I have a watercolour of an industrious sea harbour where I used to live. A pastel picture of the Oxford skyline done by a friend’s mother and a beautiful dish made by a potter I used to work with. Then at Christmas I get a montage of cards out which I’ve collected over the years and have been painted by friends following art courses in retirement. All lovely snowy scenes of their houses! All valued so much more than commercial tatt. If you’re not so lucky with creative friends, you could always get a banana and tape it to the wall. 😉

Thank you so much for all these ideas and the pictures to illustrate. Very inspiring. Apart from the first one: I never got the thing about having so many pillows on a bed. Whether in a 5 stars hotel or at home, these just bother me so much as I have to remove them all to keep just the ones I need to rest and sleep. And what a pain to tidy the room!

I just wish a 10' x 14' would _fit_ in my bedroom, lol.
But really it was my choice, so I can't complain. 🙃 I took the smaller room and made the big one into the guest room so I could fit a big bed and a reading nook for guests to have their own space. I don't need a reading nook - I literally have an entire library. 🙂

Switched to an Emma mattress and pillows about 3 months ago, and we've been loving it. No backpain anymore, and you don't feel your partner moving when they roll over. We had really old crappy mattresses, so anything would've been an upgrade tbh😅
But we'll probably get one for the spare bedroom as we have people over quite often.

Renyard, bedrooms are inherently boxy. First the bedroom is a big box. The bed is a big box, the dressers, also big boxes, windows rectangles, etc. I find the only good and easiest way to introduce a varied form and add interest, is in the nightstands. Of course round nightstands with a drawer. They make a world of difference and a big plus is that there are not corners to scrape yourself in the middle of the night. Most people don't have the room for a rounded "slipper chair", but the only other way is to also add a chair with a very curved lines, if there is room.
The bed is the focal point of the room. If the headboard it a little bland or not interesting above the bed, artwork seems to be perfect above the bed. If you are worried about it falling on you, then there are always tapestries, or any fabric or otherwise very lightweight wall hanging so that won't be a problem.
    Thanks.

As a person who does not like to have a pendant light hanging above themselves while sleeping, it is really tough for me to think of ideas for which ceiling light to pick for my bedroom. For exampe, using only two ambient lights without a ceiling light, makes the bedroom too dark to properly find things while getting up at a dark winter morning. So I would really appreciate new ideas!
