If someone tells you suspect was a human sized hedgehog. your first question wouldnt be "what did it look like"
Well since they're common-ish in the sonic universe, it would be.
The first question I would ask is "Are you high?"
It's like the old joke. "a penguin walks into a bar, and asks the bartender.. have you seen my father? did he come in here today? and the bartender says... hmm not sure, what does he look like?" get it?

Just to explain the "Wish" thing:
Shadow didn't literally mean he would grant Eggman's wish like a genie. He meant he would help Eggman gather the Chaos Emeralds, which could be used to power the Arc's cannon. Eggman could then use the cannon to demand whatever he wanted (his "wish"). Eggman believed this was their plan. Shadow, however, was lying about this. He knew that activating the cannon would trigger Gerald Robotnik's failsafe to crash the colony and "avenge" Maria by destroying humanity, and that was his goal until the end of the game when Amy talked him out of it.
In addition to it's other faults, this game really doesn't explain the plot very well.
its bad translation
Lord Tyrathius the only problem with the cutscenes is the English script it got fucked up in translation

The only reason why the characters are interrupting eachother is because they didn't bother to make the sequencing optimized for the English version. That's why the Japanese version does not have characters interrupt each other.
That's also why nothing lip syncs in the English version.
But you see, that takes effort.
So they were just lazy
A comment from one year ago rather than 3 months ago or 3 days ago...
It's almost more sad seeing this because it makes me wish we could go back to those times instead of this nonsense happening in the internet today. When the biggest problems being addressed were bad games
@★ Froggie Animation ★ Shut up thx.
coldsteel1979 Just like most Japanese developers who convert games to English. Except I thought Sonic Adventure, like Sonic 2, was American.
So in short Sega needs to bring back Chao garden and people will be happy!
MissedTitan That's all I want. That's all I've ever wanted since SA2B. Honestly I just wanted the Chao Garden to become it's own game completely separate from Sonic, it was solid enough to be a standalone franchise and it would have sold like gangbusters. Sonic, meanwhile, needs to be visually reverted to the cute Classic Sonic design that never talks and only moves on a 2D plain. That was the best part of Sonic Generations, he was so much more endearing than Modern Sonic and his "too cool for school" dialog that never fucking stops.
MissedTitan You'd think it would be perfect as a phone game which is what they mostly do these days, but nope.
laprasking That's exaclty what I was about to write lol. But yeah, I mean Sega has clearly embraced the mobile market. I know a LOT of people would love to see a mobile Chao Garden game.
MyHumanLife
Exactly. If they're worried it won't sell, just plaster Sonic's face other it and call it "Sonic's Chao Garden" or something.
MissedTitan they brought it back in sonic advance and it sucked
Man the comment section here is like a living museum of "jumping on the wrong bandwagon"
@nightmare Shadow your comment right here makes no sense
nightmare Shadow That’s your own fault though. You jumped to conclusions, believed the lies of a jealous liar and that’s how this all happened.
If you think this feels bad, imagine being bulled by hundreds of thousands of people all at the same time for months and months because a couple of kids Tweeted bad things about you with no proof.
I IMAGINE THAT FEELS PRETTY BAD.
But no, you're right, I should lay off. Wouldn't want anyone feeling guilty.
@nightmare Shadow Your going to hate someone because you were wrong? Yeah that makes A LOT of sense man. Wow they should let YOU run UA-cam.
@nightmare Shadow So we're not supposed to make examples out of people who don't take "Innocent until proven guilty" as a mantra to prevent more of this shit from happening? Because that's ultimately what you are at this point. An example.
...now I can't stop staring at Sonic's detached arm in all the cutscenes...

Apparently this is actually only an issue with the re-releases, in the original Dreamcast Version it looks fine.
@@nicestoriesnottherealstori3006 The Dreamcast version doesn't render in HD so it probably wasn't noticeable there
Never understood why Eggman's warning shot for the Earth was blowing up the moon.
Because that's not a warning shot.
Super Samicom He's not very good at his job.
Blowing up half the moon would destroy the earth anyways.
The asteroids left over from it would rain down destroying cities & impacts would end up covering most of the world in clouds & volcanic ash while the tides would get fucked up from the moons lesser gravitational pull.
So he pretty much destroyed the Earth when he blew up the moon. His grandfather would be so proud.
RIIIIIIIIGHT?
Golden Age Gamer Forget the tides, the change in gravity, the wobble could cause the Earth to even crash into the Sun frankly. (Or go flying off into space... or settle into any number of strange new orbits...)
Golden Age Gamer thats what i said
The game could've been a lot better if any of the stages besides Sonic made any sense for the character you play them with. Knuckles is hot headed, egotistical brute. Why not give him a beat em up stage? Tails is an 8 year old genius with an IQ of 300. Why not give him puzzle stages? The Sonic stages work so well because they go along with what makes Sonic who he is. Speed. And I don't know about you guys, but when I think of Knuckles and Tails, I don't really think of fetch quests and 3rd person shooters.
That's actually a really good point.
I completely agree. Other characters should have THEIR CHARACTER TRAITS.
***** If knuckles was a GOOD guardian, he wouldn't let it break in the first place. And name one level where tails used his machines that was actually fun.
***** I just feel that the levels don't fit the characters. Yes, Knuckles guards the master emerald with his life, but centering his story around it is just unnecessary, and I feel they could've done much better with the presentation. If they want knuckles searching for the emerald shards, that's fine, but making his levels centered around a wild goose chase with occasional enemies is a poor way to present it. They just as easily could've just made a beat em up stage with a shard of the master emerald at the end or being held by bosses.
Nutty Dodo You want something like that? I believe SADX has Tails puzzle levels
I always played Tails/Eggman stages for chaos drives, that way I could tell from a distance what color drive was released before I accidentally grabbed the wrong color.
And the Treasure Hunting stages lets you find rare animals the fastest.
SA2 is the Final Fantasy X of the franchise. It's either "the last good game in the franchise", or "the first bad one."
ffx is amazing and i love 12 and 15 too
I’d say that more describes final fantasy 12, as the splitting point
except ffx is great and sa2 sucks some major ass
You kidding? FFX isn't flawless, but I revisited it just last year to check how it holds up, and it's a darn good game.

