@toobenjittoquit7711 oh yeah, i rided 12500km from april to october 2024, is the most refined revision of the cb500x lineup, not the cheapest, not many fancy accessories but everything is well balanced, well engineered and well built, feels quite agile and nimble (compared to chinese 500cc rivals), maybe deserve more top end power but overall is a great package. No problem even with 800km of highway in one day, with average highway speed of 140kmh. The very only issues is the windshield not suitable for fairly tall riders because cause severe buffeting , so i removed the windshield the very first day and everything went fine. Suspensions works quite good for the price point, beign progressive in compression and nicely damped in the rebound, if you are not seeking blasting accellerations and 200+ kmh speeds, is a very good motorcycle to travel around, with the plus of not beign overly heavy or too bulky.
Just a shame that Honda only offers cruise control as an option on their larger bikes, so this and the Transalp etc have to go with out. It's annoying as the smaller bikes are still great touring machines. I'm a current CB500x owner and its the reason I will have to look elsewhere when I decide to upgrade.

Nice review. Thank you. NX500 ? Hilarious. It’s a CB500X with an iPad mini and an uglier front end. Same engine, frame, seat, exhaust etc etc. it’s even got the same peg / handlebar vibes over 75 mph. Nothing wrong with that, the CB500X is a totally excellent machine. Shame on Honda for trying to pass this off as a new model.

I have had my CB500X for 4 years now, love the bike, this looks like essentially a better version with HTCS, a better dash and new clothes. hard to top the CB.
Is the riding position the same as the previous 2022 CB500X? It looks the same, but not sure if they've changed bar height, position, seat etc. Excellent video as always!
Hello Dan, is there any posibilities that you could get 2024 cbr600rr for a testride when they some day arrive in UK? And do a little review on it? Thank you in advanse.
I’m sure they can squeeze a few more BHP out of that motor or increase its capacity slightly for very little cost then market two different power variants thus appealing to an even wider market. Imagine a 550 or 600 with 60hp or more I’m sure it would sell.
It's basically a small Transalp. No reason to make the NX bigger when you have the Transalp that's exactly that. The CB500X and the NX500 are limited to 47hp on purpose, and that's what people forget when reviewing these bikes. They're A2 bikes, that's how they're marketed. A2 is limited at 47 horsepower, so obviously they can't make it any faster. These two models are dominating the A2 market, and that's exactly their purpose.
I have the cb500x.. with this bike they have added a lot of electronics that are totally unnecessary. Breaking is ok but we don't need a bunch of crap that is always not what you need at the time... I'll just be keeping my 2023.
It’s funny. Here in New Zealand we only have two roads that are 110kph (68 mph), everything else is 100 (62) or slower so even this little 500 will go way faster than I’ll ever go on a public road
Man, one day I will be riding these pretty hedgerow roads in England. I am in the prairies of Canada and I would be terrified about wildlife jumping out anytime. But it doesn't seem to be a problem. These kind of bikes is what I actually want, they will unfortunately kill you on long north American highways. Guess I have to keep my old GS 1200 for as long as I can get it upright.
As a Life long Royal enfield fan. I got to say there is something about how this bike looks have got to me. I haven't ridden it, but my preference for next touring bike has switched from Himalayan 450 to this one purely on aesthetics. I usually prefer classic looks but there is something about this. I cannot even explain why I like how this looks, just one of those things. A bit like saying my type of woman is A and falling for B.
Had a look at these in the flesh yesterday and was quite impressed. At the price point the only real competition I can see is the new Himalayan, but that’s an off road bike. Saying that the cb500l is probably the closest competitor; some good offers on those as it’s the least popular of the Honda 500 series
I want to like the CB500l but just something about it's looks, for me (although most scramblers are a bit off in my mind), put me off. Bigger scramblers look alright.
Bought an Updated 2016 Model [Thunder Road Cardiff] Brand new and had to sell because of Limited Mobility but SAD to see her go. Great little bike and Honda Won;t break down. Now had my back sorted [Chiropractor] I;m thinking of getting a New one SOON.
