It is very refreshing to hear Brian talk about government and over reach. Sometimes I think the media/.gov want us to feel like we are alone in our frustrations. It’s nice to know that we are not alone and that more of us feel just like Brian does than don’t.
In Germany our lobby organisation for RC: Deutsche Modellflieger Verband (DMFV) has managed to prevent the duty of setup such devices. We only have to print the ID out and add it inside the plane. Thats it. No electronic necessary.
This is one of the reasons I now fly UMX in my back yard. Local schools and parks that had areas we were permitted to fly have now closed to use for RC planes, largely due to people flying the DJI drones around everything and not staying in the boundaries that were designated.

Being a former, 13 years, FAA employee I feel you are being nice in your use of the word 'ludicrous' towards the FAA bureaucracy. It is a shame the AMA rolled over to the faa. I wrote my objections to the AMA twice knowing full well they aren't listening, just like the FAA. I am a FAA Certificated Pilot and FAA Certified Aircraft Maintenance Technician (A&P), with an IA Rating for many years and still own my own plane. Notice I used the term Certificated because the word license isn't in the FARS. The point is too many people DON'T do their homework in advance and listen to the power mongers that don't give an iota about us real AMERICANS. They are only concerned about their unholy paychecks...

Thanks. We really did debate long and hard about even doing this, but we know there are people that will want/need to comply, and we just wanted to make sure they have the info necessary. The whole thing is just ridiculous, but we're not going to stop flying.
I loved the presentation. I purcahsed the same RID and its installed and a solid light. So for us rookies and maybe you stated it but I cannot find it where were you looking to get the heading and all the RID data on your transmitter. I hae the NX10. I could not find anything on any page of the NX10. Could you or anyone else show me the way. Thanks You seemed to be gettng a lot of data but I can't find the page you were on?
I'd like to know how to see the info also. Newbie here also using a NX8 and the plane is an Apprentice 1.5. The remote light is on and steady, but I see no info on the NX8. What am I missing?
To fully protect my Sky Remote ID Module when I get one I will first wrap it completely in aluminum foil , install in the aircraft and then fly. That way it may survive a crash better.
As a life long modeler and old geez, I wonder how a beginner can get started successfully in the hobby nowadays. Your videos and others are a definite asset to the hobby along with community support on RC Groups. It's costing me $125 club membership plus $65 AMA membership to continue flying at a FRIA plus periodic $5 fees for FAA registration.
Amazon, FedEx or anybody else will NEVER deliver packages with Drones. The size of Drone required to deliver a small package that weighs only 4 pounds will have to be pretty large. WHEN, not IF, but WHEN one of those large Drones fall from the sky and hit somebody, you’re looking at massive law Suits. The drone will only be able to drop the package in the front yard. Not up on the porch. They will be using the Best equipment available, so when a kid orders something and it’s delivered, the kid throws a blanket over the Drone and keeps all the parts. Amazon just lost another Drone.
I have been told clearly by my club that I need to have a remote ID in order to fly. Given how thick the woods are around our field, I expect this module will pay for itself.
If your club doesn't have a FRIA, then you would technically still need a RID module to be compliant. Compliance is YOUR choice, and I'm just trying to help with some level of clarity, but don't think I want you to do it, or not do it ;) Thanks for being here with us! The hobby is live and well!
If you open it up, can you get to the TX and RX and the SDA and SCL (if the GPS onboard has a compass (can you tell?) so you can connect it to a flight controller and use it in iNAV or BetaFlight and no use a Spektrum receiver?
Nice rant! Enjoyed it. I purchased 2 units in Aug 2023. Took 6 months to get them to us. Connected to receiver and worked like a champ giving me speed and altitude. Second time out a week later the thing went crazy giving all sorts of BS data. So the first one has failed after 2 hours use. Did I expect it to work when it's made in China? Thanks Spekcrap. You took my money and delivery a turd!

