I'm considering re-entering the rc world. I raced 1/8 gas cars for years then gave up the sport completely. I am very interested in planes, I owned a glider 25 yrs ago and i destroyed it the 2nd flight out. This video was EXTREMELY helpful. I will probably get this nx7e instead of the nx6. I dont plan to go higher. 6-7 channels is enough for my old self. thank you very much for the thorough video.
Love the nx10. It has everything you need in a transmitter. Talking about flying normal rc airplanes, not about multi thousand jets, which I usually see people using them with jeti, or multiplex. For me spektrum is the best and easy to use.
The nx7e has 14 channels now, it can fly anything you want now for a beginner or intermediate... It's the best bang for the buck now I think if you want a spectrum.
Thanks for reviewing this transmitter in such detail, Well done! Just wish they decided to go with a charcoal grey instead of a white. Like you I guess we could learn to like the color though. I hate UA-cam and the FAA dont want us to fly these model planes in parks and grass fields and yet I go to another channel they are flying a quad copter right up to a moving Freight train and that some how is ok . Think the FAA should focus on them not us with styro foam planes. But thats just my opinion. Till the FAA gets there mind made up will be here at your channel and enjoy watching you fly sir. Have a good one!
Hey Brian, thanks for the great videos. I'm a big fan. I have a question what are your thoughts on the iX14 plus transmitter? I noticed that you use the NX10. Anyway just wondering because I'm in the market for a spektrum transmitters. I've been using a Radiomaster TX16S.
I have an Apprentice S2 1.2M, and the DxS it came with. I want to get into the hobby more, and likely additional planes/sim usage. My question is, would you recommend this (or another Spektrum Tx) or switching to RadioMaster i.e. Boxer ox TX16s?
I ended up getting the nx8 and the 1.2 Eflite Corsair at the same time. Something cool. Spectrum has already loaded most of eflites planes in the transmitter. pretty much any plane equipped with spectrum smart receivers. I thought that was cool. Not just the down load from the site . It's actually already in the transmitter.I just had to bind. I mean as long as your ok with the buttons for control that they program in.
Even if they do this, I'd still learn to setup the planes. It is a tool that's expensive, and you will be able to use easier after doing 2-3 planes. If you use their profiles, you'll also have to make sure you familiarize yourself with any specific "issues" that might crop up ;) Good luck, and very glad you got the NX8 - you'll love it!
Great review Brian, as always. I'm just getting back into the hobby after to long of a break and your long format content is hands down, the best that I've seen! I have a Carbon Cub RTF now so I need to get a new radio so I can start ordering some of the other planes that you've reviewed. I'll probably be fine with this NX7e but the NX10SE is on sale for $599 right now for Fathers Day at Horizon so that may be to tempting to pass up but I'm on the fence. Anyway, a big thank you to you and your wife for the amazing content and please keep up the great work! Happy Fathers Day!
Thank you for this review. I am just getting back into the hobby after 10 years or so of not flying. I initially bought the latest RealFlight, flew for a month, then picked up a UMX Turbo Timber Evo and a DXS. This review has really helped me with the decision to go for an NX8 at least. Thanks again, sir. Really enjoy your videos.
When I re-started RC some 2+ years ago, the shop turned me to the DX6e. I wish they had introduced me to the NX8 instead. The 6e is OK but has some quirks that I still don't understand while setting up SAFE. The 8 that you have been using for a while seems much more straightforward especially with forward programming and an adjustment knob. For now, I'm sticking with what I have until i progress further in the hobby.