I liked 99% of this game. the other 1% is mad space
Agreed
+xFortyseven Hidden Base is my least favorite. I hate Tails. But Eggman's missions were fun, and the music was phenomenal.
+andres meza so you basically disagreed with everything in this video
Aquatic Mine, Mad Space, and fuck that ending boss for Shadow on normal campaign. Took me FOREVER.
But honestly, most levels aren't... that great. And I actually like breaking up types of game play in it, and making it clearly obvious who is doing what. Sonic/Shadow = fast, Tails/Eggman = shooty, Knuckles/Rouge = hide and seek, and nothing really changes, so we know what's going to happen. Which is a bonus that new games don't have. The skills required of you are very consistent and they don't throw new shit at you regularly, and they don't put you in crap overworlds. I don't know, something about the way the way this game was put together made it... more tolerable.
Though he could be right, it could just be Chaos.
I liked 1% of the game(Chao Garden), the other 99% is awful story, mediocre voice acting, and terrible physics.

Or that DMC is the best Devil May Cry.
15:22 5 years later and I still can't hear this song without Jared all of a sudden in my brain with that cold stare.
Now that I think about it, SA2 got rid of so many great things from the original Sonic Adventure game, like the hub worlds and the character specific stories. It actually feels like an adventure with everyone’s story being connected into one big plot line.
there is the hero and dark story and cutcenes show different characters at a time.
They also made the treasure hunting stages much worse and Tails and Eggman control far worse than Gamma.
They removed the hub world because in the story, you are always in a rush and making a hub world would have slowed down the game (Not at all saying that Hub World sucks, All I wanna say is that it would wouldn't make sense with the story of Sonic Adventure 2)
That's the point
@@okagron I do agree they could've added the radar to work on all emeralds at once, but that doesn't break the game either way. Also, gamma's controls were designed with his stages in mind, and vice versa for Eggman and Tails. I think their controls fit well for their stages as it keeps the difficulty in check so you cant take shortcuts not meant to be taken.
I like the Knuckles stages as far as gameplay. I just despise the beeping.

autobot151 Are we repeating ourselves?
Sonic Unleashed: Sonic fans say it sucks because only half the game is good
Sonic Adventure 2: Sonic fans love it when at best a third of the game is good
Logic?
*****
I admit Unleashed was a bit short, but the Multiplayer in SA2 was incredibly unbalanced - if you got ahead, you could just gather rings and spam attacks non stop. And if we cut all the parts out of SA2 which weren't good, it would probably be a similar length to Unleashed.
Because exactly only 10 stages were good in Adventure 2...
Because even if Tails and Knuckles stages weren't enjoyable for you for some reason, Chao Garden and multiplayer don't exist... or the rest of the content.
This entire "1/3 of the game is good" point is a complete bs.
Shulk the Homs
Chao Garden is completely pointless, the multiplayer as I said is incredibly unbalanced, the Tails stages are boring (shoot, shoot and more shoot), the Knuckles and Rouge stages were infuriating.
Pointless =/= fun tho. You can still mess around in it and have fun, even if it wasn't necessary.
Explain maybe, why is it unbalanced.
Then you have to hate Gamma stages in SA1 which served no challenge whatsoever. Same applies to Knuckless stages in SA1. They were extremely small, Tikal was giving way too big clues and finding Master Emerald pieces was way too easy. Give SA2 a credit, at least it requiers you to take some time into finding those collectibles.
Also, it's nice you don't even elaborate on why Tails stages are boring or Knux stages are infuriating.
Shulk the Homs
In the Tails stages all you do is shoot. You can literally just spam the shoot button for 5 minutes and you'll win easily. And why the hell is Tails in a mech anyway? The radar in the Knuckles stages only lets you find the emeralds in the set order, instead of simply letting you know when you're near one. And he moves way too quickly to be precise enough and the camera is awful. I already explained why the multiplayer was unblanced - if one player gets ahead, they can simply grab all the rings and spam attacks and their opponent has no chance of catching up.
I haven't played Sonic Adventure 1.

