This is my dog and cat! I rescued my cat from the street after having been hit by a car. I kept her in a crate in my room away from my dog. My dog was a playful menace to my other cat so I didn’t want her being all energetic over her new sister. She got in one day and froze when she saw this cat. I guess something must have clicked with her that day because now all she wants to do is to take care of the cat. She licks the crap out of her ears and this cat will take it but will swat at her like, “ENOUUUUUUUUGH”

Rachel and Jun, I have a suggestion for you about Pichi's issues with being touched. My fiance and I have been socializing two feral cats we rescued and we have found a great method for getting them comfortable with touch. We have a toothbrush taped to the back of a wand toy's handle and when they are eating or being calm we gently rub their heads with the toothbrush. Apparently this stimulates the feeling of being groomed and the fact that it's on the stick means that they recognize it is you touching them but it isn't as scary as your hands.
I can attest to things like this working.
We had our small grooming brush on a stick for ours.
Now she rolls and plays while we brush her directly.

I swear, when you find some strange device in someone's house, they are either a serial killer or a cat parent.
I watch a channel called flatbush cats and I see that they put food in their hands and feed it to the kittens so they see their hands as a source of food.
I used to think that they just got lucky with social cats but wow! The way Rachel dissected Pichi’s process down to considering her defense mechanisms really shows you what attentive people they are. No wonder their cats are they way they are, Rachel and Jun really let them shine!
Yes!! A lot of people can learn how to actually handles cats right thanks to Jun and Rach. =)
They're excellent cat owners for sure! And I think maybe the smaller space actually helps a bit. The cats can't really claim a room and get territorial as much. They're kinda forced to deal with each other :D

He loves to lick others like poki does and grooms my hair sometimes or my face (tries to), he's also small but very quiet so Pichi reminds me of him

I used to care for a street cat who used to be so scared and skittish, but turns out he was the most polite gentleman evarrr! Whenever I offer him a treat, you could tell he tried to be slow and gentle by how he approached the treat from different angles, and when he does eat the treat it'll be feather-light contact as if he's very careful to not hurt my fingers. When he got sick and I gave him a lot of medicine, he never tried to bite or swipe at me. So, so gentle even when he felt awful. To this day (I've rescued/fostered dozens of stray kitties) he was by far the most precious floof ball. He's now resting in peace in my backyard. Hope I see him again in heaven 💙

I've never seen a gathering of cats with such distinct personalities.
There is this youtube account for cats called walter santi. He and his father raised this indoor and outdoor cats with distinct personalities, and he actually makes a video about it. check it out if you are interested :)
Most cats DO have their own personalities. Just, cats are a lot more subtle than dogs! Also, while dogs often want to be EVERYONES friend, cats usually take a while to warm up to people. So it can be really difficult to see a cat's personality if you're not friends with them.
Of my cats, one is the helper cat. He's a soft fluffy baby who will wake me up to tell me that his sister is hungry. (which usually happens when we sleep in) (but seriously. He'll walk me to the food dishes, meowing, I"ll put down food, and then he'll walk away (while his sister starts eating) and he'll be waiting for me on the bed to sleep more.)
One is.. intense. If she wants snuggles, she'll force her head into your hand. If she doesn't want to move, she hooks her claws into the carpet and gains 15 pounds. She is curious, but also a little lazy.
Another is a shy little bean who spent the first 5 years of her life unsure of how to ask for attention. Then she learned that if she jumps onto a surface as we're passing, we'll pet her. Look, I never said she was smart, lol. She now has several things she knows how to ask for, and I think she's more comfortable with us as a result. She's very introverted though.
BUt if you came in and visited, you'd never see this because they'd jsut hide. Helper cat would come out and sniff at you and make a lot of loud meowing and maybe clawlessly swat at your arm a few times, so you know he's a big stronk kitty.

The fact that there's no hissing or vocalizing when Nagi is chasing Pichi is a good sign that they're more likely playing than being chased.
She still shows a bit of fear as well as swiping, so it’s likely she’s not utterly terrified, just uncertain and a little uncomfortable. Still a very good sign!

