Great video! My wife and I have owned our Grizzly Bear Model (Rustic Trails Teardrops) for 3 years and we love it. Small campers are not for everyone. Here is why we went with the Grizzly: 1. We can tow it easily with our Toyota Highlander 2. It fits perfectly in our 2 car garage next to said Highlander so it is only in the weather when we are camping. This alone adds years of life to it. 3. It has everything we need for camping: an air-conditioned, comfortable, safe place to sleep and tons of storage. We also have added a minifridge and a microwave. 4. We camp to be outdoors, not cooped up in a camper all day. 5. Because it is stored in our garage, we can hook the camper up and be on the road in less than 30 minutes which means we camp more often. 6. Because the camper is small, we can camp in spots that larger RVs cannot. Again, small campers are not for everyone. But neither are more expensive, heavier, harder to store, larger RVs.
Great comment and explanations, this is what I like to hear from someone first hand that knows what they are talking about. I also liked the look and size and outlay of the grizzly,it seemed the better option out of all of them for what I would want and reasonably priced too. Best wishes to you and your wife, happy camping to you, from, Auckland, New Zealand.I 👑⭐👍✅❤🙂🙂🙂
This is just exactly what I needed . I am retired and my wife retires this year . Her dream is to travel the country until she dies. Now I can see how we can afford to do it.
FOR ME, the most important item to have in a camper is a toilet with shower. And the 5° - "the Back Packer 2", is the camper trailer that comes closest to my preferences.
Wow, another awesome option. hank you Fantomas! TLove it! Do you know the starting price, I'm not seeing it onside. I know I can contact, but want to avoid incessant calling, too!
Yeah it's weird everyone insist on a galley and bed that takes up your entire floor space and a bunch of other BS but nobody seems to grasp the most bare essential necessities. Literally a toilet and a shower!! Crapping in the woods has a laundry list of issues/dangers BUT for some reason an outdoor kitchen matters more!?!?!? O.o wtf!? You can basically buy a mini grille at Walmart with a tiny folding table and literally fit everything in their grocery bag... You can literally just throw that in your tow vehicle and that's basically gonna do everything a damn galley would normally do for you. People are crazy paying more and or putting in a galley just so it could take up more of the last few inches of space you have left inside your already limited camper... There's gotta be something in the water because people aren't thinking straight... O.o
The pop up options seem way too expensive for what you’re getting. The value for money just isn’t there. You might as well just get yourself a tent and save thousands of dollars if you want a pop up. To me, the whole point of getting a travel trailer is to not have to worry about being exposed to the elements.
I just stumbled on this video, and I'm glad I did. I had no idea there were so many small, towable units out there. The people designing these things are definitely playing with a full deck. Cheers
You should check out the Runaway Camper, made in Florida. There are 3 models- the Range Runner (6x8) the Cool Camp (4x8) the venturist (for off road) and the slice (for motorcycles.) Very affordable and lightweight so can be towed by most vehicles.
These are all excellent videos that are helping me choose what options I need and which ones I just want. In addition it is allowing me to truly understand what it will cost me to get the required options. Good Job Minds Eye Design.
I love what you said about what you need and what you want. Reminds me of my grandfather. He used to always say "what you need and what you want are two different things". Which is so true. Seems like today alot of people worry about what they want more than the necessities that they need. Sorry for blabbing, I just loved your comment about wants and needs. Much love and God Bless ❤💙🦅🇺🇸🙏
In December 2023 I will be fuly retired and looking forward to hitting the open road with my furbaby. I was delighted to know that a couple of the makers are in NC and very near me. This really gave me a new perspective on my future adventures. There is so much to learn, so thanks for the wonderful and detailed information. Great video for the new and mature campers.
Wow...As a first timer just curious about this market (as I near 70!), I was quite frankly most impressed! Who knows, this initial visit could lead to some life changes!
I loved the straight to the point production. Especially the pricing points! I can always look for more detailed reviews on campers that interest me. Could you put together another preview of campers from $10,000 to $15,000?
I'm looking for a small RV, possibly with a toilet, so this list was really helpful! I particularly like the "little guy mini max" and the Sunray mini - thanks for the info.
