I finally had the courage to madien my new umx timber evolution this weekend on my brand new NX8, so a double madien. I've only been flying for about 2 months. Started on the apprentice stol. Ive stopped crashing that and developed muscle memory on the sticks hence my courage to try this one. All I can say is this plane and the transmitter are absolutely sensational. I set it up exactly as the manual but I found that I needed high rates straight away. It flies so slow even without the slats fitted I could pluck it out of the sky if i wanted to. I also have the optional floats which I haven't tried yet. I started out on the 2's battery but today I also tried the 3s. For now I will stick with the 2's because it is less responsive to throttle on the smaller battery and easier to fly slowly. Thanks for your great review of this plane which helped me make the decision to buy this plane and also the nx8 from previous videos. If anyone has been sitting on the fence wondering if they should buy it or not for goodness sake go and get one get one, you will definitely not be disappointed. I've just ordered the unx air tractor too. 👍
Thank you for your testimonial! YOU are the exact person we're trying to reach!!! "Out of the chair - into the air" - and in 2-3 years, you'll be buying and flying WHATEVER YOU WANT ;) It's gonna be so much fun! Cherish these early days of knowing how to fly, they are some of the best in the RC experience.
...and KEEP AT IT! Time on the sticks is going to help reinforce your very limited muscle memory, and soon, you'll not even "think" about it at all...it's WEIRD when that happens...you will only make a mistake when you "Think about it" - and when this happens, I hope you remember this strange, off the wall comment, and laugh out loud!
Good luck, and thanks for being here with us!
I was told to use the 3S battery instead of 2S, even though I want to do slow fly stol mostly. Is the prop pitch matched to 3S preferred to 2S by design? Thanks.
@@washburnb1 it depends on your budget. I've got plenty of 2's batteries for the apprentice Stol and because of my limited experience at the time chose to fly on the 2's. But now I've had way more experience and I also have the umx air tractor you would probably be better off just going for the 3s and using some expo on the throttle if need be to give it more control at lower speed. 3S will give you much quicker/ shorter take off and potentially get you out of trouble quicker. But this plane will float quite happily to the ground on zero throttle. I have fitted the slats but I honestly haven't noticed much difference in how slow it flies.
As far as the umx air tractor goes I much prefer using a 3S battery as the 2s makes it a little sluggish. Hope
This helps your decisions. Paul.
@pauld7056 Thanks for this info. That is what my hobby shop said, get a 3S. I'm not so fast on the sticks, so thanks for the gradual throttle setting idea. How was the CG with battery out of the box?
@@washburnb1 if I remember correctly the 3s goes all the way to the rear of the Velcro and the 2s goes about 1/4inch (10mm) further forward. But if you use the slats that will change a bit as well
Hey Brian - I had exactly the same trim issues out of the box that you did. After seeing you mechanically adjust the rudder and elevator I sat down to do mine. I inadvertently bumped the elevator control rod while holding it with the pliers and it popped off the knuckle!! LOL - I accidentally figured out that you just pop them off, turn them to the right adjustment, them pop them back on!! Way easier that way - who knew?!
NICE!!! Wish I would have done that, but boy-o-boy, they were a pain without!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Absolutely. Like you, I completely ran out of trim on the elevator and the rudder was off by something like 20+ clicks. MUCH better now that it's adjusted! Thanks for the hugely helpful show!
Hi! i also had the same problem with elevator and rudder.Had to give 100% elevator adjustment and it still dont fly stright.Need some adjustment of the control rod here!
i did just pop em off and on again with my finger nails! love ur videoes Brian.I always go to your channel when i setup a new Eflite plane @@BrianPhillipsRC 🛩
I used a small set of ball link plyers I have for my helicopters to pop the control end off the ball link. I was never going to get a timber but Tower had almost half off scratch and dent sale so I had to get one. I loved the turbo timber so much after I flew it I ordered another for backup!! I love your videos Brian!!! You always do an awesome job and I'm so excited to see your place when the pond is finished!! Love what you and Megan are doing for the hobby!!!
