I don’t comment on many videos because I watch UA-cam on my tv and can’t comment, but I just had to pull this up on my phone so I could.
I just want to say that the world needs more people like you. The respect, love and compassion you both have, for what seems to be everything, is such a great and inspiring thing to witness. I love you both and wish nothing but happiness for you. And your work ethic is impeccable and inspiring. I want to be like the two of you when I grow up (I’m 64)! Great great job so far! I look forward to your videos every single Sunday❤️✌️

    Step 1 pour concrete
    2 screed
    3 bullfloat
    4 run your edger tool
5 allow concrete to set enough that you can press your finger with out sinking
    6 run edger tool again
7 finish with mag and steel trowl
8 finally run a broom across to give it a nonslip surface
    Thank you for you videos

You guys are doing great. Suggestions for pregnant animal mamas. When she is getting close to delivering, even a couple weeks before put down a good amount of straw or bedding especially if she is on a slick surface. Slick surfaces can cause the babies to have leg and hip issues, the mama won’t lay down to nurse her babies like a dog or cat does. They stand like a sheep, cow, horse, etc while nursing. I know putting down bedding has to be changed and cleaned out of the area but it really is safer for the babies legs. ❤❤. We enjoy GBU so much, you both are amazing and are doing such a great job on all of your do it yourselves projects!! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and celebration ❤❤❤❤❤

Maybe someone else has said this already, but when mixing batches with the mixer, figure out how much water you use in the first batch, and then in future batches, add that amount of water to the mixer before you add the cement. Then add the cement, and it will end up mixed to the right consistency every time. Enjoying the project, you are getting more skills every day. Kids are sure cute as well. Jim

Before doing anything else on the finish of the concrete, try doing an acid wash. Find a gallon of the highest concentration of muradic acid you can find locally and flood the pad with it. It will remove the top layer of creme and leave a really nice "sand finish". Scrub the surface with a broom and rinse with lots of water or neutralize with baking soda. It's one of my favorite finishes because it's easy and to do because you do it a day or two after the pour and the final look is a clean, contemporary look. Please us a respirator when using the acid because inhaling the fumes can cause serious damage to your lungs or death.

On another note, when your pouring concrete in a confined area with walls, place expansion joint material on the walls all around the pour. If not the expansion and contraction of the concrete will cause cracking if there is no room for movement.

  • @protz1671

You can put a skim coat on it. Basically sand and Portland cement. Trowel it smooth brush it out. Depending on how green the concrete is you might need to etch it with muratic acid. Then brush a concrete bonding on the surface and mix some bonding agent into the cement, sand, water mix. Another option just re pore a 1”- 2” pea gravel concrete ready mix cap on top of it I’ve done both methods when original pour got away from us and set up to quickly. Years later driving by different jobs still looked good.

Matt with that mixer overheating somewhere on that motor there's usually a little button you have to push back in to reset it. It's a thermal overload it will also trip if the motor gets jammed i. e drum gets jammed somehow. It usually on the end of the motor where the power goes in could be under a cover plate. But mad respect on taking care of the goats and everything you guys have done so far.

  • @Vault57

I have seen them mix aggregate (pea gravel) with clear epoxy and pour it as a walkway. Trowled smoothly, it let water soak through but held up to foot traffic. You could even drive small vehicles over it. You put down a layer of sand, then a base layer of gravel, and finally, a layer of the epoxy pea gravel about 2"-3" thick. Overall, it was about 6"-8" thick. They did this large scale at a major university, and it held up to some heavy foot traffic.
For your application, mix aggregate (like your crushed rock between the road and your wall) with clear epoxy and trowel it out smooth over the concrete (it provides the structural base) about half-inch thick. You would probably want to do some test patches of the coating on concrete blocks, looking for the right amount of epoxy. And to see if you like the look of it. You only need enough to coat the rock, gluing them together, not submerge it in excess resin. That's just wasting resin and money. It would give the entry the look of the crushed rock but would be more permanent. Just another option.

Tiles get VERY slippery when wet - and you guys get a LOT of rain there.
If you take a brick and "sand" the concrete before it gets really cured you can make the surface pretty smooth.
Use sand and water to lubricate the brick and to help with the abrasion.
Then get some iron filings, wet the concrete down and sprinkle the iron filings over the concrete.
That will stain the concrete and make it look more "earthy" and not just like a slab of grey concrete.
Oh yes, don't give the roosters away, EAT THEM...

