Appointing the Dragonborn to be a Thane was an important political move. If the world can see that a legendary hero is working for Whiterun, that just scores the city some major points. Balgruuf knows how to play the game of thrones. He is skilled enough to be a good High King.
I dont think that Balgruuf had that in mind when he made you thane. Why would he? What would he gain? Whiterun is cool points? It's not like he any higher status to achieve. He runs a flipping hold! ALL the jarls in skyrim want u to be their thane after you help them. Also, I think that Balgruuf would care more about ruling his hold more than all of skyrim. Both jarls are great. The gray mane Jarl is respected by many because of his clans legacy. He cares for his people and always does what should be done. Balgruff is aware of the dragons and has not protected his citizens by building up better walls and making the buildings of stone. During the siege of whiterun during the stormcloak side, the stormcloaks easily climb past the wooden stakes in front, then passing the gate and draw bridge into the city. The trebuchets easily burn down the wooden buildings too. And for the fact of your siding in the civil war… I used to support the stormcloaks because they were the underdogs and spoke “truth about Skyrim” that is false. His reason to revolt is the fact that he needs to face the thalmor threat. But the thalmor threat is supplying him discreetly, and they tried to stop the execution that’s why she was at helgen talking to tulius. The imperial people also don’t support the white gold concordat. Yet they stay together because they know they need complete strength to build up and destroy the threat down south. But the Nordic warrior, arguably the best warriors, not helping would greatly decrease the chance of winning.

White run must have been powerful to be able to keep out of the civil war as long as it did. It is easily one of the most powerful holds in Skyrim. If you were to rank the holds by the power they wield, what would the list look like?
Hello my dear friend, I just discovered your channel and subbed! You make really great content. just started to get deeper into TES lore but am quite new here :D maybe you could give me some tipps on where to start and learn the basics, whats important to know before you get started to learn about tamriels history? it all seems so all over the place. thank you :)
The implications of Jarl Balgruff having one, possibly two, dead wives and Mephalas Ebony Blade locked away in a very obscure room noone is likely to just stumble on in his basement with only him and his court wizard having access and knowledge to it.....
Clearly a better Jarl than Ulfric or Elisif which is why he should be High King as realizes that destroying the Empire would only weaken Skyrim's military and economic power which makes it more vulnerable to the Aldmeri Dominion. Ulfric may be an inspiring leader but he is just too ignorant of the fact that the Thalmor are using him and his rebellion to weaken Skyrim and by extension the Empire. If Ulfric succeeded in his rebellion then cooperation between Stormcloak Skyrim and the Empire against the Thalmor becomes much more difficult, I will not be surprised if during the Second Great War the Thalmor would drive another wedge between Stormcloak Skyrim and the other Imperial Armies which lead to more military confusion, disarray and distrust enabling the Thalmor to easily destroy both factions. Elisif doesn't strike me as an impressive leader and she clearly is dependent on General Tullius for military affairs and her court of advisers such as Falk Firebeard for the administration of her hold. A True High King or Queen should be likely be a capable warrior and have the political competency to administer the country, these qualities are important in order to gain the trust and respect of the Nordic people in Skyrim.
There are only Imperial Legion fanboys in the comments, the Stormcloaks are better than the Imperial Legion and the choice of Stormcloaks is the right choice for Skyrim and Tamriel
The primary reason I always pick the Imperial's side is because Jarl Balgruuf can stay on the throne. Even before I knew the Imperials were in their rights, seen the lore.
So you approve religious persecutions, tortures and all the corrupt things the imperial supporters make in the game, only for saw Balgruuf in the throne? Better be neutral than supports a decadent empire.
Why are you insulting people who like the Stormcloaks? And why do you feel superior to them? You have a weak ego and you need to strengthen it. But don't do it. Don't insult people.
I find that siding with the empire is the best choice for skyrim and tamriel as a whole as a broken Empire will be easy for the Dominion to take over, but I think that Elisif is a poor jarl that would make a poorer queen. Ulfric's a better leader from most angles, being more charaismatic and able to make his own desisive decisions, but his ideaologies are too extreme and would cause more trouble for Skyrim than anything. Balgruuf is thereby the best option, being the best of both worlds with good leadership qualities, not being extreme, and siding with the Empire. He should definetely be the High King.
Also, I'd like to point out that Balgruuf isn't indecisive, the reason he doesn't want to join either side at the beginning of the game is because he's not a fan of either option. He hates the Thalmor and wants to stick to the old Nord ways, but he sees Ulfric's plan as bad for the future. When you side with the Imperials he says he's going to demand that Tulius make some changes if he wants Whiterun's support, showing that he was holding off more because he was afraid of what joining them might cost him.
A very intelligent and thoughtful jarl who cares not only about his people but their futures too, unlike Ulfric who cares not for his people only for himself! Balgruuf would never take Ulfric's side because he knows this and he knows he murdered the high king for his own gains!
On my first ever play through of Skyrim I instantly went for storncloaks "rebelius , corrupt empire, early fucking propaganda from minute 5, seeker of independence" then I actually learned about the more during that timeline. Yea I'll never ever join the storncloaks ever again lol . They are a choice but they are a foolish choice that will fuck up the only force that is barely holding the Dominion away . For gameplay standards you can pick any you want with minor changes but roleplay wise the storncloaks are one terrible idea to pick.