Clearly, a motivation is to increase dues for the AMA. They do some good for the hobby but understand they are a money-raising organization. This is what most of their money is geared toward, raising more money to build the kingdom.
Since a large percentage of the FRIAs are being granted to AMA member fields where you cannot fly unless you paid your dues, it becomes obvious why the Fudd-club rolled over to the FAA like boot lickers. AMA now holds a near monopoly on compliant fly sites...just cough up some member dues.
Thanks for the video! Couple things I’d like to share: 1. Sub 250 is all I fly, and I just started a year ago, but all the vets that welcomed me into this hobby fly their big boys and I want to help protect them! STOP REMOTE ID!! 2. Spektrum making proprietary products in 2024 is an absolute joke. I never have and never will buy anything spektrum. EdgeTX and ELRS is my only OS and radio Protocol, and I’ve never experienced any of these issues new people face, and I’m not locked into ANY company. DSM and Spektrum is TRASH. 3. I really appreciate your position and explanation of the situation. Your information on installing this optional equipment is awesome too. FWIW: there are sub250 cinewhoops that can do some high quality cinematic work.
Brian, for over 45 years I hold a private pilot certicate with an instrument rating. For 20 years I was the sole owner and operator of a Piper Cherokee 180. I have not had a medical since 2003. I am new to rc aircraft in the past 4 years, since Covid. Before I stopped flying most aircraft had transponders, which only provided your 2D position to ATC. To fly IFR it made sense to have mode C, which also relayed your altitude to ATC. At that time there was no requirement to have a transponder or mode C. It only limited your access to certain classes of airspace. Today, the requirement is I believe mode S which allows nearby aircraft to know where and at what altitude nearby aircraft are, beyond just ATC having that data. I have no idea how that system is designed to work. The rc club that I belong to has just received FRIA authorization for both of it’s sites. To read and try to understand what had been proposed and new rules and regulations, even through the AMA, magazine, has been confusing and difficult, at best. I never understood how this ID system works. From what you said, individual flight data is gathered by satellite. I am still assuming that nearby full scale aircraft will be able to see positions and altitudes of nearby rc aircraft and drones. This sounds to me to be a very complex system and subject to interruptions and failures. Keep up the good work. I think the FAA has gone too far also. Doug Coates Bristol, RI
As someone who is nearly finished with my private pilot's license, I can't imagine flying around and having to ignore a bunch of effectively phantom aircraft showing up well over 1000 ft below me in a GA plane. The sky might look crowded on the computer but I wouldn't be able to see any aircraft out the window...
Finally got around to setting mine up. Easy. I was under the impression that the planes had to be listed too. Just the module. I just want to be able to buy a connector wire for each plane for easy switching from plane to plane.
You can buy wires too, but I would source them where you can get them CHEAP....but this kit comes with enough to get you running, then copy what you need for the next plane.
This is all so that the FAA can give large corporations such as Amazon primary rights to airspace formerly protected by rule 336 for package drones. As usual, follow the money.
Great video-thank you. I ordered in a Holy Stone-you can thank drones for this. It's a dying hobby, a mere shadow of what it was in the past and this is just another nail in the coffin. I've flown free flight, control line, and Rc for 50 years and glad I'm still flying control line and free flight.

All of us Real Americans will get declared into that category when we exercise our right to NOT COMPLY... A cop cannot I.D. you without suspecting you of a crime but the FAA and Amazon just SAY SO!!
1. You don't have to comply since the FAA is not a law making body but only an agency. 2. You can double check Federal published and mandated laws in the Federal Register to see where this law is going. 3. As an American, none of the public that enjoy recreational RC flying consented and pursued legislative action to create a law that we want RID. 4. Whoever is the congressman that got paid to push and lobby this BS so it can be manifested by FAA and bypass the paperwork, should be looked into. 5. It's our job as citizens to mitigate money-grab tactics of Federal agencies for financial gain, to check the power and balances of our government(We're not supposed to give them more money). 6. This rule and regulation is not heavily enforced, it's what's called a "probe" because it's still testing out the waters as a regulation to see if the government can garnish money through such fines, and fund the FAA at the same time. This is also to test out how many citizens would comply to this, and if they see many complies then heavy enforcement follows next. 7. Your last option is to be chowd, pull your pants down, and comply, because citizens are so scared to go to jail and would rather have a Fed Agency extort more money through creating more fines and fear-mongering tactics.
yes, like you said - but if you don't want to comply, you can still have the appearance of compliance. that's what we were saying - some people don't want to pick this hill to die on, but to be honest, my issue is where does it stop?!?!? Seems they want to regulate us into complete slavery. It's getting old, but if there were enough of us, we could put an end to it, unfortunately, it would be very painful.
Unfortunately I think the best option for me is to just shut my mouth and comply, or quit the hobby altogether. I'm in the process of getting a pilot's license and while the FAA may "only" be an agency they absolutely would deny my license over some dumb infraction with a foam hobby plane.