Great real world review Dan. Have you seen / rode the new Voge DS525X which has a stroked version of the CB500 engine. This looks an excellent proposition from the few reviews posted so far. Lots more equipment than the NX, a bit more oomph from the engine, a low seat height and £5.5k. It would be good if someone could do a comparison between the Voge & the Honda.
honda just patented its design for the upcoming 350cc adventure bike. The engine is from its predecessors CB 350, highness CB 350 and CB 350 RS. The design resembles the himalayan 411 which is a big success in indian markets. If honda had placed this bike's price in correct segment like its competitors in india we would have seen this bike more often on indian roads. It's price is of double the cost of himalayan 450 in india which is a major drawback for this bike. other than that this is a awesome bike. i love the weight distribution in this bike and handles so easy and smooth.
yes ,meanwhile the 500x is the same bike is not wise to make anything stupid.tbh i like both models the same so i will go for the new one only because its new
This has to be in the running for the best all rounder. Shops, work commute, weekend scratch, foreign touring. Comfy, bomb proof 500, 75mpg. I mean why would you buy a versys 650 over this ? Or a v strom 650 ? The NX build quality is certainly better than the suzukis, as is the screen and the versys wont get anywhere near 75-80 mpg. Im struggling between an ADV 350 or this. The underseat storage on the ADV is a big sacrifice. Mostly il be commuting to work with a few weekend rides and 1 or 2 foreign tours. Tough choice especially when the nx isnt too far behind the mpg of the ADV
I currently own a CB500 2019. Does the 2024 come with a centre stand. I had to get one put on my bike together with a Givi 56 litre topbox. Is it worth the extra dosh for an upgrade?
Great review! 👍 The information about the vibration levels at motorway speeds is what interests me at the moment. I have a super vibrator, cb125 R at the moment and as soon as I get my full license I will buy something that vibrates as little as possible! 😂
its a lovely bike ,comfort, safe, beautiful bike.i will buy one very soon and i will give away my 300 cc scooter and my tdm .since the nx500 is pretty good for everything.city ,small tours, etc. for me that beauty seems to be the best choice for the roads and the small distance travels at greece.wonderful bike
Why quite heavy bike? I'd rather say it's on the mid-low range. Of course it's not as light as a KTM 390 Adventure, but it's less than 200kg wet. A lot of naked bikes are heavier than that; not to mention very popular adv bikes.
I tried this bike and as much as I wanted to like it I just couldn't get on with the thumpy engine,I wouldn't like to do motor way miles on it as I found there was to much vibration. What's your opinion
It’s on my short list for my first big bike, but I keep comparing it to the Skoda Yeti; wonderful specs and all round capability, but it’s missing something.
Nice review. I am looking at downsizing in the future as finding the GSX1250 ( an awesome bike that I love) a lump to push around as the years sadly advance on me.. The 500 would keep me riding many more years. The only observation I have as a solo tourer is how 'stressed' the bike feels at legit road speeds (70mph) without getting tiresome.. typical speeds i ride at when abroad.. I saw on your video (21:45) at 64mph doing 5K revs in 6th... other reviews sort of indicate over 70 not its best place..
I’m a little miffed as to why Honda is scrapping the CB500X and moving it to a NX500? Doesn’t seem to have fundamentally changed the bike. (Made some things much nicer - I’ll admit) Saying that these have always been excellent series of bikes - I think Honda knocked it out of the park with the 500. I’m a 100% a Honda rider and can comfortably see one in my future. (Once I am forced to give up Honda super fours)
Can't go wrong with the Versys. 60 + bhp.. very good brakes (Nissin ). Very very comfy. No vibration. Handles great, and just a lovely thing to ride. Try one of each, then decide.
Yeah cb500x in green would be my pick I do have a 2019 model so has been improved but now they have released this model I would worry about owning a short lived discontinued cb500x in green improved suspension and twin rotors didn’t really need this front end fairing which with upper crash protection looks iffy in my opinion, on the fence sorry Honda
450mt seems a very good bike and cheap.i agree.but i dont trust much the chinese brands.there are many chances to pay those 2000 euros of price difference at near future .nobody knows tho
Just need to brag about my seat on the Speed Twin. It’s the optional comfort seat but the bike isn’t really a tourer. BUT I just came back from a 700mile tour and the bike and seating was just Awesome! Would a Tiger do it better even the 660, of course they would but… still dang amazed at what a modern classic can do. Nice up. Third bike Will be either the bike you just rode OR the Tiger 660… yes more expensive but the Honda clocks are Way better than the Tiger 660
@@EnglishbikerdanI totally knows that but it’s not enough. My 350 in its day was 40bhp. My daughter had a suzuki gladius A2 compliant (suzuki supplied A2 ecu) and when passed her test put the original ecu back in backto 70bhp. It’s utterly pathetic
It's interesting that you said it has very little engine vibration. Rocket Man said he wished Honda improved the vibration since they updated it from the CB500X.
Rocket man irritates me. He looks for perfection in every bike he rides and nit picks the slightest fault. He rides a 70 bhp bike and bellyaches he wish it had 100 bhp. In reality he doesn’t commute on his bikes and rarely tours any further than the Algarve with his old fart mates on their pristine under used bikes en route to the nearest Starbucks.