I hope Poki teaches her it’s okey to be needy so she starts demanding cuddles and head scritches. I feel like she’s so hurt from her time on the streets that she never was allowed to be loved properly so now she polices herself. The day she allows Rachel and Jun to love on her properly, I gurantee you she’ll be stuck to them worse than poki at meal time XD. She’ll be all “Hold me dammit!” “I demand head scritches!” “Why are you cooking, you should be giving me kisses!”

its so cute how cats fight, they just fight a bunch really fast, and then when they realize that ur looking at them, they just freeze in the most strange positions. i once walked into my room to find my cats frozen, with one cat's foot on the other cat's face

Just love seeing her continued progress as she grows in her confidence that she's in a safe place with such kind-hearted humans and that her four-legged siblings are okay too. Also had to laugh at the description of how she felt she had to find new hiding spots when she was "discovered" (we adopted a feral rescue cat around the same time the first Pichi video was posted so we're experiencing a similar joy in seeing our Izzy become gradually less skittish and more confident in her new home)
I'm so glad Izzy has you. I adopted a kitty having behavioral issues a month or two before the shutdown (by coincidence), and she made it so much better.

All 4 cats are so beautiful. When I took in a stray years ago, she didn't want to be touched at first. I used to sit down and put a few dry treats on my lap or my chest. She'd jump up to eat them and got used to being near me and associating me with treats. After a few days, she let me pet her a little while she ate them and by the end of the week she was comfortable around me and would jump in my lap without the food. She quickly became a very affectionate, loving lap cat.
unfortunatly not every stray cat will be like this. If theyre a stray cat their whole life its better to feed them outside and dont take them inside/force them to live with you. (theres a video from kittenlady here on youtube about stray cats, i highly recommend it!)
But its always nice to hear your cat loves you now ❤
@@liserxsarah I've seen that video, and I say it's a case by case basis. If the cat shows extreme agitation to being indoors, certainly put it back out and feed it outside. But some cats become feral because they have no choice, they don't have a home. Sometimes, a cat would indeed rather be indoors with a human to feed them, so I'd just assess the situation and make a good call based on how the cat behaves.
@@liserxsarah it's important to make the distinction between stray and feral, here. most feral cats will at best _tolerate_ humans, and absolutely despise being inside. they were usually born outdoors and were never properly socialized to indoor environments and humans, so unless they're very young, it is indeed unlikely that they'll be able to be kept as pets - getting an adult feral cat used to being indoors is a long and difficult process that isn't guaranteed to work.
stray cats, on the other hand, are usually tame, and in most cases can be convinced to come inside (although it can take a while - my stray is terrified of the indoors, so getting her used to it has been a slow process). they're usually cats that were abandoned by their owners, so they usually know that humans can be friendly and houses aren't that dangerous. most strays can be adopted as pets, and can even thrive indoors.

@@duckkami5314 It's both. A cat grooming another means "I like you, you are part of my group". But it also shows a higher position, because cats are used to being groomed by their mothers. That is why sometimes you see "aggressive grooming", which usually is licking and some more-or-less soft biting. It is also why often a cat that is being groomed by another will start "grooming back" ... just to show that she is not inferior.

She's so pretty. She'll have a good home with you guys. Eventually she'll probably be interacting even more and playing. She seems to be already close with Poki if she's sleeping with him comfortably says much. :) So happy she's doing beautifully. What a difference from Day 1!

As a cat, I'd say she's not scared of Nagi playing. Perhaps mildly annoyed, but not too frightened from her body language.

Poki is the boi with the dark past, Haku is the wise beyond his years boi, and Nagi is the overly friendly boi.
Her intense reaction to flee from her new owners and other cats and hide, and to continue to change her hiding place once discovered, is probably because not only is it a new environment but she must be extra cautious because she only has one eye. This means it's easy for her to be sneaked up on and that her depth perception is compromised. It may be hard for her to accurately analyze how near or far potential predators are. So, with good sense, it is better to keep distance to prevent those dangers. Seeing how such smart animals interact with their environment with altered senses is really a testament to their intelligence.

I work for a feline rescue and we have a kitten that is totally blind right now. I feel so guilty when I have to pick her up because she freaks out (not aggressive just flailing). She is super affectionate and to get her bearings she just shoves her head into your chin/chest/crook of your arm.
This is so true! Our youngest cat (she'll be three in April) has been going blind since summer. She's been to the animal eye specialist, and the regular vet, and they don't know why, but she's developed cataracts at a very young age. As she has lost eyesight, she's become aggressive toward the other cats.
We hope it resolves when she gets cataract surgery early next year.

Ah, Pichi really is becoming a lot more at ease. She's still nervous of course, but there's really a difference now from before. She looks most at ease when she's cuddled with Poki. She's still in the mindset of it seems too good to be true, but she's starting to tentatively trust a little more. It's so nice to see.