So instead of complying with this overstep of authority, I applied to the AMA to make my 40 acres of property an AMA charter club and it was approved. Me and my wife are the only members. We had a small 600 feet x 75 feet runway asphalt runway installed. Our nearest neighbors are 3 miles away and we are 50 miles from the nearest airport. We then took all the steps the FAA required when applying for a FRIA status and after waiting for almost a year, we were granted an FRIA status. I still hold an AMA card and belong to a local club, but its nice to just step out your back door and go flying and not have to worry about some bozo trying to gain access to your property to see if your in compliance......
Sweet! Can I come over and fly? Only have a few "foamies" and the govt (as in THE Govt) is only about a mile from my house. So, when I step outside and fly, I'm constantly looking over my shoulder for Park Police officers, hell-bent on enforcing the "no drone" rules in my town. Just kidding about coming over, btw. But, the rest is real. 👍

I tried with mine, they rejected it because its a single family dwelling, and privately owned. Not a club. You can see it in my videos, my nearest neighbor is almost a mile away.
So in your situation, and mine, where we fly on our large properties, and adjacent fields and farms, my thought is that if I did decide to use an Identifier I would just permanently power one up in a static position, like inside my shed next to my runway. I'd say more than half my planes dont even have room for a module.
This is a good idea for us rc flyers of planes and Heli's. We usually fly in a specific area and are not sending far out like they do with the large quad copters with cameras.
@@FalconWing1813 I think its how they should have implemented it. Unless you are flying outside of line of sight planes shouldnt have to carry them. I certainly see the need for long distance, FPV flight for drones and planes to have a transponder. I also think a 5v transmitter is a joke. Whats the range, a mile at best?
@snoriverrc3842 I don't think so. If you are flying too close to manned aircraft, someone with the app and is near by, can find you. I think these are a great idea. I have spent hours searching for downed planes in fields. With this technology, I can walk straight to it. As an added bonus, I get ground speed, altitude (in either AGL or MSL), distance from me, and location on my transmitter now. I can record my flight and go back and review it later for max speed runs. I have bought one for all of my planes. So there isn't any swapping modules between planes.
Hello Brian, thank you very much for getting back to us. I appreciated your confirmation on our decision to go with the NX-10. Still unsure how the sliders work. Can you give us a quick lesson? Logan and I were watching your video on the Sport Cub S2 when you were flying with Andrew, and I said to him… That’s going to be us, and you better watch your six, because Papa!s coming! Man Brian…can you give us an idea of how many planes you have and where do you keep them all? Thanks again and great job, keep them coming. Anthony and Logan
Sliders are just like another "Stick" - I never use them, but they can control a surface, like a rudder, or some such thing, but I don't see that being a good way to do it. I think some people will use them for flaps and something they want analog control over, rather than a digital switch, which might even be limited to 2 or 3 positions, while the slider can offer infinite positions. I don't care about this too, but it's nice to have it if I want to setup something strange in the future....what I DO want, is the additional channels. This is what most of us NEED.
Pursuant to the 9th and 10th Amendments, US Constitution, the federal government cannot assume powers not specifically granted to it by the Constitution. There has never been a constitutional amendment establishing the FAA in the US, until that happens, it is my position that the FAA has no constitutional authority over the actions of any private citizen. Congress cannot grant the FAA power, that Congress itself does not have under the US Constitution. Assuming that the FAA is constitutional, it does not have the authority regulate the privately owned air space that reaches the enveloping atmosphere of a persons real property, anymore than having the authority to regulate the airspace within ones home. The US Supreme Court has ruled, a landowner owns as much of the space above the ground as he can occupy or use in connection with the land. Flying a quadcopter around and above privately own trees, buildings, animals, or any other object owned, controlled, and connected to the property, is clearly an activity that is done in direct connection with the use of the land. Privately owned airspace is as much a property right as anything else attached to the property. The government cannot take possession of privately owned airspace and tell a landowner how privately owned airspace can, or cannot be used, without due process of law. As I posted before, the United States Supreme Court ruled, “We have said that the airspace is a public highway. Yet it is obvious that, if the landowner is to have full enjoyment of the land, he must have exclusive control of the immediate reaches of the enveloping atmosphere. . . . . The landowner owns at least as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with the land.” States v. Causby, 328 U.S. 256 (1946) Example: A private model aviation club, on private land, has a constitutionally protected right to use the private airspace on that land as it deems fit. It is also my position, that this applies to human personal space as well. That space that surrounds each person occupying a public space. Those persons have a right to use as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with that public space, as long as it can be done without violating another person’s life, liberty, or property.
Dang good job you guys !!! Very fair veiws you've shared and thankyou both and family for the time and effort and love you put in!!!!!! More happy flying 🙃😎😉🖤
I just bought my first ever plane (FMS) and Radiomaster radio. Haven't flown them yet. My life might be easier at this point if I just throw them in the landfill and take up stamp collecting. Is stamp collecting legal?
Very well done. I feel your thoughts are probably with the majority of flyers. The added telemetry is nice but it shouldn’t be mandatory to have this device. I’m glad camera crew was there to keep you on task, Otherwise, this would’ve been even longer.
Also one more question is about the battery size. I see on the package it says any battery 3.5 to 9 volts. Ok I got that but it also says you can connect it to the bind plug on the receiver and power it that way? Ok but it does not mention if the battery is a 6S then to me its way over the voltage limit but again Spektrum does not say any info on this connection and voltage limit, can you just plug it into the bind prot on the receiver and your good to go no matter what battery? your not going to fry the module?
I installed Remote ID but I attached it with Boeing bolts so it may not be there when the FAA shows up.