That weather! Stunning! Well done camera crew; managing that exposure was spot-on and you captured the flight and scenery beautifully.
Glad you enjoyed it! Megan is very good on the camera!!! Snow makes it hard for sure!
Just a quick tip on awkwardness with doing work on your TT UMX. If you take the top piece of styrofoam and flip it over, you can put your UMX upside down onto it and it makes a great platform to do work on it safely.
NICE! Great idea Rick!!!!
Great video! I fly IMAC with the big 42% gassers and can tell you after watching this and knowing nothing about this specific little plane, that your CG is too far back which is why it needed so much down elevator trim. You need to move weight forward to fix this (battery closer to the nose or RX further forward, etc). Add weight as a last resort. Also, it’s always better to mechanically adjust anything you can. Using trim will show you what the airframe needs mechanically, often wing incidence adjustment or weight shifted.
Thanks for a great video Brian! Looking at foamies as I’m just getting my kids into flying!
You saved my plane. On the maiden last year, my UMX Timber leaped into a porpoise on takeoff and nearly did a peter pan into the asphalt. Was in the fight of my life to land it. Had no idea mechanical trim was a thing until I saw this video. I would've just ripped off the slats, I'm glad I didn't. After mechanically trimming the plane, I took it out Saturday, it's flight resembles and now rivals my favorite UMX Tractor. Can't thank you enough for that pro tip
Excellent! So many little tidbits we try to share, and so glad it made a difference for you! Thanks for the feedback, and thank you for being here with us!
For the landing gear being pushed into the foam problem: I took a few small squares of regular paper towels, positioned them between the plastic and fuselage, soaked it in super glue and it is now an extremely hard layer that the plastic can't penetrate. Works well.
Good idea, I used white gorilla glue tape, it’s been solid ever since, just cut small pieces to go underneath fuselage.
@@jjs3287 yeah clear tape was my first try but the plastic punched right into it denting the fuselage
We did this years ago on our video - LOL - I have to assume you're a long time follower, and were just making a hilarious dad joke, just now ;) GOOD WORK!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC dude you caught that lmao. I did it to my original timber when I watched you do it. Genius. Friggin love how you blew up. I remember you flying outside your old house dodging street lights lolol
I used a small bead of clear silicone adhesive to cushion and hold in place. It's been good so far, and I'm beat em up with a 3s 800mAh bat.
Brian you're a great pilot. You humbly criticize yourself but you do a great job flying while narrating. Great work. I'm so happy to have found your channel. Thanks for all the work and information you put into all of this.
I knew Horizon would do this. I couldn’t make myself like the UMX Timber X so I sold it. 3S and an improved backside is all this UMX Turbo Timber needed. Ordered one a few minutes after seeing the email. Way to go HH!
She's a winner!
Proud to be your 1st Patreon donator when it started!
Super, grab and go airplane. The flaps are really nice and with landing flaps I was able to drop down from 30ft or so, power off, and glide down to a super smooth landing. SWEET!
Order placed!
I do appreciate your effort to teach basic things for new folks. Charging is alway a mystery to folks, and is the one thing you need to do right AND respect. Charging is the one thing that will burn your house down if abused. How do I know? Back at the beginning of Lipos I came close to starting a garage fire due to an accident setting up a charger that didn’t have a balance port (they were just coming into existence). Fortunately I stopped charging when I saw the puff and got worried, I set battery in driveway to be safe. 1 min later, a pop and then a massive blue hot flame that would have set my garage ablaze. Lesson learned.
1C standard charging, and storing batteries at 3.8ish/cell in cool place like small fridge gives you years of use.
Keep up the great service!
yep
Thanks!
Thank you!!! ;)
You are awesome Brian! Thanks for taking the time actually explain and show how to do it all.
