Excellent. All five flashbacks of the chapter five of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series in a single video and in chronological order. That is precisely my favorite part of that chapter.

The reply of "Are you?" back to his Master from a Padawan, reeks of arrogance... and shows in the rest of the fight... he has not yet passed his trials and already overconfident.
I just saw this scene without the music! It lost so much! That is the beauty of music, specially when it's so well done! Takes something good and makes it beautiful!
1:20 One thing I like about this particular moment is that the strike that Anakin is using right now is the same that Luke used on him in "Return of the Jedi", that eventually overpowered him and ended up losing his hand because of it. I immediately thought of this.
It’s crazy how they train with the intent to kill lol like what would you tell yoda… “master yoda me and anakin were training and I accidentally sliced him in half” 😅
There is, technically, settings on the lightsaber for it's power output, blade length, etc. It's never addressed at all in any shred of the actual films, or animated works, or anything other than legends and possibly some like, canon, Disney website that explains the lore now. But yes, there's a training mode basically for sabers, but it's basically up to your interpretation if you think they're being used in scenes like this imo
I think these scenes were brilliant. They truly highlight how despite Anakin winning against him, Obi Wan refuses to accept that Anakin is progressing so quickly. This is exactly what made their relationship break slowly overtime. Anakin wanted to be a great warrior, but Obi Wan kept trying to slow him down. You can see Anakin's confidence shatter towards the end of this training.
Thats not the point of what it was saying it was highlighting anakin not being a normal jedi in his personality which made him susceptible to turning. It also shows how vader adapted some of his knowledge even after turning, such as how he disarms reva without a lightsaber
I love how this really does show why Anakin fell to the dark side. While Obi Wan tried to be a mentor to him, he saw a rival. Everything with Obi Wan was competitive. And yes, more often than not, it was written off as playful banter, you could tell that Anakin's ego was being whittled away. He felt inferior to Obi Wan, which fed into his anger and lust for power.
Anakin looks so crestfallen when Obi Wan tells him, “Your need for victory, Anakin, it blinds you.” Hayden Christianson is a good actor, it’s a shame he didn’t get a lot of good directing in the prequels.
Yes, you are correct; this *is* something very distant from what a Jedi should say. That was a statement made by an Obi Wan blinded by pride in his student, an emotion the Dark Side is always seeking to take advantage of. When Yoda tells Luke that _”wars not make one great,”_ he speaks through personal experience; he survived the clone wars, Order 66, and the atrocities the Empire committed. It’s a lesson that he personally learned from a lifetime of being at war with the Dark Side. This clip takes place *during the clone wars,* when Jedi were becoming disillusioned with their order’s purpose and began to see themselves as warriors and fighters, rather than a peaceful monkhood. Yoda and Mace Windu expressed concern that the Jedi were losing their way with the good side of the force before the clone wars broke out; Mace Windu explicitly tells Palpatine *”we’re keepers of the peace- not soldiers.”* Yoda’s apprentice quit the Jedi order when he became discouraged that the Jedi knights were not doing enough to maintain peace in the galaxy, and Qui Gon was repeatedly chastised by the council for being “a maverick” and following what they perceived as his instincts, (actually the Living Force) rather than the high council’s instructions. Yoda would later take all of these lessons to heart during his isolation in the swamps of Dagobah, and during his training of Luke Skywalker.
Love seeing these two again! They act so well off each other and honestly, if this series was ALL flashback scenes of Obi Wan self reflection it would have made the series Leagues better!
Can we all come to an agreement that this scene only can be officially part of the prequel trilogy we needed more scenes like this of Obi Wan and Anakin Training together
Not really, at this point in time they were about equal in ability. In fact in their final duel, Anakin had already surpassed Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan was the worst opponent possible for Anakin because of his patience and smarts. Any other master except for Yoda and Windu would be defeated by Anakin.
0:23 It’s so good to see Ewan and Hayden working together again. I feel like almost no time has passed since AOTC. They both play their parts perfectly, even after all these years. 0:51 to 1:00 Both Obi-Wan and Anakin have a point. You shouldn’t let your emotions cloud your judgement, but you also shouldn’t be afraid to do what you have to do. 1:10 , 1:46 , 1:54 and 2:11
Wouldn't the characters (not the real life actors) want to use "non-energy" swords for Jedi Training duels, to ensure that no one gets killed? You know, something like what real life athletes use in the sport of Fencing. If a mistake happens with a Lightsaber, you've got either a dead Padawan, a dead Jedi, or both. To quote Obi Wan: "Oh, NOT GOOD!"
the power of a saber can be turned up or down to match the user’s purpose - decreased for training and increased for more intense battles. Placed in training mode - the blades are not deadly but deliver a shock to those hit by them instead. This allows the Jedi in training the chance to wield a proper weapon without the risk of damaging themselves or their Master.
Ahh yes! Take me back to 2005! It’s like revisiting a memory of that year I wasn’t aware or privy to. Love it. Love that they made a scene like this and included it in the show.
It amazes me how we didn’t see Anakin turn. Of course this scene wasn’t in Attack of the clones but you see it so clearly in this scene his initial fall to the dark side. When we slaughtered the sand people like animals in ep. 2 we felt saddened as he did something against the Jedi code. But we were happy that he was happy with Padme even his he didn’t like sand. There’s a deleted scene where Obi wan talks to padme where he knew Akakin was in love her but he kept silent because his “brother” was finally happy. In some ways Obi Wan allowed Ani to fall to the dark side but how could you tell your brother not to be happy? Truly a conflicting thing. I haven’t seen episodes 1-9 in chronological order but I’d like to. Episodes 1 and 2 are a bit difficult to get through as they are a little slow but fantastic movies nonetheless!
