I thought the chaotic, mutli failure, frustration was only Because I was bad at fixing things. This is the first time I have ever seen someone struggling like I do on UA-cam. thank you for posting.
I built my first piece of furniture a few weeks ago, which was my bedframe. I spent TWO HOURS alone just trying to match up one piece with the holes because they weren't alinged. Total build time took me nine hours on my own. Skipped work the next day as I was tired and didn't go to bed until after 3AM (I really wanted to get my new mattress to start decompressing so as to not have to spend longer sleeping on the air mattress. In fact, because I finished so late, I felt it would be terrible to inflate the bed at that hour as the pump sounds like a vaccuum and might wake my neighbors...so I slept on the floor. Oh...my poor back and hips. My neighbors had better not EVER wake me up with noise after giving them that level of courtesy 😡). And I guess I stressed myself out too much with building the thing as I fell sick the day after. Good thing the mattress had pretty much expanded to its full size in just one day, so I had a real bed to crawl into and be miserable as I fought to get better 😂. Anywho, you're not alone at the "being bad at building/fixing things", lol. And kudos if you can do creative solutions to a building problem like what Rachel did!
I'm just surprised fixing the couch only took one trip to the hardware store! They actually reused/repurposed supplies they had saved up from other projects. Though, I winced when they said a piece of staple was still floating around and Rachel wasn't wearing any safety glasses.
Trained sofa-maker here: Ironically, those springs are sold under the brand name NOSAG (like no-sag) and the plastic "thingy" that broke come in a metal variety as well (never heard of any of these ever breaking). I remember when we moved 1500 miles across the country, cat in tow, and at the hotel room when we opened the carrier he went to hide, we went to eat. Returned and he was nowhere to be found. Both my husband and I were crying by this point because we thought he got out and was over 700 miles from our previous home. Then we heard his tiny mew. He had found a hole in the box spring mattress and crawled up inside 🤣
@@ShadowSkyX our Mr. Milo normally doesn't make a sound when nervous but I think he was hungry and we got lucky between our sobbing over worrying him being lost. He also thinks with his stomach so I think he was like "I'm scared, but also food motivated and am hungry." We got lucky.
Poki ever the little rascal, he definitely isn't boring! I was laughing so hard at his meow and the pan over to his face at the window in the door. Always cool to see you two doing these types of projects! Great work to both and thank you for letting us see your mastery unfold!
I worked at a shop that repaired and reupholstered furniture. Newer couches and chairs SUCK in quality. And plastic components are a big part of it! So I fully agree with Rachel's hatred of plastic parts.
This reminds me there's a hole in the back of my couch that traps anything that falls into it, that I definitely need to sew up. Rachel's ingenuity in putting this back together was fantastic to watch! EDIT: Also, staple guns take so much hand strength to use, it's like a workout.
As someone studying furniture design at university, "it's not beautiful, but it's okay bc we're gonna cover it up" is so true. Upholstery can be like that a lot. Also that plastic clip on the sinuous spring is so weird. I haven't seen that many spring clips, but they've all been metal which seems like it would be cheaper too

Rachel's rant about crucial plastic-y pieces breaking and generally being unreliable is a MOOD! 💯👍👍 but even more impressive than your adorable cats is the SOLUTION you came up with 🤯🧠 💡👏👏👏. I'm pretty handy myself and the only solution I thought of right away given what broke is to nail/screw something that can hold the loop of the spring something really simple like a big nail bent to loop into itself or two screws bent together creating a loop for the spring to latch onto. that tiny screw solution is a Godsend it looks it, first time I've seen anything like it 👍👍
Remind me of my Grandad's rant about how model trains nowadays have a tendency to use plastic gears instead of brass but they are always rubbing against metal so the plastic will wear away much faster than brass. And model trains are expensive. 🤨

Best solution is to double the rope. First layer, tightly wound and stapled with the round (cable staples) every 10 cm in random places. Then the second layer (the wear one), which is wound from the top down, and cross stitched (two cords going around then twisted and going in the other direction). It creates a seam, which itself becomes the strong part of the whole thing. If you repeat this on both sides, alternating the "stitch" by one layer, then it's nearly impossible to get it unwound, torn or broken. It will wear eventually, and need replacing, but it's the superior method. Caveat, if your pole is already thick, then it will be considerably thicker than original, which is why i usually put a hard lumber pole, which allows it to be thinner (so like 4 cm oak pole vs a thicker, but lesser wood like pine, a bit more expensive, but worth it).