Glad it was helpful! We try HARD to not leave out anything too important, but it would be impossible to hit every single question, so I feel real guilty when I can't get back to everyone on comments....so here I am ;)
thanks again for being here with us!
@@BrianPhillipsRC great to hear back from you!
I’m in Toronto Canada learning to fly and you’ve been super helpful. I have the SUS and the UMX Turbo timber evo.
Wow is taking SAFE off a different story haha
Off to buy some foam glue 😔
@@BrianPhillipsRC I unfortunately lost my UMX turbo timber evo on the weekend. Flew in some winds that were a little high, got too high…plane wasn’t fully recovered (wouldn’t roll left properly) and had to wave goodbye
Was thinking of getting the UMX timber X. I’ve seen your videos on the UMX X and her big sister haha. Do you think it’s best to stick with the evo if I can get my hands on one or give the X a shot?
The battery info was awesome now i get it thanks!! Have been watching lots of videos and read forums witch was frustrating but you explained it flawlessly!! Super thanks Brian!!
I built a foam board UMX Timber X, I've been flying it on 2S, yesterday I finally got a couple 3S 500mah 50c batteries and omg I've never flown a plane with unlimited vertical till yesterday and holy cow what a fricn thrill 😁 I just had to share this with ya!!! hehe
Nice flying Brian 👍🏻 Absolutely love the this plane!!!
I need to stop watching this channel, every time I do a new plane arrives at my door. you guys are great!
I'm so glad I can help enable your addiction ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC i hope you have an extra room, for when his wife divorces him.😂😂
So couple weeks back I was playing with the UMX Turbo Timber in Real Flight and was thinking this is sweet little plane. Then my heart sunk when I found out this was discontinued. Then joy of joys, I get an email this morning from HH and this little joy is now available. Of course the first thing I thought was I need to go see if Brian has reviewed it yet. Dang not yet. Go get a cup of coffee, come back and refresh and boo-ya here it is! Just placed my order with the links cause I love to support you and your wonderful wife (camera crew)! Now then lets hope it gets here for my birthday that is in a couple of weeks! Love all your videos guys! Keep the long formats coming!
Thanks Michael, and I know some would be pretty worried, but this newer, better option is gonna fill the void near perfectly.
Wow.. what a great little flyer. I have my old V1 UMX TT with 2S.. I can’t wait to see how it flies under 3S power and improved stiffness. It should hold up to winds better I’m assuming.
Another great VID Brian and always thanks to the “Camera Crew” for withstanding the harsh cold to bring new content to us hungry grownups (aka kids).
I own one and LOVE it. Your demonstration was awesome. I left my slats off, and had no idea we could mechanically adjust trim. My plane tends to fly with a severe nose up attitude like yours did. Great video!
Great tutorial on radio setup for the UMX turbo evo, (don't know why forward programming receiver not included) Makes it more complicated for me. That is where it falls short of Evolution. Thanks Brian!
I wonder the same thing. Why not allow access to Forward Programming? It would be super cool if we slavaged a multipurpose brick from a UMX for another custom built model.
I put a 3s 800mah battery in it and it flies fantastic with the added weight in the front!
Nice!!!
New to the hobby. Stepped up to this umx timber turbo Evo today. From the plane to the battery and charger and the radio, this video was so helpful. Thanks. Subscribed.
Brian- greatest complement from Horizon Elite Support when I told him of the issue you had. “I must say, there is nothing more thorough than a Brian Phillips RC Product Review. By the end of one of his videos, you know everything, good or bad, with the product. I will definitely pass on his discovery and technique to the product team.”
LOL - nice!!!
I love your videos with the way you review, and you are the MAN. We love ya brother.
