- Today we are looking at the quirkiest of the New Seiko 5 lineup: the SRPD77K1 "Avocado".

I really like this watch. It hacks, it has more than acceptable H2O resistance ( 100M/330ft) and the Seiko 5 line has a tradition going back to 1963. The 4R36 day/date movement is very good. I think the hacking feature w the 4R36 more than makes up for the lesser H20 resistance which is just hubris to most 'dive watch' enthusiasts whose watches never see water depths greater than the local pool, lake or beach.Additionally a good Seiko 200M diver such as the 'Samurai ' can be purchased for around $394USD. Additionally if you desire Seiko movement of the 4R variety with the addition of a sapphire crystal for under $300USD I would recommend the Islander series of watches from Long Island Watches.

You are right, if you are not a diver a 200m ISO diver is just overkill, but it tickles people's fancies 😂.

I like it more than the SKX. If they have nostalgia, well, they can buy the prospex line. Also, the mods for this watch are insane as well. 😉

I enjoyed most of your video until you started going on about watch enthusiasts..
I'm VERY attracted to this watch, yet, guess I'm not an enthusiast eventhough I have a pretty big collection?
What is an enthusiast? Someone who follows what others (or popular concept) of what is "within" the standards of acceptance? or simply someone who enjoys something and continues their search and knowledge in a hobby/subject?
I for one would pick this model over the "venerable" enthusiast level SKX because it's got more useful features and simply looks (watches are jewelry) way better! I value a hacking movement on an auto more than a Diver's ISO rating on a cheap watch I'd never even dream of using for real diving anyways. Most of us diver-watch-lovers would treat our divers almost as if they had a 30m rating anyways.
Sometime I feel the word enthusiast is thrown about as judgment of others and what they prioritize compared to your own priorities.

Is it me or the bezel rotates to easily? I have another seiko 5 and that bezel turns harder.
It's pretty good, as on any other sports Seiko 5 from this generation
How's the watch doing after 3 years? How's the mechanism doing?
I don't have it anymore so I couldn't say, but I kept the other version and it's still going strong

I'm wondering how could the nylon bracelet could be with water.... I mean if you sweam in the ocean like.... How long would takes to dry out
With my experience with natos, I te should take about 2 to 3 hours if the weather is nice
This is the seiko SRPD77K1 what is the diffrence with the SRPD77?
They will all have a letter and number in the end. The letter will be "J" meaning it was made in Japan or "K" meaning it was made elsewhere. The number afterwards is normally for the strap or bracelet option.

It's exactly the same watch except for the aesthetics. The best you can do is see if you have a chance to check them out in person at your local store. In any case it will be up to your preferences
Really they still make missaligment mistakes and Citizen, Invicta and Chinese watches even get it perfect... They should offer better strap and sapphire for that price.

Bottom line, it depends on what you need. If you don't intend to go diving with your watch 100m will be more than enough!
