Yes. Not to mention that killing them gives you nothing. I don't even think they count towards the game's "kill five, get a potion" trigger that almost every enemy works off.
12:15 in fact there is a technical reason for that. It is not even a game design choice at first. It comes from how the game was made in Japan. In the japanese version which plays on a disk the last dungeon is on a face of the disk while all the rest of the game is on another side. This is why it would have been impossible to reset Link to the begining of the game once you reach the last dungeon without asking the player to change the disk side and I guess they thought it would be annoying.
Personally, I'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as a BAD Zelda game. Some are definitely better than others, but they are all still good. Except for the CDI titles.
Im with you on this. I have played all of the Console versions of Zelda and some of the Handheld versions. And i cant say any are bad. Some are better than others. But none of them are terrible.
Zelda II is legitimately one of my favorites in the series. It's amazing and one of the best examples of Nintendo-hard games that were also completely fair.
VladNorris Honestly, I think game overs SHOULD punish you more than they usually do in Zelda games. But I suppose that's a different design philosophy debate. I absolutely 100% respect your opinion on this.
Well...BALANCE. I'm not saying modern Zelda games aren't super easy(the damage cap of enemies has been lackluster for quite a long while) or they don't need to be more punishing(Breath of the Wild is looking promising BECAUSE it looks far more punishing...among other things), I'm saying this one went overboard.(It's NOT fair challenge to be sent to the beginning of the fucking game when you get a game over in an adventure game. It's a buzzkill and isn't tied to challenging game design).
Hm... Well, I am trying to keep the pixel art in the same style as the original (I re-detail the original sprites to look better). If you think you can do that, I’d like that a lot. I had stopped working on the project because I was having some strange programming issues. I may pick it back up, though. If you need any idea to what I’d want the artwork to look like, just tell me how to send it to you.

Just thought I'd come by and apologize for participating in your cancellation. I'd known your name for some number of years, and finally started binging your Plays channel after running out of reviews the very week everything started going down, and I happened to be watching your ZII randomized playthrough because it's my favorite in that franchise. I think it was a TRO video that presented another case for you, and it wound up getting me thinking that I was too quick to just go along with the only side that was presented without even bothering to question anything. It's a lesson learned for me, and I think I'm gonna chill out with your ZII stuff tonight.
I remember during a get to know your future classmates party at school wanting to play this for the first time (The teacher's son owned four NES consoles at that point and kept one in the class room for when he had to spend time there) but everyone else insisted on playing Contra or Double Dragon. This was still the first Zelda I played though because I got my NES for Christmas a few months later and rented it that weekend.
Dungeons are confusing and easy to get lost in sometimes, because at least a couple of times you have to jump through apparently solid walls (jump, not walk, because they have ledges that are above ground level) in order to progress with no indication that they're anything other than ordinary walls. At least in Zelda 1, LttP, OoT, and most other Zelda games, you have a general idea of where false walls are (cracks, only being in the center of dungeon walls, sword "tinks").
And what about that village hidden in an otherwise identical tile of the forest, that you have no hope of finding unless you methodically search every square?
12:20 There’s a technical reason for that. On the FDS version of the game, the great palace was on the opposite side of the disk, so they did that to prevent having to swap a disk back and forth.
@MGTOW Hermit Get off your high horse, kid. You can't blame people for following human instinct and jumping on a band wagon. Its human nature. What matters is their ability to change.

I agree the worse Zelda game I still give a 7 out of 10.
Links crossbow training
Triforce Heroes was bad.......
+@@DemonChildCCI love that game
Zelda 2 is an underrated classic. I'm glad you gave it an objective look, Jared.
Zelda II is legitimately one of my favorites in the series. It's amazing and one of the best examples of Nintendo-hard games that were also completely fair.
...except it wasn't completely fair. There IS bullshit design choices and the punishment for a game over is overkill.
Yep. That and the fighting system are a large part of why I gave up on Zelda II rather quickly.
You forget about most important thing that we get from this game.
"I AM ERROR"
is d&december going to happen again? i loved it last year
KodrisAwaken I'm seconding this question/request
Oh my god has it already been a year?!
On Twitch he said it would happen, but that it might be a bit different than last year.
Yeah, me too. I loved that, but I'm not sure how many other D&D games exist that he could cover.
Bring on D & December!
I’m currently trying to remake this game and make it look better and make it more fair... It’s taking so long, though.
holy fucking shit thank you for being a new comment with nothing to do with the fucking drama, what a sight to behold. You sir are a true gentleman
Need a pixel artist?
@@MrLuigi-pe8tn Could you just link them here?
@@schwarzerritter5724 It's not amazing, by any means, but I'll put the image address in here; maybe that'll work (and boy, is it long; the address takes up around 4 pages!) Well, in a google document, because I'm sure it's too long to put in here. I'm not sure how to paste files into a comment on UA-cam... The image itself is in the document, at the top, as well if you'd rather use that.

