Hey Chris. Do you still have this pedal and still use it? How do you have yours set up? OD on the red side and boost on the yellow like it is when you get it or....?
Thanks, brother! Hope you're doing well! 🙏🎸
@@JC-11111 That's the most popular way to run it. Depending on your amp / signal chain, you might enjoy setting both sides to clean boost and run 18V power for more headroom. The KoT excels at adding a little fatness to a strat without making it sound muddy. It also has a small mid boost for lifting a solo above the mix, especially on the yellow side.
I was like this sounds great and then noticed you hadnt turned it on yet.
Haha. Thank you!
I thought the exact same thing! 😂
Same lol
I think that happened to me, too! ...I was wondering for a long time if he'd turned it on or not. (as I was doing something else).
I just watched this video and I totally agree. The guitar, amp(or other device) and player are the main contributor.Sure, the pedal adds some grit and tone ,but not at that price. The hype around this pedal is something like the hype around Dumble amps.I've heard some equally great sounds from players that didn't come from either of these overpriced devices.Chris,if you never used this pedal, you would still sound fantastic,in fact,I preferred the sound you got pre -pedal.That's just my opinion,I could be wrong.
Your tone is in your fingers and the way you express yourself anything else is just icing on a cake
I think my favorite singer in the world is Chris Buck’s guitar.
Many players lack style but Chris has a distinct style
Ive been to Analogman's workshop and small doesn't really describe the size of his operation. Its micro. Three guys in a room with their faces deep in pedals all day. Super nice guys but all work and not much time to BS. It's like candyland tho.
C.J. Blake Cheers, C.J. I kind of suspected as much! I’ve never met Mike but he seems like a lovely guy doing things in the right way. I wish I could say that’s why I love my K.O.T but it’s mainly because it sounds badass 😂
Indeed it is badass. The first time I went was to get my 1980 TS808 serviced and by luck I ended up walking away with a KOT that day. Like you I was used to the TS and it took about two weeks before I got used to the transparency of the KOT. The dynamics the KOT lends to an amps tone is incredible. If people think the waitlist is about money, I can assure between all the pedals they make and repair, it's their size.
Analog Mike makes great stuff!
CHRIS BUCK,you can make anything sound amazing!
Came for the vid about the pedal, stayed for the playing: very nice and original ! 👍🏻🤘🏻
same here
Hype? whatever - it is reasonable priced, likely a good investment, well made, quality components, quiet operation & looks cool. This pedal is very versatile , I used it differently to this video tonight in band rehearsal with both Les Paul & Stratocaster, Marshall & 4 x 12 with the OD setting (full drive) and adding the boost for solos. Really pleased with the classic rock sound. Of all my pedals this to my ears has more clarity with note definition, doesn't cut/add frequencies or 'colour' the sound - gives you what you have, just more of it. It. It also stacks very well with other pedals.
Came for the demo, stayed for the playing. Wonderful playing and tone.
same here haha
Today is five years later. Analogman is working on May 7, 2018 as of
August 30, 2023. I got on the list 8/08/18. So I’ve waited 5 years and 2 months and still waiting. They say they build more in the winter thanks to a couple former employees not being able to farm so they build King of Tone pedals. So mine should be in sight. Thanks! Super cool.
I’m excited!
Damn. I was so inside the music that I forgot I was watching a demo of the kot.
Little late for the party, but the king of tone is amazing. It's reliable, ultra dynamic and beautiful tone no matter what guitar or amp. I'm glad I have it will never let my board.
You have a gift for playing that way, so expressively, so many changes and details coming fluid
No one else in the whole wide world can make a circuit board the same, that’s amazing!
The waiting list is like 3 years long now
@Ed Raposo i bet it sounds great, but honestly part of the fun is getting the Analogman
Came for the pedal. Stayed for the ridiculously good playing!
I got a KOT a couple months ago after two years on the waiting list. Definitely worth the wait!
Yaaaaaaay my number came up today! Been on that wait list for 4 years!! Ordering now….