Hail! Jarl B of W is a dude! A great leader.
he has a new rap album coming out soon called jarl ballin
Hello my dear friend,
I just discovered your channel and subbed!
Flyest fry cook in Skyrim
WHAT ABOUT BAALGRUUF THE LESSER?
You sound like the guy in the alchemy room in dragons reach
He literally doesnt die during the civil war tho lmao he lives in the basement of the blue palace after he loses
Roly poly tumbly wumbly

DID YOU NAME YOUR LAPTOP YET AND U SEE MY SUGGESTION
Balgruuf is as he's name says great you the dragonborn and balgruuf can cool down the civil war
I have to say another good leader is vignar gray man the only difference is he joins the stormcloaks
Swag, swag, swag, swag
I think balgruuf the greater deserves to be high King
I love this channel lol
Jarl balguuf should be high king he a true Nord and respect the Empire he the only good candidate for skyrim
Balgruff clearly had a mistress, why would he hide the identity of his son's mother from his son and the rest of the court otherwise?
Ingrid got jelly and killed both his wife's in a vain hope to have him for herself.
Yes. This was total not just from the top of my head.
You dont kill balgruf
Everytime I kick him out of whiterun I regret it
Well, he choose to side with the puppets of the Dominion, so no regrets for me.
Jarl B should be High King and marry Elisif
7:36
Damned faithless imperials
The primary reason I always pick the Imperial's side is because Jarl Balgruuf can stay on the throne. Even before I knew the Imperials were in their rights, seen the lore.
So you approve religious persecutions, tortures and all the corrupt things the imperial supporters make in the game, only for saw Balgruuf in the throne? Better be neutral than supports a decadent empire.
Jarl Skald > all the Jarl's
Triggered Stormcloak fankids in 3, 2...
Dovahkiin PaleoKnight not triggered but a lazy king is not a good king
TheWolfPaladin 1 except he is not lazy, otherwise he would have joined a side for personal gain
TheWolfPaladin 1 that description matches that milk drinker Ulfric. He only wants to hand Skyrim to the Thalmor by weakening the Empire
Why are you insulting people who like the Stormcloaks? And why do you feel superior to them? You have a weak ego and you need to strengthen it. But don't do it. Don't insult people.
@@ravaxander4492 Cry about it
This guy is the only reason I went with the legion
The best jarl, Vignar Gray-mane can’t top Balgruuf
lol not if you play stormcloak

Balgruuf the Greatest*
Skyrim Belongs to Whiterun!!!
Woah wait, you kill Bulgruuf? Ive played the civil war, and all the defeated yarls just hang out in the kitchen of the blue palace.
True nords join Balgruuf.
I know it’s a free choice but everyone that sided with the storm cloaks has simply lost all sense for reality 😪🤦🏻♂️
I'm your 666 like 😈Muhahaha
First like :D
On my first ever play through of Skyrim I instantly went for storncloaks "rebelius , corrupt empire, early fucking propaganda from minute 5, seeker of independence" then I actually learned about the more during that timeline. Yea I'll never ever join the storncloaks ever again lol . They are a choice but they are a foolish choice that will fuck up the only force that is barely holding the Dominion away . For gameplay standards you can pick any you want with minor changes but roleplay wise the storncloaks are one terrible idea to pick.
