My father was a logger farmer and cowboy. He died when I was six years old. All my life his hat has been sitting on a shelf. I could never wear it because his head was a tad smaller than mine. Applied a little steam and it fits now. It means a lot to me to look in the mirror and see my dad looking back... Thank you for this.
Thanks so much for sharing this....would love to see it....you can share the photo on our business page: Facebook.com/HatsByGrizzMadeWithJoy
That sho' was beautiful. I still wear my Grandpa's Necktie out to Church. He passed in 1968 at age 62.
That’s a cool story! Thanks for sharing!
That was beautiful ❤
I looked at some useless stuff then saw this. These guys warmed my heart and told me simply how to to what I want done. A man who knows what's up. Thanks
I knew there would be someone old school on here that knew how to do this without buying a fancy gadget. Old school myself, always look for the simplest and cheapest solution a FIRST. Thanks! Subscribed!
This guy's awesome. Talk about 'low key' an' easy goin'. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the help! Just got a military wool cap & will try it with this.
I used a tea kettle to make the steam and then stretched it-- worked like a charm.
Cheers mate used the kettle worked a treat
You guys put some joy un my day!
Loved the warmth from both, will be following the advice, greetings from Sunny Somerset, England.
good to hear from you!
I.ve tried with the iron steamed and it workerd!👍 Thanks and have fun, man!🙏
Recently bought my first hat and quickly came to realize it's too tight! Your video is simple and instructive. The only problem was you stood too far from the camera and i could not understand your instructions very well. Nonetheless i thank and salute you from Greece. Wish you the best and thank you!! 😊
This man makes even a Scout from Sardinia, Italy like me feel at home. He knows how get things done, thanks Sir
Thank you so much!!
Good idea. I steamed my Scaly cap with a tea kettle which may have helped a little but not enough. I am looking at hat stretchers online.
This dude seems like a fun guy to be around! ha
Brilliant, thanks Grizz. I just need to enlarge my Fedora by about 5mm. Being English & living in England it's quite difficult to get a Fedora! I have wet the band & with leave it on for 6 days! Just kidding, I will force it on for 30 mins or until I pass out! Thanks Grizz, You're a star. All the best to you both.......
You have a very nice hat.
I like it . my hat got wet and shrunk some, I will try your method and see if it works out for me. Thanks
Much appreciated.
Awesome video....so funny!....Great tip that is going to help me a lot now...Thank you!!
Thank You for the Felt Hat Stretch Tips! We all just saw Custer's Retirement Job if he hadn't a got fatally killed up on Little Big Horn.
Thank you helped alot
Your Hats look very nice and the Sweatband looks much more comfortable then a Leather One plus it won't shrink on you. Thank you so much!
exactly!!!
@@hatsbygrizz-madewithjoy1241 What type of sweatband do you use on your hats? Thanks in advance

This is a precious video! It made me so happy! Thank you :)
Im about to try this. My grandfathers hat is way to tight for my head so I hope this works thanks
Please let know how it goes and if you need more help. Sometimes the sweatbands shrink. HatsByGrizz@gmail.com
This guy is a RDR2 npc and I love it.
I don't know why, but this guy reminds me of Keith Richards.
That is a completment as Keith is an exceptionally talented individual!!!
That's a fine lookin' hat!
You're cute. Very!
thanks!
Thus dude is awesome
Got a hat Stetson just the other day. First ever cowboy hat. A tad too tight. Leaves a slight red mark on my forehead. Gonna give this a try. Wish me luck.
Did it work?
@@drewbrown1880 Yep it mostly worked out. Definitely got it less snug. Still haven't worn it much, so it's not fully broken in. I'll prolly go back and steam it a little more to get it stretched.
I'm so sorry that I missed your comment. How did it go after multiple times?
