The way Dave puts the tablet down at 02:47 really makes me warm and cozy inside.
Not like other tech-tubers slamming and sliding these delicate devices around, scratching them up without even caring.

These devices definitely arent fragile
It's been a couple months now since I've bought this tablet and it is great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAxiUS5CgVC3j8FwNOHt037zhsquGQpXv The tablet is responsive and runs well. There were a few times that the tablet did an awkward thing where it would detect pen on at all times and wouldn't register finger press, but it is usually fixed by closing and opening either the screen or app. This is highly likely due to my excessive use for drawing which caused this and wasn't really very big. As I mostly enjoy using the tablet for drawing (and some light gaming), I would comment from that aspect that there is definitely more accurate pressure and drawing using a PC device and drawing tablet, however i find the moveablity of the tablet more enjoyable to draw on. Like how you can physically rotate and move a piece of paper around or even draw casually on your bed.All in all, as a tablet it is good, and as a drawing device can be good depending on what you want from a drawing device. It is definitely good enough if you just want to use it to take notes. For typing though I can't comment on the keyboard as I did not get the keyboard.
I really enjoy just the personal conversation feel of your videos, Dave, and top notch quality. I watched the review video of the S22 Ultra by the Verge and it reminded me how much better your videos are.
As an iPad Pro user I'm really happy there is a solid competitor on the market. :)
This tablet looks quite appealing
I agree but the problem is yah Samsung makes pretty devise but the software is not good I’ve dealt with Samsung tablets and a few month after buying they update it and it got so slow even scrolling through the Home Screen glitched also there screen glass is soft like it scratched so easily the same day
It looks appealing because it looks like an iPad now

One thing worth noting is that the entire Tab S8 lineup has a microSDXC slot so you don't necessarily have to shell out for extra storage.
I have waited to see this review on the Channel. Thanks Dave
With how Windows is putting more focus on ARM support, I think the tab series could make for a great dual boot tablet in the future. There's already a project to allow some older SD chips (I think 855?) to run Windows and they work really well so it's looking feasible!
A shame samsung probably just wouldn't give this even if it could the functionality. They can't even give the a-series DEX to run second screen or something.
really well is not accurate at all. and the overhead from x86 to arm is just bad.
I have a tablet but its different
Pretty sure someone is gonna port Windows to it soon

Personally not a fan off tablets

I definitely need to add this to my tech collection! Thanks for sharing your review!🙌🏽
Woof! That thing is huge. It brings up a very interesting philosophical question. If a tablet is too large to hold, is it still a tablet?
Can’t agree more
Well, Mac Address... If it's not an iPad... is it a computer? What's a computer?
"Is it still a tablet?" It depends in what you want to define as "tablet". If "tablet" is defined by flat touchscreen device with no physical keyboard, then, keep in mind that (medicinal & supplemental) tablets come in various sizes, some large, some small. Years ago, there was a touchscreen tablet much larger than this (2x bigger). Also, keep in mind, Wacom, Huion, and other pen tablets offer as much as 24" in size.

Cool review Dave as always and always covers all positive and negative aspects in detail. However, more information S-pen, features and how it compares to Apple pencil would have been great.

I think you would want a Perspective from someone who Focuses on art rather than Dave2D or more Technical Reviewers.

Also would like to see more on DEX , device compatibility, multi-tasking and Microsoft office application support, you know, the things that actually make you productive every day.
Thank you for the awesome review, Just bought the Tab S8 Ultra. Can't wait to have it!
I went to Best Buy to check out their demo models of the Tab S8 series and was pleasantly surprised that the Ultra doesn't look "too big" in person. Out of context in UA-cam videos it looks enormous, but live it just looks like a moderately bigger tablet. It's thin - really thin - which helps a lot. I'm glad I switched my pre-order from the S8+ to the Ultra, even though I have to wait longer to get it. Don't be put off by the size of the Ultra until you see it in person.
I feel like it's for people who want a greatly speced detachable chromebook with an active stylus
Gonna hold out for the 5g version when it get to the states
GOSH im so relieved!!! I'm a design student and I have the option to choose either S8+ or Ultra for free. Initially i nearly chose S8+ due to better size and portability. But i finally chose the ULTRA (to avoid any regrets) but still concered of its sheer size.
After seeing this comment, felt that I have made the right decision.
Thanks for your perfect detail review of the product. You helped me made my decision to buy a smaller version. You mentioned pros n cons in detail which other ppl didn't mentioned in their review. You got one new subscriber today. Keep up the good work. Wish you all the best.