Thanks!!!
thx for headsup on the elevator mech adjustment - out of the box mine needed that and rudder tweak - using a small "L" shaped hex key i was able to to gently bend the adjuster screw without having to push it through the fuselage - which i don't like doing to a brand new plane - looking forward to maiden flight when the wind calms down here
Sure thing! Glad you got her done without the hole ;)
All you needed to do to adjust the elevator ball link is to put a little flat head between the horn and the top edge of the ball link and twist. The ball will pop out of the plastic quite easily. Make your adjustment, then pop it back on by pinching it between your finger tips.
SOLD OUT TILL JUNE NOW!! So glad mine is on its way as i type. :-) Thank you for this amazing video. I have watched it twice now in its entirety!
One of my FAVs! I switched out to xt30 and run 850 mah 3s , Velcro on battery and on place cg
Very fun plane!
I was totally thinking about making this thing take a bigger battery. The battery tray/opening is HUGE, and she flies like she could handle more payload. Now I need to play with this idea some more. Thanks Hola ACchillin
I finally got this plane. It's my first hobby grade plane. Thanks for all the information on this one. Definitely a big reason I got this plane. I did figure out that you can get to that screw on the elevator without punching a hole in the foam. I just used my ifixit kit and was able to slightly bend the tab and take the screw out and adjust the trim then put it back in with no issue.
I wish I knew what half of what you said means. I'm sure I'll learn it. I received this plane today. It is my very first RC plane. My 3s batteries arrive in three days. That being said, I probably won't fly it for at least a month. I want to spend many hours training on RealFlight 9.5 before trying to fly the real thing. Thanks for this video. It's great to get some tips before taking the first flight.
I,m sooooo excited, I just bought the new UMX TT Evo!!! Everywhere had them back ordered until June and I only had to drive 65 miles to put my hand on one, now if the weather will cooperate I'll be flying tomorrow!
Thanks! Please respond to my recent comments on your new Conscendo video and the UMX Turbo Timber evo.
Thanks so much!!!
I had to do the same adjustment on my Timber X. I pre-ordered one of these!
I just got mine today. Both aileron servos were stuck. Weird. Got those freed up and I love it. Flys awesome. The envelope is huge on this model.
It's still on backorder everywhere I have looked here on the east coast.
@@marquisbetz7694 I got mine at hobby town. Was the last one, display model hanging from the ceiling;). I’ve got about 12 flights on it now and love it. It’s so cool.
I think I just found my next plane! Great video Brian! Have you seen the new freewing airliner? I think you need one of the those! Megan, 100% THE BEST camera crew!!
Thanks! Your reviews are SO much more complete than those of the rcsaylors.
Rcsaylors are garbage haha
Thanks! I don't mean to pick on the Saylors, but love to hear that we've struck a chord with your needs!!! We love this stuff, and even in it's "imperfect state" there's some very good things coming from all the major brands right now. We're honored to be in a position to help showcase these products.
Always an awesome video and completion experience with BrianPhillipsRC ! The best way to start my Day ! Thanks Brian and Megan ! :}
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Johnny!
Mr. Phillips always creating the best videos!
around 6:00 you may have experienced a common issue as i’m sure you potentially know. the elevator under load will occasionally lock up. eflight is yet to address this and it’s very aggravating.
yeah, we usually set them to 95-97% if I remember, to resolve this issue.
Remember on ur transmitter, you have a sub trim option.
That sub trim option allows you to put the transmitter settings basically back to a new neutral, for lack of better words.
Anyway, mess around with that one day after you have trimmed her up.
no way thats a thing???
@Carl 0s yeah it is lol.
Almost no one uses the function.
I've rarely ever seen anyone demonstrate how to use it.
@@todtalk3912 I've used sub trim settings several times. Comes in handy if needed.
Yes, but it’s ALWAYS better to mechanically adjust things. After trimming. Using trim will show you what the airframe needs mechanically, often wing incidence adjustment or weight shifted.
I fly big 42% gassers and I can tell you watching this, his CG is too far back which is why he needed so much down elevator trim.
