    I’ve been looking online at scamps for myself. This is the first video I found that wasn’t from the manufacturer that doesn’t make it look larger than it is. I think this would be perfect and easy for me to do myself.

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  4 місяці тому +6

      We think it’s perfect for one or two adults. Of course, it will take some careful consideration on how best to use the space available. We took a look at our regular camping gear and came to the realization that a lot of what we packed was simple convenience item type of stuff that we could get along without. It felt good to purge all the gear we carried but did not really NEED. I hope you enjoy whatever camper you end up with.

    Scamp has definitely done some improvements the last few years. One area that need improvement, is needing a pump to drain the shower and having separate gray and black drain connections. Having a tankless water heater is really nice, our Casita trailer has a tank type water heater. I really like the tree shaped support for the overhead cabinet, versus the twisted metal that they used to use. We have the metal top on our stove, I agree with you, the glass is much nicer. Scamp has far more build configurations than Casita, Casita doesn’t even offer a 13’ model anymore. I like your trailer, very cool.

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  Рік тому

      Yes, a gravity type shower pan drain and separate grey and black tank connections would be some improvements that Scamp could make. We like the tree shapes cabinet support too. We did not even know Casita stopped producing the 13’ trailer! Thank you so much!

    I like Scamps but for the money I'm underwhelmed and glad we rebuilt a Trilluim from scratch. That Group 27 battery will not get you very far in boondocking particularly based on the power needs of that trailer -aircon, fridge waterpump, furnace. You will need to consider upgrading to at least 200ah lithuim battery plus solar panels to even last a couple days boondocking

    There are many things I like about these small lightweight campers.
    SAFETY CONCERNS
    For this particular model I have some safety concerns as well as design suggestions.
    From a common sense perspective, I noticed the potential for deadly harm to occur. My unsafe situations observations are in the order as they appeared in video.
    1) The outdoor shower is right beside a 120 volt electrical outlet. The threat is electrocution short.
    2) The furnace air intake vent is right beside the exhaust vent. The threat is acute carbon monoxide poisoning.
    3) The height of the electric light in the bathroom has potential for electric shock unless it is waterproof and it is certified safe by the Underwriters Laboratories approved.
    4) The bottom of the cupboard above the stove burner is fiberglass and could melt, drop contents down onto the burner. This is a fire hazzard.
    5) The contents in th cupboard above the burner could catch on fire because no insulation to restrict or abate the heat. Fire hazzard.
    6) When boondocking the camper clean water reservoir should be able to travel full.
    7) The waste tanks surely must be designed to transport wastes to disposal site without compromising integrity. You would not want wastewaters (WW) to contaminate the living space because they couldn't tolerate the WW sloshing around when driving over rough terrain.
    8) It sounded like the on demand hot water heater could be gas powered. Is there an outside exhaust for the hot water heater? If gas, and if not vented, this would make a carbon monoxide poisoning event likely.
    9) Does the carbon monoxide dectector have a battery backup?
    10) Is there a smoke detector. If not, one should be wired in with battery backup.
    11) Make sure that one of the back bed area windows will pop out so you can escape from the camper. I had to escape from our popup camper due to a skunk.
    OTHER POTENTIAL PRODUCT ISSUES & SUGGESTIONS
    A) The moleskin fabric on the shower ceiling will eventually mold, starting at the seams. Try a different type of surface or finish.
    B) I would like for the system lights to turn off in individual areas too. Saves battery charge.
    C) The cupboards should already have a means installed to hold them open.
    D) The table leg is very narrow at the bottom and could potentially poke a hole through the floor. There should be a metal plate immediately below it.
    E) The company should design better supports for the bottom board of the top front cupboard.
    Have fun!

    Not mouse fur, lol… it is lovingly referred to as “rat fur“. :-). And the screens are called “no-seeums” because they stop even the super annoying tiny little flying bugs called “no-seeums” from getting through the screens. And that’s a good thing, because they are as bad as having mosquitoes getting in. And you don’t want to charge your Jackery with that 12 V socket unless you are driving and your house battery is being charged from the vehicle’s alternator. If you plug it in to charge it, you will just drain your house battery just to charge your Jackery (unless when you are stationary, you are plugged into shore power). And that strip that is called “vent” above your refrigerator, is so that the heat produced by the refrigerator has a place to vent out to so it doesn’t overheat.

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  Рік тому +13

      Well, ya that’s how it comes across. They said that they recommended waiting to fill that fresh water tank till you were close to your spot. For example, fill up at the last place you can find potable water before you get to your camping spot instead of when you are leaving your driveway. That makes sense for fuel economy too.

    Cpl suggestions, cover and lock your propane tanks, lock the door to the on demand, before they get stolen. And on demand takes water to run thru for a while before the hot water comes out. Would you be considering Solar panels?

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  Рік тому +2

      Great suggestions. We want to incorporate some type of storage box over the propane tanks too. Good to know it takes some time for the water to heat up on the on-demand. We are going to try solar with our little Jackery when we boondock.

    Not sure if you ever found it but for a toilet seat cover use a bird cage tidy cover which goes on the base of the cage similar to a cockatiel or a budgie cage size and it’s elasticated and waterproof fits on the caves the other way round

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  Рік тому +1

      Well, technically you CAN travel with water in it. Scamp cautions owners to fill the tank as close to possible of their destination to avoid traveling far with the tank full. Obviously, this makes since for weight and fuel economy but it also reduces stress in the two straps (it appears to be plumbers tape) that holds down the tank.

    • @scampchannel
      @scampchannel  9 місяців тому +1

      I hope this translates correctly. There is a water heater. It is a “on demand“ water heater. I pointed it out in the video, there is a panel that opens up on the back left side of the Scamp and the on-demand water heater is inside. There is a water tank. It is a white plastic cube with two metal straps, holding it down. In the video I show the water tank it is under one of the seat cushions beneath a panel. It’s not very big don’t think it would hold more than about 20 gallons. Thank you for your comment!