I am sold on picking one of these up, looks awesome! I do a lot of video calling as I work remote from Mexico, and this would be good when I am away from my desk. That screen (other than the brightnss) is killer!
This was a top review!
Exactly what I'm expecting from a review - it's not very long, it's pretty detailed, it has all the necessary information without spending time on things no one cares about. Really great! Perfect, I'd say.
Love your reviews Dave you shoot your videos in such a way where people actually see what the tablet looks like in one's hands unlike a lot of reviewers who give you very close shots and you don't really get a great sense of the size of the product and how it actually looks in one's hands
6:49 The fluidity of how he said that was fantastic!

This thing was love at first sight for me, but my Tab S6 is still in perfect condition so I have no reason to upgrade. My one worry was that the Ultra would see low demand, which could lead to it being a one-time thing. I don't think I have to worry about that now. I'll upgrade once the Tab S9 Ultra comes around, or maybe even the S10 Ultra.
My S5e also is in good condition but that 200€ prime + an extra 100€ prime for returning a S5e or S6 is really tempting
I wonder if they'll do it for the future S9, I guess not
I too have a S6!! Will probably wait upto s9, as it will get its last Android update in May!! And if Samsung gives another update in form of Android 13( finger 🤞) then S10!!
I have the tab s3, I belive it's pretty good because it's not larger than a laptop and has bezels you can hold on to. The keyboard case is also pretty good.
I have the Tab S4 and I'll probably upgrade to this
0:20 Dave literally says that the Tab S8 Ultra was so popular that Samsung had to stop taking preorders for jt
Great job on the videos, appreciate the concise and unbiased reviews! Keep em coming.
Dave showed a snippet of the W13 launch event! You are my favorite tech reviewer for life now bro 🤣. Pre-ordered my Tab S8U on launch day. I knew it would be a media consumption beast. Now that they know the demand is there, I predict the S9U will go full 4K and bump up the nits. Samsung is aggressive with trade in discounts, so I will probably just upgrade next year if that happens.
That snippet of W13 sold me to watch this full review
Very helpful. Waiting for your s22 review :)
For the second screen bit. There is an app called super display that is AWESOME! It is REALLY amazing. 120hz and full pressure sensitivity and low latency.
yeah, i tried it, is unbelievable good even on wifi
5:55 If you really want a paperlike experience this might be the one to go for. Samsung offer a "new" cover case where the screen cover is slightly see through and accepts input from the s pen (I believe it's called the noteview cover). The added surface makes the feel a lot closer to pencil and paper.
@Water Jogger Uhhh. This is a new type of case for the line up soooo I'm not sure how you've "had it ". The product hasn't even been shipped to general consumers yet...

