Our big tractor was a 1949 Oliver 88. Our drill was a Superior 7 foot ground driven for wheat in Indiana.
i had set-up; All Massey; 4840 4wd pulling 3x 15' = 45' / 1805 4wd pulling 3x 15' =45' / 1150 2wd pulling 2x 15' = 30' for a total of 120' per round . We had snow 6" of snow on June 5. We seeded 500 acres per day ( in the late 80's) On a 4500 acre farm.
The most common salutation upon leaving was . . I'LL SEED YOU LATER ;)
Please keep them coming you make us Canadians proud.
Love the old and new.
Love the Massey. Great ole tractors. Had a 1100 Massey tractor when I was growing up on farm.
It's great to see the old equipment. Still have 2 1105's and an old 1100MF. My favorite tractor was the 1570 Case , really like the 70 series.
Love it. That's even getting back to my roots. Thanks , brings back memories. God Bless all
Thanks! Mine too 😢
@@mikemitchell2554 Here in my Farm we love your videos man (Some of us understand English, and the others see the videos and we explain what you are talking about)!! Here we also Farm just like you, with Energy and everyone happy... I know that you speak some Spanish, so: Saludo grande desde Argentina!!
And i hope you see this video made from you, a very funny and interesting video: ua-cam.com/video/wYakhvHp2Fw/v-deo.html
I really like seeing these older farm machines working. Extremely interesting.
The funniest thinng for me is that we are stil using those old planters on our farm
Its not a funny thing really. Not everyone farms 40,000 acres and can afford 10 fancy air drills. A lot of farms still use the older grain drills. You watch to much you tube farm clips.
Yup, in much of the world farm equipmemt is old and small. Tend to think shiny tractors and truck are a waste of money but thet sure are nice.. 😉
@@7rixee not from the Midwest are you lol.
@@kluckfabrication5991 Lol, no.. But I have worked there for a bit. Twas a guy who had old equipment and kept buying a quarter a year minimum. Needless to say i respected him immensely.
My dad's biggest tractor was a Massey 1105. I spent many hours as a kid on the floor of the cab. It brings back lots of memories.
Great that you show the day from days gone bye.
Great to see these old seeders working
Very interesting video! Those discers look a little ungainly. You take care.
Really enjoyed
It's interesting for us non-farmers to see the evolution of machines as the technology has improved. Definitely would enjoy seeing more of the older stuff in action.
I used a massey 36, 12 foot discer for many years. I could turn to the left at the square corners, but not too sharp. This brings back memories.
Thanks for showing me the old-school way. That is neat.
Love the massy we have the same tractor but no cab we ran the hell out of the tractor for a long time it still runs great to this day
That was the first thing I ever ran I was like 9 years old different disks and a old case tractor but was wasent for seeding my dad used to use them to work wet spots way back in the day ... I just remembered that watching this vid.. dad and grandma would have seeded with them tho nice!
that was absolutely fabulous!! I have never seen anything like that. So great for you to do this, hope you can use it to seed again.
We had 3 18 foot Massey 360 discers pulled by a late 70s Case 4490 traction king
Childhood memories for me.
I think we need a machinery boot hill tour.
it’s nice to see old equipment still bigger then we had 11run Massey Harris
Wow! One week New Gen6 Fendt with plastic on the seats to birds flying around cab of Massey 1105. Never know what Mike will bring for content. Awesome!
Love to see you resurrecting the old iron!!!!
Yep, that brings back memories. The centre of the field would end up in the fences over time. Lol.
My favorite tractor on the farm. Go Ernie!
Trip down memory lane is always refreshing and good for realizing how far things have come !!!Gotta show us the rest of how this all works !
the old days of farming, love it.
What an age we live in.
I started my agri-contracting career in 1973,driving my fathers Fordson Super Major, with a 6ft mower cuting a couple of hundred acres per year.
Now I run a Fendt 930 Gen 6 with 35ft Triple mowers,cutting 5,000 acres per year.
Just awesome. I love the Massey equipment!
I always enjoyed sowing with the discer.
Thanks again for the videos, I first started planting with a International 1466 and a 620 press wheel planter 12 foot. Those where great days.
