Ay Dios mio! I have my luggage ready to visit Calli 😎... but now I need to save LOL!! 😅 My mind is blown!! I love all the information you shared with us on this awesome adventure! I will need to visit that museum when I do visit.
Wow great video. Didn’t know that Cali had so much salsa or why they dance differently. I'm from New York. Glad you said it was one of the homes of salsa. Don’t know if you were aware but the salsa music that went international started because the NY Latin population played here trying to follow swing or big bands of the African Americans but they got booed off the stage because people felt the music sounded simple and country due to their instruments. They practiced playing instruments like the trumpet and trombone added it to the music and that went viral which spread all over New York and then the world. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I’ll have to visit Cali. 👍
Yess NY was absolutely key to the rise of salsa! Thanks to the trial and error you mention here. So cool how that happened. We’re thankful for it because salsa is a big part of our lives! Thanks for watching one of our favorite videos ❤️😊
Glad you are showing the true spirit and vibes of Cali.

Been coming to Cali for a Decade. Live here now. Only time I was robbed was by the traffic police Just gotta be smart. Don’t wear jewelry or use your phone on the street. Take Uber Buenaventura is a shithole. Very dangerous. Palmira is fine
Where are you from brother?? I’m from Manchester, UK 🇬🇧 Visiting Cali for the first time in October. Never been to Colombia before. Staying in Bogotá with a friend for two days, then to Cali To meet another friend. I met both through HelloTalk language learning app and have speaking to them for around 4 years. I’m fully aware that I’m not going to blend in too well. Super nervous, but excited at the same time.
The Washington D.C. comparison is just nonsense. “no dar papaya means” every one in Cali is trying to separate you from your money and property . Hard to enjoy when you are always on the look out.
As humans we draw comparisons based on our own experiences. Our friend has lived in DC and that's his experience. But, I get it. It's fair to say it's hard to enjoy when you're always on the lookout. But it's not really that intense.
@@EatBailaTravel Jazz comes from Black American culture. It started in New Orleans from Black Americans and Jazz is a successor to Ragtime. So in Latin America they don't teach this??
the social dance scene is different.. social dancers dance for the joy of dancing, not for potential dating, plus we're secure enough in our relationship that neither one of us worries about stuff like that 🙂
They say that there is "diversity: cultural in Cali? Diversity in Medellin that with the same population already quadruples Cali in international tourists, Medellin even doubles the capital itself in consulates for so many foreigners residing in Medellin, these guys still lack Much to know in Colombia.
We were referring more so to Colombian diversity, as in based on tenor national population. Medellin is much bigger than Cali and has more foreigners yes, but the Colombians in Medellin are mostly white Colombians. Cali has the highest population of Afro-Colombian residents of the cities in Colombia and also has significant populations of indigenous and other ethnicities within Colombia

Dude even in the video it says Salsa came from AFRICA. You skim over that….wild. The population of Cali is over 50% dark skinned or African decent. This has much to do with the culture in Cali, and is not something to gloss over.
The point of this video isn’t about the origin of salsa, it’s about Cali and its salsa culture. Its origin is a part of the story so it’s mentioned but not focused on. It was not our intent to “skim” over it. Sorry if it came across that way.
@EatBailaTravel I completely understand but once you said where does it come from...you never mentioned Africa....the video said it but not you. Even the swa food you ate came from a Afro Colombiana. The fact your were in Cali and didn't mention the Afro Colombian culture was strange. Visiting Cali anyone would notice the majority of the people being of Afro decent. Just wanted to make sure the story was told truthfully without ommission. With that said the documentation of the video was great and well covered . If you re watch the video you will understand what I mean.....on the mention of the orgin being in Africa. Thanks for reply and blessings to you two.
No no no. Salsa wasn't born in NYC. Salsa is Cuban! Cubans spread their popular music at the time when they immigrated to NYC. Someone in S America started calling this Cuban music that came from NY salsa. Let's get this record straight .
No one said in this video, salsa was born in Colombia, it’s pretty much telling you, Colombia kept the culture alive…whick Puerto Rico doesn’t care , or lost there heritage and culture, (didn’t pass it down you the young genearation)… get your stories straight, ya worried about bad bunny, not El gran combo anymore 😂😂

So nice dance by so nice brother

what do you mean by 'give papaya'
It means don’t make yourself an easy target for an opportunist thief/criminal
@@EatBailaTravel "No dar papaya" is the phrasing i'd heard in other videos about expats in Colombia. is that phrase uniquely Colombian? is that wording used in any other Spanish language places where you've spent time? Mexico? Ecuador? Spain? even US?
@@DavidCoxDallasnot to my knowledge. I am a Spanish speaker and have never heard any other Latín American or Spaniard use the phrase in that context.

Hahaha she’s my hero!
This is a city where you have to be a good dancer as in a good salsa dancer to live there.
you don't have to be good to live there, it's a great place to go and learn!
What’s does give papaya
It’s a Colombian expression that means something along the lines of “don’t tempt the opportunist robber by having your valuables out on display”
In American terms “Dont be flexing” Jaja
@LA55PICHAS55 YES 😆 hahaha
Cali es cali papà
😍😍👍👍

Been coming to Cali for a Decade. Live here now. Only time I was robbed was by the traffic police
Just gotta be smart. Don’t wear jewelry or use your phone on the street. Take Uber
Buenaventura is a shithole. Very dangerous. Palmira is fine
We really wanted to go to Buenaventura, hopefully next time we go back to
Colombia.
Where are you from brother??
I’m from Manchester, UK 🇬🇧
Visiting Cali for the first time in October. Never been to Colombia before. Staying in Bogotá with a friend for two days, then to Cali
To meet another friend. I met both through HelloTalk language learning app and have speaking to them for around 4 years. I’m fully aware that I’m not going to blend in too well.
Super nervous, but excited at the same time.

The best Salsa is NYC!!!
Not even close amigo!
@@EatBailaTravelYou are right and it was a great video. I just get triggered by the “Dar Papaya” philosophy.
Salsa + Cocaine = Cali Salsa. 😄
Hahahaha
the girl at the end will end up in the newspapers big time one day. Stupid and naive behavior. Could have gone wrong badly.
Haha that’s funny you say that because she’s actually a professional journalist

Salsa is from africa
in many ways, yes!
jazz is not latin
Where is jazz from?
@@EatBailaTravel Jazz comes from Black American culture. It started in New Orleans from Black Americans and Jazz is a successor to Ragtime. Black American musical tree is Negro Spirituals > Gospel > Blues > Ragtime > Jazz > Soul > R&B > Funk > Disco > Hip Hop/House etc if you are fan of music there are plenty of great readings on this.
@@EatBailaTravel Exactly, 60% of the population of CALI is Afro-descendant and it is the second city in Latin America with the most Afro-descendants, only surpassed by SALVADOR DE BAHIA in Brazil, but for that reason it is also the most dangerous city in Colombia, the same thing happens in BRAZIL & USA, the most violent cities are where people of color predominate the most, it is not racism but it is reality.

I think you missed the whole point of the video. It’s worth watching again 😉
