Replacing the quarter panel and finding some hidden problems with the RAV4 build

- This week it is time to get the quarter panel reattached to the Rav4 that we removed last time. It will make it to the paint and body gnomes after I reassure myself that I hate bodywork of any kind. Once it is back from paint it will be ready to reassemble so this quick build should be done, right? Not so fast, things never work like that in the rebuild world. A little problem causes a big repair that I will save for next time.

You have a 40+ year wealth of knowledge about all things auto body, and your sense of humor ("click", "bumper installation tool") is sublime. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us! I'm fascinated by your videos. They show me a lot about how salvage repair SHOULD be done.
The smirk on your face when you removed Mr. Spotty and then he was still on the car... I got a chuckle out of that one too
😀
Mr. Spotty is destined to spend the rest of his days in a Toyota!
Finally revealed... Mr. Spotty has a twin. More at eleven.
I can hear it now ... sometime in the future ... someone pulls this car apart again ... pulls off the left side quarter and states ... "Somebody's been here before ..." :o)
The plastic joke was so funny
Mind boggling repair. I have never seen a tech so smooth and knowledgeable. GREAT JOB
Ghasti diya bachaya
it is called editing out the hard parts
Scott, your attention to detail is insane...seriously impressive work man, keep it up!
Kenneth James
The greater majority of people, as is my observation, cannot even pay attention
to detail in their writing ability. Almost all take shortcuts, I've instead of I have
We've instead of we have, you've instead of you have. Your instead of you're or you are
and so it goes. I sometimes wonder if these people ever had proper Toilette training.
That's why I keep a safe distance from them, and never shake their hand.
God knows where the hand has been.
In my profession, by training; Electronics and Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and over
20 years Military Service, 2 years on attachment to the USAF, and working on Military
aircraft, and other Mil/NASA projects, attention to detail is paramount.
Errors can and will eventually, sooner or later cost the loss of life.
It is unfortunate that errors have been made, and it is painful for everyone
You always always do it right even if its invisible you need to do it right as you would know its not, its attention to detail and workmanship in its finest form
Vehcor,
The detail work you do is like never I witnessed before. The quality and attention to detail makes me extremely confident to buy a vehicle from you in the future.
Scott,I really enjoy watching you make these repairs on some of these wrecked vehicles that U end up with,it amazes me that so often the replacement parts are the same color as the vehicle ur repairing, you make all this body work look so easy, and you take pride in the great work that you do,if I ever needed collision work done I would hope to have a guy like you to do the work for me,I'm a faithful subscriber, watch ur video every Friday, keep up the great videos
Paul, the oldgoatkeeper
Great video. I am amazed at the amount of "glue" used in auto construction.
It's stronger than steel in some applications.
Woooo.Hoooo..Vehcor Friday. Just getting done house work after my full time job. Does any of these EVER surprise you? Oh wait i know thw answer..lol. Scott thanks a ton for taking the time to make and edit these. Be safe have a great weekend. Its gonna be in the 60's here in Philthadelphia.
I really enjoy watching you work on the vehicles! It’s nice to watch a craftsman at work. Keep up the GREAT JOB, I would definitely buy a rebuilt vehicle off of you! You are the type of repair man we need more of. 😊👍👌
After watching you repair this....I am pretty sure I could tackle the job myself....said the last two guys who promted, somebody's been here before!
Now we see why the RAV4 was totalled. It was the heater box fault that added so much to the repair cost that it went over the budget. Whoever replaces the quarter panel next time will see Mr Spotty's ghost there! See you next week, whatever you might be working on. All the best from Queensland Australia.
These things hold their value, even with the extra work it probably should not have been totaled. Some shops just find any reason they can to get out of work they deem too difficult. Best wishes from the USA!
This guy makes it look easy. Fun to watch a real craftsman.
After years in the dark environs of a Toyota quarter panel, Mr. Spotty will return speaking Japanese and looking for some payback. Stay tuned for 'Ninja Spotty'.
Mr. Spotty: お前はもう死んでいる!
I love your door insulation tool. Your cameraman not doing too bad either. He's 👍 good.
