You are the best how to do in the uk 👍👍👍👌
Very helpful video. I am replacing a couple of surface-mounted sockets in my garage and wasn't sure how best to seal the gap around the knockout hole. You've helped me figure it out.
Excellent video and clear instructions!
Many thanks!
Thanks for this, i was about to drill holes into the back of my box, only to then realise i can just knock it out with a screwdriver and a tap from a hammer. Levelled up my DIY skills!
Very helpful, thank you for taking the time to upload!
Thank you. Excellent!
Thank you so much gave me the help I needed to wire my socket! Cheers

Thank you for great tutorial I broke the surface mount box when I was to drill through. Next time I’ll use your technique very helpful.
Yeah i liked that tip also. I have seen people even crush it with a screw driver though in their zeal ! 😀
cheers dude great vid
Handy hints.

Great tutorial, I was confused as to how to make holes in the surface mounted one from the bottom- thank you!
pro trick : watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Jake Dariel Yea, I've been using Flixzone for since november myself :D
Thanks. I find pattress boxes make messy holes with nose pinch pliers. Maybe i am using cheap screwfix ones. I like to use a hack saw also to give a straight edge on outside cut
Rubber grommets in steel boxes, good tip, not too many people are using them, as a metter of fact never seen it before used by any electrician and thats how cables get cut by a sharp edge. Thanks for instructions.
Please can you make aides on cable sizes and what to use for many thanks to you and merry Christmas and happy new year
That grommet won’t stop moisture or insects getting in the socket. I use either closed grommets that you can put your own hole in or get ones with pre made holes
Nice video, thanks! What make is that black flex cable? Odd question I know, a bit of background: I am just skeptical about the use of flex outdoors.. so I've been trying to convince myself otherwise. Main reason is.. I need to add a second BG box side by side to the other one and I'd like to maintain the IP rating.. so those glands are IP68 which is great, not quite sure what cable to use.. I found the Nexan 3 core is labelled for indoors only, found another brand 'Time' which is ok for both in and outdoor it seems, but the minimum operating temperature is 0 degrees.. maybe I'm a bit OCD, but I like to do a good job :) I was thinking of conduit first, but those adaptors are not IP rated.. so I'm starting to consider flexi + ip68 glands (not wanting to mess with SWA for just a 20cm run).. What would you go for? And if you can share the make of that flexi cable.. it'd be very helpful!
Dzieki !!
Very good, better than most, but he didn't show us the gland where, if using for a flat twin and earth cable you take out the washer for the circular cable and replace it with one with a hole that's specially shaped for f t & e.
Thanks! A suggestion for a follow up would be how to make the knock hole smaller when for example, you decide to remove a plastic conduit tube containing a cable and after the fact yoiu change your mind and decide to remove the tube and just run wiring through the knockout hole which is then too large. How do you clamp the wires at the outlet box?
Great video thanks for posting 👍
Masterseal does for into big plastic box without opening the hole up. Just push harder, or put some silicone on it. Tighter fit will give better protection.
if the plastic box don't have a knock out in the back, can I simply drill a hole? I'm aware that I'll need a cable clamp. I already have the appropriate one.
And the size of the rubber grommet? 20mm 30mm?
How do I join two back boxes with knock outs side by side
Knock out the steel or plastic making sure they're symmetric for the incoming wire. If it's metal back box's make sure you put in rubber grommets. You need to make sure the face plate of each socket have enough clearance from one to the next.
Can I use electric tape instead of a rubber grommet? I’m only using one knock out.
VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU 😊