I use most of my wacom penabled drawing devices with Matte screen protectors, they protect the screen, keep it clean and they feel like paper :). I'm a professional artist and use wacom Cintiq 24 pt daily (that one with no screen protector because it has etched glass), I've also use/used, most of the Note and Tab S lineup. I've Also used the Ipad with the apple pencil, but despite it being good, It doesn't work with my ecosystem of windows/android(also charging the pen drove me crazy). Also in all s-pens and wacom pens, you can change the tip to other materials, I use felt nib pens for extra friction (because I'm very light handed when drawing, or else I experience pain at night after working)
Its so nice that you included actual sound comparison instead of just telling how it sounds for you.
It always exists me to watch your video Dave!
The great thing for me on my tab s7+ is that I can Parsec to my tower and do all actual work remotely, while maintaining the amazing battery life of an ARM OS. A shame that no one talks about this, since this isnt possible on iOS.
That's great for you, however, if you are in the range of your tower, why not just plug your tablet in. Anyway, generally speaking, IOS devices are super-efficient and don't need that exactly. Just look at the difference between the 120hz and 60hz display on the Tab S8 compared to the iPad Pro.
I never used parsec so I don't know what exactly I'm missing if anything, but I've been using the build in remote desktop for windows 10 pro on my tower to connect from my ipad and it's been working great.
I usually do this for solidworks, and even all the touch screen functions work as intended. I ditched my actual windows laptop because the speed benefit from straight up better hardware was totally worth the nearly unnoticeable lag.
@@ze_or Thats awesome! Then we basically had the same Idea! The only thing that the built-in Remote Desktop cant do but parsec can, is more grafically advanced stuff. Parsec lets the PC render the screen, while Remote Desktop lets the client render the screen. Some of the work I do sadly demands grafics, that Remote Desktop cant render. Otherwise I would have actually prefered the iPad.
@@sebastianorye2702 I can connect to my Tower over parsec from anywhere :) Its great that the iPad is so powerful and efficient, but for my work I need to use programs that arent built for iOS.
@@lukaseisele9512 Yep, and in that case an iPad isn't for you. When you say anywhere, do you mean anywhere? Also, isn't latency a problem?

Bought one over a Surface device - thanks, this review really helped me.
Sometimes I just watch your videos because they're really good, even when I am not interested on the product.
You and everyone else here. No one is actually interested in a Samsung tablet lmao :D
The only reason why I was interested in this device was to see how it handles HDR playback. HDR looks awesome on the S Ultra phones, and I wanted the same experience on a bigger screen. None of the other reviews focused on that part, which I found weird considering the aspect ratio was great for movies. Then you drop this video and I got my answer within a couple of minutes into it. Great content, and excellent insight into what might be relevant to a potential buyer (as usual).
Me too, seems that the iPad Pro is still the best option in that regard and the cheaper one. High end phones, the new MacBook pro, and of course tvs are considerably more expensive and very few get to that amazing image quality
@@josefranciscoramirez4438 I don’t like the iPad pro either. After using SAMOLED screens for so many years, I can’t stand anything other than pitch black. Even my TV and PC’s monitor isn’t good enough. The only thing that looks good other than LG’s OLED TVs, are some of Samsung’s QLED panels, and I can’t afford either of those. Still watching everything on my S21 Ultra.
@@MrSidneycarton I feel you in that regard, I also have a Samsung phone and it pains me to watch content on any other device i have, but I think you are confused in this one, the iPad gets to achieve pure black with its technology, is very similar to the qleds (I also like Samsung's qleds, I prefer real HDR before nicer blacks but overall dimmer images in TVs) but way more effective because of its higher count of minileds. I recommend you to see Max tech comparison with a tab s7 plus, or even better, to test one in an apple store, I assure you that this are some of the finest displays you can get right now, the only downside for me is maybe the aspect ratio, but I think display size compensates a bit for that

I'm upgrading from my Tab S7+ ... the only complaint I had about it was that I wanted a larger screen, and now I'll have it. I can't wait for my Ultra.
@@Valreea Well the S7+ is just right. Like a 13" MacBook.
I love the Screen Ratio for Video Consumption and Streaming Games via GeForce Now.
And when turned on the side it's awesome for reading, browsing or using for Spreadsheets in D&D and Warhammer 40K.
A bigger screen would definitely be better for the first part and also for drawing, but for the 2nd part, reading and portability or just to use as a handheld would suffer a lot imo.
I have a Samsung Galaxy View 2 tablet which has a 17.3" screen. I absolutely love it. It cracks me up to hear people trip about the 14.6" Ultra being massive. I should be receiving my Ultra on Tuesday. Can't wait to get it.

