- Identifying potential driving hazards early (anticipation) is crucial to staying safe on the road. The "what if" question should be in your mind all the time. This in-turn will help you plan what to do next on your journey and help you to avoid serious driving problems.
With practice, your awareness of potential problems will improve, allowing you to drive with more thought. Defensive driving is a skill we continually improve, day after day, long after you've passed your driving test!
Remember: a hazard is any potential reason for you to need to change your speed, course or direction.
This video is also useful resource for anyone trying to understand the Hazard Perception part of the DVLA Theory Test.

Great video, loads of good solid information!!!! How about placing a speedometer for the students to see the speed fluctuating as each situation changes
Superb Idea. 🙌👌
Vans... even the courier may suddenly step down to the road from behind the van... Good luck to your channel.
Great Point!! And Thank you for your support! 🙌👍
great video!! i’m hoping to use these tips in my driving lesson. planning is the only thing stopping me from passing my test. quick question, do you fail on your test if someone overtakes you? i was told by my instructor that you’d fail if someone overtook you
Hello Radha. I think your driving instructor may need to explain that statement with a little more detail to you. You need to understand the proper context. Being over-taken is not a problem. However, if it is because you are failing to make adequate progress then this could be a problem with an examiner. For example, let's say you are are driving at 30mph on a road which is National Speed Limit. If there is a good reason why you are not driving faster then this is a justified action, e.g. poor road and traffic conditions. However, if there is no justifiable reason and you are holding up the traffic behind you, they may do something risky in order to get around you, thus leading to a serious driving fault. Does this make sense? 😊
Rio Driving School that makes perfect sense thank you for explaining that so simply 😊
