Delguard is NOT a competitor to the Kuru Toga, but the 0.3mm Delguard is.

    VERY GOOD REVIEW~! Straight to the point, didn't need any tables or a fancy showcase. I've been using the Kuru Toga Roulette model for years, but decided I wanted a grip of a different material. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the advanced model and one with a soft grip that I haven't descided on.

    • @Richard1855
      @Richard1855 9 місяців тому

      I made a change of the grip. I took a grip from a Papermate mechanical pencil and slipped it onto my KURU TOGA and haven't looked back. Have a good look at the numerous grips made by other manufacturers and I pretty sure you will find one that you like. Happy hunting 🙂

    I too own all these UNI mechanical pencils beginning from the standard and graduating to the Advance, starting off about the same time you made this video. This is my observation watching your video. Instead of extending the lead that you have which is about 4mm, try extending it to 1-2mm, after all this all that is needed to write with; as we all know that the Kuru Toga system rotate and extend the lead automatically. What I have discovered that by doing this, I can press down very hard, thus making my writing darker; yet NOT break the lead. Here again the Advance has an inbuilt safeguard mechanism to achieve this. I demonstrated this to some work colleagues and got them to try this, much to their amazement. One of them immediately ordered one on-line. Good video by the way.

      How do you change the LED

    • @Richard1855
      @Richard1855 9 місяців тому +1

      @@RiaG268 once you have used up all the lead or want to change the type, it is quote a simple process. Remove the top push end cap. Underneath it should an eraser, which also serves a a plug. Remove the eraser plug and tip the pencil upside down and the existing lead should fall out. At this point, you can put in the type of lead that you like(mine is HB), you should be able to put in at least six pieces. Reinstall the eraser plug and top push end cap and it is all done🙂. What I have described is for a uni KURU TOGA mechanical pencil and I'd imagine would be very similar for the other brands.

    I got the roulette but the knurling irritates the skin on the side of my middle finger's nail, so I put a rubber sleeve on it which defeats the purpose of the design I guess. My dream pencil is a delguard lx with the same springiness but the lead rotation of the kuru toga.