I wanted to wait for the S8 gen, but my old school pen tablet ended up dying on me around Thanksgiving and I had work to do. Ended up grabbing an S7+ with the $100 Black Friday discount and I'm glad there's not much to miss out on, especially with the price increase.
This could be second display for my work laptop, and a great media consumption device for after hours.. nice!
Great review. Could you tell me if there is an option in the display settings to hide the notch? The lack of image stabilization and brightness in outdoor settings are downsides that I am really glad you pointed out. I think I am better off holding onto the Tab S7 Plus.
You can hide the notch by making the whole top bar black and integrated into the notification bar. It will just looks like a normal sized bezel
I work an oilfield job where I'm living in different hotels most weeks of the year. Got mine S8 Ultra on pre-order. It's gunna be such an upgrade to my phone screen for watching UA-cam and Netflix in the evenings!
I watched this video on my Samsung Tab S7+. Though this new tablet intrigues me, I already feel that the S7+ is too a bit unwealdy; I don't think I could handle the extra 2" of screen. There also didn't seem to be a huge upgrade besides the chipset between the S7 and the S8 So I'll stick with my S7+ for this generation. All the Samsung tablets are absolutely excellent though. If you personally are considering buying one, you'll love it.
Edit: I realize my mistake in my choice of words regarding the extra screen size, but I'm leaving it in because I think the responses are hilarious.
I have the Samsung Tab S7 and I love it. It's the perfect size for me because I mostly chose it for reading books on but I do enjoy using Samsung Notes and that they included the S-Pen with their tablets unlike others.

Nice review thanks for sharing
*For your information: S-pens do not need charging for basic functions (hovering, drawing).* They need it only for bluetooth remote functions (ie. shutter release, flicks). Don't even dare to laugh at me again on this, dave.
As about the brightness, it can go up to 600 nits if you turn on auto- brightness (without it is indeed limited to 400 nits), however with HDR content the measured peak brightness is 800 nits (you need to activate the bright video mode in the advanced featues for this) which is insane as most of the modern OLED TV-s can't reach this level. So yeah, screen- ways it is a real monster. The rest of the review is great ;)
I will be getting one of these, as i like viewing my pictures on the go AND drawing.

All things considered, Samsung has started taking tablets very seriously. Just a few more things to iron out and these would be top tier.
Gotta say the speakers are bangin, almost didn't realize when you switched to the iPad
Thanks for this review. None other needed..
Thanks for the review. That is one massive tablet! I'm debating to trade-in my Tab S6 which is still doable. At least Samsung's notch isn't as massive as the iPhones! Keep up the great reviews.
It's great due to the screen size, but I hope for Tab Fold and the aspect ratio for Tablet is just similar as PC monitor. It would be useful when the Web Apps migrate to the WASM, so it would work efficiently for Arm proc. Curious M1 or M850 for the better and efficient processing. For Android, I hope they would adapt Ubuntu VM or Hybrid OS, then I can run Blender 3.0 on it.

I'm a HUGE fan of the poetic case on the tab s6 and s7+. It has a housing for the pen spot and a good kickstand. You'd have ZERO issues palming the screen
The brightness (or lack of) on the Samsun Tab 'S' range shocked me at how dismally dim they were when viewing them in my local store. I had to check the brightness setting for each and every one of them (S7, S8, S8+, S8 Ultra, etc) because I couldn't believe the lack of brightness.
I use the tab s7 and its absolutely fantastic. I use it everyday for hours as I follow lectures and study on it afterwards. Its fantastic for notes and for viewing all my anatomy apps. I would even say that its a bit overkill spec wise for my requirements, but i've justified it in the sense of future proofing. If the s8 is better, then it must be a really incredible tablet