"Mercy doesn't defeat the enemy" sounds like something Darth Vader would say, not Anakin. Even at the beginning, Anakin was beginning to be overtaken by darkness. What a sad butterfly effect his life was.
It’s ironic how Hayden, who had one of the most questionable performances in the prequels was BY FAR the best part of this series. After his performance here, I want to see him do some other stuff outside of Star Wars.
@@bernardoayres1139 that makes sense but in general, those who think he put up a “brilliant performance” or something in the prequel trilogy are going a little too far.
@@TOFKAS01 agreed. I think the romance and chemistry between the two ranged from straight up terrible to okay at best. I’m not the biggest prequel fan, I don’t think the first two are very good (especially TPM) and ROTS isn’t perfect, either, it’s like an 8.5/10. However, one of the things I do have to give the prequels credit for was the chemistry between Hayden and Ewan, which was pretty solid in the prequels and pretty solid here.
Hayden is a good actor. Can read his very being from his facial expressions that are very expressive From his pride in overpowering obi wan and seeking approval from him to utter hurt and resentment
Anakin is a strategist and military and combat genius but his emotions and his competitiveness to be the strongest and the best is what drove him to his downfall plus remember Anakin had no problem with killing and losing Ahsoka and padme
I feel this is the scene that shows why Anakin being a Jedi master may never have happened even if he didn’t fall. There is no denying that Anakin was truly a powerful swordsman, and a very skilled force wielded. But he confused “Power” with Wisdom. Sure, he was a good teacher and general, but in the end his desire to win at all costs cost him everything.
@@preciousotoakhia9789 from the looks of it: Order 66 was inevitable the moment Episode 3 started. Palpatine had every piece in place, amounted all the power. Even if Count Dooku hadn’t been killed, there would have been enough doubt that would give Palpatine time to set his plan in motion. Anakin’s fall just ensured that the destruction of the Jedi temple was a guarantee.
This was the redemption of Christensen. He had years to let Revenge and especially Attack of the Groans play on his mind, but then he came back for Kenobi a truly changed man. I always knew Hayden was a good actor, I saw Shattered Glass, but then we saw what he can do with Anakin as long as he had a good script. Although if it were up to me I wouldn’t have gone with Obi Wan apologising during the final confrontation. I would’ve led with “I killed you once Anakin, happy to do it again.”
The part where Obi wan says Anakins need to prove himself is his undoing really calls back to episode 3 where Anakin tries to jump over Obi wan, he tries to prove he’s more powerful and can make the jump
That's the funny thing about Anakin, he had unmatched raw power. But to use it properly he needed to listen to people with more experience. Obi Wan sees Anakin's flaws and tells him what to avoid. But Anakin is too cocky to listen
Even though Anakin cared about Obi-Wan and loved him as a brother he also always had an inferiority complex towards Obi-Wan which was part of his desire to prove he was more powerful than his master. I also think that each of their history with their loved ones mirrored one another in the opposite way- Obi-Wan had feelings for Satine but never ended up with her and Anakin did fall in love with Padmé and married her as a side point to my opinion.
The only funny thing is that Obi Wan tells Anakin exactly what he needs to do and Anakin ignores this. Leading to Anakin losing 1 limb to Dooku and the other 4 to Obi Wan on Mustafar. If Obi Wan only fed Anakin's ego that wouldn't have improved him. What Anakin needed to do was suck it up and listen
@@karolclark791you do realize that’s the point of the prequels that Obiwan didn’t properly train Anakin. A Jedi master must train their Padawan by example not by wisdom. From Anakins perspective Obiwan is just being a sore loser while Obiwan meant his own Hubris blinded him to this.
@@karolclark791That’s not how being a teacher works. “Suck it up and listen” is not a strategy that’s going to create a successful student. Obi’s problem was that he only knew how to teach according to the dogmatic, dispassionate Jedi way. What Anakin really needed was someone who understood and connected with him on an emotional level, like Qui-Gon.
@@karolclark791 The whole point of the prequels (and the sequels touched upon it as well) was that the Jedi's dogma was their own undoing. Ashoka is a perfect example of a Jedi that also had wild tendensiess but still managed to stay in the light. Qui-Gon would have been the perfect master for Anakin which is what makes his death so tragic.
That’s what he did. Anakin was highly traumatised when he was a youngling. And Palpatine exploited this by manipulating his inferiority complex, by makeing him belive that he was « special» and deserved to cut steps in his « mental» training. Obi wan can see his inferiority complex feeds his need for control and victory. He try’s to warn him about the danger of his need for admiration. But he is allready lost. What Anakin never learns is to control his emotions and his fear of suffering and death. All his rage and power can never give him « insight». This was also Palpatines grip over him. He never told him the truth of the force and life. Instead he manipulated him into beliveing he would share his insights and power. Instead he gave him power, but never the insight. The Truth was simple and infront of him all the time. There never was a way to control all things 100% or to stop death or suffering. The dark side could not change it, nor could the empire or the force for that matter. In the end Anakin’s narcissism consumed him
I loved the lesson Obi Wan tried to install in Anakin, that the Jedi didn’t aim to win but instead to negotiate for peace, and that anakins fighting style showed how aggressive he was to his opponent, even though as a Jedi it’s not exactly the aim to be fighting . The chemistry between these two is just wonderful!! It reminds me of the clone wars !!
Unfortunately for Obi Wan, Anakin had Palpatine telling him things he wanted to hear. Also with the war Palpatine orchestrated, it was a means for Anakin use his aggressive and brash nature to his advantage.
0:51 if both guys were on defense, it wouldn’t be a fight, it’d be happiness and joy or a conversation. There always has to be one person on offense for it to count. Fighting would be: Offense - offense ✅ Offense - defense✅ Defense - offense ✅ Defense - defense ❌