(and it was 20 deg. and snowing in Pennsylvania at the time.)
Please show us more the natural treasures you get to see every day.
You've got double trouble now! Head-butting heaven.
So cute. You have a jungle zoo started, real cool.
I had a goat when I was growing up.
He would stand next to a 4x4 post, and without looking at it, jump up 3 feet, and land all 4 feet on the top.
I had a stupid thought, maybe not. Harbor freight has those driveway alert sensor/receiver things cheap,
maybe put one pointing up so it would only alert for a hawk?
Don't stress on the concrete work, in 20 years you will look back with fond memories on these projects.
Matt, you did good. Success is not always a straight line, A to B.
Kristen, you are a great partner to just "be there" for all the projects, you are a good team,
I always said just someone to hand me a wrench under the car is so valuable.

When doing a semi inclosed pour like that, I would slope it a little for water run off,,,also, an easy good look is to just sprinkle small stones on the concrete when it's wet, tamp them down with a screed,,,then before the mud is dry , spray it with a water hose to expose the stones evenly, It's a good outdoor look,

the standard for concrete ratio in the UK is 1-2-3 One part cement, 2 parts sand and 3 parts aggregate. Put these all in the mixer in shovel loads and then add the water for the right consistency. It looks like you are using way to much cement and it will cost you far more.
Some of out buildings have stood for hundreds of years.
It may look lighter but the chemical reaction is stronger.

My vote is to go with the tile for the concrete floor. It will give it a finished look and it will put your personal touch on it.

Totally jinxed it by calling it easy. Ptooe, ptooe. How about some nice terracotta tiles. Adorable baby goats, so freaking cute. Fluffy white baby goats with white cat, cuteness overload 😍!!!!! Australian Shepherd is what you need now to manage and protect your growing flock & menagerie.

That's concrete work. Worked under many makeshift tents and lean-tos. If you not going to get a truck, you can add a little calcium chloride to the concrete to help it set. A ready mix truck during the mixing and traveling with the barrel spinning starts to activate the concrete, so it sets up better. Site mix concrete always "bleeds" water for a long time. Don't forget to hang poly to protect your walls and other finishes. Good job on the goats. Good luck Uncle Matty and Kristen.

The same situation happened to me on a pour so I ended up using a hose to wash the soup off of the top to expose the aggregate giving it a rough texture…..came out alright!.. love the channel brother keep it up.

This is a first for me and that is I have never seen baby goats so young. Now you need some mini horses. A rancher down from me has a dozen or minis and they are so cute.

Always love the videos. Although I do think the tile would look epic in that entryway, I worry that the maintenance, etc would be tiresome. I'd imagine that gravel, dirt, etc would run rampant in the tight space and cause issues over a short time. I was intrigued by your suggestion on the epoxy idea. That would be easily swept, washed, cleaned. Perhaps also just a thin set layer across the top would still finish it off in concrete (although would still suggest some type of concrete sealer to again help out in maintenance over the longer run). Regardless, always looks amazing! And getting to see the baby goats was so much fun!!!

If a layer of thin set would be a thing, perhaps looking at a concrete bonding liquid (milk like substance) would be good as the liquid mixing agent rather than simply water. Sorry I don't recall the name. It helps one concrete bond better to another. When I was re-filling in concrete for plumbing reasons, I cleaned the existing surface (of dirt, dust), then wetted down), then I mixed my 3-2-1 concrete mix however used this concrete bonding milk like substance in lieu of water and it did bond well together. Again, no expert, please ask some of your more experienced friends, family, viewers. Take best of care!

Great job to both of you. Everything was as it's supposed to be. Couldn't have been for the babies.
You might want wiring for an outside light . I always put a 1.5 pice of PVC pipe under it and cover each end with tape. Then you can always feed wire through it at a later date. You did a fine job. You could also do a parkay floor or tile in front. I think of where i might want a light
pole or something and dig the hole and order just a little extra concrete and then you'll always have enough and can set a new pole easier. Just an idea. Love to you both.see you next weekend. Be safe and keep on Love'n each other!

If you guys decide to put down tile be careful when kind of tile you select. Certain smooth tile can get dangerously slippery when wet.

I'd just say, think about your boating days when finishing that floor. With all the rain you get it will be slippery as hell unless you use the right thing. I like your idea of a self levelling pour, there are products you can add to the surface to give grip, 👍

If you have never had a goat milk shake you need too! You could charge $20 dollars for a large goat milk shake. The high fat content makes it super creamy and some high quality cane sugar and vanilla bean

I had a job in an outdoor colony museum, we had goats I would peg out on chain for weed control. One day two kids popped out and were very healthy, bounding all over the place! While the boss and the girls from the restaurant down the hill were checking out the billy goat twins, one asked what their names were. Knowing how mischievious they were I just blurted out 'Heckle and Jeckle' and all agreed that suited them and it stuck!!!
