- We install a 3.5" Suspension #Lift #Kit / leveling kit in a #new #Ford #Ranger. This Rough Country Lift Kit proved to deliver a nice ride, and added to the curb appeal of this truck. We want to add some bigger tires and wider wheels to pull off the complete Look that we are after. This kit also fits 2019 Ford Ranger and 2021 Ford Ranger so the install would be the same. I've got a 2022 Tremor...trying to install the same Rough Country 2.5 leveling kit. For some reason I can't get the steering knuckle back lined up with the upper control arm... like the CV is keeping it from pushing back in. But when I turn the axle the drive shaft turns so I know the splines are engaged. I'm super confused...any suggestions on how to get that pushed back in?
Is the axle seated all the way up in the knuckle? If not take the axle out and use a wire brush on the splines and put a little grease on seat the axle in the knuckle and you may have to use a jack to jack it back up there. Hope this helps thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@OrangeWiresGarage I didn't take the axle nut off. According to the instructions that came with the kit, you don't have to. So the steering knuckle was never seperated from the axle.
@@robcliche9390 ok sorry misread the 2.5 vs the 3.5. The only place that axle can move is the inner cv joint. Make sure that it is all the way in and if so you can try a rachet strap from the upper to the lower control arm or just use a jack underneath the lower to jack the ball joint back into the steering knuckle.
@@OrangeWiresGarage Ok... looks like the CV knuckle (3 bearings in the shape of a triangle) pulled out of that inner housing... and is not at all happy about the idea of going back in. Do you just have to beat it back in?
Short answer... yes, kind of. Used a ratchet strap from the frame around the front of the steering knucle and had to gently tighten while turning the axle and prying each of the 3 bearing as far out as the housing will allow. The outside face of the housing is staked on either side of each bearing (6 places) to create a small lip on the inside of the housing... my guess is that's supposed to keep the bearings from coming out or at least provide some resistance to someone who is, let's say, trying to install a leveling kit. I experienced zero resistance and had no idea there was even a problem until I began putting everything back together. Word to the wise when installing this 2.5 leveling kit from Rough Country... where the instructions say very casually, "Do not let the CV shaft pull out"... I'm here to tell you, DO NOT LET THE CV SHAFT PULL OUT!! @Orange Wires kudos to you sir... you make it look way too easy! Thanks for your help friend!
Thank you so much I was watching videos to see if I need a 6inch I just wanted to see the difference you explained more than anyone else
Nice
Love it!!
Thank you!
How did you screw in the rear rock lights, did you use a self tapping screw, or the screws and nuts that came with the kit? Bought the same kit for my Ranger
Used the screws and nuts that came with them and attached to the fender liner. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
How did you get the strut assembly back in without taking the lower bolts out? Having troublw
We just used a pry bar to pry the lower control arm down just enough. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Hi. Thanks for the video... I will install mines soon and I have 2 questions! Why you make bigger the hole in the arm?? And what you do with a grinder in the diferential?? Very thanks!!
You do have to change the upper control arm and the ball joint is a little bigger so you have to drill it out to accommodate that. You have to cut some mounts up front to lower the differential. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
how much inches should I lift a ford ranger 2022 to fit a 315/70R17 tire?
Most likely a 6” lift would probably be recommended for 35” tires. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Did you get new wheels yet?
No but we hope to get some soon, thanks for watching and subscribing!
I went with coilovers. Eiback. Still need uppers
How much does it effect the drive stability? I’ve heard that most people recommend 2” lift anything more and it becomes too rocky.
I’m wanting to lift mine 4” but concerned it maybe too much. So 3” seems like a reasonable compromise. Great vid
The drive stability was great after the install. 3 in lift would not compromise on ride quality too much. Thank you!
@@OrangeWiresGarage well
That’s settles it then 😊 😬 now to decide on the tires/wheels 🤔
Hey was there any drilling or cutting required for the different drop
Yes there is a little drilling and cutting on that
Do you need to remove the bump stops? 🤔 don't really want to disassemble the strut 😂
With this kit it is necessary to disassemble the strut to install the new spacer also, as well as dealing with the bump stops. We used a spring compressor from harbor freight, always use extreme caution ⚠️ when dealing with compressed springs. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@OrangeWiresGarage do you have to take out the bumpers? does it affect anything?
@@BigBeaks69 it is necessary you have to break down the strut and install the shim and remove the bump stops.
Did that void your factory warranty?
We hope not, but haven’t had to check that yet it is a strong possibility that this kit could though.
sir how much spend for that parts. tnx
How are the rear shocks?
We think they are some of the best for the Ford Ranger! Thank you for watching and subscribing!
The way you held those snips, I'd guess that you were a phone man sometime in your life.
You have a good eye it takes a phone man to recognize a phone man. I’m Still a phone man though! Thanks for watching
@@OrangeWiresGarage I retired after 30 years in the phone business and then about 10 more in IT after everything went VoIP. I'm still a tip and ring guy at heart though. It looks like you get into some fun stuff. I'll have to check more of it out.
@@philgriswold2133 glad you found us and keep on checking out the videos
Don't do more than 2inch front, you will have issues in few months, boots begin leaking due to stress on up/down travel..
That’s the first time I’ve heard that and I’ve read quite a few reviews. Could that be unique in your experience?