That's how it used to be here in the US, but now that has changed, & it's nothing to do with safety, it's to clear the airspace for commercial drones!
That is how the Federal Asshole Association (FAA) started with the facism

I'm done with the AMA. They did, BASICALLY NOTHING. What am I paying dues for? They can shove their membership where the sun doesn't shine....

Correct me if im wrong, LAWS have to be submitted as bill, go through legislation before it goes on the books. The FAA puts forth rules, not LAWS.
The FAA lazily refused to separate line of sight RC planes that have been flying safely for generations from drones. Government overreach at it's finest.
It was a pain for them to recognize that when I'm flying Control line, my plane is never more then 70 feet away. BUT if you fly D class Free Flight? Go ahead, no module necessary. SURE, it can catch a thermal and be GONE and nothing you can do about it, but no module necessary.
Drones are LOS also, but we all know how that goes
That's simply not true, the New York and Florida incidents happened before "drones" even existed. Look it up....

Great Job!!! I started flying in "69" and would have never dreamt that this could have happened!
I have been told clearly by my club that I need to have a remote ID in order to fly. Given how thick the woods are around our field, I expect this module will pay for itself.
If your club doesn't have a FRIA, then you would technically still need a RID module to be compliant. Compliance is YOUR choice, and I'm just trying to help with some level of clarity, but don't think I want you to do it, or not do it ;)

Clearly, a motivation is to increase dues for the AMA. They do some good for the hobby but understand they are a money-raising organization. This is what most of their money is geared toward, raising more money to build the kingdom.
Yeah, I don't doubt they're going to try to leverage this to raise funds, but I can think of WAY easier ways to raise money.
Couple things I’d like to share:
3. If someone does want to comply with remote I’d, there are far better and lighter options than Spektrum. That thing is unnecessarily huge.
Nah I am good. Thx. Congress should focus the FAA on actual air safety.. they don't have the best record lately.
I really appreciate your position and explanation of the situation. Your information on installing this optional equipment is awesome too. FWIW: there are sub250 cinewhoops that can do some high quality cinematic work.
Get the module, plug in a 2S, keep it in your pocket, my module on my "private" property, I'm in compliance.

Do you need to use the little battery pack if you are flying 3s, 4s, or 6s airplanes?

P.S. I never used the sliders on my DX18 either. Just never had a reason to use it.
Maybe there’s a silver lining in that more people will get red pilled from all of this ridiculous over reach from the gov.
💯👍
I feel like you have done a great job, of talking too us, thanks BFRC.
We appreciate that! We really debated about how to handle this, but we didn't want to NOT say anything.

Stamp collecting is next! Those potentially sticky little piece of paper could give you a paper cut. Don't give up on RC! :)
Very well done. I feel your thoughts are probably with the majority of flyers. The added telemetry is nice but it shouldn’t be mandatory to have this device. I’m glad camera crew was there to keep you on task, Otherwise, this would’ve been even longer.
yes, and yes - good thing she was there to steer the ship back on course ;)
Also one more question is about the battery size. I see on the package it says any battery 3.5 to 9 volts. Ok I got that but it also says you can connect it to the bind plug on the receiver and power it that way? Ok but it does not mention if the battery is a 6S then to me its way over the voltage limit but again Spektrum does not say any info on this connection and voltage limit, can you just plug it into the bind prot on the receiver and your good to go no matter what battery? your not going to fry the module?
And so it begins... did our elected officials make this law? Did congress pass this? If not...it's not legal and and cannot be lawfully enforced
Nope and nope. We agree.
Gun owners: "first time?"
@@mkultraificationlol, I hear you...the line in the perverbial sand has to drawn
@@BrianPhillipsRCif agencies can write and enforce law...then UMX and E-Flite for example should write their own laws. Makes as much sense
The AMA is not in support of the R/C modeler.

I can promise you this.......I WILL NEVER EVER COMPLY with remote ID never gonna happen period and I'm going to keep flying.
We hear you and don't blame you one bit.
One more question, could you use that to find your plane if you lost it?
Someone needs to send a link of this to the FAA and tell them to read the comments…
