Hey Matt, I have one piece of advice (admittedly I didnt listen to this advice when it was given to me, and it cost me a ton of time and aggravation). Take a few days, and build yourself a large solid work bench. it will make every other project you do go so much faster and easier, you will make the time back and then some. Good luck guys, love the content.

Malsup is absolutely right. I finally built an 8x4 table and life became a lot easier…

This 100x. Imagine a solid bench on which you screwed down two pieces of wood at 90 degrees - how much quicker those corners being screwed together would have been.

Every house I’ve bought and renovated, first thing I would do is build a proper work bench. It would make my wife nuts, she’d say we have so much to do besides your work bench. If you don’t do stuff to make the wives have something criticize you about, they’ll find something. So make it easy for them like a large purchase or workbench. Then you won’t have to wonder why their pissed. Lol

You can get an electric fence that will corral the goats in a small area. They can clear out the vegetation and you can move it to another area on the property to clear out that area. Conservation areas use them all the time to remover invasive species.

Goats are amazing and one of the best things I hired when I had land to clear. They’ll eat brush, leaves, twigs and only eat grass when there’s nothing else left. They’ll pick off the flower heads and eat the leaves but they’ll leave the stalks, which holds the soil in place. Goats defecate a lot and their hooves stomp the pellets into the soil fertilizing it. Goats don't reseed from their waste droppings due to an advanced digestive system. They irrigate, a pint at a time, with nitrogen-tinged urine. They eat just about anything, including plants that are poisonous to other animals.

Livestock needs room, good advice but a two pen setup would be, might be advisable. The goats would eat in one pen, while the other pen replenished the grasses that was eaten.

For the next batch (as a vet, let me tell you, there will always be another batch), kittens' ears open at about a week, eyes by 2 weeks, and teeth by around 3 weeks. For orphans as soon as you see (or feel..) the teeth, you can begin feeding canned kitten food mixed with formula and by 4-6 weeks transfer to kitten food alone. I offer crunchy food as soon as I begin feeding canned, as soon as they start eating that, you can stop the formula and canned food. Hope your vacation was great and hope Bear is feeling better too!

I love this property! Try to learn how to cut half lap corner joints for your next set of panels. It will make them less susceptible to racking and is a much tougher joint. You can cut them with your circular saw. Save the mitered corners for picture frames and trim.

Hi Matt, when you're cutting mitres freehand, use the mitre square to run the saw along as a guide. The mitres will be way easier to cut and more accurate

  • @Yracker101
    @Yracker101 11 місяців тому

When your cutting sheet metal for roofing and such, best tool for the job is a nibbler, they attach and are bowered by the drill. Because they don’t throw sparks they don’t damage the coating on the metal and keep it from rusting, and you won’t go though so many cutting discs. 🤙

Instead of drawing a line with your speed square and then cutting with your circular saw...use your speed square as a guide and slide your circular saw along the edge of the speed square to make your cut...it's more accurate and faster...

If you put some rods or brackets or something on that goat House, sticking out over the open area, you could run canvas or something up and over to keep the rain out of the shelter, but because it’s canvas, it wouldn’t endanger the animals. Or you could just extend the roof if you have some more of your metal paneling just remember to cover up any sharp edges where the goats might be walking.

You can always build and add drop in pannels to increase your stock pen.
If you make them with drop pins you can move your fence anywhere and make it any shape that suits your needs.
You might look into premade stock pannels and attach wire mesh to confine your goats.
These pannels are good for all and any livestock including cattle, horses, goats just add wire mesh

For your top rail joints, get a few pieces of pvc pipe about 2 1/2” or so and cut one side out that will fit over the 2x4s and secure the sections. You could screw the section one for some permanence and do the door one as simply a pop on and pop off. As an alternate, if you can find some tube steel or channel iron that fits over a 2x4 that would work well and could be hinged to flip up and back for portability.

I reinforce all of my corners with triangular 9o degree angle cut ten inch by ten inch minimum (more is better) 9mm or half inch thickness exterior plywood, glued with polyurethane glue and screwed in place using galvanised timber screws which also clamp the timber until the glue is set. Make sure that these screws are not too long and do not go all through the timber. These reinforcements are useful for fitting latches as well, and it one puts them over all of the joins, it makes the structure so much stronger. This is of course only for structures with wire netting or shade cloth or some other fabric on them. I applaud what you are doing for animals, I think you are special people. The sort of neighbours lucky people get to live alongside.

Matt ! you do great work , me as a retired carpenter/ contractor can appreciate your efforts. I consider myself an expert in the construction industry and noticed something’s that would improve your skills . When cutting with a circular saw place the saw plate on the standing end ,it will be more stable and a better cut . But that’s my observation 😊

I do have a few tho left over from my timber framing business. But my right elbow is shot. I don’t want surgery tho. So I THINK I can still finish a few projects before I am dead. I live in Montana in “summer”. I am 67 now and living on my sailboat in the Florida Keys. Not dead yet.

Older kitties easily get dehydrated and backed up. Cats are opportunistic drinkers - they dont normally seek water but if they see it they will drink. Giving older cats chicken broth or tuna water from canned tuna can also encourage them to drink more.
We always mixed extra water or broth with any food we fed our senior cats. All lived from 16 - 21 years. 😊

here's a tip ahead of time,
i don't know if there are any Refrigeration specialists there,
but if you make a geo-thermal condenser, ( copper tube coil in the ground ), and figure out some flex coupling, so the compressor vibration doesn't stress the tubing, then it will use much less power....best on your deep freeze, top loader......of course i told about the composting toilet, and gaave you the rain catch math already.

Matt you need clamps and saw horses. Also, use any kind of straight edge against your angle grinder or utility knife blade. It makes is much, much easier to cut or score along a straight line of whatever kind of material you're cutting.
You can also clamp down your straight edge for use with you circular saw or sawsall.
Keep on with your Bad Self....🤘🐱🐈‍⬛🦎🐐🦂🕷️🪱🪲🗜️🐄🐓🌴🌴🍹🍹

Matt when cutting dimensional lumber with the circular saw, hold the square on the lumber and run the saws fence along the square. You ill get the proper cut the first time.

Back in the 80s, when I bought my first house, the first major tool I bought was a chop (miter) saw. The time you save making multiple cuts is well worth it. I really enjoy you video. Have a very happy New Year!

Hey guys. Great video as usual. A couple of tips from someone who has been there done that. All the rigidity in the roof comes from sheets when they are screwed down. No braces required. The other one don't cut through the tin sheets, just cut it to the length of both sides and just cut through the ribs and bend the sheet over the apex. Good luck on your next project

Mattie boy, invest in a battery impactor drill, you’ll save so much time fixing everything in, in comparison to that painful yellow drill.. 😊
