    I shop my own home at least once a year. I take down all my art work all my decorative pieces and put lay them out in a separate room. Then I rearrange my furniture a bit. I then go back to my stash and redecorate with my own things. Family and friends always think that I’m always buying new things.

    I decluttered my whole house, so I don't have a lot of extra things other than holiday decor. One thing that has been very helpful for me is to WAIT until I find exactly what I want. I used to not wait, and this would result in having "something" that would eventually end up getting upgraded to something else I liked better. So, now I just wait until I get exactly the right thing.

    Random comment here but just wanna say that shirt color is very nice on you 👍
    This color is a shade I don’t even think of much or see for clothes. It’s the right amount of brown and orange and rust color to it

    Reynard your videos are awesome, I’m going to ask if you would please do a video on a topic I’ve never seen on any decorating channel - how to decorate rooms with radiators! I have a Victorian flat with a radiator in every room and they’re never in a good place! I don’t know if it’s ok to hide the radiator behind drapes, is it ok to cover the radiator, should I just have it painted the same colour as the wall, can I move them. I have many questions and you always give sound advice - here’s hoping!

    we just finished a big remodel of our first-floor space. The 90s era furnishings and decor will need replacing. For now, I am shopping my home and reusing different items to freshen it a bit. We have just spent a LOT of money on the construction, electrical, finishes, etc. and I feel the need to just not spend a whole lot for a while.

    Hi Reynard, thanks so much for always making useful content. I'm struggling to find good options for shoe rack or shoe bench in Sydney Australia. I bought an apartment recently (1 bedroom), and I'm trying to avoid needing to mount it on a wall since I am not really good with handiwork. Would you have any suggestions? Hoping to find a not too bulky one since my space is limited.

    one more thing to factor into the prioritizing: how long can you/your living partners deal with the updating process if it’s more involved. i did a kitchen makeover that was high priority to me, but it took weeks and my husband was not about it.

  • @BTMovieSecondChannel

    Does somebody have an advice for matching lights in a room? I heard Reynard say that it's better to not exactly match furniture. Does the same apply to lights? Currently, I have the IKEA BLASVERK table lamp and I really like the style. They also have a BLASVERK pendant light following the same design language.
    Is it okay to have a bigger pendant light of the same style in a single room? In my tests, it looks cohesive and nice, but I wonder if it might also be considered to be boring (or after a while).

    • @reynardlowell
      @reynardlowell  Місяць тому +4

      Haha it’s not that hard of a rule. It’s just with matching furniture, those packages always come in a set of 3 or 5 or more and it’s very hard to do anything else when the whole room is filled with the same stuff.
      You should go for it if it looks nice!

    • @BTMovieSecondChannel
      @BTMovieSecondChannel Місяць тому +1

      @@reynardlowell Yes, good point. And furniture also takes up much more space than lights. This is just two lights being in the same design language. But if a table, closet and tv furniture piece are very similar, it will take up much more visible space. Thanks for you fast comment :)

    Trash picking and Thrift stores! Find which thrift stores have good prices-- some are almost as expensive as new. Choose your theme/mood ahead of time and buy accordingly. You can get a ton of decor without spending much at all.
    For furniture, trash picking is your best bet. We've gotten a lot of great furniture for free this way. To update their look, give them a light sanding and repaint, then change the hardware (handles etc). A palm sander and airless sprayer are fairly cheap and save a lot of time.
    If you have a lot of trash picked furniture of different kinds and styles, painting them the same color and matching their hardware makes them look like they were from the same set.

      Absolutely love getting free stuff from the side of the road lol. My solid wood TV stand was being thrown out by someone, I managed to refinish it and it looks incredibly good / high end now. I also have some recliners from the 50’s that are incredibly unique and will go perfectly in my sitting room once cleaned up. People throw out too much

    Horticulturalist here. Plant smaller plants instead of bigger ones. Because they're younger when you plant them, they will be more accustomed to the soil you plant them in, resulting in better mature form. Also, the difference between bug and small plants is usually just 2-3 growing seasons.

    Hi Lowell. I appreciate your videos, but have to confess that the apartments you showcase tend to look mostly the same and it would be interesting to see you explore a purer concept, more towards the style of John Pawson. One way to save on a limited budget is not worrying about fillling the space above the couch with artwork. Most people fill it with printed "artwork" anyway and it always strikes me as a wrong place to display artwork you value.

    • @mr.beckett8230
      @mr.beckett8230 Місяць тому

      @joaofeiteira6309 What would you suggest to “fill” that space with instead? Or if not filling it, how to make it not look so dull.
      That’s my current struggle. I don’t like the artwork from Home goods, Etsy, etc. But I come home every day wanting something there!

    • @joaofeiteira6309
      @joaofeiteira6309 Місяць тому

      @@mr.beckett8230 I personally prefer nothing above the sofa, as it increases the perceived height of the space in a small apartment, but installing molding on the wall seems like a good compromise between having nothing and having large artwork