The Samsung S8 models present an interesting proposition for Android phone users and PC users to maintain a continuous ecosystem between phone and tablet. As a mechanical engineer, PC enthusiast, and Apple iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch owner and user, I prefer the power and availability of professional applications on the iPad Pro. Since I also own an aerial drone photography and videography company, the ability to edit high-resolution photos and 4K video on either my desktop work stations, laptop Dell XPS 15, or my 2021 12.9" 512 GB iPad Pro is quite appealing. I do however agree that the S8 Ultra provides a better value proposition with the included keyboard and S-Pen in comparison to the iPad Pro lineup. I hope the Samsung S8 series of tablets are successful, more competition in the high-end/Professional tablet space would ultimately be beneficial to the consumer in the end. I Dave's inclusion of the launch video of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 2022 challenger.
Got pretty excited when I heard about this tablet today. Already have a 12.9 M1 iPad, but the screen size really intrigued me to use this to watch movies in bed or just play some emulators. But an Oled screen with just 400 nits absolutely kills this thing for me. I really love the iPad for the insane HDR capabilities when watching movies. Hopefully Samsung will upgrade their display for the next generation. They might win me as a customer.
AMOLED screens inherently have lower peak brightness, the brightest Oled Tvs hit 500-600 peak nits. It's really a trade off of going with Oled, I think it's worth it for the better screen. Although, I normally don't use tablets in an outdoor environment so it's not an issue for me anyway.
@@tariqtariq5429 Correct, but 400 is still pretty low for a high-end tablet. I have an LG OLED TV and that's pretty bright with HDR aswell.
samsung's tablet is Worse than the exynos scandals, Its sad that Samsung tries extremely hard only to make people choose the ipad due its long term value and performance.......and a Notch? seriously? With no camera stabilization or efficient facial tracking? The same old buggy half baked techs , Extremly unreasonable rate for an underclocked 400 nit tablet , got another reason to choose the ipads
@@tariqtariq5429 says who? Amoleds are the brightest displays out there , then how are ipads getting over a 1000 and samsung S22U getting as high as 1700? The reason why samsung implement A 400nit screen is that the screens produce a lot of heat , apple countered this with an efficient chip and an efficient thermals while samsung underclocked and used a lower grade amoled display
@@neggas- iPads are not AMOLED. Even the best one is Mini-LED.
Love the Pixel Stand
I have been waiting for a tablet to replace my Galaxy View with. All other tablets are so small.. I will definitely be checking this one out.
I think there is no reason to give tablets very narrow bezel. The way we hold Mobiles and Tablets are totally different. Tablets have way more screen real estate than mobile. With appropriate amount of bezel, It's easy to hold the Tab as well as there will be no notch.
Big bezels are ugly
@@grizzlyelchapo4219 but its not practical
Smaller bezel means larger screen while having the same form factor. All devices can benefit from that.
@@lifefullofbugandexceptions2033 you dont get it, for a tablet having smaller bezzels will result it in accidental touches if you hold your tablet, that is why they kept the thick bezzels for s8 and s8+.
@@mohamadalkhammach2472 buy a laptop that's more practical
Large thin tablet is why I like the surface book so much. This is cheaper, but less powerful, but android is a better touch experience. Great to have options on large, thin tablets!
This may be too big for most but this is really appealing for those of us who are digital artists and 3d artists. All that screen space for sketching and painting plus it can double as a second screen with my laptop when I'm on the go. I'm going to seriously consider this.
You mentioned that second screen feature and i instantly placed an order for one 🤣

It looks like a great tablet. I'm surprised they didn't use that technology where they can hide the front facing camera showing like on the fold 3. But then again that probably would've sacrifice the camera quality. Also I see you listen to Dillon Francis his new album is really good 😊👍
It’s important to note that the sensors behind the camera’s are larger than the lenses. So you can’t judge from the front if the notch is needed.
I’m just curious about what case you are using on it, it seems very cool.
If they made this thing a bit more holdable with slightly thicker bezels, there wouldn't even need to be a notch. Two birds with one stone.
I'm intrigued by the screen size, but I am more than happy with my S7+, as well. They did just about everything right, with the S7+, IMO.
Huh? How about an oled display?
Yes.

Remind me of the Samsung Galaxy View 18.4" back then.. it was intended to be used at home, maybe like in the kitchen for looking at receipes while you work or living room to show ur photos etc.. not for carrying around.. this 14" tablet is getting closer to that 18.4" screen size.