@@RachelandJunAdventures I can't suggest the best way to hold the rope down since your tower has dividers and usually i had just used the big staples that require a hammer, one on top and one on bottom. When looking for small, hard to see items on the floor, I lay a flash light on the ground and shine the light parallel to the floor. The light illuminates anything sticking up from the surface. Works well for me.
A piece of particle board under the cushions will fix that in no time. 😂 Also, do you mean I'm not the only one who uses the back of my Jeep as a mobile storage unit? 😱
How upset Rachel was about a broken drill-bit ... You need to remember people can do worse than that ... I for example broke 2 drill-bits in a row in a bech-drill and had ZERO experiences except watching some guy before ... hahaha and I felt soooo sorry as I broke the drill-bits ... the guy who ran the place just said "is ok, we have like 500 of these" haha
The tapered screws you have are meant for wood, they're pointed with wide threads to bite into wood with a little pressure and the tapered/countersink heads mean they sit inside the wood when you're done so a great choice for the job. :D
No one said it had to be beautiful, so long as its functional! Well done on the repair Rachel! Also Pichi is so in love with Poki they make me so happy
We had a couch when I lived in Japan that while upholstered, felt like it was constructed from concrete. Sitting on the floor, on the linoleum, was actually more comfortable..
Pichi is looking so much more relaxed with you guys now. I’m happy she’s living her best life with you guys and her three big brothers. Edit to add, Haku got a blep! Heehee 👅
Best takeaways from this video: "Good enough... probably" "Look at me achieving things. I'm so proud of myself." "No one said it had to be beautiful. I'm learning a lot"
I feel Rachel's pain when it comes to the staple gun! In art school we had to make our OWN canvases so that meant, sawing the wood the right lengths AND staple the TIGHT AS CRAP canvas to the wood. It was not fun. I am just like Rachel, a noodle but probably worse, I would snap like a branch.
Great job on the fix, Rachel! I've had many a MacGyver moment myself to solve repair issues - I was laughing at the rant about plastic parts since I have the same issue with them as well. Jun and the cats were great as your support crew. 😊
Rachel is really inspiring. I see that and I think "welp chairs broken. I dont know how that can be fixed" and Rachel sees it and goes "I can try to fix that!" And just DOES IT. I want to be more like Rachel
Good job Rachel! I’m with you, nobody said it has to be perfect if it works. Especially if you can’t see it. For future references: 1. When selecting size of drill bit to use, hold it up behind the screw you’re using. It should be the same width minus the threads. 2. Rubbing the screw along a bar of soap helps it go into the wood easier. Happy handiwomaning!
Rachel : I just stood up on it and it broke. Rachel forgot to mention that she was holding Poki, that's why it broke :D I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with DIY fixing stuff Nice work Rachel :D

When looking for small, hard to see items on the floor, I lay a flash light on the ground and shine the light parallel to the floor. The light illuminates anything sticking up from the surface. Works well for me.
Love seeing a raging rachel changed back into cute lovely rachel when the cats went inside ✨
i love when Rachel's being excited about somethin' and you can hear Jun chuckle
I love how every time Rachel is doing something and complaining about being weak Jun just keeps watching until he's explicitly asked to help lol
The more accurate title for this video would be “I FIXED the couch” good job with the power tools and creativity Rachel as always 😊💚
A piece of particle board under the cushions will fix that in no time. 😂
Also, do you mean I'm not the only one who uses the back of my Jeep as a mobile storage unit? 😱
Everyone does it. It's time we admit we're hoarders!
I'm a woodshop teacher and trust me. We go through so many of the thinner drill bits it's ridiculous, haha.
Pichi loves Poki so much, its cute. Like they share their ‘hard life’ stories and have found each other over it.
I found myself cheering Rachel on. Like yes! Fix that sofa! Replacing furniture is almost like replacing friends. It's never the same.
Rachel : *The creative Building them back*
Jun : *The coocker / The Helper*
Cat's : *C* *H* *A* *O* *S*
Everybody :
Rachel : HATES PLASTIC
Jun : need Ingredient
Cat's : doing chaos
We had a couch when I lived in Japan that while upholstered, felt like it was constructed from concrete. Sitting on the floor, on the linoleum, was actually more comfortable..
Miss Pichi is doing so well letting Jun pet her! I'm so proud of her! ☺
Rachel I am so freaking proud of you for figuring all that out and not giving up!