People complain about the wait, but most guitarists already have 1 or more over drives & or distortions in their collections. I figured what's the big deal I put my name on the list. The time goes by so fast anyway. Now I will be coming up in the next two months or so already. Can't wait
why so many thumbs down?? thats a fair amount considering the ratio here.
Love my KOT, many don't set it correctly by adjusting the treble trim pots and miss the trick. With the dip switches set both to clean boosts, the OD when both are engaged is so magical its unreal.
That's how I set mine up - clean boost mode on both sides (bypassing the clipping diodes), 18V power for extra headroom and tons of volume, and I like the distortion sound of a different op amp in the yellow channel, an OPA2134 which costs under $5 with shipping. The op-amps are socketed so they are easy to change. Original op amps are JRC4580 a.k.a. NJM4580. The KoT excels at fattening up the tone of single coils and low output humbuckers in a different way than a Klon, while maintaining the character of the clean tone. It's not the best for heavy metal distortion.
OK, it sounds wonderful! As mentioned below, the tone was amazing before the pedal was even engaged. This pedal was just enough to make the rig behave like the amp was cranked, which is the intended result. I’m impressed, but with the player more than the pedal.
Got the Jeff Beck touch ..nicely done Chris !
Your playing is simply amazing... you're a gifted one.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd said that the king of tone is a must on his board. Enough said!
amazing playing, as per usual. hope the operation went well, mate!
Ben Radford Cheers Ben! Appreciate that mate.
Nearly gave up with all the talking but glad i stuck around because your playing is superb, so lyrical. Really tasty and musical player.
ah yes here it is. The video that caused the spike in the KOT waiting list around May of 2018. Cheers everyone and stay patient.
I got on the list in September, 2018. Got to the top in August, 2024.
Love the playing...could listen to that all day as I study.
You could record a full LP of you noddling like that on a guitar! I would be the first to buy it - probably not the last. You sound amazing. So much richness in your notes and seamless transitions between chords. Thanks for this!!
The king of tone is ABSOLUTELY worth it....especially if you play professionally and sounding good consistently is a matter of making your living.
I have two drives on my board...both of which I have ultimate faith in: my favorite tube screamer and a king of tone. When I need a good clean sound that’s easy on the fingers, it’s the ts. When I need a nice dirty sound, it’s a kot setting. For leads, it’s both...and that’s that. It sounds great every time...every single time.
I can totally understand a hobbyist looking at this pedal and thinking “yeah right...waiting lists and price tags....forget this”. That’s as reasonable as it gets and only a dick would argue with that. But when you play for keeps, you only work if your equipment functions correctly and sounds good every time you plug in. The king of tone is the only dirt pedal I’ve played that delivers that kind of reliability night in and night out. To be honest, it’s paid for itself so many times over at this point that it doesn’t even matter...it could cost twice as much and it would still be worth it for me.
What configuration do you have for the KOT? in terms of what gains each side etc?
WOW! That is some incredible playing man!
Hey Chris. Just found this video. Great playing. I have a KoT, as well. You may already know this, or one of the 250 comments may have mentioned it, but you didn't mention it in the video. Both sides of the KoT are identical. There are dip switches inside that allow you to set each side as either a boost, overdrive, or distortion. So you could have the boost into OD if you wanted it. It ships with OD on the Red channel and Boost on the Yellow. The most common option is to have the Red (right) side modded for slightly higher gain. Cheers man! Keep up with the great vids.
Yellow side has a little bit more mid boost than the red side.
I’m on the waiting list
Wonderful, expressive, articulate playing. This is better guitar playing than the wanky, technical stuff that loads of other dudes do. Oh, and the King of Tone is incredible. Analog Mike is the shit.
Yea, he's right up the road from me. Was nice enough to let me see the shop to drop off my TS-9 for a makeover. It's what you'd expect - a bunch of guys at benches in a dark room making insanely good pedals. I also give him major pros for resisting the urge to make a lower cost pedal overseas. If you want one right now buy used...