I went for the Himalayan and came home with this one.
It isn’t even a contest, this Honda is way way better.
Nice review. Unfortunately it seems like Honda sees the US as a after thought and this bike is not available here.
Are these basically the suv's of bikes? Look a bit off roady but aren't really 😊
for gravel roads I'd add a bash plate and mudguard extender and I reckon it'd do quite nicely. the lightness and mileage are big plusses for me.
Nice to see an old-school 180° crank for a change. Not every parallel twin has to pretend it's a V twin 😆
I have a 750 Italian V twin. The 180 deg firing order of the 500 is silky smooth compared to the former.
180 degree is authentic Japanese design, a lot of people don't know that
Here, here. Good comments, gentlemen. 👍
i like my v twin
I like my 270 degree. It’s about the sound. But still wouldn’t mind the Honda 180.
Hope you can get back on two wheels soon!
Great review. Thanks😊
So its 30inch from the inside leg till the ground barefoot right? Just to clear the definition of inseam. And whats ur shoe size uk? Thanks
Use Barkbusters hand guards,Invest some quality skid plate and centre stand..
I don't have the bike yet.
honda just patented its design for the upcoming 350cc adventure bike. The engine is from its predecessors CB 350, highness CB 350 and CB 350 RS. The design resembles the himalayan 411 which is a big success in indian markets. If honda had placed this bike's price in correct segment like its competitors in india we would have seen this bike more often on indian roads. It's price is of double the cost of himalayan 450 in india which is a major drawback for this bike. other than that this is a awesome bike. i love the weight distribution in this bike and handles so easy and smooth.
...but is it any fun? I mean, as opposed to "does the job". Thanks Dan, safe rides. 👍🏻
I bought last generation of 500X last year, to be honest not much different this NX. Waiting for the Transalp for upgrade ;) Great review as always 😁
yes ,meanwhile the 500x is the same bike is not wise to make anything stupid.tbh i like both models the same so i will go for the new one only because its new
This has to be in the running for the best all rounder.
Sadly not, it's an optional extra. Not too pricey though.
Great review! 👍
The information about the vibration levels at motorway speeds is what interests me at the moment.
I have a super vibrator, cb125 R at the moment and as soon as I get my full license I will buy something that vibrates as little as possible! 😂
I don't like that it's just a 500 cc bike but damn i like this design soo much 😂 wish there was a 600 cc version of this 😂
nice little bike..its in my realm too 😊
its a lovely bike ,comfort, safe, beautiful bike.i will buy one very soon and i will give away my 300 cc scooter and my tdm .since the nx500 is pretty good for everything.city ,small tours, etc.
for me that beauty seems to be the best choice for the roads and the small distance travels at greece.wonderful bike
@@Hades32 sounds lovely mate. enjoy!
Patiently waiting for the 2024 Honda CB650R video... 👀
Why quite heavy bike? I'd rather say it's on the mid-low range. Of course it's not as light as a KTM 390 Adventure, but it's less than 200kg wet. A lot of naked bikes are heavier than that; not to mention very popular adv bikes.
So do we expect to see discounts on the CB 500X? I quite like the green one.
yes ,honda already took it at 7300 ,at least here at greece
Green was 2022 color. That is long gone
I very nearly bought one as my first biggish bike but ended up with a street twin
I tried this bike and as much as I wanted to like it I just couldn't get on with the thumpy engine,I wouldn't like to do motor way miles on it as I found there was to much vibration. What's your opinion
It’s on my short list for my first big bike, but I keep comparing it to the Skoda Yeti; wonderful specs and all round capability, but it’s missing something.
what mic did you plug into your Ace Pro? Im having trouble capturing audio while riding big time. Btw, in the discription it says GoPro Hero 11
How can they make traction control so easy to switch off on this yet such a faff on the transalp? Its like there are two completely development teams
Right?!
5:29 I really hoped it's just a tad lighter...
Good looking bike. I think it is prettier than CB500X
I’m a little miffed as to why Honda is scrapping the CB500X and moving it to a NX500?
Doesn’t seem to have fundamentally changed the bike. (Made some things much nicer - I’ll admit)
Saying that these have always been excellent series of bikes - I think Honda knocked it out of the park with the 500.
I’m a 100% a Honda rider and can comfortably see one in my future. (Once I am forced to give up Honda super fours)
Be interesting to see how this compares with tye cfmoto 450mt
I prefer the look of the CB500X. Depends on how much extra theyd charge for this.
The crash bars spoil the look, no need for them if you are NOT going off road.