1:21 His son Luke attacked Vader in anger and after that Luke cut off Vader's arm
I'm just happy to see these two sharing scenes again.
Anakin looks so crestfallen when Obi Wan tells him, “Your need for victory, Anakin, it blinds you.” Hayden Christianson is a good actor, it’s a shame he didn’t get a lot of good directing in the prequels.
He's an awful actor. But over the years he at least got to know how to play this character
The true amazing strength of obi wan.
"You are a great Warrior Anakin" - Obi Wan
"Wars not make one great" - Yoda
I feel like the lines are so distant from the source.
Yoda and Mace Windu expressed concern that the Jedi were losing their way with the good side of the force before the clone wars broke out; Mace Windu explicitly tells Palpatine *”we’re keepers of the peace- not soldiers.”*
Yoda’s apprentice quit the Jedi order when he became discouraged that the Jedi knights were not doing enough to maintain peace in the galaxy, and Qui Gon was repeatedly chastised by the council for being “a maverick” and following what they perceived as his instincts, (actually the Living Force) rather than the high council’s instructions.
Yoda would later take all of these lessons to heart during his isolation in the swamps of Dagobah, and during his training of Luke Skywalker.

"Damn kid stop growing you're fking huge"
I actually prefer that they didn’t deage him much, feels more like a celebration of the character rather than an actual portrayal
the high ground is not a physical place, but rather a being, that obi wan embodies fully and has mastered :)
I love how Obi Wan easily disarms Anakin at the end without using a lightsaber himself. He was going easy on him the whole time.
Exactly.
He wasn't trying to win, Anakin was treating it like an actual fight and failed to learn the lesson.
They’ll learn to react calmly in the face of death
The sabers have training mode, that's why Obi-Wan lightsaber doesn't damage floor in 1:45
the power of a saber can be turned up or down to match the user’s purpose - decreased for training and increased for more intense battles. Placed in training mode - the blades are not deadly but deliver a shock to those hit by them instead. This allows the Jedi in training the chance to wield a proper weapon without the risk of damaging themselves or their Master.
@@SithknightofRen That's very interesting. Is this canon or just a theory?

This is so wholesome

Hayden is a good actor. Can read his very being from his facial expressions that are very expressive
From his pride in overpowering obi wan and seeking approval from him to utter hurt and resentment

Hayden's ability of handling the light saber hits a different level as always.. love to see him fighting ❤
But was his fall true reason order 66 and empire rose became a reality
@@preciousotoakhia9789 from the looks of it: Order 66 was inevitable the moment Episode 3 started. Palpatine had every piece in place, amounted all the power. Even if Count Dooku hadn’t been killed, there would have been enough doubt that would give Palpatine time to set his plan in motion.
Anakin’s fall just ensured that the destruction of the Jedi temple was a guarantee.

Anakin was actually right. The Jedi permitted too much evil. I truly hated how the Jedi were portrayed in the Prequels.
I kept seeing this clip on UA-cam and thought to myself that this is a deleted scene from Aotc
Notice that he has a mix of both superiority and inferiority complex. Anakin has narcissistic personality dissorder
Obi-Wan hasn't failed Anakin. He was a good teacher!
Funny enough Obiwan is ignoring Anakins needs in this scenario and undercutting his confidence which only feeds into his need to prove himself.
I never realized how goofy two guys fighting with laser sticks was
Obie wan trains to be mindful of his thoughts and actions. If I were obie wan I'd give homework to Anakin...