@@hatsbygrizz-madewithjoy1241 Hey there! It's been a while since I've worn it, so I think it might have shrunk back to it's original size. The steaming definitely helped to shape the brim of the hat
finally some good content
Straight to the point , options . Can’t ask for more ❤ from Texas .
I wanted to tried this but as the hat had a liner inside I was at a loss as what to do. I didn't want to cut out the liner and rune the hat.
Lol "i like 6 days" Thanks for the advice!!!
Would it work with a bucket hat
WOW I want some of what these guys are on
It's called LIFE!....It's a beautiful thing!!!
Love it! 😂
Thanks
I’ve got my great grandpas Resistol Beaverskin hat that is a reproduction of Bob Evans (the restaurant guy)’s hat, and it’s always been a tiny bit too small to get down on my head since he gave it to me before he passed away. Thanks for the video, I’m off to boil a pot of water. I’m going to try to reshape the front of the brim to fold down, as it is the brim is up all the way around and it would hold an inch of rain lol.
Be sure and let us know how it goes!
Hats By Grizz - Made With Joy so far so good, I pulled the front of the brim down, slightly pinched the front of the crown and added small dents and rolled the sides of the brim up a little bit. I can definitely feel it stretch out when I put it on, I’m just keeping it on now until it feels dried out. I’ll wear it in the next video I post and leave a comment if you want to see the final result. Thanks again, you guys seem like a cool bunch that make quality stuff.
So did it work? I have a mink hat I need to enlarge but no bowl big enough!!
tricia melvin it did work, took a lot of cycles of holding it over the steam, stretching it and squeezing it on my head, but I was afraid of damaging it so I took it slow. Still didn’t take longer than a few hours as a side activity. As far as reshaping it, it looks like an entirely different hat and I’m very pleased with it. Still need to wear it in a video, but the virus has not been kind to ammo prices.
Handy tips! 😃
You guys r cool
What kind of hat is the one he is using Looks cool.. GN
This is too sweet lol
Gonna get me plews gathered up and order me one of them fine looking top knot covers.
Lol thank you 🙏
Any time!
Wonder if he makes moonshine as well brilliant information .
lol.....nope....but we know folks who do
My head is somewhere between 22 and 5/8ths to 22 and 7/8ths.
If I buy the 22 5/8ths is there enough give there to stretch it to 7/8ths if needed?
Never purchased a real, authentic hat before.
Better to go big. Felt hats tend to shrink some.
go bigger
Does this also appy to wollen hats? I've heard wool gets tighter with agitation, water and heat
Okay, so I was gifted a medium sized hat... but, I have a big a** head. I'm thinking a large. Would this help with that big of a stretch? Thank you so much
You can try but probably not without replacing the inner sweatband
What style hat is that? I love the shape, very unique.
I was thinking of buying the short brim Montana hat ( Mon Grizz ) from your website. By any chance does it come in a size 65? ( Larger than 25 inches )
@@4Bobay Please contact us in the online Etsy shop. We have made more than one hat at least 25 1/5" ..... but are fairly limited in color/style choices at that size. The MonGrizz we could definitely do! ..... The hat in the video is the Bates Hat.

This is what I was looking for awesome! But I have a problem that is that, do I have to remove the leather inside the hat or without removing the leather? Please help 🆘
Imli K Imchen did you ever find out?
@@shepdog1274 yes thank you.
@@Cowboy-e1c Did you have to remove the leather hatband on the inside before stretching it?
@@Detman101 sir, I have removed the leather and now it has become loose so I have to apply some idea thank you.
I'm so sorry....I had totally missed this question. The leather band in an old hat often shrinks up and has to be replaced when the hat is stretched. You can add an outer band that ties and pull it in a tad.
I have a Stetson cowboy hat and iTs a little small I might try this! Thanks lol 😂
Did you ever try this on your stetson?
@@Rudedude117 Yeah worked pretty good!!
Old leather sweatbands tend to shrink up a lot
Hi there does this work with hats made of straw?