Ahh the wind cries CHRIS BUCK
Wind cries Mary sounded amazing
Beautiful playing. Great demo.
If you got yours in UK in18 mo, you must have a fairy godmother. Just got mine this month, in the US, after 26 months on the list. Its a great pedal. I have to admit, I originally got on the list only because I knew it was a no brainer since I could double my money if it didn't blow me away and thinking it wouldn't(especially since I also have a JHS Morning Glory). I ended up, not only keeping it for my P&W board, but getting back on the list to buy an additional one for my club gig board. I was a doubter until I actually got one and took the time to play it. Really, that's the thing that proves to me its not all hype. With most high dollar boutique pedals, its expected that some would want to mentally and emotionally justify having dropped a lot of $ on a pedal. It's natural to have a hard time admitting when you get suckered and not want to sell off at a loss. That doesn't apply with KoT because you can easily double your investment if it doesn't knock your socks off, yet so many choose to keep or even have multiples (as evidenced by their steady long term resale value). That, imo, is a healthy argument against those who claim that the KoT's rep is all hype. The oddly high, yet consistent, resale value completely negates any reason for anyone to perpetuate any so called "hype". If most of the original owners were dumping them, they wouldn't be able to double their money, while the fact that we could do so removes any reason, other than true merit, to be invested in keeping them. Of course, it could simply be that all of us who actually own a KoT aren't nearly as smart as Phil Smith.
Oooo man, what playing 👏👏👏, I’ve seen lot’s of great players but you are one of them.
I have KoT, great pedal, my favourite,...
After all equipment is not important, feeling and touch,...talent, that is !!!
Regards from Croatia
Absolutely beautiful playing and demo of that warm honey sound. Thank you
Your playing is amazing!
I bought into the hype and I'm glad I did.
Thanks for posting. I like how you played while adjusting the volume and drive on both channels. Like you I waited over a year to receive mine. I’ve had my KoT for 5 months now and still trying to figure out what the hype is about. I do find the tone sounds better on a custom built strat than my les Paul and SG.
Best OD I have ever owned. For humbuckers and single coils.
Beautiful playing and tone! Waited a year for my KOT back in ‘13. Still one of my best gear purchases.
I know what you mean about getting used to this pedal if you use a TS. I don't have a KOT but an exact copy and with it being lower gain than a TS, I had to get used to it. Then I found the dip switches and the high gain switches in the back and found out it does more than just low-mid gain. Wow! If the KOT is as good as the copy is, I can see why they're so hyped. This one is handmade, as well. It's a fantastic pedal. It's called the King of Drive by DemonFX
I post this to say that people can get on the waiting list and then buy one of those to hold them over for the next 2-4 years while they wait on their name to get to the top of the list. It's a valid option. There are some great copies out there. I have one and it's a fantastic pedal.
I have a King of Tone and a Prince of Tone and I prefer the Prince of Tone after playing around with the internal trim pots.
absolutley phenominal playing man
I dig the way you matched the colour of your sweater to the pedal.
Great tone and great playing.
Been on the list since October 2016😄.
You need to make a video on how to play the riff at 11:00-12:15.
Just WOW 😮
Click the wee cog icon and you can slow the vid down and learn it. Pretty handy feature.
God gave you ears boy.... lmao
I truly enjoy your playing. You have very pleasant and unique style. Very refreshing
Sounds incredible. I do believe there around some “off the shelf” pedals that can do a similar thing for those who can’t wait two years. Wampler Pantheon for a version with more gain and jhs morning glory for his take on the blues breaker circuit. All of these pedals sound great!
I have had 2 of them, wasn’t impressed with the first one and for some reason decided to try it again a cpl years later and still didnt keep it. Some people love it but its just not a keeper to me. I do have an Analogman mod’d ts9 that is a keeper, imo a much better pedal.
and Iv’e had a Royal Overdrive too and didnt keep that either
Nice playing!
Sheesh your playing is great. Thanks for the vid!