With all the videos on UA-cam I can honestly say that yours, and South Main Auto are by far the best!
Bottom of the door covers seem like would be great for collecting salty water and testing the rust prevention coatings on bottom edge of door. what a Good way to prove your coatings tech by not weeping out that road salt!
You need to leave a Mr. Spotty in every car you re-do. That way when it's said: 'Somebody's been here before...' They'll know it was done right.
Happy Friday Scott!
Another action-packed episode of the trials and tribulations of a body tech accompanied by the humble Mr. Spotty. Nice work stitching up the rear section, all the plastic parts, and the diagnosis/presumption of the blend door malfunction in the HVAC system. I feel for ya, having to remove not only the heater box assembly but also the complete dash. Yikes, that's a video in itself, right? Work safe, enjoy your weekend, take care of Mr. Spottty so he can come back for the next adventure!
Doug@ the "ranch"
Lovely Jubbly, very thorough.
Good to see you again 🙋♂️👍
Great work as usual
The heater blend door in my 2010 Impala kept stripping actuator drive gears until I discovered that the previous owner had spilled soda into the vent. After several rounds of alternating spritzing hot water and Windex into the vent, it finally started working without hesitation. I figured as long as I didn't outright pour water into it, it would dry itself out. It did. Whew!
All work Vehcor perfect
the craftsman's work always seems simple.....
Great work and keep safe out there and it's literally looks fantastic job
Thanks! Stay safe as well.
Gotta love those multipurpose installation tools you have. I think manufacturers have decided to support their use extensively!
Always interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing. In my youth, the trendy named RAV4 was called a station wagon.
If the people who design the vehicles we drive today had to repair them they would be back at the drawing board, nice job on the Toyota 😎👍👍
Good job guy. It was fun watching
Great job.198 thousand subscribers
Vehcor does such awesome work it attracts trains and first responders. LOL
Thumbs up and I enjoy your work. Thanks for sharing this build.
I drive the same car, surprising how it all just pops apart. Nice car.
Dam you do great work!!!!!
Thanks
Very satisfying; nice work!
Thanks!
That sure is a great deal of work just to replace the fuel filler door cheers from Jacksonville Florida
Love your channel you work and teach my kind of guy
Mr Spotty’s stunt double is now part of the car!!
It escapes me that millions of people don't watch you. This is better than anything on t.v.
I see Mr. Spotty left some of his DNA under that quarter panel at 2:32.
Your very detailing great job. 👌👌👌
Having a 2017 platinum i loved seeing you rebuilding this one
Toyota have a white paint problem and I am going monday morning for repainting my wing 😕
Precision work from a precise guy. Mustang, yes please! I've quit smoking, need something to occupy my down time.
I laughed hard about the "people still fall for the nitrogen scam", we used to call it "Jungle gas", and its not a scam, you get real nitrogen, it won't do anything to benefit you like the shops claim, but its real lol
Love it when dealers list it on there for $200, along with the $800 cloth protection package and $300 wheel locks.
Great work as always Keep giving it to the Trolls love it
I work at a place where I cut quarters panels on cars for body shops kind interesting to see how they actually do it very interesting
Awesome work. Keep it up. Inspires me to wrench on my car.
Thanks!
Love ur videos could watch them for hours very satisfying
Hey, give the power window switch panel installation tool some credit! You may have missed a few more but this one is quite important 😅
Wheel covers are one of the main reasons Toyota is a trillion dollar company
Those are some nice, reliable trim installers you got there. Might be a pen that fell in the "gutter".
If pushing in plastic clips were a olympic sport you would be a world champion (even though you used the door seal installation tool to install bumper clips and used the closeout panel installation tool for the roof rail trim installation)
Dash! Interesting idea on what caused the issue.
Well, my theory is that it was a combination of bad design and slobs. We will find out for sure in the next video.
Tell Mister spotty I said hello.
Your videos are always entertaining and informative. As an added bonus to ruin people's lives you should give the seat belt strap a twist before you reinstall it.
Have a great weekend and happy Thanksgiving from downstate Illinois!