What do you call that style hat !?!? I love that shape !!

my cat pissed on my hat and it got way too tight for my watermelon of a head after cleaning it, so tight that i couldn't just stretch it out through regular use 'cause I'd give myself too many migraines
eighty bucks saved with this video, and its still a damn good hat if a bit tight, thanks man
Now that's a story!!!
does like also work with the palm leaf hat
You can use steam to work palm but you have to be much more careful.
Cheeeeeeeerz m888 🤠
This is one of the best and most useful videos I have seen of late.
Does this work for rabbit fur felt hats?
yes...any felt hat
cool
You guys are funny. Thanks for the tips. We got there. haha
He is so cute
Tecnically not a problem...
Many peeps did that already
He just seated the hat
Lol
I order em 2 sises to small
Makes a bell shap to the hat
But fits insaly well
How about you get a hat that is built for your head alone....then it will have a legendary fit from the get go!
@@hatsbygrizz-madewithjoy1241
Im traditional
I cant believe this can be done!
I've got a hat that's just a 1/4 of an inch, or maybe 1/2 of an inch to narrow for my beautiful old dome. I bought it really as a joke, to wear to a party. But I damn near paid the full price for it too, it says 59 dollars on the inside. I paid 59 euros. Now, I see it's a Stetson, that means tradition. Don't ask me how I know that. But this Russian knows. A stetson hat is not a joke. You don't just throw it away if it don't fit. At least you find someone who wants it and give it away, because man-hours went into producing this thing.
Anyway, what I notice: The wool is uniformly compacted and the hat screams 'made in the good ol' usa', with love with quality and longevity in mind. Just as it used to be, when it actually mattered. As I said... it's too narrow form me, but, the thing is.. When it pours rain, you don't want to use one of your hands to hold a flimsy umbrella, and trust me it tends to pour when it first rains, here in middle-Europe (continental weather), ...I live in Berlin. I can wear the hat as it is, and it protects me from the rain, but it sits just a little bit too high to look and feel comfortable.
Dang me! I'm gonna try and stretch it! When I'm done, i'll wear it with me every day during the summer-rainy days, on my back on a leather strap/string like it don't mean nothing. And when the rain finally comes and err-body do run under roofs away from the rain or they try and struggle with the wind, keeping their flimsy umbrellas from breaking, I'm just going to pop that hat on my head and treat the rain as a good old friend that I haven't seen for a good 12 months.
Greetings from a Russian. I appreciate your culture! thanks for the tips. I'm going to stretch this wool thing. I understand how to treat it now.
how far can a hat stretch?
until it rips ....but you can really misshape it by trying to do too much
Tell Griz that this is too complicated for my feeble mind. I’ll bring my hat 🎩 to the SWRR and he can stretch it for me there. 👍🏼
I doubt we will be there at all and definitely not set up

Does griz make top hats?!?
Yes
@@hatsbygrizz-madewithjoy1241 do you have any videos of them
@@Jakki_G hmmm.....no actually I don't think so ... hadn't realized that. They require a double blocking. First normal then over the top hat block. But you can see some of the styles in the online shop.
you sure you can skin grizz?
You make the tight hat a bit loose.
Good info but the volume disparity between his and her voices is terrible.
Yes, this is a no budget video filmed from a hand held cell phone in our basement workshop. We understand that the lightning and sound are terrible but it is the only thing we can do at present.
I bought one which is more of a large than an extra large, so I will try taking a steaming hot shower while wearing it, and then jamming a wadded up bath towel inside there and leaving it to dry that way.
let us know how that worked
@@hatsbygrizz-madewithjoy1241 It did not work very well. Not stretchable enough. Kinda hurt my head after a while when I tried to wear it afterwards. I wonder if boiling water would have helped. Anyway, I ended up giving the new hat away to a friend who spends a lot of time in the sun and he seemed to like it. Nice Aussie Breezer hat with mesh for airflow.