Im on a dx6e also. Just upgraded it to 2.09 for the forward programming and it blew my mind how easy it is. I am, however, having weird issues setting up SAFE on an ar630. I figured I screwed it up. But, if you're also experiencing issues, I wonder if it's just glitchy. I'm not sweating it bc my wife is making me wait until Xmas morning to open my new nx8. So, relief is in sight 😅 👍
I havent tried the "beer truck" angle yet. Probably wont work. My wife is super generous in her support of me flying(and crashing, and fixing,etc...)rc planes. But, shes also quite shrewd. 😊Soooo, My dx6e will do until christmas morning. She's been instructed to use YOUR links, btw. Fingers crossed over here. LOVE that WACO! i've got some Washington Nationals decals that'll look dee-licious on the wings of that Red/Wht one. Nx7e lokks cool, too. Def better than what ive got now. The knob, for gains is sick. Anyway, ill be happy when i get my meat hooks on a new nx8... 6 or 7 or 8 very loooong weeks from now. Love the video! Awesome job, Camera Crew 👍
I couldn't agree more about your lipo safety spill there, Brian. That is so important, especially for the new guys. Because you can literally burn your house down if you do it the wrong way. But if you follow if you simple safety rules, wipers can be perfectly safe to use.
I really want a nx transmitter, but here in Denmark is so damn expensive, compared to America. I currently using a dxS from my Apprentice RTF. I had to tighten the control sticks since I needed more resistance. I think NX-8 would be a good choice?
NX8 would be okay, but if you think you'll run out of channels, NX10 is where I think most of us will end up. bprc.me/HorizonHobby - This is our USA Master Link bprc.me/HorizonHobbyEU - I wonder if you would need to follow THIS link if you're in Denmark? Could you see if it works. This is our MASTER link to Horizon Hobby EU. Then just "search" for nx10 or nx8 Also, might want to consider the NX7e if it gets you up and running, then later you can make the jump to the NX10 or bigger.
Is the dx6e still ok? I was going to buy one as I'm going to the spectrum line as fairly new to fixed wing RC. I really don't plan to go further than flaps and retracts for budget reasons.
Use a neck strap and you won't drop it. Or add some rubber stick on stuff to the back. Easy fix. Been flying for 20+ years and never needed wifi. What I do wish is it had the voice so I didn't need to look down at my timer for flight time.
Have you looked into the tx16s etc? I converted from spektrum because of the lack of features/price. I feel like there build quality is inferior and the pricing is extortionate. Plus with open/edge you can use all spektrum smart as3x stuff anyway...
@@anybodysguess960 yea fair enough if you're getting them free, but stuff paying 3 times the price for inferior hardware. The screens look like they come out of a 2009 nokia.
Good evening Brian. So I just bought the Nx7e. I think I'm ready for my F15Edf 63mm maiden flight. I have no idea what I am doing with this 7 channel. And i hate to say it but I have difficulty comprehending things I read. The manual is frustrating to me. Do you have any videos showing the binding process and Channel selections for the eflite F15 edf?
We did that plane some time ago, and YEAH, we did an UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP. You can follow along with ALMOST all details being the same, but since you have the NX7e, and I THINK we used the NX6 - should be SUPER similar... ua-cam.com/video/yyVuhkirhzc/v-deo.html ...good luck.
I managed to bind E-Flite T-28 Trojan 1.2m (I created the model, the one in the list didn't work), I too managed to bind the Mini Apprentice 700 Stol (I used the model in the list), but it was impossible to bind the Hobbyzone Carbon Cub S2. It binds to the DXS tx that came with the model. When binding from the NX7e the display says binding, then 22ms then auto configuring and then it seems to be ok on screen but the rx keeps on flashing and no bind. Any ideas?
I'm still using the original DX7! Why? Because it's still working being basically a JR radio! Only thing I'd like is the automatic timer start and the higher 11ms frame rate of the newer radios.
I didn't know this before NOW, but seems you can't do it??? I can't see it in the normal SERVO SETUP menu. Wonder if it's buried somewhere else, but I doubt it....bet it just doesn't exist. Maybe try firmware update, and see if the feature is added, but I'm not holding my breath; I bet it's just not a feature ;( BUMMER MAN!
I have the Spektrum DX8E and i am very proud having it its awsome and I don’t need more. For me The disign of the NX7E Looks a little cheap and i think the White Color does not fit a Spektrum Transmiter but that’s just my opinion
Thank you. The reason I can even already do a full radio set up on it , is from watching your guys detailed build and set up vids. They are very helpful.