Lyle McDouchebag The Eggman Stages were quite good, the tails one were just bad. Same goes to Knuckles, his was good, Rouge was bad.
I actually think that the new Sonic games arent really that good, cause you dont have different play styles like in SA2. I dont like running the whole time, cause the stages get more worse the more Speed stages there are.
And the real reason why SA2 is awsome is in the end the amazing soundtracks.

Orginally designs for shadow had him looking much closer to sonic. The main difference is shadow had a scar and darker blue fur. It is belviable with that design that people might confuse him and sonic with only quick looks and in darkness.
Thanks for commenting about the video, even back then
God, that would've been so stupidly edgy.
I'd still argue it WOULD make sense for people to confuse these two: both 3'3 hedgehogs that move fast, similar looks, Sonic has been seen by many people transforming into Super Sonic (in SA1) and who's quills are raised exactly like Shadow's, in fact show anyone irl who is vaguely familiar with Sonic a photo of him, they know him and all that but then show them a picture of Shadow, wouldn't their response be "Hey that kinda looks like Sonic"
Who gives a shit what the concept art looked like, it doesn't make any sense in the finished game. I swear, Sonic fans will say the dumbest shit to defend these games lmao
@@Christopher-md7tf Explain how it doesn’t make sense.
I agree with Jared in this. (Big The Cat aside,) I like Sonic Adventure 1 better.
Knuckles stages were more suited to his abilities, and Tails WASN'T IN A MECH. Eggman makes SENSE to be in a mech, BUT That's NO excuse to why Tails has to be in one too!
ContraZombie4 ...Also I can't figure out how to raise the Chao in those minigames though...
ContraZombie4 You just pet them and give them animals/food, after a while you can name them, send them to classes to learn new things. Once their skills have increased you can put them into races and katate, Then they can evolve into adult stages, the way you raise them also changes how they evolve (for example, feeding them constant speed drives with sonic turns them into a sonic chao, or feeding them ghosts makes them float and takes their legs away). The mechanics are pretty deep in the chao garden
***** Pretty deep, minus the fact that you just told me you win the races and such by just feeding them and petting them. Maybe i'm just not looking at this right.... I'm PROBABLY not looking at this right...
ContraZombie4 It's not exactly deep, see Chao has stats like stamina, power, fly, speed, etc. You can raise the stats by giving them items or animals. You can buy items from a market using rings you collected, and you can get animals from defeating enemies. This give a PERFECT excuses for you to replay your favorite stages, as you can raise your chao alongside replaying stages.
Besides that, there's really not much else, save for chaos just being cute as fuck. It's essentially a tamagotchi inside a sonic game, yes you don't take direct control of the chao, I mean, when's the last time you possess your dog?
Captain Truth
I mean there's the potential of the chao's stats (Can range from E to S), meaning an S ranked flying chao with level 60 flying can do better than an E ranked flying chao with level 70-80.
To get the best possible chao you need to breed those S ranked chao's together.
There's also the Good/Bad Meter to see if it evolves into a good chao or bad chao. How the chao is raised also effects it's personality, and a happy/sad meter, which is determined by how it was treated, such as an abused chao will be sad and abuse others (even run away I believe).
You also have the hidden stats "Luck" and "Intelligence" which helps in races, to point out the obvious, luck helps with the luck based mingames and intelligence raises the Chaos chance of understanding "Right, this square goes into the Square hole". Thus having an advantage in races.
The chao's personality also effects how well it does, having "Crybaby, curious, or short tempered" Will effect how it does in races, for example a Crybaby chaos luck/intellegence is set to 5 with no way of raising them, a curious chao has double intellegence gain but 0 luck (with no way of raising luck, so it'll also be unlucky) and a short tempered chao has double luck gain but no intellegence (and no way to raise intellegence, it'll always be stupid).
It's personality is determined by a TON of things, such as how many friends it has, how it was raised, what it learns in classes, what fruit it eats/how much it eats,
Chao's also evolve 2 times before finally reincarnating or dying. to get the best possible chao, you need to raise the best possible chao then get it to reincarnate to an even better chao. Doing it takes a lot of effort and it's challenging.
The type of chao you get is dependant on the drives/animals you give it. There are also special types of chao that are very hard to obtain, such as a Chaos Chao or a Sonic Chao which require strict rules to create.
I wasn't lying when I said it's deep, it's well thought out, and I haven't even gone on to discuss how to breed chaos, how different colourd eggs change the chao, what kind of breeds there are, special breeds, bright chaos, recipies for really unique chaos (although recipies aren't a mechanic, just a really weird combonation that gives weird looking chaos), etc.
I'm gonna be completely honest here...
I think the only few reasons people "love" this game are because of the nostalgia factor, the Sonic and Shadow stages, which are pretty good, and the Chao Garden.
I have to agree with ProJared, though, everything else just sucks about it. When I played this, three-fourths of the time I felt like I was playing Sonic 06.

At least the night-time stages were actually platformy. They weren't flawed, just not fast. But the Tails and Knuckles stages . . . yeah, they suck. Although, going back to the Adventure series would be a good idea, as the Sonic and Shadow stages were some of the best in the series. Make stages based on those, add a Chap Garden and BOOM! Success. But of course, SEGA is not smart enough.

