One of the best things about living in a Chinese village is being able to experience all these unique regional customs that you'll never see in the city. This was definitely one of my favorites!

    我小时候在我的老家无锡,也有这样的习俗,叫丢炮梁(记得是这个叫法),就是上完最后一根梁站在屋顶把各式小糕点撒下去,村民邻居们在下面抢,有雪片糕,松糕,小笼馒头,糖果,橘子,甚至硬币,江南多雨,印象中每次去抢炮梁都是在雨后,抢到的糕点零食上面都粘了泥。

      在中国浙江通常每个村子里都这种专门做厨师来做这样的宴席。主人家会聘请这样的农村厨师,然后一起是市场买菜。帮厨的人通常是附近里花钱雇佣的同村或者隔壁村庄的人。

    • @lujack-sr9fh
      @lujack-sr9fh 4 місяці тому

      你的描述不正确,农村传统的做法是邻居和亲属们帮忙做菜办酒席。只是现在大家越来越忙碌,如果主家有钱,手头比较宽裕,就会请餐饮店的大厨帮忙做。在偏远的农村还是自家人做的多,在沿海富裕的农村可能就是请大厨居多,不能一概而论的。

    This video makes me homesick. I haven't travelled back to my hometown, where my parents and relatives still live, for nearly 3 years. The scenery, and the style of the houses, and the style of the village are so similar to those of my hometown. We also have a piece of bamboo grove in front of our house. The custom to celebrate the main beam's setup is exactly the same as we have in my hometown. Unfortunately, I haven't been in such a celebration for, maybe decades. And, the feast, is also just like what we usually have in my hometown. It's Yuexi County of Anhui (安徽岳西). You may visit there some day. It's quite similar to rural Zhejiang, but you may still find some difference and interesting things easily.

    The people of your village are China's traditional "peasant class" and it looks like they're living pretty well. Totally different from the poor rural farms I saw when I first visited China 20 years ago, and even better off than my last visit in 2018. Is your village typical of other rural communities you visited? Even after seeing China's development with my own eyes, it's hard to believe the speed of progress. Truly epic.

    Watching this Vlog reminds me of the poem by Kipling and a western saying. "East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet..." and "The tie that binds". Except in this case, the village is telling us that it is really "The Bun or Bao that binds"!!!😂. The tradition of throwing buns and food off the balcony and having a communal gathering goes such a long way in bringing harmony and comaradarie to the villagers. How nice it would be if the West and East can take a lesson from this village. Katherine, you must be happy to be so accepted by the village judging from that very personal and "tailored" well wishes from, I assume, the owner of the house! Wonderful vlog as usual...Thank you!!!!❤

    The village is located near the top of the mountain covered by bamboo forest.
    My relatives have built 3-5 stories individual homes around the village similar to what you show in the vlog.
    My relatives extended extraordinary care and the best hospitality to all of us visiting from kuching, Borneo. This is our first trip back to our “Fong” village since my grandfather left for Borneo in the early 1990.

    What a lovely and crazy custom of building new houses!
    Btw regarding bamboo culture among artists and literature lovers there is a famous poem written by 蘇東坡 :
    詩歌首四句「寧可食無肉,不可居無竹。 無肉令人瘦、無竹令人俗。」 基本已述說了古人認為竹子的重要性,沒有肉食並不打緊,但沒有竹子,就會令人變得庸俗,可見在古時,文人墨客對竹子背後的於寓意非常重視。 thanks for sharing 😊

    This is really a wide tradition in Zhejiang,Jiangsu and Shanghai. When I was a little boy, we have the same custom in Shanghai to throw buns and Zhongzi when a new building completes... The dinner is called beam wine (上梁酒). 😀

    It's so real and so dreamlike at the same time! Are there birds in a bamboo forest? What sounds come out from it? Is it fragrant? Because, we have like "bamboo scented" things... What an awesome view!!!

    • @kats_journey_east
      @kats_journey_east  8 місяців тому +5

      yes there are birds but not as many as a "regular forest" because there's less plant diversity. have yet to notice any particular fragrance, I'll pay more attention next time 😂😂