Because the NX10 is the next logical step up from the NX7e, most people want to know if the price jump is worth it. There are a LOT of features on the NX10 that you can't get on the 7e.
URGENT Decision 😢please... which one to go for in between the : NX7e , NX8 and NX10 for flying ONLY Airplanes ✈️ (NOT Helicopters ) ?? Please... URGENT
NX10. If it's even on your radar, don't settle for less. You'll always be happy you have more channels, extra switches, voice alerts, etc. If you can afford the 10, you won't regret it! bprc.me/NX10

When you're out in public, say, shopping for instance, do you ever slip and call your wife, "Canera crew"? lol You sure seem to like that lil Waco, and I think I need one too!
Hey Brian can you let us know exactly what Google is doing to you? You expressed that you were upset at their actions but didn't say not hint even at what those actions were that had you upset with them.
Google had been deleting our links for somehow violating their policies (which they weren't) and they have since turned most of them back on, but with nothing more than - yep, they didn't violate our policy in reply. Just 5-6 months of worry, suffering, lost revenue, and heartache for nothing...and they won't so much as say "sorry about that". When the world gets run by AI, we're ALL SCREWED. These are all AI systems that don't work and Google just doesn't really care that it hurts real people. We were the very fortunate to make it through this mess, as they were also threatening to shut down our channel over it too! We had professionals all over the world helping to get this resolved, and NOBODY could fix it. When Google decided they want you done, you're 100% guilty until they maybe decide to look at the blatant evidence THEY collected to prove your innocence. It probably cost us about 30-50 hours a week during the heart of this battle, and it was all for not, since they just eventually fixed it...just because. Believe it or not, there are many, many channels that end up gone because of this insanity. We were one of the lucky ones. Anyway, thank GOD that's in our rear view mirror.
@@BrianPhillipsRC holy shit thats awful .Really sorry you and your family had to go through that. I know how hard your family works to provide a good channel and I certainly appreciate it. Seems like if you arent part of the ( the ones) group you simpmy dont matter in this world anymore. Just look into the fires in Hawai alone. Very strange that we hear nothing of any investigations being conducted about the discrepencies that have been pointed out to be very strange indeed about these fires and nothing about the children that went missing during these fires. Like I said if you arent part of their group you dont matter anymore in this country and its just about time for us citizens to say enough is enough and were not taking this shit anymore.
Concerning the FAA and remote ID , does anyone have a link for me to print out the rules stating we can fly aircraft that are a certain given weight? Would be nice to have a official printed document to have just in case.
If you want less "aid", that's fine. To all their own! But we hardly promote "auto-pilot" - SAFE is just for beginners, and most shed it quickly, within a few months to a year, but it's NICE to have when you're brand new. AS3X and other stabilizers just make it more fun and easy / less frustration from weather constraints.
I went to my local hobby shop. And they did have one I do not like it. I had to compare it with the NX6. I believe that new radio is designed very cheap. Want to really take a look at it. It's not made very good, not good quali. Prefer to have my students purchase the NX6. The 7 is too cheap.
I watch you and I fly helicopters, I cannot afford a nv20… radios are a dime a dozen… like computers… every 2 months there’s a new pile of crap. We all can afford 2000 a week to buy new transmitters. It’s very frustrating.
You don't need an NX20 (which isn't $2,000) and you certainly don't NEED an iX transmitter. Everyone has to find what works for their budget. Luckily, if you get the best transmitter you can afford, it really should last you for years. The NX/iX lineup is the current technology in the Spektrum world and will be for quite some time. It's all about getting the right thing at the right time for the right reason. bprc.me/Tx
Honestly, these just aren't as good as something like a radiomaster tx16s or boxer. Those are much better bang for your buck, you aren't limited to only 6-10 channels, they're multi protocol and they are much more functional and customizable. You can get a tx16s for a couple hundred bucks and it'll do way more than even the nx10. You can even do spectrum forward programming.
@@HciContractor Radiomaster Zorro costs $129 with rechargeable batteries. Amazing ergonomics, hall effect gimbals, everything this POS doesn't have. It will make you kick yourself every time you pick up that iX14.