Scott - another great video. Can't wait for the dash to be pulled out. Can you talk to the camera person to make sure he doesn't mess up again - 😁
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I’m glad to see Mr. Spotty is adhering to the new contract!! 😂
And ...... Just like that. Job done.
Masterclass in repair work.
And yes can we have more Mustang please?
Très bon travail de pro bravo
Would like to see the body work and paint process.
Mr. Spotty's Easter egg...
Nice build again. Looks good, you will sell this really fast.
These toyotas with their subpar wheels and hidden surprises! Ford friday er.. Toyota Friday, Noice!
I am starting to feel like this thing has caught the Ford Flu!
I see on the outtakes that the dash is out, well that was easy I hope it goes back in just as quick 🙃
nice paint match on the used quarter. Irrelevant, but nice.
Mustang please, been waiting for that one for a while.
Handling APD claims for years, i often had to total a car simply because a long rental would make the loss too much to not just total.
Good video love the side comments
2:30 holy crap, Mr. Spotty has a body double!! I knew he was in one too many places at the same time...
if i ever brought a used vet it would be from you i like your work
Great Tec...
Steel wheels with covers are lighter than alloys and as every successive model of car becomes heavyer every little helps as they say in the adverts 👍🏻
The train. The train 🚂🤣🥃👍
Alway's want to avoid removing the dash,,, You have to wait for all the planets to re align before attacking the dash. I do like how simple you make it look.
Great video! I just started this job as an apprentice. So far the hardest part has been puttting back all the parts and pieces together and it isnt easy to remember which screws and pieces were there. Pls give some tips when you assemble~ thx
Where’s the afternoon crew? A special episode on boring Friday “The Afternoon Crew: Where are they Now” LOL.. great job man as always
Great video
awesome video Scott. Anxious for the next one. Have a great day and stay safe. Happy Thanksgiving wishes.
Lol, peel off spotty to reveal another spotty...too funny.
Very good vidio.thank you
Now I see where your daughter gets the same reinstalling the moldings back on the vehicle.
I hope i will never end up buying a car with such a " clean history" if i do i hope to be lucky enough and get one that was " just serviced" by someone as professional as him
Most of those laws are selectively enforced in California as the occifers are overloaded deciphering the deerections on their TP
Uno. Defecate
Dos. Wipe
Californians, moving to a town near you , with the intention to change it !
Too late, Illinois is already racing to the bottom with NY and CA.
California will break off eventually and sink to the bottom of the ocean.
@@christiancomputing8771 I moved from New York to Alaska, but have no intention of changing it. I know first hand the pain of living in a Nanny state.
To the pile we go. Warranties were made to be broken.
best educational video on the youtube:) great!
Rav4 gets a Mr Spotty tattoo
Another Quality & Informative Video. Would Like to see Mr. Spotty doing Maintainance on His Daily Driver. 😎 TOY-YOYO... Oh, What a Feeling2😂. Diagnosis; Somebodys Been Here Before.
I think that diagnosis solves 80% of problems these days! 😂
Mr Spotty forever 2:33.
Shit , pulling the dash is a bummer . On the up side , now that you supposedly fired the afternoon crew you have cut down a lot on labour cost so you won´t lose too much .
The RAV4 has a hidden Spotty tramp stamp 👀😂
Great job 🙋♂️👍
I enjoy your “clean freak” comments
Nice video sir
Thanks!
I love your work and watching every Friday! I have been trying to make a go here in Saskatchewan Canada of flipping cars, but man the costs are out of this world! Scrap yards are so crooked here you can’t even buy a front clip! The mechanical part no problem but I’m no body man. Trying to learn by watching. It’s the paint part that’s impossible. I would love to know what you pay for the painting gnomes. I am trying to get two used fenders off a 2008 Saturn view painted that have no rust and they want $1,500. And that’s with the fenders off and dropped at their door. Its getting hard to make a buck!
I think this is the first car I ever saw that you can take the heater box out without removing the entire dash lol
No BS, I actually enjoy doing dash jobs. Give me all the heater cores, blend doors, and evaporators 🤪
Did you get your sweet taste of profit? Mustang time! 😃
If MR spotty has a twin. Is it his evil twin or good twin.😆
