We are living in the “golden age” of guitars and pedals. 20 yrs ago a $250-$300 guitar would get you a not so nice guitar. Now $250-$300 will get you a guitar you can gig with. I see the same with pedals. You can get a lot of pedal with a little money. With good tone. Blessings bro

Hmm. I disagree. Most nice guitars were $350 and they were high end at the time. Now they’re 10x more for a high end guitar

Joyo is great company that makes HQ pedals which are on the same level as some well known ''boutique'' brands, often Joyo makes a better pedals and all that for a lot less $. The build quality of the entire R serial is superb and i'm saying that as electronic engineer who btw make pedals for fun. Moreover, their classic serial is super HQ and pedals cost like 30$US. There are other great brands as well from Aisa. I'm glad that you made that video. IMHO people who buy Joyo or similar stuff don't have to feel that they got ''entering level, good for the price pedal, , starter, cheep etc pedals'', that is MYTH spread by some envious boutique wonna be owners and repeated by their fans. They have to find excuses for the overpriced items 🤫
JOYO pedals are among some of the best pedals out there, and i'm glad they are helping musicians to get 1st class items for a normal prices.

Joyo does have some pricy boys too tho. I think they can keep the price so low cuz they sell the hell out of these things and good good them. Not one person alive could tell the difference in a blind test.

Joyo is awesome and nailed it out of the park with the Revolution Series. The Uzi and Darkflame alone will go down in history (even though they are said “clones”)honestly what isn’t a clone these Days, and which ones do it RIGHT? Joyo does. Im blown away, I have a Rigel and Argos on the way, and I’m gonna pick up a US Dream (suhr riot clone) and Cab Box. Solid construction and My board lights up too! Excellent demo, this is on My list!

Anymore, dirt cheap dirt is the way to go, especially if you're doing any stacking. I can't really even justify anymore stacking with this unless you're taming a fuzz option. The response hints at natural compression and the EQ capabilities on this aren't even that necessary pending the tone of the guitar or amp as-is. Good review!

Good review. I own this pedal and I am impressed. It does sound good. The pedal itself looks nice and sounds good. Joyo has come a long way from its earlier pedals, which to be honest were good too, at least when it comes to tone. Their Vintage Overdrive (a tubescreamer clone) sounds like the real thing and for a good price. Joyo does offer an affordable alternative to people who want to get into pedals. I own high end pedals and some Joyo pedals and they can keep up with the higher end stuff.

I like when people say "high end" when what they really mean is "expensive". There's really no such thing as "high end". There is affordable, and there is expensive, and if the affordable stuff performs better, shouldn't you call the affordable stuff "high end"?
@@castleanthrax1833 The "higher end" stuff usually has better build quality and lasts longer than the affordable stuff. Early Joyo pedals sounded great but their build quality was low, because their switches tended to go bad and the ribbon cables they used were extremely poor quality. One had to be careful to not pull them by mistake. They did sound good, but their build quality was lacking as they did not always last long enough. "Higher end" pedals are more expensive because their build quality is there. Most of the ones I own have better switches, and better ribbon cables and feel sturdier overall. Overall the "higher end" stuff lasts longer and is backed by better warranties. You get what you pay for.
@@gloreano I don't necessarily disagree with you, but you don't always get what you pay for. You do get better stuff if you pay more, but isn't the kot 3 or 4 times the cost of the kok? If you pay "through the nose" like that, then you better get better switches, and a better build quality. The reason people pay stupid prices for pedals is to "brag" that they have them, and I'm referring to retail prices, not the ridiculous used prices that people will pay to avoid the waiting period, or get something that's no longer available.
@@gloreano What you wrote is incorrect. it's a sort of a myth spread by some ''boutique'' brand owners due to joyo and some other companies offering same and sometime better product for a smaller amount of$. " people who attacked Joyo in the past wet JHS and Wampler due someone shown JHS pedal and told it is bad due to it broke down, and mentioned how joyo and some others made better pedals for 50$. but that JHS made video about joyo how they are ''good as budget'' pedals etc...Anyhow for me as electronic engineer joyo is great. Also i dislike manipulations spread by some of those ''boutiques'' who made fortune by ripping of hard work of other people from DIY sites and forums.
Only when the clean sound setup is good, the recording equipment is respectable quality, we can form opinion on "sound". This is pretty good i think. I really can hear all the differences in settings. Thanks for your extensive tone experience with this pedal. You really have the ear to do just this!

Having purchased several JOYO pedals over time, my having gone back and bought others, when I can afford more expensive pedals, speaks volumes to me about the brand. they honestly make some pedals that perform way above the price point. There is no shame included in great value. (Gotta love both Dr. J and R series pedals, especially. )

What does this do that other pedals dont? What style of music does it mostly suit etc? What are others using it for?
I think it’s great for any style of music. It’s main selling point is it’s 2-in-1 feature. 2 overdrives for the price of one. Great for low to medium gain settings. Love it.

Would have liked to heard you play a single coil guitar like a strat to see what it sounds like with this pedal. I say this because I have the Joyo Taichi overdrive pedal which sounds really good with my dual humbucker LP style guitar. But when I play my strat with single coils I hear very little overall difference from my clean amp except for an increase in volume.....very, very, very little distortion/overdrive with single coils......although will say the Taichi supposed to be a low gain overdrive pedal.
Though these are mini “humbucker” pickups, the output is very low and they sound a lot like single coil pickups. Slightly thicker. Kind of P90ish without the 60 cycle hum. So I would say it’s a pretty good representation of a single coil sound.

I always hear about how the sound of a pedal is all in the circuit but people don't talk enough about tone plastic. What are those knobs even made of for that price?
Pretty sure they’re plastic, however, I’m not sure how they would affect the tone of the pedal.

I have this on my board at church, I was looking for an overdrive and stumbled upon the King of Kings while checking out King of tone clones. So it’s a clone of a clone (blues breaker) but the name was perfect so I grabbed one on sale ($59) it’s great, I use it after vibe and before compression.

I've been thinking about getting a KOT clone for a while now and this awesomely made video has made my choice easy. Between the switches being on the outside ( not a fan of turning the pedal over to flip a dip switch ) and a design that doesn't try to steal the actual look of the original coupled with your consistent playing makes the choice for me. Playing the same riff was a nice touch as there are plenty of reviewers that don't really compare "apples to apples" when adjusting the pedal. I have other Joyo pedals and have always liked the circuits but this R series' looks hit well above their price point.

I have both the KoT and the King of Kings. The Joyo is a great pedal and a really amazing value, but it is *not* a KoT clone. It does not sound like a KoT, the similarity is that it is a double OD pedal. I still recommend both.

Hell yeah! That sounds close enough to the KOT to me! I like Joyo, Caline and other budget pedals! They might be clones but why spend all of that money when you can get so close with one of these. I don't play live so I can EQ stuff in the mix.

Hey. I think you’re referring the “Clip” switch on both drives. If so, those are diode clipping switch. Essentially changing the voicing of the drive.
@@JCruzProject yeah I thought he referred to it as a feedback switch yeah there's one clip diode but then there's a second switch..

How many buffers do you have to put after it to save some tone?
I personally didn’t experience any noticeable tone loss going into this pedal.
When a pedal is activated, it is a buffer, even one that is "true bypass".