4:15 I will give credit to Sonic X on this one. In the show, the video they have of shadow stealing the Chaos Emerald is dark, and a bit blurry, so all they could make out was the shape of an anthropomorphic male hedgehog with a shit-eating grin. Considering the fact that the only anthropomorphic male hedgehog with a shit-eating grin they've seen so far is Sonic, since he's from another world, it would make sense. I can't believe I just gave credit to Sonic X.
Sonic X isn't the worst show to watch in the world; its just one of the worst DUBBED shows to watch. The original from what I saw is so much better...even if its weird hearing Sonic in Japanese...
Sonic X actually makes the plot of Sonic Adventure 2 (and at least one plot element used in Shadow the Hedgehog) much more coherent. Credit where it's due, they did a better job telling the stories of the games they're writing these episodes for than the games ever did.
Sonic X is a perfectly fine show, bearing Chris Thorndyke. Not that great, it's certainly no Dragonball Z or Avatar the Last Airbender, but it's just fine.
Robo Mike I can't believe someone watched Sonic X for the plot.
Just kidding. It's actually been quite a while since the last time I've seen anything Sonic X related... oh, God. The nostalgia makes me wanna rewatch the whole show now.
So, everybody wants a new sonic adventure. My question is, what the hell do you people think sonic 06 was?
Sonic Heroes was the closest thing to Adventure 3
Another Sonic game. Adventure 3 is officially not recognized by SEGA as of last month. So if they know it doesn't exist yet, it doesn't. Adventure 3 is a sequel in name, nor big deal. I don't see what the point is in telling us that 06 plays ideally like the game, when Adventure 3 means two things. One, a sequel right after 2, and two, another adventure styled game done right. Why is that hard to comprehend?
You misunderstand me. The multiple storylines, the different characters, I mean, it's very clear that sonic 06 was trying to be the 3rd sonic adventure, and it failed spectacularly. And after sonic boom failed with ONE storyline, do you really want to see them try 3 again?
+Racecarlock why the he'll not? Just because one game failed from the formula, doesn't mean the style is fucked. Execution doesn't determine that. And let me tell you why 06 isn't special adventure 3. it's cause it doesn't identify it as so. Is Sonic 3 and Knuckles Sonic CD 2? What about Sonic Colors 2? You think those titles and think "I'd like to see a time travel 2d adventure again and another game where Eggman takes Planet Wisp again." When you think adventure 3, you want another adventure that is taking place after Adventure 2. And yes, the name matters a little. It really wouldn't make a difference to me if we get another adventure game with 3 in the name or not as long as the game is like those two games but better. SEGA OFFICIALLY recognizes Adventure 3 as a game that has yet to be made. Unleashed was supposed to be Adventure 3 when they were making it, but they decided to make it its own thing. That means no adventure 3. That's just the truth
Joseph Franc But based on sonic 06 and sonic boom, how do you know they won't badly fuck up adventure 3 as well?
i like playing as rouge and knuckles
fun fact Sonic IS the original Hedgehog not Shadow, Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik based on a design from a mural the ancient Echidnas did based on Super Sonic's future battle with Chaos in Sonic Adventure 1(hence why his quills stick up) so even though Shadow was created before Sonic was born he is based on Sonic
as the Doctor said, Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey or in other words the time paradox known as Retrocausality in which an effect precedes its cause in time
at first I was mad and defensive because this is my favorite sonic game ever. but then I laughed because I remembered all the flaws this game has.
But tbh
I actually liked the mech and hide & seek games
Adam Wolf agree the only feature that is totally shit is the kart racing imo.

A lot of people are like "WHY HAVEN'T WE GOTTEN SONIC ADVENTURE 3 YET !?!?!" we did, it was called sonic '06, it had everything a both sonic adventure games had previously(minus the chao garden) multiple stories that had overlapping moments, all three stories making you play as 3 different characters(in some cases 4) all stories leading to one moment, and of course terrible multiplayer, along with dumb boss fights. if sega had more time to work on the game, it probably would be called "Sonic Adventure 3"
Brain Swift Based on the fanbase's logic, we've had multiple all the way from Heroes to The World Adventure.
Brain Swift Sonic Heroes did the same.
Sonic 06 is more of a Next Gen SA1. Its not SA3.
I think what we meant was a GOOD sonic adventure 3. XD I loved heroes, actually, but probably just cause it was the first sonic game I ever played.

