The harmonies are incredible. Not a lot of fanfare was given to the backing band/singers that were part of the Carpenter's sound. Here is the original recording written by Ralph Carmichael. Karen in fine form with one or two little variations from the studio and the word "last" at 1:07 feels so natural and inspired. 1972 was their best year - the year of "A Song For You". In retrospect, is there anything more they could have done to take this energy and relaxation (!) into the studio albums?
Karen had a way of just pronouncing words in a way which amplified the effect of her voice. In the song "End Of The World" she pronounces 'end' as 'and'. This makes the song just that subtle little bit easier to listen to.
