I think that's a first, an American moves to Colombia and dates someone who is age appropriate. Seems like a good down to earth guy, makes a lot of excellent points. Enjoyable interview. Regarding safety, someone visiting for a short time will probably be fine, but ask any local and they'll tell you crime is a big problem. It's not a mystery, there's high unemployment and a large percentage of people are living in poverty, plus the police here do very little.

I spent the last 18 months in Colombia and never felt loneliness one time. Ive been back in the USA for two months now and loneliness is physically making me sick. I gotta figure out gow to get a long term visa in Colombia. I have the retirement income im just not sure if i want ro sell my house and cars if im only going to get a one year visa not knowing if they will renew my visa each and every year. Colombia makes the visa process kinda difficult. Chan do you have an English speaking lawyer who does visas

All ya gringos or passport bros, don't ya ruin Cali like another Meddy... it's still in my early retirement list after traveling through 4 continents. Cali is too dangerous for most of ya.. go elsewhere, paisa capital, Thailand, Philippines, whatever is safer for you.. let the ones who could manage risks to stay there...
I doubt that's going to happen. Overall we are not remotely close to that. The difficulty level of Cali is just too high. It's not an easy City to crack.

Place needs to be safe, clean, high quality food, easy access to travel, and convenient. Paying $2000 a month to live vs $4000 is immaterial if you have to watch your back at night or worry.
I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Most dangerous city in the world. Tourists flock here daily to see the big five animals. It all depends on how you expose yourself to criminals

the long term trend is a weakening Colombian peso against the US dollar.... the dollar just buys more and more