My Grandpa ran 4 Co-op discs back in the day that I believe he ran all 4 hooked together with an old Gleaner combine and Allis Chalmers tractors. I wish I would have gotten to see his operation in action but he retired shortly after I was born and all his equipment sat in his yard and rotted away.
Love that old iron
Going to look forward to seeing these sow some seed, Always great seeing the older stuff work.
I love that Massey, good old tractor that serves a purpose ( or at least it used too)
That’s a nice looking combination! Hope to see it again in the future too!
These are in excelent condition. Some of our equipment looks worse after one or two winters. Probably because off these dry winds you get there.
The bird in the cab lol
i love using older stuff like that more fun
Great stuff Mike! Love the Massey equipment, we have two old Massey tractors.
My dairy farm neighbor had this same tractor only with the V8 diesel. Cut silage with it for years.
That’s super neat! Hope we see a vid of them being put to work!👌
It would be cool to find a small grain cart for it to pull next the Massey 760 combine. Hopefully one day you could get those other drills running and pull them around with the new tractors love the old farm equipment easier to fix
Dad's first grain cart was a 35 bushel wagon box on steel wheeled trucks pulled by a big team of horses. Took the grain off the new (1948) Massey-Harris 15 pto combine pulled by a Massey-Harris 102 senior tractor. He got a used IHC truck as a replacement as the team couldn't keep up with the job in 25 bu/acre wheat.
@@wssides ya now these new combines hold the horse and cart and the truck they came along way but the horses are cheaper
@@jasonclark3127 That argument is long over. Tractors replaced horses because they were (and are) far cheaper per acre farmed. Dad farmed two quarters with 14 head of horses that had to be fed 365 days a year which meant growing or buying feed for them. Water twice a day winter and summer which meant a lot of time on the pump handle. Replacement cost of a horse was and is high.
@@wssides ya these green people want to take us back to it and your right horses and mules are a 24 7 365 where a tractor turn key off plus a flat tire on a horse you had to shoot it
I do like Ernie, he's a very cool tractor.
Thanks for bringing us along Mike
My father pulled 3 IH 16 ft DISCERS most of his farming career until he retired. Pulled by a Versatile 875 turned up a bit on his 1000 acres just out side of Winnipeg.
I bought our farms JD AR back a few years ago
Man you make me nostalgic when i start farming on a 2wd Deutz fahr...
I used to have two 15 foot 360s they planted lots and lots of acres as far as discers go there probley one of the best. They still have there place but hard to move
Grew up on an 1135. Love to have it back.
That look like cool set-up
This is really interesting stuff Mike, brings back good memories, keep them coming buddy.
Love to see you do ten acres with old massy and see what the yeld would bring at th end of the year then compare it te to the other fields you do
Great video. I like to see more of the old machines
Would be awesome to See these things seed
Awesome I seeded a fair bit of ground with two Massey 12 ft diskers pulled with a 1206 International
That setup looks awesome! I hope we will see you seeding with that setup in the future
I seen you took my tractor out for a good drive good to see it I'll be glad when you finish and work on it I've always asked a question but I never get an answer I'm one of your shows I'll try again when you store the peas into the bag what did you do when you didn't have the bags back then how did you store it another question I see your seed planter has a bent wheel in the front what happened to it anyway I hope you have a pleasant day and God bless🙏🚜
Very interesting.
Great awesome video mike, love this video the best , the old stuff is how I learnt too , I learnt from a international 510 grain drill and a international cyclo 400 corn planter
My main setup is an old 36 one-way disc similar to those that I pull with my 1150.
With all that wind that’s why you need fences and trees! They learned that in Kansas.
Trees steal the moisture from the ground that the crops need. Trees don't do well where straight line winds rule either.
It's always interesting to me how much of your equipment sits outside in such harsh winter conditions. Interesting.
Still plant with them.very little maintenance
We had an old JD drill on our farm. Didn't even have hydraulics. Pulled it with a 4020 and then a white 1370 Case.
Old iron is fun 😀
nice video , I like the old Massey ferguson machinery . Love to see more of this .
We still run a 2 360 diskers to seed with lol.
Haha that's awesome!