Strange seeing her with cast wheels rather than wire spokes. Your gloves are sexy AF 😄❤
I’m debating between this motorcycle and the 650 Versys.
Can't go wrong with the Versys. 60 + bhp.. very good brakes (Nissin ). Very very comfy. No vibration. Handles great, and just a lovely thing to ride. Try one of each, then decide.
Yeah cb500x in green would be my pick I do have a 2019 model so has been improved but now they have released this model I would worry about owning a short lived discontinued cb500x in green improved suspension and twin rotors didn’t really need this front end fairing which with upper crash protection looks iffy in my opinion, on the fence sorry Honda
i like it, the look i mean
if they put 270° crank same as transalp this is might good
Dan Dan the biker man, sticks his finger wherever he can !
Good lord, that's an odd comment
Where did the term colourway come from ? The bike has a specific colour. White.
Colourway refers to a design/range of colours in which something is available.
How is it on the highway?
Great!
One good looking bike.
Hope you get to ride the CF Moto 450 MT.
Seems like stiff competition against this in price and specs...
450mt seems a very good bike and cheap.i agree.but i dont trust much the chinese brands.there are many chances to pay those 2000 euros of price difference at near future .nobody knows tho
Do you plan to review the 2024 CB500 as well Dan?
Edit: for those wondering the fork travel on the NX500 is 150mm
Yeah got the CB500 coming next.
@@Englishbikerdan Great, looking forward to it. Love your reviews, i find they have the perfect balance between emotion and technicality.
Did you take it off road ?
I did, bit of light green laning.
Wtih many new middle weight model , i kinda wish they made cl500 variant with more rally touch
My original 500 honda twin had 60 bhp not 48 why not keep it at that
A2 license is why.
@@EnglishbikerdanI totally knows that but it’s not enough. My 350 in its day was 40bhp. My daughter had a suzuki gladius A2 compliant (suzuki supplied A2 ecu) and when passed
her test put the original ecu back in backto 70bhp. It’s utterly pathetic
It's interesting that you said it has very little engine vibration. Rocket Man said he wished Honda improved the vibration since they updated it from the CB500X.
A friend of mine do some ECU AFR and tuning…Suprisingly there’s little vibration only even over 80mph
It’s the nature of 180 degree crank engine. A rocking couple is going to have a resonance rpm where vibrations are more prominent.
@@warrenr4 Ha. A bit harsh, but not entirely incorrect :-)
Harley Davidson will give you great vibration to your soul and wallet....
If Honda puts better off road suspension wheels and tires on this model, it will sell like tacos.
Mi like tacos
I see tacos. I eat tacos.
Great review!
Pros:
Price
Apperance & styling
Tubeless
Gps mounting bar
Airfilter access ?
Cons:
No air temprature indicator
No milage to empty indicator
Dash on the small side
No bashplate
Non adjustable wind screen
No wing badge
What is 5 foot 8? It that 172cm?
In my head, 5' is 5x30cm = 150cm and 8" is 20cm so yes, that's about right (12 inches = 1 foot) 🙂
I am interested in the CFMotos 450MT which was just launched. I watched the quick review and it is impressive especially with the 270 deg engine.
communist
yup 😍@@leeinwis
Typed from a device probably made in China. 😂
@@Englishbikerdan 🤭😂
@@Englishbikerdan ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a Taiwanese multinational computer, phone hardware and electronics manufacturer .
So the same bike with higher price! And still no hand and crash guards, engine plate, laguage rack included... Thats insult for me as a consumer. I do off-roading on TET with my cb500x, but next bike I try will be chinese! (450MT, royal 450...) and I just dont care if they broke up.
Have some nostalgic now 😢. Have the cb500x and change for the Hornet. It have an excelent engine, really nice, but have my best time in the 500X. Power is not all. Maybe i change again. 😊
Hey there dan does the cb 500 hornet have more power than the nx 500
Love the bike, but hate the 500 engine as it feels like it's revving higher than it actually is and the vibes are awful.
The most absurd thing is that the nx500 looks better than the new Transalp, which is basicall looks like a cb750. The transalp is worse in every way, apart from the engine.
" ...once you go black..." lol
Its an adv bike???
I'd say ADV inspired road bike.
@@Englishbikerdan too expensive for that then
Transalp offers more for the money
Good bike but should be cheaper
It has not have a back rack
Even the oem you buy doesn't seem practical
You need another 1000€ on extras
trigers me so much 2024, and no usb charger
Yeah it's annoying!
Good thing's against older cb is dash and his maintain direct from handle bar. In my opinion new model look worse than older one. They tried making look like smaller transalp but effect look like boring asian scooter.