Unnecessary in a Sonic game, maybe, but for some people that enjoy mindless bashing in games like Golden Axe and Dynasty Warriors (like myself), I think I would have some fun with the Werehog.
Ultimate Spoopynator HogWolf makes more sense, yeah. Noted!
To each there own I say. I honestly still think both Adventure games hold up very well. Hell, I go back to Adventure 1&2 more than any other Sonic game I own. I even wipe my files (not the 100% completed files) and start the story all over again and it's a blast. But, nostalgia glasses off I do see the problems both games have, but they don't stop me from having a fun time, yes even the Knuckles and Rouge stages I find fun.
At least you acknowledge the problems
***** I know your pain....20 minutes on Meteor Herd and 25 minutes on Mad Space.
Both of those levels can go die. So needlessly large!
Not to mention Mad Space makes the radar work in reverse!
***** No argument there. Mad Space was needlessly huge and confusing. Only fun I got out of that stage was just flying around aimlessly and drill diving from the highest point.
Not much of a sonic fan but city escape is definitely one of the best things ever
A small part of my childhood came back listening to the instrumental on that intro song and nailing the timings despite not having heard the song in years.
Good review btw.
I just want a dedicated Chao Garden game. Seriously, I still absolutely ADORE the gardens. I'm a sucker for raising creatures. Pokemon, Monster Rancher, NiGHTS, you name it! Honestly, I feel like the main campaign of Sonic Adventure is just an elaborate minigame for the Chaos.
I agree with you that leveling up your Chaos was the best part of the game. But, SA2 is overrated to no end. (Well, I guess I could say that about any Sonic game.) This was not "the last great Sonic game" or "The greatest Sonic Game ever", and it's certainly not the best game on the Sega Dreamcast.
The Chao garden is as overrated as the rest of this game
KidSnivy69 Sounds like someone is jelly they never raised a Chaos Chao.
***** It should link to other Sega games like what the Game-Cube ports did, because I loved getting the exclusive stuff. I loved the ones in PSO and if they did it with PSO2 like they're doing with Sonic endless runner with Choa Garden, then that would add replay value!
***** Yup, i forced myself though most of the (mini)game, for the chaos.
It's okay to like/love a flawed game. Heck, I love Skyward Sword even though people hate it, but I don't go out of my way to tell people why they're wrong when it gets criticized.
Enjoy the games you play, but be willing to hear criticism.
Nathanthepoe Thank you! THANK YOU!Someone understands it!
Nathanthepoe I love the shit out of Bubsy 3d for some reason, but if people want to call it the worst game of all time I can see where they're coming from.

I don't get people who say SA2 didn't age well, I replayed it recently and it's just as amazing as I remember. Same goes to most people who love this game. I feel like people just overly hate on it because of some sort of jealousy (f.ex. because it's generally more beloved than the boost games, hence people's wish for SA3). Sega literally took SA1 (a game I never played until recently and still loved) and improved on it in many areas, what more can you ask for? :(
Yeah, I’ve only played SA2 last year and it is really good and on my top 5 favorite games
The only thing that didn’t age well were the cutscenes and English dub, other than that, the game is still great

Fun fact: they never covered it in the game, but there was a mini-comic series that showed Maria rushing Shadow to one of the escape pods. Right as he was about to evacuate safely, a GUN soldier popped out and *shot a little girl in the fucking chest.* With her last bit of strength, she hits the eject button and tells him goodbye. Not the most groundbreaking writing, but it hit me in the feels when I was 11.
And yeah, those Chao segments are incredibly fun. I spent so many hours getting a Dark Shadow Chao. MATERNAL NOSTALGIA POWERS ACTIVATE!

You. Yes. Oh. My. God. I. Have. Found. ANOTHER YESSSSSSSSS
+MEW99999 me to!!!
I think it's not that good, but I still love it subjectively because I had a lot of good memories with sonic heroes, it was one of the first games I literally begged my parents to get for me
i say it is the best "3d" sonic game because if you you can most always keep you're speed unless you are changing to a flying character something falls in you're was punch it and switch back or if you are going fast enough you can dodge it
It's an OK game, but repetitive as hell.
The only thing more repetitive than that would be Shadow the Hedgehog
Going back to this is a trip. I'm in grade 11 now, and I remember watching this and the completionist when Greg was with him. Good times. I'm sad they are over, but I'm glad I got to experience them.
Wow, you must have had a shitty time if you watched this piece of junk, my condolences
all I can remember right now is the snap cube "sonic adventure 2 fandub" that shit was wild as fuck
From what I understand the reason the voice actors act oddly like that in the cutscenes is that when they recorded their lines they were given no context for the scenes. No preview, no direction, not even the other actors involved in the scenes as well. They simply had to read their lines how they figured it should sound, pretty much just speaking out in a vacuum.
Also the reason why they talk over each other was because the cutscenes are set to the Japanese lip movements. Some Japanese words are spoken faster than English. Sega rather than localizing and adjusting the cutscenes for English just left them the same and slapped the English audio on top and the rest is history.
Fractorification someone gets it ^_^ It would be to much work for them to create two scripts for the in engine cutscnes, nowadays the cutscenes are animated for English first then the other languages are just dubbed over it. 06 had some of the in cutscenes mocapped by japanese actors causing it to look like the mouths were barely moving, however the CG ones were animated for English first .
you know what, i've never seen you do a lengthy analysis of a game like this, but it's really good. keep it up, i'd love to see more.

