Among the RE twin cylinder engines, Kawasaki Verseys 650, Z650 and Z650RS that I have ridden, the NX500 sounded the best to me. It even generates that lovely pop sound while deceleration.

I have been using 2019 model honda cb500x for daily commuting and long distance touring in the Netherlands for past 7 months. Honda CB500X is well-suited for touring due to its comfortable ergonomics, reliable and efficient engine, good wind protection, and versatile suspension setup. It strikes a balance between performance and comfort, making it a reliable companion for both short trips and extended tours. I can easily cruise on long trips 130 km all day with sufficent amount of power left for overtaking. And i have done trips to germany alps with bigger companions sv650,moto morini 650 and few bigger engines. I can very easily cope up with them because of its versatile nature and linear torquey smooth engine.
At What speed it starts heavy vibrations?, Can we do heavy off roading with it?, Comfortable for long tours? And compared to Benelli trk 502x which one is better?
At the outset thank you for posting an excellent review. I am selling my Triumph Tiger 800 XR to buy the Honda 500 NX. Because i find the Tiger's engine heat unbearable in city stop-go traffic and I stopped enjoying riding. Almost 10 years ago when I bought the Tiger, I was 10 years younger. I did Rajasthan, Ooty, Goa, Tadoba... i loved the adulation of being a Tiger owner, the speed, the bragging rights of BHP, Torque, etc. I went through a temporary phase of buying the BMW 1250GS and the many "reasons" given to me why the Boxer engine does not heat as much as the Tiger. I almost bought the 1250GS. But then, i asked myself WHY AM I NOT RIDING? Engine heat, weight were reasons. I took a pause. Checked out the Versys 650 and the Honda 500 NX the same day. I loved the 500 NX because there's no engine heat (my biggest problem), the weight management is simply brilliant, the power and accelaration is adequate for my need (i am 56), the engine is smooth like satin, braking is excellent, the front suspension travel does not sink each time i apply the brakes and the exhaust note is sweet. On Indian highway roads, on a 2-wheeler, a safe speed would be 80 KMPH and the NX500 can easily sustain 120-130 KMPH without the engine feeling strained. The ergonomics for long distance as well as city rides is just perfect for me (5'8"). I only wish the NX500 price tag was slightly lower but being a CBU (made in Thailand) the taxes are higher. I think i found my new motorcycle and hopefully a new companion for the roads. Wishing safe and enjoyable rides to all fellow riders.
Same issue i had on my Triumph 900 Rally Pro the damn heat from the engine it almost burn my legs in the last summer so i sold it and purchased a Honda 500 NX in may and no heat issue at all on that perfect bike and now i have drive it 100 kilometers so fare and it is a very good bike!
Is it really true? No heat ?? I mean I am fed up with engine heat from my Himalayan in peak traffic, and scared to go for twin cylinder upgrade. Why spend so much money if you can't enjoy the ride.

If i buy the ADV 390 instead of NX 500...what would i miss ? The power figures are close for both of the motorcycles...but there's significant difference in the torque. I dont understand the point of upgrading from a single cylinder to a 2-cylinder motorcycle when i compare the power figures and all. You also checked the top end of this NX 500 and its similar to that of the ADV 390. I am confused as so many things between these motorcycles appear similar to me(maybe only to me!)...btw i never rode a 2-cylinder motorcycle. Please clarify me Strell 😅. Asking as a motorcycle enthusiast... looking forward to your answer!
Bro, Twin Cylinder has better low end compared to something like a ADV 390. This happens cause these engines make a pretty good amount of torque very early in their rev range
The confusion you are facing is not based upon the mere facts and figures, rather it is deeper than that. A test ride will clear most of the confusion.
close your eyes and go for adv 390. you wont miss much. ofcourse, there are differences in terms of engine reliability. this will easily last 1lak kms. braking will be better. so unless you are going to ride 1 lak kms there is no point buying this bike. you can save lot of bucks.

So you say the suspension on 310GS is smoother than this? I was actually considering the 310GS for its supple suspension. Power and all is good enough for my needs(barely cross 100/120 on two wheeler). But this bike somehow got me all excited and I hoped it to have a smoother suspension on bad toads compared to 310GS
The GS is not a good bike, do check some comparison videos. The KTM 390 ADV is much better than it. It's just due to the BMW badging that it sells. I'm not discouraging you from buying it, just suggesting to do some more research.
@@rajendragangurde4577 ktm suspension is pretty bad compared to the GS. I agree the GS engine isn’t as smooth but for me suspension is one of the primary requirements and GS excels in that area this side of 4L

NX is not an upgrade from 390 interms of performance. but its an upgrade for refinement, comfort, quality and reliability. you wont get sudden adrenaline rush ride like on 390. its torque curve is liene130-140 solo is not a problem, it doesnt have quick shifter or blipper.