Awesome! I’ve been waiting to see this video all day! Looks perfect, like I love my Turbo Timber but sometimes I wish I had a little bit more power! Really looks impressive! Should of had the floats out on the snow!
With floats, no more surface tension getting in the way of breaking from the water!!! I hadn't even thought of that!
bro your flying is amazing and your wife is amazing
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the battery tape entertainment. I laughed.
Awesome!
Looking fowrad to getting mine when they get here.... (Switzerland)... we cannot have enough Timbers... ;) I always loved the UMX Turbo Timber, but I am happy I can get 3S power now and that will help to fly it in more windy conditions.
It will definitely help!
I wish Eflight would come out with some quick adjustments for these.
Also, I didn't mind the little U shape adjustments.
Yeah, it's cool to see real linkages.
However, at least make the screw easy to get to.
I agree..."U"'s were fine in my book...but I guess later on, with some of the next generation UMX'es coming soon, the ball links are gonna come in handy ;) ;) :)
@BrianPhillipsRC Yeah I def agree. Valid Point.
Very nice! :) Perfect for flying around the house.
Just watched Horizon Hobby's preview vid.. Awesome plane, gotta get one!!! hehe
I received my brand new NX8 today. I did buy it from your link to help you out. This plane looks like a good starting point to get back into RC, even tho it is small. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Lee! It will help out, and you'll love it! Good luck
Great, clear practical advice. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! We really appreciate the feedback!
Brian you killed that plane with that screwd. 😭🤣💪🏻 But anyway, thank you for your videos, even if they are sometimes punk AF 🤣
LOL - exactly...ran it right through ;)
we all were hoping for this!!!
I like the flying in the snow flakes even better man. I'll get that one through you next week cause I want something to jack around with that's no hassle. But good job man. 👏
Thanks, and snow flying is so much fun, but way more fun if it's coming straight down!!! This was WINDY and snow ;(
@@BrianPhillipsRC except you made it look smooth and EZ.
No need for hole! :)
When I went to do link adjustments, all I had to do was pop the ball-link off, adjust, and put back on. Maybe your early production was setup different.
I preordered mine finally got it 6 months after I seen this video September 26th and still has the same problems as yours did. Horizon Hobby better step up their game otherwise foreign competition going to take over the hobby
You're JUST getting it now???? REALLY???? That's crazy! Very sorry for your wait!
@@BrianPhillipsRCI got it yesterday 😂 your video helped me a lot thank you
Great video Brian! I learned a lot of useful stuff. Thanks!
Great video! i believe those are ball links you need a pair of ball link pliers to take them off or try a small flat head screw driver.
These will fly fine with a 3s 800mAh bat. But the landing gear take a beating with all that extra weight. I'm not greasing anything, yet. But, I'm new.
All the Foam2Foam and HD clear packing tape doesn't detract from these new UMX's either. Take my word for it 👍
The Saylors also ran out of elevator trim - (or nearly so).
I'm surprised that Eflite didn't provide an elevator trim hole during manufacturing.
I didn't catch their video, but saw some of their Instagram blasts. It was an easy fix, but still kinda annoying
I just have 400mm warbirds now but I've been considering either the UMX Air Tractor or this plane for my next purchase. After flying both in Real Fight I've decided that this plane will be my next airplane.
Merci pour le clip je suis du Québec
That nose in looks familiar! Apparently the elevator servo sticks as it did on my brand new turbo timber. Mine stuck in a dive and was a total loss. Since then I’ve heard of it happening to others. Looks like they still haven’t fixed the issue even on the evo…
It is a great looking little plane. Might have to replace the umx timber x as my gym flyer. I bet this one slows down more.
It's a bit late but it looks like your leading edge slats are touching the wing on the trailing edge. The slats are supposed to stand off the wing and allow air to pass under them. This slows the air over the wing creating more lift.
If you could see closer, you'd see there is a gap. It's very small, so understandable hard to see on even our video.