Absolutely gorgeous playing
Super tasteful playing and tone.
You are an excellent guitar player, really digging your style!
Take a good compressor (Wampler Alter Ego) a J. Rockett .45 Cal and put it before a J. Rockett Blue Note Pro. Adjust to your taste and find out how they all add to each other for Marshall tones.
Waiting list is at 5 years now, insane! I should be getting mine in 2025.
I decided to build a Stewmac kit that is a direct clone, I'm very satisfied!
I had two and they actually sounded different. Sold one.
Beautiful playing and tone!
Chris you are my new favorite guitar player. Please bring your band to the US and come to Birmingham Alabama.
just got my email to order today. Its been about 4 and a half years since I got on the waiting list!
I sent them an email through 3 different accounts and no automated reply. Hopefully on also on the list.
I was shocked when he said KOT used to be $500 back in 2018.. Its way above double the price right now!
Waiting list now 2 years 3 months! How do I know I will live that long?
You gotta be happy with the way that turned out. Bet Analog Man is. Good job, everyone involved.
Daaaaamn! Not only is the pedal awesome but your playing is even better! Awesome play through!
Dude, I love your playing!
nice playing ,beutifull touch, finally a reviewer worth to watch!!! nice job
Great timing for this video. The KOT has been on my mind for the last 3 weeks. Still a long wait.
Totally get it now
I've had four of them always try to love em but I always seem to move back to the vemuram jan ray
Guitar rig 5, holy sheet
Pedal? What pedal....dude has chops....pork chops...karate chops all kinda chops. fantastic playing...I forgot all about some pedal...what was it?
Wonderful playing dude, amazing phrasing!
your playing is so expressive...fantastic !!! :)
Beautiful playing there
analogman's pedals is the stuff you leer on them on youtube but you can't afford them, but then you can't even buy any other pedal cause it won't make you happy as if you bought his stuff, his attention to details is amazing, plus all handmade!
Tasty licks and tonality. You would sound great through any amp!
Man, I’d bet whatever pedal anyone give to you, you’d make it sound freaking delicious! The gear plays it’s parts, but it doesn’t play by itself. Right!? It comes from your bloody hands, heart and mind! Anyway, this mother freakin pedal sounds BEAUTIFUL!
You play beautifully and with so much feeling. I bought a KOT and I do lose a little low end. Do you lose any low end at all?
Great playing! Thanks for the KoT demo. Such a teaser with the Hendrix intro and not finishing it. Look forward to your videos.
SOULFUL !!! JUST SOULFUL!!!
Thank you for such sweet sounds, really great playing, with or without kot.
unbelievable tone!
I was waiting for the pedal to make you sound better, but you did that with out it. I think you can play amp dry and still sound good. Nice playing.
Hey laddy, let’s set aside the pedal for a sec... You really got it kid, the touch, feel style it was nice to finally hear real talent! Your playing drew me in and got my attention as all real music should. Very nice mate, keep up the good work 👍🏻. Now for the pedal, I think it’s a nice tone very musical...
Hi Chris!!!You have quickly become one of my best guitar players!!Truly inspiring!!!Would you mind sharing the Guitar Rig preset? Thanks!!!All the best to you!!
Pedal schmedal, if you can play like this, you could hook it up to a steam iron and make it sound hot!
Hello you do a really good job on this video. You play really good and its sound really really nice.
Can you tell me how the deep switchs are in your KOT ?
Have you put some treble with the depp potentiometer ?
I try to get the sound but it's really difficult.
Thanks a lot if you help me.
Lovely Playing, YOU.
Chris, Brian Wampler is winning the internet today......#pantheon. Waiting to hear you play it
Boosted your already great tone. Awesome playing.
You would make a box of bolts sound lovely! great playing, very inspiring thank you.
Great pedal, great playing, thanks for the vid
Your clean tone is amazing, man... This pedal is great, but your clean tone surprised me.
Gorgeous playing! Cheers from America.
Gal dang! You sound great, man; Not one wasted phrase.