Some good ideas here. I think I'm going to have to DIY my trailer to get the mix of "musts" & "wannas" that will work for me at a price that won't make me weep...
The Viking and the E-pro are the types i would be interested in. that e-pro seems to have everything, it's light, has big tires, the outdoor kitchen, but comfy indoor bed, with speakers, tv etc. it's one of the few I have seen that has a ceiling mounted AC instead of a regular window mount type AC.
Have you heard what people here on YT have to say about ACs? Ceiling mounts are difficult to repair and can cost thousands. Wall mounts are simple to repair and if they need replacement, it's just hundreds, not thousands. Easy access and easy to install. I forget who, but a top reviewer says every time he does a walkthrough.
I'd like to see more smaller trailers for ONE person, and a dog or 2. Not 5 people. I like the "skylight" option on some I've seen. Where you can see the stars from bed.
These look great! I just wanted to have a small trailer and a step up from my regular tent/car camping. And these fit the bill! Excited to look more into these at my local dealer.
Great video. I just moved into a 28ft Winnebago but would like to visit family all across north America. As a 55+ solo female I don’t want to haul my huge home all over. And camper vans are out of my price range. I had been thinking small camper and looking at the rpod which didn’t make your list. Thanks for giving me a broader list to investigate that’s within my price range.
Since Covid-19, small units like these are hard to keep in stock at dealers, and they command a bit of a premium over the prices you quoted, depending on the dealer you are working with. Look around and check out the used market over the next 6 months as many who buy these will want to trade them in on larger models. Just like when someone buys a Honda 250 street bike...its a great learner but the owner with a bit of experience will want to move up to a 750 or larger CC bike!
We love the MYPOD too! I know we have featured it at least twice over the years. To answer your question as to why no MYPOD in this video,. It amazes me how sophisticated the small Campervan market is in the US compared to Australia. Your Teardrops are very appealing and start at a fraction of the cost here in Australia. Maybe there is an opportunity for a canny manufacturer to emigrate and start off here in OZ?
You left out one of the very best brands. Hiker Trailer Indiana makes the best tear drop campers out there and they're still selling them at amazing prices.
I really liked the one that had ramps and an open area just in front of the camper part of the trailer to park a golf cart or pack gear or a couple of dirt bikes? Although im looking for something that can sleep at least 4 lol

Thank you for your very informative video. The price point difference shows these little trailers really don't give you much for your money. However, not having to buy a full size pickup is a real plus! After due consideration, for the money, we're better off buying some nice camping gear for off-road and spending the money on nice hotels when on the road. $10K will buy a lot of hotel rooms!
Reading some of the comments. It is obvious that some of the commenters don't overland or spend time outdoors. As for the prices. Teardrops have been legendary for their durability. Therefore they have value. My wife and I are 65. I still work, but my wife has retired this year. We have shopped for campers, trailers, and roof tents. And these trailers are less likely to get you a t-shirt from "Matt's Offroad Recovery" here on UA-cam, "I made a call." I am 6'2"
Well said, thank you for the feedback. If I posted a video about campers under 20 dollars some people would still complain about the price. I don't even look at prices or consider them in 99% of the videos I make lists for. I focus on design and function. This video was for those who post everything is unaffordable in our videos. I use to go look at campers with my dad and we loved looking at the pricey ones but we never made a fuss about not being able to afford them. Seems some may expect the makers of campers to sell them at no profit. It's certainly more entertaining looking at the those with all the bells and whistles.
Some amazing stuff here. The big disappointment though was that Timberleaf. Basically a small bed with a shelf and some insulation for $8,000? At that level of minimalism I'd recommend getting a big pop-up tent, an air compressor, some inflatable mattresses and portable heating, lights, etc. Basically you'd have equal comfort, twice the space and save about $7,800.

agreed .. bears or weirdos in the woods lol
I agree, they don't last no longer than a tent and they leak and mold. For the money it just don't add up.
you could just buy and tow flat trailer and put a tent on it.
Exactly
Yes some don’t seem like trailer but tents