BUT yes, there is supposed to be a gap, as you said.
I flew the UMX TT and the Skipper in double digit winds yesterday from the boat. You just have to land down wind to get her back. I think reverse thrust would only sink the tail. I don't even use reverse thrust on the only water plane I have with it built in (Avios Albatross v2). I also think 3S is just silly on this plane. UMX Timber X, yes. But not the TT. Still, that shows how good the UMX Turbo Timber really is. Fresh lipstick is all they could come up with to "evolve" it. LOL. As luck would have it, I prefer the red.
I like when the camera person gives wind speed and direction. You should add that to future vids as standard.
Perfect plane for those who need (in reality, WANT) more power vs the UMX Turbo Timber! My UMX Timber X is crazy powerful on the 3s 300mAh battery. This UNX TT Evo should be similar in power, if a little more docile in handling.
Try the umx voodo p51 motor in umx timber x. A good amount of more top speed and nice quiet sounding motor... No more squealing
@@jonnycatt138 interesting thought. I might try that in the UMX Timber X that I restored recently. Then I can compare it with the other one I have that’s factory stock.
@@Joe_Zajac for sure. Let me know what ya think
Just realized the UMX TT Evo has the same SPMXAM1208B motor as the P51D Voodoo, so forget what I said about being more docile than the UNX Timber X. As Jonny Catt suggested, I’ll upgrade my X with this motor and.see how they compare with motors being equal. I assume this motor using everything else in the X as is won’t burn out the ESC on the X…
It sure is!!! 3S on this particular plane was never "Necessary", but the P-51, P-47, and a few others really screamed for more power ;) I still think more power is generally a good idea on planes. It really saves planes lives!!!
The umx timber x had the same issue with mechanical
Adjustment of the elevator. Horizon even had a short video on it. I believe if you trim full up elevator you can get your screwdriver through the hole in the vertical stab and just be able to get to r the elevator ball link without putting a new hole in your fuselage 😬. They also recommend to reinstall the ball link on the outside of the control horn for easier adjustment I. The future 👍
Thanks Travis, and I'd still probably just heat up the driver and plunge it through, if we hadn't have been in such a hurry at the moment. I do wish they would have put it the other way, but think the control rod would have bound more in that direction :(
@@BrianPhillipsRC definitely looks like it would be a pretty steep angle mounted on the outside. I didn’t do it on my timber x for that reason but horizon said it would be ok 🤷♂️😂
I got mine and crashed but fixed it with hot glue. works just fine now
Brian, Thank you for the explanations. Are you able to Program Crow into this plane?
I think a ultra low profile screwdriver/ratchet may do the trick for elevator adjustment
Great video Brian. You can’t have too many Timbers in my honest opinion!
100%
Throttle trim is off the left stick and elevator trim is off the right stick....me thinks Brian is a bit dyslexic? Haha had to jab you on that one! Great Demo Dude
Thanks and LOL ;)
Beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Looks fun Brian😊
some of those lipos are scary puffy
Yo brian. Just setting up my umx evo, and my flap settings in the manual are the opposite to what yours say. When deploying flaps, should the elevator compensate by going up or down?
The elevator will compensate for inboard flaps, like on this plane, by pointing the tip of the elevator down...aka making the nose point down.
Here's another way of thinking about it...
When you deploy the flaps, the plane will naturally start "ballooning" or flying up. We want to counteract this asap, and in a nice linear fashion to kinda match the speed of the flaps deployment. This will help the plan to fly straight and level, and slow down, if all other controls are set.
If you're not sure the elevator is moving the right way, set the elevator compensation WAY HIGHER and see what direction it moves, then set it to the called out value in the manual.
Good luck - you got this. This is easy once you GET IT...I promise.
@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for the reply Brian, love your videos. I made a proper mistake earlier, hit a tree, broke the rudder off and half the front fuselage. It's really ruined my birthday haha.hopefully get her back in the air with some glue and tape
Managed to get out tonight now she's glued, adjusted the elevator like you had to in the vid and she flew absolutely perfect.