That massey needs to be turned up and add some duals. ha.
I know you have a big operation requiring more modern equipment. There is a lot to be said though for simplicity. Those are simple. Thanks for the walk around.
Cant wait to see you plant with this set up!!!!!!!
Never seen these sort of things before, I like your idea of playing around Mike. It must have taken ages to seed the farm with those things, an they don`t look like the hold much seed/fert either.
Pretty neat
I was watching the episode when you were going around the power line poles and had thought of suggesting of why not use an old smaller seed drill to just go around the poles if you had one handy. Now I know that you have one handy, I offer that suggestion. How practical it would be to take a slower tractor and a smaller seed drill to do just those areas is difficult for someone who grew up on a much different Welsh 🏴 hill farm to gauge as I have no idea of the distances involved between your base and the location where you were seeding.
The left turn only operation reminds me of making an "e" pattern on one side of our farm where the RR tracks cut through at an angle.
Also had to be really careful when using the drag harrow. If you turned too short, it could get caught by the rear tractor wheel and pull the implement right up on top of you and the tractor.
I think back about how unsafe farming could be 60-70 years ago. Fortunately things have gotten a lot better. But safety still has to be #1.
Fun video Mike! Thanks!
never seen a seed drill like that, really interesting thanks!
Awesome content !!! Love it !
Great looking unit Mike! Definitely would make a great video if you had the time to get it into seeding mode. Most old machinery on the prairies has been either sold for scrap or dismantled to make other things!!
Great video. You have some serious bin storage there. Woohoo! Looks like you might want to invest in a seat cover for it before you have to sit on steel 😜. Those are cool. Love seeing where we've come from. Hate mice as well.
Luv the those multipower they were great
Nice rig and looks like you also have a bad tire on the left rear on the seeder. Also 1105 mf 1973-1978
In Australia we actually have these but they are called a one-way plough we use them for ploughing country up we actually have a thing called a combine I still use my Howard Bagshaw combine what my pop had back in the 80s I've got a couple of these one way ploughs but they're a Chamberlain brand
True the cab needs bringing back but amongst old tractor devotees, there are two camps, the wipe over with an oily rag brigade and the complete restoration boys, you will have some small farmers drooling at the condition of your (redundant equipment).
Nice video Mike. Bringing back memories.
Grew up using John Deere D’s.
Didn’t have to worry about birds in the cab because cabs didn’t exist .
Did have to be concerned with seagulls shitting on you so good idea to always wear a hat.
😂🦅🤣
Amaizing how well kit keeps outside in your climate looking forward to more
Im interested in seeing the drills in transport position . Great video Mike
Pretty cool mike. Thats a nice looking setup. Guus around here still use similar setups to drill wheat. We call drills like that with disks a disk drill. And if it has shanks like your air seeders we csll thsm a hoe drill. Thanks for sharing. I love seeing ole ernie
Thanks Mike! Enjoyed the video!
Love seeing these history come to life videos. Most everyone watching will never see one of these ran.
I've pull a lot normal press disk drills a lot and with the large folding I would never had thought about this style being made.
Mike you make awesome videos and I’m always entertained. Love seeing Ernie out and about. You made me think of Spaceballs and “ludicrous speed”. Lol. Mike. Got a question. Was Ernie bought new by you guys? I’ve watched the Ernie episodes and don’t remember hearing if it was or my advanced years caused me to miss it.
Ah Mike! Lovin your videos lately! Keep it up buddy!
Looks like SW Sask is getting a little bit or rain today. Hope you're getting a break from the dryness.
Always find that once a tractor gets its first sniff of ether it gets an addiction
In my early teens on a farm, I was allowed to work the seed drill. That is I stood on the back, and threw the lever over when we reached the headland. I think the drill itself could have only been about 10ft wide. I think things have moved on a bit from that.
If you have the time in between seeding and everything, I’m sure everyone would like to see more of what started it all.
They're keeping millions of dollars of brand new equipment outside and you're telling him to put that old seeder inside 😂
@@mateusz7850 yeah you had a point. I just changed my comment. I also wasn’t talking about the seeders, I was talking about the tractor but I see what you’re talking about.