PindleofKujata that playing this game gives u colon cancer
You should check out +SomecallmeJohnny , he does game reviews in really great depth like Jared did here. He provides excellent comedy, too.
PindleofKujata You ask the questions that matter.
I wish Sega would understand the nuances. People actually didn't like the mech stages? "Let's remove them! But wait, weren't the Gamma stages alright and harmless? Yes, but SA2 dictates all".
Same with the treasure hunting stages... which actually gave us something worse: Knuckles being forgotten.
From that point onwards, all Sonic games that tried more than running where half-assed OR, if polished, were better designed as running stages... and these stages always featured some kind of hedgehogs. I hate that... It's not the variety that I liked in SA2, it's the fact I got to play as not-yet-dumbed-out Knuckles. I want to play as Knuckles again, even if all he does is run around, glide and climb walls to the fin---Oh Sonic Mania!
Dat bass line gets me every time. Such feels

Is that real
I'm fucking dying
yup, that's actually how that cutscene plays out. Whoever did sound tech for this game needs shooting. I know Jun Senoue's work is amazing but I want to be able to hear the game over it, also if characters didn't talk over each other constantly that would be great too.
xweert711 Love your icon. So cool!
The reason why they're stepping over each other's lines is because the dialogue was originally in Japanese and I guess they forgot to extend the time of the cutscenes to make up for the translation.
They step over each other's lines on the japanese version. Is actually almost worst hahahahahaha

Game definitely aged badly, still has some fun bits though.
Yes is does. But it still doesn't excuse the atrocities in the game
You Tube "Atrocities" is a bit of a stretch. There's MUCH worse than the things this game offers, in the same series in fact.
***** Just because there are worse things, the ones this game has don't stop being atrocities. I agree though, there are MUCH terrible stuff in the Sonic franchise.
I like to imagine that Sonic was only fine after him and Shadow teleported the Ark is because Shadow's chaos control is so much better, so he had to pick up the slack from Sonic and he ended up overexerting himself and 'dying.'
Well actually one of his dialogues during the boss fight expressed his exhaustion. It's probably either inexperience or power overload

Sonic 06
Faker you do know that 06 was bad because time restraints, not design, right?
Faker Outside of the awful plot, glitches, and oversized hubworld, 06 had pretty decent gameplay concepts.
Matiasga98 The ball puzzle in Silvers story isn't bad design, huh?
rainopaino unpolished levels due to time restraints. Also picking one level in the whole game does not make all of it bad
Matiasga98 I can name more. Not just levels but the hub worlds too. They're way too open and take forever to get around. The "guess who it is" mission was terrible. The Mach speed sections controll like shit, epically in mid air. How about kill all enimies in order to proceed with the level? That got old for everyone, especially since all you're doing is mashing the A button and that it's in almost every level. There's a lot more wrong with this game. This game is terribe, being rushed doesn't justify it in the slightest, it just makes the game worse then it already is.

This game, just like every other game in existence, can be nitpicked apart. I've enjoyed hundreds of hours in this game when I was younger and still not today, and I loved every second of it. Even now, having it on steam and picking it up a couple of weeks ago, with the nostalgia goggles off, I can say this game is still very enjoyable. Like this video, ProJared just straight up says that the Knuckle/Rogue stages and Tails/Eggman stages are garbage, but I think they're completely enjoyable. From a "sonic standpoint" everyone just thinks "gotta go fast" and to be honest, it was never all about the speed.
+Kylebassgs Well said. People need to realize that of it isn't about speed, it isn't a bad sonic game.
I enjoyed every part of it, that is, except the Knuckles and Rouge parts, those I had to use walkthroughs for.
I actually liked the Knuckles stages. You eventually get a sense for where the emeralds will be, and it's all about optimizing your path to get there.
The stages are all about getting familiar with the area. And you don`t need to not use ANY hint boxes, just using 1 per master emerald piece/chaos emerald/key will give you A rank if you`re not too slow at it. The stages rely a bit on luck but not solely on it. the way the radar works sucks but the other things are not problem, they kinda add to the replayablility
The music is ear rapingly bad though
If something only gets good after replaying it a ton, maybe that's a bad thing. The treasure hunting stages worked just fine in SA 1, SA 2 made them way worse.