Anyone else miss the "I'm playing ________" intro?
megafan 1137 me!
Me
he said he got tired of trying to come up with different "cold openings" (thats what those are called, it turns out)
I miss his One Minute Reviews.
Samuel Lopes those were the bomb
Just thought I'd come by and apologize for participating in your cancellation. I'd known your name for some number of years, and finally started binging your Plays channel after running out of reviews the very week everything started going down, and I happened to be watching your ZII randomized playthrough because it's my favorite in that franchise. I think it was a TRO video that presented another case for you, and it wound up getting me thinking that I was too quick to just go along with the only side that was presented without even bothering to question anything. It's a lesson learned for me, and I think I'm gonna chill out with your ZII stuff tonight.
Congrats on being a good person.
Jumping crouch stabs sound super deadly. It's a low attack that you have to stand up to block. The ultimate mix-up.
People consider the Zelda series RPGs?
I never knew that. I always considered them action adventure games with puzzle solving elements.
For some reason, I always love it in his intro when he swings around that game.
12:37 Link vs. Dark Link. *Persona 4's I'll Face Myself starts playing*

How could anybody dislike this game!? It's awesome!
DejaVoodooDoll the only thing i do not like is that everytime you die that you go back to zeldas castle
Jason Quiver when you get good at it its really fun and it's really fun eny way
I really liked Zelda 2. Then again, I also liked Castlevania 2, and we all know about that...
Then again, people think that Mega Man 2 is the best in the series, so what does anybody know about 2nd installments in NES games.
It would be the best if Mega Man 9 didn't exist.
Hard game and welcome back jared your videos are funny to watch again
ANT MAN again?
I don't like how link's sword is flesh-colored.
HashBandicoot To be fair, I'm pretty sure they only had like 3 colors to use on the sprite.
I don't like how my flesh is sword colored.
That is no sword.......😉
HashBandicoot it was zeldas sword. So he took it for good luck.
Welcome to the limitations of the NES
I remember during a get to know your future classmates party at school wanting to play this for the first time (The teacher's son owned four NES consoles at that point and kept one in the class room for when he had to spend time there) but everyone else insisted on playing Contra or Double Dragon. This was still the first Zelda I played though because I got my NES for Christmas a few months later and rented it that weekend.
Why would anyone want to cancel this guy? His vids were, and still are, amazing! Can't wait for the next 1,000,000 sub special.
My marathon of rewatching, liking, and commenting on every Jared video continues. Video 41
Your comments have become a little "Where's Waldo" game for me
The comments are all from 2 years ago, 3 months ago, or the last week
Lol I loved the humor in this one. I'm particularly impressed with your jumping crouch stab. I could never.

the funniest thing in this video is his satisfaction in the transition he made, wether it was acting or on the spot
4:05. Because I need to see this all the time.
Metroid on the NES had many secret walls & floors to get through, so I don't think it's unreasonable to have similar secrets in Zelda 2
I agree it doesn't deserve the hate it gets Jared
12:20 There’s a technical reason for that. On the FDS version of the game, the great palace was on the opposite side of the disk, so they did that to prevent having to swap a disk back and forth.
Keep up the positivity, people! And keep up the good work Jared.
I love your PFP!
Was that advertisement legit? Cause that was extremely creative.
HRPrime what ad

Fingers crossed!!
Ooh, I would so adore something like that... especially if they get the same artist back for the graphics. :)
I'd love to see that! Greenlight it now, Nintendo!
ProJared deserves more subs.
