Watching these Pax Dei vids makes me want to play Wurm Unlimited! I have sunk a crazy amount of time into that game!!!
Too much times - many thousands of hours!
But I am going to get Pax Dei now, and try and NOT go back to Wurm!
I've got the Demonstalker cloth under-chest mez, and got it early.. great item. Very useful in combo with the fireball spell to hunt bears for hides. The burn effect doesn't break the mez.

Yes in a sense, subscription. But subscription for land plots? Or just for playing the game is not yet known nor have been decided yet.
My guess is if you want your own plot of land subscription is required. If you don't want plot of land and just want to play no subscription required. This would require non subscription players to join a clan and use your clan members plot of land. You can't build on your clan members plots just use their crafting structures and chests for storage that they allow access too.
Because it's going to be a player driven economy. Maybe players that op ed in to subscription to buy land can. Rent to players with no plot of land with their in game currency.
It's early access. And games have stayed in early access for years before.

You're asking a question for a year + from now. Just buy it and enjoy it while there is no subscription and worry about that later. Maybe work on your income to afford an extra $15/mo should it be the case. If $15/mo is a major factor, it might be a good idea to use some gaming time to start a side business or focus on your career. (certifications, freelance work, mow lawns, etc.) Cheers.