Rachel: Jun, film me with the couch
Jun: *films cats with Rachel and the couch in the background*
17:35 the best camera angle yet. It is so endearing aww💘
Pichi is looking so much more relaxed with you guys now. I’m happy she’s living her best life with you guys and her three big brothers.
Edit to add, Haku got a blep! Heehee 👅
This is REALLY like.. chaos ladder. 😅 i was yelling at the TV when the drill bit broke like C'MOOON GIVE HER A BREAK
ALSO. PICHI PATS. AAAAA❤
Best takeaways from this video:
"Good enough... probably"
"Look at me achieving things. I'm so proud of myself."
"No one said it had to be beautiful.
That's so cool that you had to make your own canvases! So resourceful and makes you really appreciate your artwork on a whole new level
Great job on the fix, Rachel! I've had many a MacGyver moment myself to solve repair issues - I was laughing at the rant about plastic parts since I have the same issue with them as well. Jun and the cats were great as your support crew. 😊
14:34 i love how Poky just creeps through the window while you're trying to eat
Pichi has come such a long way!!! Warms my heart to see how happy and comfortable she looks now!!
Rachel is really inspiring. I see that and I think "welp chairs broken. I dont know how that can be fixed" and Rachel sees it and goes "I can try to fix that!" And just DOES IT. I want to be more like Rachel
Just a suggestion if it breaks again a simple eye hook or a metal hose clamp (if you can wrap it around the wood) would do the trick. Much easier.
Honestly Rachel's rage about plastic being everywhere and breaking is completely understandable
Rachel forgot to mention that she was holding Poki, that's why it broke :D
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with DIY fixing stuff
Nice work Rachel :D
This channel just keeps getting better and better. This was the best couch fixing video ever
3:15 Rachel went into full "RAGE-L-MODE" 😂
Very creative DIY adventure! Fun tip: use a magnet to collect metal bits, and also to hunt for the missing shard that escaped.
Pichi and Poki are relationship goals
jun be like: this is why i love this woman... POKI STOP EATING MY HAIR!!!
3:16 Rachel's gone into Rage Mode!! (>▂
Thoughts and prayers for the comfy couch. RIP 😔
wow Rachel is so crafty ! that was amazing ! I would never have think to put a piece of wood there this way. Congratulations !
Me, if my couch were to break: "Welp! I guess that's why there are spare places on a couch. may it rest in peace."
Rachel, hen her couch breaks: *takes apart entire couch and builds it back*
Projects are so overwhelming for me. You're trying to do one thing and it turns into 29. Seeing Rachel power through it all, adapting, over coming, was really inspiring. I got a secondhand sense of accomplishment I'll try to ride into my own life and projects.
I really love this cat video with the sub plot of Rachel fixing a chair.
The Pichi intermission was so stinkin cuteeeeee
Love this video so much. Unfiltered Rachel and Jun is my fav type of video! I am so happy to see that you guys are doing so well now! ❤️
Yaaaay~ we had a Pichi sighting! 5:00
=D And she be hangin' out with Poki! 8:46
And here we see her get pets from Jun!
i saw the title before the thumbnail. and immediately knew it was rachel
I love how Rachel isn’t afraid to forge ahead and try to fix stuff! I’m just like that too but then I have always been single and didn’t have a dad or any brothers around to help with anything so if something broke I had to fix it or go without. Way to go Rachel and Jun! I love how you guys work together. You guys are proof that with love, respect and hard work you can overcome obstacles and large cultural differences and create a marriage that works!
You go girl! That was awesome, Rachel. You fixed the couch. So what if it took a while and required a trip to the store and it's not pretty inside. It worked.
Love how Jun always wears gloves to protect his hands. 😉
Whenever I get frustrated with a project I sing curse words to different Christmas tunes so my animals don’t think I’m upset lol. Great job fixing the couch! Now that was determination!
Rachel: Jun, I might need your strength
Jun: What? I'm being a supportive husband recording you trying to fix our couch
I like how the video pretty much dissolved into taking turns sitting with Haku at the end.
Great perseverance and ingenuity!!!
You help people to understand that we don't always need to throw something out because it broke. Congratulations 🎉
I love how Nagi casually comes to investigate the couch soon as Rachel opens it up and was like ,mooom I found it for you!” Lol 😂 my favorite part
love how the cats just decided the open couch should be their new hiding spot