@@sharathvasudev I get it but I'm more than happy with power in Duke 390. I'm not happy with the frequent fuel stops and wind blast etc on the highway. Bit more wind protection, Increased range and a bit more refinement in engine would suffice. That's part of the reason I'm even considering the nx500. The most reasonably priced versys 650 is apparently heavy and tall. I'm planning to go and check it out, hoping it's manageable given my height (5'7).
Hey, thanks for the review, I have a bizarre question, I own a really good city bike & planning to buy a Honda for occasional touring - one that can comfortably & confidently cruise between 100-110kmph, made well and is reliable for next 10 years of touring, should I get the highness 350 & save money? Or should I get the NX500? I know it’s different class and category, but I expanded my requirements.
If you are planning for touring, I would suggest getting a roomier motorcycle with good suspension as you will be spending most of your time on your bike cruising at a constant speed after clutch and gears usage for transmission. A good plush well damped suspension will save you from the anticipated irregularities of roads and the sudden invisible craters on roads giving you a peace of mind by not shaking your balance and the fear of falling of luggage you would be carrying. Some suggested bikes: himalayan(wait for the tubeless spokes trim), triumph scrambler 400x, vstorm 250, adventure 390(wait for the updated one).
@@rv6569 Dhavald is correct. The CB350 is a long stroke bike and it is happiest at around 90 kph. If you ride it at 120 kph you are riding it at it's max capacity so the engine will be very strained at those speeds and they are not cruising speeds.
I recently took the test ride of this NX500 in Bangalore. I can completely relate to what you have said. It is indeed a bit laggy specially when the engine is reving low. And yes, the suspension could have come with an adjustable set up like the previous cb500x. One question to you @strell - If you need to choose between this nx500 and the cb350 keeping comfort as the only sole parameter, which one would you choose?

The front sode looks that way, because Honda has made some cost cutting to make the naked and fairing version use same type of headlight design... The naked version is not available in India for now i guess...

If they wanted to make it e20 compliant , they would have made and pasted a sticker on the tank saying so. E20 compliance has got nothing to do with this being a CBU.

@@rv6569 normally when we say service cost, it only includes oil, filters, and other consumables and labour. on any bike, it will be costlier if need of other spare parts changes.
@@ajinkyakore2455 NX has relaxed twin cylinder with better mid range. so throttle operation by rider will be milder on NX. also the rpm at particular speed will be different. NX runs 100kmph at around 4.5K rpm. at the same 100kmph, speed 400 is at 6k rpm, 390 is at 5.5k rpm.
If Honda did what Aprilia pulled out, this would have eaten ADV390s and Himalayan for breakfast.... BTW do you have any idea when will be the CB650R 2024 version going to launch in India??
Accessories are crazy expensive. The petty center stand cost around 15k. The small piece of rubber on tank (tank pad) cost somewhere around 4.2k. Besides, people are paying some 5.5-7.5k for the first service where you don't even have much work. Why Honda.....why !!!!
Very nice review sir but again when talking about the price I have to really disagree with you on that front,a 500cc motorcycle at 7.7 lakhs even if it's a twin cylinder makes no sense,in the Indian market we are limited so if we look from an options standpoint yes,but in a broader sense the price still doesn't justify itself I think
Tbh the bike should have had a little more power around 5-6 bhp more, a cruise control system only then the price would have been justified. The bike feels underpowered on straight highways.
should keep two bikes at least. one big tourer/adv (with cruise control) and other small street fighter. I see 500/650cc segment is jack of city and highway usage. trying to fulfill both duties make them not best tool for anything. Bikes of around 500cc can go 150kph but keeping it there for long is not a comfortable experience.

310gs has worst engine I ever experienced. threw away after a test ride.

No 12V charger won't come as standard fitment. It's in the accessory list, also the crash guards are available for 36k

you should upgrade to 650 to 750 cc. no point buying something in same league you already have. it will make your garage redundant

CB350rs. Both are reliable. but Highness is cheaper to maintain and buy. you can cruise at 110-120 kmhr. engine will last 1 lak kms.
350s are city bikes. although it can do more than 100kph it is not a good experience. even a scooter can do 100kph but you know what I mean.

NX500, for sure. It's more comfortable in any angle. Be it seating, handling, or cruising.
cb350 suspension is too stiff. its very hard to manage on our road.

No. dont change anything. you will lose warranty. Just enjoy the stock filter.
Please don't do that. I don't think there is a need of an after market air filter for a bike churning out 20 bhp power. Stock one is good enough.

Gearbox is a bit clunky when it runs on honda oil. If you change the oil, say Castrol power 1 ultimate 10w40, it will get smoother. I have the 500x

If they wanted to make it e20 compliant , they would have made and pasted a sticker on the tank saying so. E20 compliance has got nothing to do with this being a CBU.

@@rv6569 normally when we say service cost, it only includes oil, filters, and other consumables and labour. on any bike, it will be costlier if need of other spare parts changes.

you will feel underpowered on highway. on nx you never feels its weight and not top heavy like versys. NX is very easy for daily commute too.

@@ajinkyakore2455 NX has relaxed twin cylinder with better mid range. so throttle operation by rider will be milder on NX. also the rpm at particular speed will be different. NX runs 100kmph at around 4.5K rpm. at the same 100kmph, speed 400 is at 6k rpm, 390 is at 5.5k rpm.

This is a CBU so it doesn't comply with the emission norms and so no E20 sticker.

They have resources and all the moolah, still they will not do it because they are money minded.
Accessories are crazy expensive. The petty center stand cost around 15k. The small piece of rubber on tank (tank pad) cost somewhere around 4.2k. Besides, people are paying some 5.5-7.5k for the first service where you don't even have much work. Why Honda.....why !!!!

Very nice review sir but again when talking about the price I have to really disagree with you on that front,a 500cc motorcycle at 7.7 lakhs even if it's a twin cylinder makes no sense,in the Indian market we are limited so if we look from an options standpoint yes,but in a broader sense the price still doesn't justify itself I think

Tbh the bike should have had a little more power around 5-6 bhp more, a cruise control system only then the price would have been justified. The bike feels underpowered on straight highways.

should keep two bikes at least. one big tourer/adv (with cruise control) and other small street fighter. I see 500/650cc segment is jack of city and highway usage. trying to fulfill both duties make them not best tool for anything. Bikes of around 500cc can go 150kph but keeping it there for long is not a comfortable experience.

Nope. No chance of a price slash now. This is an imported bike so taxes will be high. The earlier bike was priced even higher than this which is why it didn't sell.
