IAh, the Gen 2 games. Funny story, Silver was the first pokemon game I ever bought, but I have played Pokemon Blue before that. How is that possible? I promised a kid on the bus I rode the day before I was to stop riding the bus that I would trade him a rare pokemon card for it. So, he gave we the game and I never saw him again. I wonder if it’s because there’s only like 2 pokemon on that whole route. I imagine less pokemon in an area improves chances of a shiny. It just makes sense
I remeber back in 5th grade when the 1st came out in NA kids would call Donphan Rollerphant. Because well Donphan rolled and looked like an elephant. The Pikablu thing as well was at my school. Also it's kinda weird how Togepi, Marill, and Snubbull all were given the Fairy-Typing later in life after they were introduced to us around the same time.
I remember getting gold when it was released it was my first pokemon game I owned but I had previously borrowed and have played Blue from a friend many memories were made playing Gen 1&2 they were my favorite games in the series
2:28 they were NOT known. i remember back in school when this movie first came out, no one knew what that pokemons name was and half my school was playing pokemon and were crazy about it. any kid that was anyone saw this movie in theeaters and i saw like 20 kids from my school in that showing.
Yeah I felt it best to just avoid talking about “spoilery” stuff. Because that was an awesome surprise. I remember kinda predicting it a little bit, or at least thinking “that would be awesome if you could go back to Kanto”
Pokemon Gold was the first game I ever preordered and was the only one for quite some time. As for teasers, a panel in the Yellow Chapter of the manga showed that Blue (the girl character from FireRed and LeafGreen) had a Marill that she didn't battle with. I also wish that the Fire Seal and Anchor Shark Pokemon from the demo had made the final game. When I got my copy I don't remember what starter I picked, but I think that it was Chickorita. I got all the way to Bugsy and actually got so hard stuck that I reset and picked Cyndiquil instead. I ended up mainly just using Typholsion even against the bonus boss. Sadly that file is long gone thanks to the clock draining the save battery. Definitely my favorite games in the series, but I consider Ruby/Sapphire to be better games overall.
My mom ordered me the Japanese version of silver out of a magazine lol. She called Nintendo asking why it was in a different language. They told her she wasn't suppose to even have that game and it was illegal for some reason 🤣
I remember playing Pokémon Crystal and winning the bug contest with a Paras to win a Sun Stone first try. I thought I would have to retry over and over, but nope, Parasite won me that stone. I ended up Using a Bellossom on my team because of Paras. I named that Paras "eun winner."
It definitely is. I only didn’t mention it because I don’t really want to mention spoilery stuff. Even though I’m sure just about everybody knows about this haha
I got a shiny spearow in gold at the begining part a few years ago just after getting the 5 pokeballs after that I proceed to shiny breeding with the ditto technique in my stadium 2 and got some shinys for the petit cup XDD
That’s awesome. I *think* I found a shiny in these games once but I can’t remember what it was. I think it was super common like Zubat or Geodude. Last shiny I found in older games was a Torkoal in Ruby
I hate that Pikachu was there alone in the box, could have at least Pichu with Pikachu to say that there also a new Pikachu or make a mystery and tell that it was A BABY POKEMON. It also makes me rage that many old pokemon are in the wild areas, since the worst part of this game is that are exclusive Jotho pokemon ONLY FOUND AFTER THE MAIN GAME!
I think mainly cuz of the movie, everybody always seemed to prefer Silver version and Lugia, but I was a rebel both back then and now and prefer Gold and Ho-oh way more.
Pokemon was starting to get hazy for me at this time. I have zero recollection of Gold/Silver which leads me to believe I never played them. I probably went straight to Crystal because I do remember chasing those Legendary Dogs (Beasts) whatever I'm supposed to call them now apparently.
Am I the only one that can't really differenciate Gold and Red? They're both boys with a cap and red clothes, the only difference is that Red wears a backpack and don't have his cap backwards XD
Ngl. If it wasn't for chikorita the Johto trio would be high up on a tier list. Same thing for Kanto and hoenn tbh. Usually the grass type messes up their rank aside hoenn where it's the water type. Sinnoh has the strongest starter line up sitting at the top. Unova is decent. Second place. We don't talk about the rest lol.
Heck, I just love the fact that we got to be able to go back to Kanto due to one programmer optimizing and compressing the game's data (as well as removing the debug tools like he was originally supposed to). Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.
The sheer amazement at finishing the elite 4 and then finding I could run through Kanto as well remains the biggest gaming twist ive experienced

Rollerphant. I never heard that one myself.
