I have a felt cowboy hat that was a tiny bit too small, it was a 7, I wear a 7-1/8, I cut the sweatband out entirely and it fits perfect now

The best way to fix the problem is to find someone who fits the hat a give it a new home. Then find one that fits and problem solved 🤠

We absolutely agree that giving the hat to someone that could use it would be a great idea.
But in a pinch we want people to see ways to make their hat fit better if they can’t go buy a new one.

what about if it's too big???
I bought a Stetson and accidentally got a 23 ( 7 1/4 ) when I was supposed to get a 22 ( 7 )
I didn't understand how to measure correctly.
Every time I need to look up something it's always the complete opposite of what I'm looking for😡

There are better ways than cutting the sweatband out. The sweat band has a fishing string in the edge. Better to just nip it and you’ll get a more comfortable fit without taking out the sweatband. If it is too loose use painters tape inside the seat band to tighten it up.

Might be ok for a 40 dollar hat.Sure wouldn't do it to a good hat.

You're going to feel it on the front because of your bare forehead. I would still want to sweat bad there for my forehead and I would take out The access on the back. Either way it's going to loosen it up. But at least you're going to have the sweatband where you need it the most.

You can absolutely do that! This costumer requested the front so that’s what I did for this video but the back works great too!

I have found that you can try to stretch a hat but it will shrink back again unless you make the outside hatband larger.

I have a straw hat that's a little to tight on the sides it's a long oval. How can i stretch the sides

I would first try to take parts of the sweat band out if possible, then you can try using a hat stretcher sideways to see if you can get the sides to relax. Just know this may distort the brim.
Unfortunately straw hats can only take so much alteration and distortion, so if nothing works you may have to consider getting a new hat. Ordering the new hat a quarter size bigger will allow for more space and the ability to make it smaller and fit just right.

TERRIBLE idea to cut that out where your forehead skin will be rubbed by the uneven (sewing holes). TERRIBLE IDEA!