The thing is he is a fan boy plus he get paid or get free radio from spectrum. Spektrum radio doesn't matter if it flagship is very limited on programing then edgetx. Radiomaster tx16s max mk2 is a killer radio insane quality. Beautiful cnc different color to choose and elrs receiver is lot cheaper. Spectrum is for dummies. 😅 their technology I legacy obsolete.
@@rcrotorfreak I would've respected his response if, instead of calling me names he addressed even ONE of the problems I cited. Instead, I'm just some "NUT." Classy. Oh, and I'm the only fool on earth who has been using Apple exclusively since 1985. So I should've known that my $550 POS NX10 will never work as described because I cannot install the required firmware update. What I am used to is up front disclosure. If it's Windows only, I'll look elsewhere. But have the decency to reveal this up front. Don't make it a surprise after the fact and then blame me because "I should be used to it by now." Really? Animosity and hubris? Check. Childish? Affirmative. Two lines in the description would do the trick: This product is Windows only Betaware. It will require a firmware update before first use. Ironically, the reason I chose Apple in the first place is what Brian claimed is Spektrum's greatest strength. Ease of use.🤣🤣🤣🙃 What I and everyone should "know by now" is the truth about so called "reviews" on YT. Paid advertisement, no matter how dismal the pay, is not a review.
@@RARenfield Apple is another Spektrum believe it or not. They are so greedy. They over charge you for a expensive apple computer. Soc came a long way and it is the future but before. Apple was using Intel processor. People would make hackintosh to match the performance paying so much less money. Same performance would cost 4 time more with apple label. Apple doesn't want you to use upgrade their gpu on their desktop computer neither. There is so much crap. If I have to choose a OS or two. I would choose Linux and Windows. To be honest. M$ been adding lot of feature. Just like EdgeTx. M$ and like Linux there alway's going to be security patches and also patches to make it more stable. I have nuke a Linux system. But either way it's flexible os not OSX. Apple shouldn't be ripping people off. Apple charging 4x more just because name is very stupid. Either way Windows 11 is a fantastic OS. Lot of development. Anyway's back to Spektrum. Spektrum should atleast give up on firmware and have Edgetx. Also Frsky and general Elrs been very great on protocol technology. The EdgeTx also what make them so stable as a firmware is that it is huge firmware development group. We talking about probably thousand developer. On Spektrum firmware development group is probably couple dozen. Also guinea pig been very good for Edgetx. Lot of thousand of people beta testing Edgetx on lot of different radio. Edgetx support dozen of different manufacture. Also forgot to mention people who are not in the development team of Edgetx. Basically third party developers can improve or find bugs and report and share the code to the offical developer team to fix it it can also be feature add on. I love Edgetx another reason is people create their own lua scrip and share to other including voice, sound, widget, themes and so forth. Spektrum is great for noobs. People who want to grow should upgrade to radio with EdgeTx. Such a great firmware. And having Radio Master offering Tx16s especially with touch screen. Is fantastic. To bad they are focusing to much to fpv pilot. Tx16s mk2 is a year and a half or two year. I'm waiting for mk3 :). I also have a Frsky x10s Express with Edgetx oh my that radio is FANTASTIC!! To bad Frsky putting to much effort on ETHOS don't want Edgetx to be used on their latest radio :(
Yawn. Same old, same old. Lipstick job on a stodgy design. When will Spektrum ever address the fact that the screen is partially blocked by the strap? And who asked for bigger, ever? Ergonomics from the golden age of r/c. Exactly the same layout as my turn of the century HiTec Optic 6 transmitter! Radiomaster is really killing them, at a tiny fraction of the price. My NX10 is garbage compared with my Radiomaster Zorro. NX10 has been my worst radio purchase decision ever. And if you use Apple Mac, Spektrum is like Shingles. They don't care. Get windoz or get lost. I don't think Spektrum has brought anything new or even improved to market since they came up with spread spectrum technology. You guys getting freebies sure have a tough job sometimes. Painful to watch.