Best generation
You've traumatized Matthew so much he's become a delinquent.
Maybe he shouldn’t be stealing Pokémon from tree professors 💁🏻♂️
There was also that time Tracy sketched elekids plugs in the orange islands arc
The Kia Optima is such an underrated car, great choice!
ayyee been waiting for this :)
Amazing video as ever mate. Would have loved to hear your experience with Kanto and how you felt when you discovered you could revisit it
Yeah I felt it best to just avoid talking about “spoilery” stuff.
Haha I wonder how many others quit after trying Chikorita. Bugsy’s Scyther is no joke.
I remember when they came out and my middle school library was selling Gold or Silver book marks. The hype was real.
I bet those were a hot commodity then too
I still remember being like 9 getting Pokémon silver in the back of my grandpas car and looking at the box art
Box art truly is a lost…art?
One of the best games in the franchise still. SOOO much better than 7-9......
HeartGold and SoulSilver are the pinnacle for a reason; this was the base.
A whole new world!
I love the intro
My mom ordered me the Japanese version of silver out of a magazine lol. She called Nintendo asking why it was in a different language. They told her she wasn't suppose to even have that game and it was illegal for some reason 🤣
Amazing. 😅 there were even unavoidable bootlegs back then
Woohoo!! More poke knowledge!
Video idea see if you can beat each Pokémon game with a Parasect
What is god doing watching paraspectives?
I’ve certainly thought about this but I wasn’t sure how different they would end up being. I would be using Spore a LOT
I was looking for Dr.Dre the Togepi
The coolest thing about this game is that you can collect Kanto’s 8 badges and fight red on Mt. Silver
It definitely is. I only didn’t mention it because I don’t really want to mention spoilery stuff. Even though I’m sure just about everybody knows about this haha
5:35 i care about fearow(hell it's my favorite Pokemon)
I always use Fearow in my gen 1 plays.
Fearow is a beast and superior to Pidgeot in a lot of ways. Drill Peck anyone
Would Silver be the follow up to green and the blue's sequel would be crystal?
You could see it that way, yeah. It’s weird thinking that Blue was originally an “enhanced” version
I still have Crystal in box :)
Red Gyarados was sick
Neat intro!
My first shiny was in gold version. I was trying to fill the unown dex and I found a shiny I.
That’s awesome. Now you gotta fill the SHINY Unown dex
@@Paraspectre oh dear god no, I've never been able to fill the normal one in anything, please don't send me into the shiny trenches in Alph.
@@Xahnel I can’t think of many things worse than trying to legitimately do this.
LMAO when will Matthews ever learn
Wtf i never knew about the mystery gift thing w the infrared
I think mainly cuz of the movie, everybody always seemed to prefer Silver version and Lugia, but I was a rebel both back then and now and prefer Gold and Ho-oh way more.
5:35 I care about Fearow
My apologies 😅
2:20 Who else hated Snubull ever since?
I’m pretty indifferent toward Snubbull
Your girlfriend got you a houndour. You're a lucky sonnava gun.
I named my rival Matthew too!
It’s really the best option out there
Pokemon was starting to get hazy for me at this time. I have zero recollection of Gold/Silver which leads me to believe I never played them. I probably went straight to Crystal because I do remember chasing those Legendary Dogs (Beasts) whatever I'm supposed to call them now apparently.
Lol I also saw red and gold being sequels same with silver and blue
Bright colors vs cool colors. I of course went the cool route 😎
So it doesnt say its compatible with the super game boy lame
Gold and Silver are compatible with both the Super Gameboy and the older Gameboy; Crystal was not.
Am I the only one that can't really differenciate Gold and Red? They're both boys with a cap and red clothes, the only difference is that Red wears a backpack and don't have his cap backwards XD
A backwards hat is sometimes all you need.
I think I thought they were the same person when I started my first Silver game
Haha yeah, gameplay wise, Chikorita is pretty lacking. I don’t dislike that line though
guys i think he kinda likes aladdin.
Actually I don’t think I’ve even seen it in probably 25 years
Heck, I just love the fact that we got to be able to go back to Kanto due to one programmer optimizing and compressing the game's data (as well as removing the debug tools like he was originally supposed to). Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.
It was such an exciting discovery
Yeah I had a tamagotchi and look how I turned out (like shit)
You had a tamagotchi?
@@KibbysGhost oh yes, several actually. no idea where I got them. I vaguely remember buying one at Toys R Us
I think my Rancor straight up died
@@Paraspectre hahaha that's what you get for having a boy Tamagotchi
Your Girlfriend is amazing :D Those Keychains are sick