As a fan of Sonic Adventure 2 and it's predecessor I do believe Projared makes some good points, even though it's nothing I haven't heard before. In fact, I can relate to his experience upon returning to the game. I remember watching multiple Sonic fans praising this game saying it was the best 3D Sonic game ever made right next to Sonic Generations. Even watch mojo placed it at number 4 as the best 3D Sonic game ever made. That was over half a decade ago and I haven't watched them since. Still, I had never looked forward to playing a Sonic game more than anything else in my life.
When I was 16, I finally purchased the game off of steam. At this point, I had beat Sonic Adventure three times in a row on the dolphin emulator so I had really high expectations. When I finally played the game I was having a horrible time from the very beginning. The high speed stages are way more speed focused than in Sonic Adventure, and because the stories forced me to switch between characters, i didn't have enough time in one playthrough to get used to any of them. This game was also made to be harder than the last one and the difficulty accelerated much quicker than I anticipated. The gravity gimmicks in the later stages were also very annoying. 3D just wasn't ready to seamlessly pull that off yet. Even if it was, do you really think a developer like Sonic Team would've been able to do it? Anyway, that was my initial experience with the high speed levels. I legitimately thought they were too fast. My experiences with the other two gameplay styles were very much the same as Projared's. I found treasure hunting painfully boring because of the nerfed radar and the mech shooting extremely frustrating due to poor controls and heavy physics.
As I finished the game, I felt betrayed by the very fanbase I was a part of, but what kept me from disregarding the game completely was one thought. Why did I enjoy the first one so much and not this one? Sonic Adventure is much more unstable than Sonic Adventure 2. Even while raging, I could recognize that. Object collision wasn't perfect but it was better than what came before. Clearly the developers made an effort to polish the game. Perhaps, it was hindsight Sonic Team lacked while developing this game. So I continued playing each of the stages individually and I started to look past all the problems. I eventually got used to the high speed platforming and the first couple treasure hunting stages became much more tolerable. However, I couldn't get used to the mechs. I like shooting things in any game but the real problem is the control. There's just no excusing this especially since Gamma's stages in Sonic Adventure controlled just fine. The level design is better but that's pointless praise when moving is a big issue.
So why do I like this game today? It depends on what people look for in a Sonic game. Most, like Projared, look for ceaseless speed. Well, I have good news. Sega's been giving nothing but that since 2010. The only break from that trend being Sonic Boom. I personally want a well built game that is fun. Sure, when I play a Sonic game, I expect some level of speed but I still want a game where I'm allowed to move at my own pace. Maybe I'm biased but I can't imagine the boost games allowing the player to do that. Sonic Adventure 2 was also the last 3D Sonic game with a proper physics engine. What came after was Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, two games I think are equally as bad for completely conflicting reasons. Sonic 06 would turn out so bad that even the slightest attempt at giving it any positive credit would be met with scorn and shame. After that, Sega took a new direction. A direction they are still walking to this day. Sega is mouseifying Sonic the Hedgehog and it gets worse every year. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Sega is considering canceling every game moving forward and transforming Sonic into their Mickey Mouse; a multimedia icon; an immortal husk that will never ever die nor ever be great again.
Sonic Adventure 2 represented the end of the Sega Dreamcast. The 10th anniversary wasn't simply a celebration but also a bittersweet end to an era. The console wars were over. The deserving winner and loser was decided. It was now time to move on to the next chapter.
Game banana is the reason why I enjoy Sonic Adventure 2 so much. Since Sega won't fix it, the fans have to.
projared didn't make any good points, most of them were complete bullshit
watch Ruby of Blue's response video
the hunting levels are easy af and the mech levels control fine, though a bit slower turning
you don't need gamebanana to enjoy Sonic Adventure 2
the hunting levels are actually quite fun, I enjoy dashing, gliding, and drill diving and grabbing emeralds is quite satsifying, the levels are very quick to explore and move around in. The radar is slightly nerfed but the stages are still quite fast and easy. SA1's levels were way too easy.
@@megapokesonicx Look man, I've seen many reviews on this game. I've watched the Geek Critique, J's Reviews, PiplupFan(I think that's his name), Somecallme Johnny, and yes Ruby and Blue. I've played this game, multiple times. And the reason why I say these things about ProJared here is because I had very similar impressions on this game when I first played it. Some of those impressions I still hold to this day.
I played Sonic Adventure first. No surprise there and I thought it was a pretty solid start in 3D. It wasn't anywhere close to perfect but it did what it needed to do. It was a proof of concept for how a Sonic game might work in 3D. All it needed was a sequel to expand on its concepts. Sonic Adventure 2 was meant to be a more focused and challenging game faster paced than anything the series had ever seen before; even though I found the speed perfectly balanced in the first Adventure game. All I wanted a sequel to do was fix the stability; the collision in particular. You can tell that I'm not as fond of the direction Sonic Team has taken the speed stages. I just don't find them as engaging. That one is more of a personal preference as the success of the Boost Formula proves. I just prefer a more genesis accurate structure.
The treasure hunting, however, is a step in the right direction. I'm taking a backseat on this one because: one, this game was meant to be more difficult and two, I haven't played the nerfed version in almost 3 years. I will also admit that I enjoyed the treasure hunting more than every other part of the game even on my first playthrough. I just found the amount of improvement to be a little disappointing.
I still believe the mech shooting is the weakest part of the game. People can say whatever they want but the only improvement I see here is the aiming system and level design. I just think Gamma controls much better though all his levels, except Heat Shelter, are underdeveloped. Not even game banana could fix the mechs awful jumping. I've since stopped bothering with mods for this gameplay format. I really do believe it is garbage.