Cool! Liked!
Thanks!
This NEED a 2nd thought preorder already sold out in uk 😂
Great Video Brian. I need help on my umx tt evo. I need to mechanically adjust my rudder and elevator but cannot find a ball link pliers small enough for this plane. Any suggestions?
Mate she lets you work on the kitchen table. 😊
Hey Brian, i watched your 2hour and 36minute video on the E-flite Slow Ultra Stick 1.2mm bnf basic with AS3X and SAFE select.... by the time it was done, i wanted more..... great job on the servo mode.... i have a quick question, i noticed on this video when you set the dual rates and expo you put 100% rate 5% expo on high rate
100% rate 10% expo on mid rate and
90% rate 20% expo on low rate
My question is did you mean to put 90% on low rate instead of 70% because im following everything you did, i just wanted to make sure that is what you meant to do....thanks , i just bought this plane and a E-flite 800mm draco and heading over to that video next..... thank you for your detailed explanation, i truly appreciate it. You and your camera crew are absolutely the best on UA-cam......PERIOD!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words regarding the length of the video ;)
AND, yes, the low rates are MORE expo plus almost all the rates. This gives you authority if you pull the stick all the way back, but the center is "softer" in the "lower" rates.
You did say how I set them correctly. This is kinda my "standard" setup, but it and anyone else's setup will be somewhat subjective, so take it worth a grain of salt. You might want MORE expo or LESS rates, but we're trying to hit a good starting point for most.
Let’s see…a new Vette or a Turbo Timber…I’m going with the Timber. Save a few bucks and still have fun!
LOL - Seems an unfair comparison ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Well…I can AFFORD the Timber!
It's actually easy to pry the black plastic linkage off of the ball, make your adjustment, and snap it back on the ball. No need to puncture your nice new airplane. I'm just saying. :)
If you can do it without damaging the control horn / elevator, this is always better. A few people pointed out my mistake a while back, but honestly, I don't mind making access holes to get a screw driver in there. I used to do it all the time on AILERON servos...you know how you can't usually get the control arms to pull off without first removing the screw...without this diagonal hole/channel down to the Phillips head screw, you'd have to do even more work to get in there...worked like a charm then, and still now, if necessary.
Finally, my ball link pliers are too big for this one, if I remember right, but to all their own - thanks for the tip
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian. It's been ridiculously hot here in central Texas this summer. Watching you fly in the snow was good for my mental health. LOL Plan on ordering this plane soon. I'll be sure to use your link.
Spent a lot of time figuring out how to charge the 2s without the discharge lead, could've watched your video instead 🤣
Hey Brian, greetings from Wisconsin! This is my first hobby grade plane, running a nx10 also. My book has different values for the flaps/elevator setup. It is opposite. What I need to know is: when flaps go down does the elevator go down also? Thanks!
In preflight check right aileron servo freeze issue was resolved by a gentle pinch of the servo housing to wake it up and it would be good for the entire flight. But then odd flight behaviors became more prevalent which I attributed to wind variance. I set the max to 97%. That's not it. I don't want to crack the fuselage to replace the right servo but what choice do I have? I hope there's a fix you see that I don't
Horizon hobby have a video on how the adjust the elevator manually without make a hole in the plane. Its a video of the Timber X. Just bend the elevator slightly to get the tool int the screw.
But this is not the Timber X, so I can't say if it's the same. Honestly, the extra hole isn't a big deal for me, but some might be more concerned. If I had to do it over again, I'd head up the screw driver first for a cleaner hole
"i win you win we win together" brian mf phillps RC BABY!!! WOOOO
Thanks! We do all win ;)
I need some advice!!! What should I get!! The umx turbo timber evo or the umx a-10? I got a fair size field behind my apartment complex that I fly at. Does the turbo timber evo fly great?