Spektrum could definitely stand to take a look at some of their competitors offerings, but to say that your NX10 is garbage is nuts! I've had a bunch of transmitters, and it has been great...We HAVE worked with some other openTX gear, and it's just not as EASY to use...that being said, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Not liking Spektrum, or any other brand or product we've reviewed is totally fine, and fair game, but there's absolutely nothing FREE about what we get, and we take great insult from your comment! Megan and I work our ASSES off doing this channel, not to mention our families sacrifices to allow it to happen, and I guarantee you we could make more money AND buy every single item we've ever gotten for "FREE" working at Mc Donald's (or worse). ...BUT, I think maybe what you meant to say, with your last line - "You guys getting freebies sure have a tough job sometimes. Painful to watch." was more along the lines that you feel we're somehow covering for Spektrum, or whatever. That's not the case! Did you catch that we were straight up making fun of their design? Cow controller? Give me a break! We don't really care what they make, if it's good or not...we just share OUR opinion (NOT YOURS...OURS - we get to have an opinion too) and sometimes that means, we'll appear at odds over subjective, mostly meaningless crap. Why do you have to take such a negative tone about it. Who cares!?!? You don't like it - fine, buy something else! Millions of others DO LIKE IT. You know like with PC vs Mac - you should understand this all by now since you LIVE IT, and have been for many decades.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I couldn't watch past your initial gush. And I wish I could say "sorry." Almost. But it reminded me way too much of another RCSaylors gushfest. It is painful to be so invested in Spektrum, but I have 40+ flying things that use it. I have more than earned the right to call it as I see it. Could you possibly imagine that I might watch a few minutes of Brian's paid advertisment to find out if Spektrum finally did something new? Maybe just long enough to see that there's nothing here to see? Horizon Hobby create amazing models. Spektrum is the boat anchor around their collective neck. Oh, the handle fell off my NX10 too. The $550 radio that needed a firmware update out of the box just to work as advertised. Which requires a windoz computer they didn't include. In 2022!?! It stays in a padded hard case because it's more fragile than my grandmother's cut crystal glass. It will take some time to convert all of my Spektrum models to open source.
It's so good. I got it because of you guys
I just got the nx7e+ and it love it and it dose go up to 14 channels
Nice presentation guys... you guys should do this for a living! 😊
If you use their profiles, you'll also have to make sure you familiarize yourself with any specific "issues" that might crop up ;)
Good luck, and very glad you got the NX8 - you'll love it!
@@BrianPhillipsRC . Yeah your right. I'm still going to follow your set up instructions. Thank you
Great review Brian, as always.
If you ended up with the 7e it has a firmware update now to 14 channels!
So, relief is in sight 😅
👍
NX8 would be okay, but if you think you'll run out of channels, NX10 is where I think most of us will end up.
bprc.me/HorizonHobby - This is our USA Master Link
bprc.me/HorizonHobbyEU - I wonder if you would need to follow THIS link if you're in Denmark? Could you see if it works. This is our MASTER link to Horizon Hobby EU. Then just "search" for nx10 or nx8
Also, might want to consider the NX7e if it gets you up and running, then later you can make the jump to the NX10 or bigger.
I do use a neck strap, this just doesn't come with one. Loosing the voice function is one of the things that make the "e" for economy.
Have you looked into the tx16s etc? I converted from spektrum because of the lack of features/price. I feel like there build quality is inferior and the pricing is extortionate. Plus with open/edge you can use all spektrum smart as3x stuff anyway...
They would have to support him the way Spektrum does I would think
He gets free gear for his reviews. So he "looks into" anything Horizon Hobby sends. 😉
@@anybodysguess960 yea fair enough if you're getting them free, but stuff paying 3 times the price for inferior hardware. The screens look like they come out of a 2009 nokia.
Hey Brian, You need to build a Hanger for all your planes & make your wife happy.
Great video and .keep fighting !
Ron
Good evening Brian. So I just bought the Nx7e.