This is just what I seen in the game and it is in line with at least a few of the points made by ProJared. I'm sorry, but it's just my point of view. It doesn't matter to me whether you enjoy everything this game has to offer or not. I'm not trying to shame you for it.
WHEN WILL YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!!???!?!
Y O U F R I C K I N F R I C K S
YOU HAVE OFFICIALLY MADE ME LOOSE... MY... MARBLES!!!!!!
RRAAAAAAGHHHH
*SEGA will remember that...*
Not real just so you know
Get your shit together Sonic team...
Seriously.
You jump from 2D platformer to 3D exploration to Mario galaxy to Werehog simulator to racer to Sonic Boom and you NEVER develop any of your previous ideas.
Just let him die
I KNOW that it was made by big red button.
I was just trying to make a point that sonic can't just stay with one type of gameplay.
That does not excuse anything
Sonic Team made secret rings, black knight, unleashed, sonic 06, shadow the hedgehog, sonic 4, adventure 1, adventure 2, those bullshit sonic spinoffs...
The fact that they were not the creators of sonic boom just takes a little shit out of their track record.
Mago. D Snowman But there's Sonic Generation and Sonic Colors...
You can't really say it's all bad when there were times they actually tried.
It's just that they should stop trying to one-up Mario in galaxy and actually try to go to something that they did best: Level design, good mechanics and Speed.
DAliasReaper I did not mention those because I do think they are good games. (even lost world)
But why can't they just stick to one formula instead of trying different stupid gimmicks every single time?
Mago. D Snowman You've got it right. They show no sign of improvement and, when they did, they forgot it after a few years. I'd rather let Sonic die and enjoy the few games I hold to my heart than see him milked for money on iOS because SEGA and Sonic Team is either/both incompetent or just don't care.
Honestly, I don't think Sonic Adventure 2 sucks as much as people on here claim it does, but instead it suffers from poor execution and level design. Take Knuckles emerald hunting stages for example. In SA1, it was a lot more polished and better designed. The radar would let you track all 3 pieces at the same time if in range instead of just 1. To this day, I never understood why they didn't just keep the same radar system for SA2. But yea, I do agree Knuckles should've had more stages with him punching stuff instead of treasure hunting. Save that for characters like Rouge.
The same can be said about Tails too. In SA1, his stages and gameplay was alot more fun in comparison. Not that I'm against Tails in a mech, but yea, that beeping sound was freakin awful and needs to die. Could they not have picked a better sound to show you attacking with? Not to mention the mech levels seriously needed more attack variation instead of just lock on to actually make them more interesting. Again, I don't think they were a bad idea, but just poorly executed as a game mechanic.
As for the story? Yea, I got no defense for it for the most part because it really is dumb that so many people were fooled thinking Shadow was Sonic. That's not to say I don't like the idea of Shadow framing Sonic to get him in trouble with the authorities, but seriously, put some freakin effort into how they were fooled, SEGA. You know, maybe have Shadow wear a disguise or even have Eggman build a robotic fake that looks authentic as the real Sonic so people really are duped into believing Sonic committed these crimes to get him out of the picture. It's really not that hard to fix these issues.
You know, I really hate how people act just because Sonic and Shadow's stages were the only good ones that they believe Sonic's friends shouldn't be playable characters when in reality, their stages were heavily flawed and just needed some fine tuning to make them fun as well. It's this kind of thinking why we got terrible games like Sonic Lost World and Sonic Forces. Whether people want to admit it or not Sonic's friends are part of what makes a Sonic game good. Just look at SA1 and Sonic Heroes if you need an example of that. Heck, even the Sonic Advance games did them pretty well too.
All and all, Sonic need to go back to SA1 type of games, not SA2. SA1 had a good balance of story, characters, game play, bosses and so on. Well, ok, except for Big the Cat's, but that's the only exception here. And yes, Sonic games do need to return to the Chao gardens too. I mean, I'm not that crazy about em, but since it was such a hit in SA1 and SA2, I can't understand why they never did bring them back. It makes no sense to me.
I agree.
Jonathan83X I think the reason they changed knuckles’ radar is to extend the length of the level
This is BY FAR the best comment from someone who likes the game. People just can't fathom third precious games being flawed. No matter what series
Except SA1's design had its own fair share of problems.
The Knuckles stages were a joke because the maps were incredibly small, the radar too easy to abuse and even if you still had trouble finding the shards, the hints showed you exactly where to go. SA1 was the other extreme and it was also dumb.
And the Tails stages were basically Sonic stages except they were also a non-issue due to how broken Tails' flight was.
SA1 is also majorly flawed, let's not delude ourselves here.
@Jyniguunx yz look man, i love that you're trying to inform people about the importance of context, but lets be honest, these people arent gonna listen to you and will instead fabricate plot holes that fit their own contrived personal narrative.
Despite all of it's faults, this game will always be my favorite Sonic game ever and will always be one of my top favorite games in general
I grew up with it as a kid and played it over and over and over again, so it may be a biased opinion
@@LeilaTheRose I dont have them either and though not perfect I love this game,I actually started playing it last year.I do agree with the problems but I learn how to get around around them and once you do the game becomes a masterpiece, but I know that not every one can get around these flaws and I understand the hate it gets
Sonicopi I never grew up with this game and finished it like last month but I still love it so I can’t be biased
Well yeah, you literally just described nostalgia.
people like u are so annoying everyone that likes sa2 is clouded by nostalgia it would be way less liked if ppl werent so dumb
@@AniGaAGI first experience this game AFTER you made that comment. No prior time spent, and I barely even knew anything about the game before-hand.
Its one of my favorite games, it's just good. The video has many nitpicks and even contradicts itself with more criticisms.