Turbo Timber UMX will be better for a small area. The A-10 is great, but it's less forgiving, and less "every-day-flier"...
BUT the correct answer is, of course, BOTH ;)

"we don't call her camera crew off camera"
Immediately I start thinking of hilarious moments where you can call someone camera crew.
"And do you, Brian, Take this lovely camera crew to be your wife?"
"I do"
I want umx warbirds with retracts lol, or at least 800 MM size would suffice.
Retracts would be sweet, but they're so light. A guy made some into his P-47 years ago on UA-cam...about the time I was adding flaps to my UMX planes...and loved them! I think he used a single 5 gram servo to pull a linkage between the mains - was super cool!
Did you add the slats right away or did you fly it without them before deciding to put them on? Haven’t flown mine yet but not sure if I should put them on or not
3s Hell Yeah
I didn't realize how small the battery compartment is for this one and I thought I'd be ahead of the game by ordering the 3S 850mah smart batteries complete with adapters to plug ic2 into a JST connection. I could not find a way to make those fit without some serious alteration so I'm posting this for others to learn from my mistake and just stick with the 3S 300mah that Brian shows in this video. Now I'm waiting on the 300mah's to be delivered and not flying the plane. I guess I need to find a plane to get that works with these 850mah's now.
It is tight, and the lead will make it a very tight fit, even if you could shove it in there.
Tail heavy talked about over confidence. I flew the UMX TTE in 10 MPH winds with 22MPH gusts and it was the hottest day this year ie thermals were a factor. It was a mistake. Still at the stage where... You'll know it when you take off and immediately think what have I done? Your instinct will be to just land and call it a day. Here's my takeaway. Takeoff and do repeated base to final. But it would not descend in the headwind. So I got it hanging there with forward pressure on elevator. Realize, we're still in takeoff flaps. Flip the switch, maintaing throttle and elevator and the UMX TTE came down like an elevator, touched down like a daisy. But I should've never taken off in the conditions today.
@@U.S.A.1791 that's one beautiful bird, RTF EP foam and steerable nose? . Pardon my french but a big bitch for a starter. Don't get me wrong my hat is off to you. I would've never had the stones to start on a Ranger. But you totally realized an important aspect on your maiden. How do I slow this to land this, or do I fly it into the horizon, Calmly drop the transmitter in the trash, Strip off the gloves into the trash and calmly walk to where I'm parked. "Hello there, beautiful dog you have there. Yeah, my kid is playing soccer.... He's number.... Hey look squirrel."
So they replaced the motor to a lower KV which allows 3s lipo and changed the color, alright I am in :). That is the mod I did to make it fly 3S and its really fun !
How come we didn't get to see the first maiden flight? I got mine last Friday. Been terribly windy here all spring but had a surprise lull Sunday. First flight lasted only seconds and if it is repairable it will probably require some new foam. I put the CG right on 28mm and the plane was uncontrollably tail-heavy. Even you crashed. Reminds me of the debacle with the UMX Timber X where they moved the CG several mm. I'm so disappointed right now, to put it mildly. Saw another guy's video on this plane and he put the real CG at 35mm and it flew great.
I been flying my Duet, got me a couple other beginning planes, plus, that UMX Turbo Timber Evolution, I’m scared to go at it with it. Got an DX8G2 transmitter and followed the instructions by the book. Any words you can recommend for me to learn? Please advise
Don't be scared. You don't need to be scared. Fly, fly, and fly some more, and you will eventually not be scared. It takes time, and some people just aren't afraid, while others (normal people) just have to work through that process. I'm one of those and still get the "heebee jeebees" when I'm flying a new plane, especially a FAST one that might eat up our relatively short runway.
great umx flyer Brian, do you think the 3 blade prop will fit the umx timber x?
🛩🛩
I don't actually know, but the Timber X is WAY more aggressive in general, so not sure how this will work out.