I think I'm ready for my F15Edf 63mm maiden flight. I have no idea what I am doing with this 7 channel. And i hate to say it but I have difficulty comprehending things I read. The manual is frustrating to me. Do you have any videos showing the binding process and Channel selections for the eflite F15 edf?
We did that plane some time ago, and YEAH, we did an UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP. You can follow along with ALMOST all details being the same, but since you have the NX7e, and I THINK we used the NX6 - should be SUPER similar...
ua-cam.com/video/yyVuhkirhzc/v-deo.html
...good luck.
Make sure to update your firmware, the 7e has 14 channels now!
You mentioned you have almost 200 planes on the nx10. Any chance you ever thin out the hanger? Would love a “Brian Phillips” rc.
Happy to see they discovered USB C! What do you use the R-Knob for?
Right Knob is typically used for Master Gain so you can adjust the stabilizer "on the fly"... pun intended. :)
Nothing wrong with what you've got, keep using it - I would ;)
Hi Brian Hi. How can I set servo speed on Nx7e
@@BrianPhillipsRC I appreciate your feedback
Hi. How can I set servo speed on Nx7e
I have the Spektrum DX8E and i am very proud having it its awsome and I don’t need more. For me The disign of the NX7E Looks a little cheap and i think the White Color does not fit a Spektrum Transmiter but that’s just my opinion
Very informative! Tyty
Wheres that old guy who loves commenting first on BP vids?
Grumpy John must have overslept today! ;)
They say they are preloading on all nx series transmitters.
thanks for the heads up!
Thank you. The reason I can even already do a full radio set up on it , is from watching your guys detailed build and set up vids. They are very helpful.
In case I missed it does it have wifi
no
Does this transmiter talks or just beeps?
The NX7e, just beeps. No voice function is part of what makes it an "e" for "economy" ;)
And no wifi... But you can upgrade it now for 14 channels.
I think its time you build a hangar, your living room is filling up
Took me a bit to notice but....Why are you comparing a radio that's double the price?
Because the NX10 is the next logical step up from the NX7e, most people want to know if the price jump is worth it. There are a LOT of features on the NX10 that you can't get on the 7e.
Hey Brian, where did you get the neck lanyard. That is exactly what I’m looking for. I didn’t see the link.
Sorry we missed that! Here it is...

Thanks. I just ordered one.

Very interesting.
When you're out in public, say, shopping for instance, do you ever slip and call your wife, "Canera crew"? lol You sure seem to like that lil Waco, and I think I need one too!
Nope. Never. If might not live that one down. :)
I need one of these so so bad 😭😭😭 Pls do a giveaway Brian 😁
Fight the good fight!
It's just I don't care for the white color of the new 7 or I would go with that
If only we all had a million dollar budget like you
He gets sent stuff he dosent pay for it
See previous reply, but EVERYBODY has a budget, get the best thing you can afford. There are lots of options out there.
Concerning the FAA and remote ID , does anyone have a link for me to print out the rules stating we can fly aircraft that are a certain given weight? Would be nice to have a official printed document to have just in case.
Google it it's easy. FDA RC registration
If it wasn't white. I agree it would be awesome. 7 channels for $299 not bad Spectrum
Shame on Google.
Looks like a Milk Shake
NICE... 😜😜😁😎
got a headache,I wanna fly my plane, not by autopilot
I wish I'd have known that. It's stupid what iX14 costs
Ease of use.🤣🤣🤣🙃
What I and everyone should "know by now" is the truth about so called "reviews" on YT.
To bad Frsky putting to much effort on ETHOS don't want Edgetx to be used on their latest radio :(
Waste money people.
Wouldn’t buy NX7 just based on its blah appearance. Yuk! Ugly prize for 2024.
And hey, my old Dxe has 7 channels. $20 used.
No voice, no trainer, a poor, cheap tx.

A company I have nothing to do with? Don't conflate Brian's freebies as an exclusive right to gush over junk. Think of it as the job that it is. And consider this my non-paid counter-point.
I've been buying and using Spektrum products since 2011. On MY dime.
Not because it's harder, but because it's different. And because there are so many.
